How To Make THC-Infused Drinks With THC Tincture – Blog

THC-infused drinks are a fun and flavorful way to enjoy the psychoactive effects of the cannabis plant. Beverages infused with THC have a rich history and have been around since 2000 B.C. Although cannabis beverages have been around for thousands of years, the process of making THC drinks has evolved with the times, just like our best-selling battery has evolved to incorporate tons of new features. Today, one of the easiest ways to make your own drinkables is with a THC tincture.

In honor of national lemonade day, the Ooze crew is celebrating with some killer THC-infused lemonade and mocktail recipes using THC tincture. Before we kick back with an ice-cold cannabis-infused beverage, let’s dive into what THC tincture is and how to dose your THC drinks.

What is a THC Tincture?

THC Tincture or the “Green Dragon” is a cannabis-infused alcohol-based liquid that has been used in eastern medicine for centuries. It’s one of the safest and most effective ways to consume cannabis. It’s also a great alternative for anyone who can’t smoke or would like to give their lungs a break. Plus, you can make it at home!

Learning how to make your own tincture at home is a fairly straightforward process that involves using high-proof ethyl alcohol. Basically, all you have to do is add decarboxylated bud to a jar, add the alcohol, and store it in a dark place for two to three weeks. Once it turns a vivid deep green, you can strain out all the bud and what’s left will be a potent homemade tincture!

Not into the idea of making THC tincture at home? Don’t worry, you can always buy tincture from a dispensary. When picking out a tincture at the store, you will want to look for one made from a strain you enjoy. If you prefer to smoke Indica, an Indica dominant tincture will be the best fit for you. Its always a good idea to ask questions and get suggestions from the budtender if you’re unsure.

Dosing Cannabis Drinks

When it comes to finding the right dose for cannabis drinks, every person is going to be a little different. The recommended dose for the average user is 10mg of THC. However, this can vary from person to person. The seasoned cannabis connoisseur is going to need a different dose than a first-time user.

If you’ve never consumed any cannabis products before, we recommend starting with 5mg of THC. For a seasoned veteran, we recommend trying 30mg. If you are somewhere in between, check out this detailed THC Dosage Guide to find the perfect dose for you! Just remember to have fun and keep these four tips in mind while enjoying your drinks:

Pick a safe and fun environment for the first time you make a THC-infused drink. If you get too high, good vibes will make a great companion. If you are not feeling anything, wait at least 30 minutes before drinking more. THC tincture can sneak up on you because your stomach needs enough time to absorb the cannabis compounds. Start with small doses and work your way up gradually. Remember, you can always drink more but you can never drink less. If you want to have several THC-infused drinks, make sure to divide the dosage by the number of drinks you’ll be consuming.

THC-Infused Drink Recipes

Now that we have dived into what THC tincture is and how to dose your drinks, it’s officially time to start whipping up some dank THC-infused drink recipes.

12 Best Cannabis-Infused Drinks And How To Make Them

We’ve come a long way from clumsily rolled joints. The legal medical and recreational markets exploded, launching an impressive span of cannabis-infused edibles. And these dank delectables offer healthier alternatives to smoking. What’s more, they aren’t just your average fudgy brownies. Companies dabbling in marijuana consumables have innovated the cannabis plant, taking it further than ever before. You can conveniently chug a canna-coffee made from eco-friendly cannabis-infused coffee pods. With more states approaching the possibility of legalizing the plant, you could be able to enjoy your bud and your suds all in one big gulp thanks to some clever cannabis-focused brewmasters. But who needs the companies when a cannabis-infused beverage is so simple to make at home? We’ll show you the 12 best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them.

Look no further for your guide to making reefer refreshments. After calculating the dosage, all you need to remember are these four basic recipes to build from.

