A6000: Video Recording (FPS, Interlaced/Progressive, Bitrate, XAVC/AVCHD/MP4, NTSC/PAL)
Camera: Sony Alpha 6000
To capture videos in 60fps instead of 50fps you have to switch from PAL to NTSC mode. WARNING, this requires formatting the memory card! Backup all photos/videos before switching to NTSC!
Go to the Menu, go to the 6th icon, 2nd page, PAL/NTSC selector
Video file format (XAVC S, AVCHD, MP4) can be selected at:
Menu, 1st icon, 1st page, File Format
Framerate and bitrate can be selected at:
Menu, 1st icon, 2nd page, Record Setting
formats available in NTSC mode
XAVC S allows the following video formats:
60p 50M (M=Megabit)
30p 50M
24p 50M
AVCHD allows the following video formats:
60i 24M (FX)
60i 17M (FH)
60p 28M (PS)
24p 24M (FX)
24p 17M (FH)
MP4 allows the following video formats:
1440×1080 12M
VGA 3M
formats available in PAL mode
XAVC S allows the following video formats:
50p 50M (M=Megabit)
25p 50M
AVCHD allows the following video formats:
50i 24M (FX)
50i 17M (FH)
50p 28M (PS)
25p 24M (FX)
25p 17M (FH)
MP4 allows the following video formats:
1440×1080 12M
VGA 3M
All video resolutions are 1920 x 1080 except in MP4 format where are lower
There are two versions of this camera, 50i and 60i. Only the 50i version has the PAL/NTSC selector. The 50i or 60i is visible on the bottom of the camera above the serial number

Today I show you the differences between NTSC and PAL as quickly as possible. These two settings are where you will determine what frame rate you’ll be filming your videos at. I always shoot in 25fps but if your lighting systems in your country are at 60Hz, you might need to shoot in 24, 30 or 60fps…and there NTSC and PAL switch is where you can change this.
NTSC stands for National Television Standard Committee
PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line
