parents’ (pronunciation)
Thanks everybody for your answers because they’ve been very helpful.
So, tell me please whether I’m right with these assumptions:
1- In the sentences: “My parents´ house” or “the experts´ideas”, we pronounce the -s as /s/ because they’re voiceless. I didn’t know that it was possible to pronounce the word as ‘parents-ses’ (as Rastnim88 explained)
2- In the sentence, “my brother’s house”, we prounce the -s as /z/ because the it’s voiced.
3- In the sentences “the horse’s legs” and “the horses’ legs”, the listener makes use of the context to diferenciate the meaning and so, the pronunciation is the same for both.
4- For the example “Jame’s car” we pronounce it as /z/
For the example “James’ car” we prounce it as /iz/
I assume both ways (in 4) are acceptable in English but why? if we consider the final -s as a sibilant, and we follow Agro’s [in this case it’d be “agrosiz”, that’s clear] rule, the correct pronunciation should be as /iz/.
what a mess for non-native speakers!!!!
thanks again and correct any mistakes I could have made.
