Can I use 16 ohm speakers 8 ohm amp?

Generally speaking, you can run a tube amp at 100% impedance mis-match and not cause issues. IE. Your amp is 8ohm, 4ohm and 16 ohn is 100% mismatch in either direction but dont go over that or you do risk damage.

Can you run an 8 ohm head into a 4 ohm cab?

so IS IT OK TO CONNECT A 8 OHM SOLID STATE HEAD INTO A 4 OHM CABINET? Does the head being a tube head change that? It’s fine on a solid state amp. Tube amps have to have a matching or higher impedance load (cab) than the head.

What should a 4 ohm speaker read?

AC impedance will always be greater than the DC resistance, a typical 16 ohm speaker will measure approximately 12 ohms, an 8 ohm speaker will usually measure between 5 and 7 ohms and a 4 ohm speaker will usually measure between 2.5 and 3.5 ohms.

What speakers are in Marshall 4×12?

How much does a Marshall half stack weigh?

Approximate dimensions: 26.4 x 10.7 x 9.9 inches, 33 lbs.

How tall is a Marshall stack?

A regular full stack is a bit taller than a full grown average guy, but this amp is about fifteen feet tall.

What happens if ohms don’t match?

Your speakers won’t explode as soon as you switch on the amp. However, if the amplifier isn’t designed to drive speakers with lower impedance (4-ohms, for example), then the amplifier may overheat if you turn the volume up very loud. This is because it will draw more power than the unit is designed to deliver.

Can you plug a 16 ohm head into an 8 ohm cab?

High Mismatch. If you connect a 16 ohm speaker to your 8 ohm output transformer the impedance as seen by the power tube plate increases and plate current decreases which can lengthen the lifespan of your power tubes, especially in Class A amps.

What is the difference between 8 ohms and 16?

The physical differences between an 8-ohm and a 16-ohm speaker of the same type generally come down to voice-coil wire size and the number of voice-coil wire turns in the magnetic gap. When a speaker is manufactured, different wire is used for winding the voice coil based on the desired speaker impedance.

Marshall 1960A 300-watt 4×12″ Angled Extension Cabinet

Legendary Marshall Muscle!

Nothing personifies the image of rock ‘n’ roll more completely than a wall of Marshall stacks. Though often imitated, nothing compares to the original. The 1960A is the angled version that features four G12T-75 speakers and is the perfect addition to your stage or recording rig! It’s ideal for players who appreciate clarity and quality.

The ultimate in flexibility

To ensure the ultimate in flexibility, the 1960A is switchable between mono (4 or 16 ohms) and stereo (8 ohms per side). The two mono impedance options provide extra amp matching capability while the cabinet’s stereo capability makes it ideal for rack systems which typically run in stereo.

Clear and true

The 1960A produces a loud, well-focused, and uncluttered sound with a tight, full low end and a crisp, clear top. It projects well across the guitar’s entire tonal range and its clarity makes it ideal for players who like using a fair amount of effects such as reverb, chorus, or delay as it doesn’t mask or muddy-up such FX. Its all-around versatility and relatively uncolored nature makes this one of Marshall’s best-selling cabs. It represents the sound of the guitar and head most accurately.

The Marshall 1960 cabinets are the best selling amp cabinets in the world. They are standard on stages everywhere for their sound and rugged construction. While not complicated electronically, the effects of their materials, construction, and speakers make the 1960s the choice of players everywhere and have made them the industry standard to this day.

Slightly brighter sound than a straight cab

1960A (angled) cabinets came about because Jim Marshall felt a head on a straight front cab just didn’t look designed. The sides and baffle of the cabinet feature an angled cut. This has both a cosmetic impact and a sonic one, because the top two 12″ speakers angle slightly upwards. It has more sonic or dispersion and is a little brighter-sounding than a straight cabinet.

Sonically superior

Marshall is the only choice for serious musicians. Nothing compares to Marshall cabinets in terms of awesome tone and projection. Both visually and aurally, Marshall 4 x 12″ cabs are indeed rock ‘n’ roll history in a stack!

Rugged and ready for the road

Roadworthiness is a vital prerequisite in the world of relentless touring. Luckily, as Marshall’s 40 years of cabinet building attest, Marshall cabinets are definitely built to stand the test of time! Their highly skilled craftsmen construct these 4 x 12″‘s from the finest materials available – 15mm birch plywood with precision comb joints, cotton-backed PVC covering, heavy-duty hardware, and the highest quality fittings. Weighing in at around 80 lbs., the JCM1960A is made of 15mm birch plywood (except for the back panel, which is medium density fiberboard) and built for tone, projection, and durability. The majority of cabinet construction is done by hand.

Speaker Ohms and a Marshall 4×12

Tbonerocks80s said: I diddnt think they were gonna work to make it original but I want to know if anybody is running a cab with speakers rated different. If the low impedance speakers are louder that the others and how they wired them. Click to expand…

As Mikey and Adwex stated, you cannot run two 8 ohm speakers with two 16 ohm speakers in the same cab. It has noting to so with “originality”. I believe that what you are referring to (how loud a speaker is) is in reference to a speakers “sensitivity”, not its resistance / impedance (aka AKA Ohms) rating. The impedance rating of a speaker has absolutely nothing to do with it’s volume output. Rather it is related to the load (resistance) place on the transformer in the amp you are driving the cab with. An unsafe impedance mismatch will kill your amps output transformer. Period. If you want to swap speakers in the cab, they will need to be of the same impedance (ohms) as the ones your are taking out. Or, you will need to replace the other two with speakers of the same impedance as the new speakers.

Marshall 4×12 Question

Every T75 Marshall cab I’ve had has been 16 ohms, and each speaker is 16 also. GB style speakers are great with Marshalls, but are hit/miss with a modern toned amp IMO.

If you consider a Mesa Mark to be more modern tonewise I’ve had success with G12 65s with my 2C+ and 2B coli, and they are fantastic with Marshalls. They’ve also sounded great with VHT stuff, SLOs, EVH….I’d say they work well with everything I’ve had through the years. The Heritage versions sound just like the originals from the early 80s. The Marshall labeled ones from the late 70s are much brighter though, but still great.