Making the Base: Cannabis-Infused Milk

Not all of us live near a coffee shop with Venti-sized CBD-oil cappuccinos or “wellness lattes”. Some of us aren’t even lucky enough to be able to pick up a bottled bud-infused beverage to fuel our day. But having cannabis-infused milk handy to face the mornings can make your ritual coffee or tea an even more enjoyable experience. Keep in mind, weed is fat-soluble. So using something with a fattier content like whole milk will ensure the THC is in full effect.

You will need:

0.5 – 1.0 gram of weed per quart of milk

Choose between two methods: one which is more labor intensive (stirring) and one which almost cooks itself. If you want to work your forearms with this recipe and following the first method, start with putting the broken down weed and milk into a pot. After this mixture reaches boiling, reduce to a simmer, and then begin periodically stirring for the next two to three hours.

Alternatively, bring water to a boil in a pot. Then, take a steel bowl and pour together the milk and finely ground marijuana. Let it simmer for a few hours. While this second method still needs an occasional stir, the lack of direct heat on the milk prevents the mixture from burning or curdling.

In both approaches, finish off the recipe by straining the liquid through a cheesecloth.

Get Crazy with Cannabis-Infused Milk

Now, you are the proud creator of thick and potent cannabis-infused milk. This dairy concoction can provide a base for a limitless list of beverages. Anything that could use some canna-creamy goodness could stand a dollop (or two, or five). Try these creative recipes:

Making the Base: Cannabis-Infused Coconut Oil

Of course, maybe you tend to prefer a drink that lacks lactose altogether. Easily accommodated. The best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them doesn’t require dairy at all.

Try a cannabis concoction that skips the milk and opts for oil. A cannabis-infused coconut oil can add some nutty flavor, not to mention offers all the healthy benefits of coconut alongside the high of marijuana. Follow this simple recipe to start, then get creative!

This oil can be added to a number of different drinks to make them a little (or a lot) dank. Additionally, because coconut oil becomes solid at room temperature, this handy additive can be thrown into other edible recipes that aren’t liquids.

You will need:

1 cup coconut oil

1 cup ground weed

After grinding the cannabis loosely (not into a powder!), use a double-boiling method. Put the oil and cannabis into a steel bowl over a pot of low-simmering water. Stick around the stove, you’ll be sporadically stirring the mixture for around at least 6 hours (8 hours, if you’re die-hard).

If pressed for time or the idea of standing stove-side all day doesn’t sound appealing, consider the slow-cooker method. To try, simply add the oil and ground herb to a slow cooker. Set the temperature to low, and stir only very occasionally.

As with the cannabis-infused milk, it is important that the mixture not overheat or it will scorch and potentially ruin your oil. Keep in mind for all the best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them demands the cook always watch their infusions carefully so they do not burn.

In your slow cooker or pot should be a powerful potion ready to deliver the high of smoking pot. Strain through a cheesecloth and add it to any liquid you prefer.

Get Creative with Cannabis-Infused Coconut Oil

Consider adding the cannabis-infused coconut oil to these recipes, but feel free to experiment and create your own.

Try a healthy hemp shake or a Pina Canna-lada:

You will need (for a 16 oz. drink):

1 oz. dark run

2 oz. white rum

1/4 cup diced pineapple.

4 oz. coconut canna-oil

2 oz. pineapple juice

4 oz. coconut cream

1 1/2 cup ice

Combine all ingredients in the blender. The drink should be pourable and perfect to enjoy on a sunny day. Add a straw and mini umbrella, according to preference.

Making the Base: Cannabis Simple Syrup

Sometimes all a drink needs is the addition of a little something sweet to really tickle the taste buds. Imagine that the sugary sweetener added to your favorite drink contained the medicating and calming power of cannabis.

The best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them could be a major success with the introduction of this sweetness. Make your own and bottle it, and this spoonful of sugar will also be medicine going down.

You will need:

3 cups of filtered water

3 cups of fine granulated sugar

2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin (locate this at a health food store)

2 grams of finely chopped or ground cannabis

Start with combining water and sugar into a medium-sized pot. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar fully dissolves into the water. Add the weed to the boiling mixture and cover the metal pot for 20 minutes.

Ensure the boil remains gentle so that the cannabis does not scorch and the mixture reaches decarboxylation. Then, add the vegetable glycerin.

Watch as it simmers for 5 to 6 minutes, removing the lid to ooh, ahh, and stir occasionally.

Pour the hot liquid through the cheesecloth and into a jar or bottle for safekeeping and future use.

Sweeten Anything with Cannabis Simple Syrup

This sweetener will be a necessary addition to anyone’s at-home bar. It jazzes up a gin and T with THC, enhances a Manhattan with the high of marijuana, and makes for a simple but delectable Sweet Iced Tea. The below recipes take this sweetener up a notch.

Super Duper Green Smoothie

You will need:

2 cups spinach

1 tablespoon almond butter

a banana

1 tablespoon protein powder

1 cup water or almond milk (or for a really strong beverage– use the above recipe for canna-milk)

cannabis-infused simple syrup

1 teaspoon canna-coconut oil (see our handy above recipe)

Blend all ingredients in a blender. The results should be thick and delicious when guzzled through a straw.

Other recipes you can make are a Marijuana Malibu Mule or a Bloody Good Remedy (try replacing the cannabis tincture with the cannabis-infused simple syrup!)

Prefer a heartier, healthier sweetener? Try this recipe for a Cannabis-Infused Maple Syrup to add a tangy kick.

Making the Base: Cannabis-Infused Alcohol

Combining two vices seems like it warrants confession or at the very least guilt at gluttony. But there’s no need to feel bad about drinking cannabis-infused alcohol. The duo together may be just the ticket for letting loose and keeping it classy.

Then, once you have cannabis-infused alcohol amongst your impressive (or not) collection of cheap whiskey, you can impress your guests with ganja drinks.

But before we send you off to play with fire, a few words to the wise. Alcohol is seriously flammable.

Because of this, avoid using a gas burner to do this infusion.

In fact, keep the project away from any open flame (including the J you rolled for this cooking process). Keep calm, safe and work in a well-ventilated area.

You will need:

one 1/8-ounce bag of high-grade weed for one 750-milliliter bottle of booze (choose whatever is your favorite liquor)

Begin by decarbing the weed. This process helps to bind the THC molecules to the alcohol. You can use the microwave or the oven (at a low 240 degrees for about an hour), but the microwave is just as efficient and in less time.

Put full buds into a microwave-safe bowl or container. Cover with a microwave-safe plate and cook on high for a minute and a half.

Flip the buds to the other side, then repeat the cooking process two more times, flipping each time and entering the time of a minute and a half.

Finally grind down the weed loosely, but not into a powder.

Now, it’s really cooking time. Fill the bottom half of a large pot halfway with water. Using an electric stove or hot plate bring it to boil, at 212ºF. Then, turn the heat to low.

Dump the booze and the ganja into another smaller pot or the top of the double-boiler with the water in it. Stir and then cover the mixture.

Be careful to watch the stove and ensure that the weed and alcohol alchemy you’re working on doesn’t exceed 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

Stick around and occasionally stir for up to three hours.

Collect a Bar of Your Own Cannabis-Infused Alcohol

Repeat this process for any booze of your choice, But beware: this jazzed up juice will have you hosting guests more than ever before. Try these recipes to get started:

11. Mai High

12. Pot Toddy

No matter your poison, you can take it up a notch by infusing it with cannabis for the perfect libation.

The Cheat: Just Add Cannabis-Infused Honey, Oils, or Tinctures

Too much work to make your own infused milk, oil, sweetener, or alcohol? The best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them doesn’t have to be overly complicated.

Try using tinctures and cannabis-infused honey. CBD oil provides an excellent additive as well, and it can often be purchased and delivered right to your doorstep or from a local head shop.

As with any edibles, know your body and be patient. Don’t guzzle too much right away, but progress into your dank drinkable high.

Final Hit: Best Cannabis-Infused Drinks And How To Make Them

Pulling together a bud-infused bevvy isn’t difficult. In fact, with a little preparation, you can stock your kitchen with the building blocks to many different types of cannabis-infused drinks.

Knowing these simple basic cannabis-drink starters will be your easiest path to the best cannabis-infused drinks and how to make them.

DIY Canna-Infused Drink Recipes

Featured Post

There is something truly relaxing about enjoying a good drink after a long day, whether it is a cocktail, mocktail, or even a simple beverage straight out of the fridge. Cannabis-infused beverages for canna lovers take the prospect of fun and relaxation to the next level, with no hangover. The best part? You can create your own canna cocktail in the comfort of your own home.

Although there are readymade cannabis drinks on the market, these ready-to-drink options are not available in Florida. Thankfully, there’s a cannabis-infused drink recipe to suit any taste, and infusion options for all comfort levels. These drinks are a perfect way to treat yourself and get into the holiday spirit.

Our favorite cannabis drink recipes range from hot to cold, sweet to comforting. Regardless of how you like to enjoy your beverage, we’ve tried to highlight a little something for everyone. Before we get to the recipes, let’s look at the common ways to infuse beverages with marijuana.

Infusing with Tinctures

Tinctures are a straightforward way to infuse your favorite beverages with cannabis, especially when using MÜV Encapsulated Cannabis Tinctures.

Traditional tinctures are defined as a medicine incorporated into a grain-alcohol base. In the cannabis space, it’s more common to see tinctures created using oils, such as coconut or olive – not something you would want to place directly into your drink. Oil-based tinctures will sit on the top of the beverage, never fully mixing into water-based beverages. Oil-based tinctures are a great option for mixing into butter or honey.

Encapsulated tinctures, on the other hand, can be added directly to beverages. Using patented EnCaps™ technology, cannabinoids THC and CBD are encapsulated into a water soluble micelle shell, allowing for thorough incorporation into any liquid.

How to Infuse Drinks with Distillate

Cannabis distillate, too, is a way to create a cannabis-infused beverage. Distillate is a concentrated form of cannabis, often testing at 80% THC and above, most often found in a syringe. This form of cannabis is the base of most store-bought edibles simply because it makes infusing food or drinks easier, and more precise.

Distillate, when compared to flower, is easier to infuse foods and beverages with. Not only is the concentrate refined and pure, with no filtering of plant matter needed, it’s easier to calculate the dose to add to your beverage. With flower, a scale is necessary, but distillate? Simply determine your desired dose, use the measured lines on the syringe to calculate, and measure it out. Distillate is often used to infuse milk, butter to make cannabutter, simple syrup, or oils to create a range of infused drinks or treats like marijuana brownies.

When experimenting with drink infusions, it is best to start low and slow—build your dosage slowly and safely with the help of a dropper. Beverages will be digested in the same manner as edibles, so the first-pass effect will take place (more on that here). In addition, keep in mind that the right dose for you will also depend on your tolerance levels—develop a feel for what you can handle and sip slowly to ensure a great experience.

Cannabis Drinks for Every Season and Holiday

Cannabis drinks are perfect for special occasions as they are a nondescript way to achieve your dose. They also make for the perfect hot drink after a long day in the cold or a refreshing beverage on a warm summer day. We’ve rounded up our favorite recipes for these occasions and more.

Year-Round Favorites

While some drinks are ideal for the warm or cool seasons, these cannabis drinks can be enjoyed all year round.

Cannabis Milk

Also known as Mother’s Milk, this beverage is perfect alone or when you need that creamy note in your morning cup of coffee or tea. This is also a terrific addition to lattes, milkshakes, and any other beverage that would normally contain milk. While there are many techniques for creating cannabis milk, we’re highlighting one of the simplest.

For those worried about using flower, don’t worry! This is our only recipe that calls for loose flower.

Makes: varies depending on need

Prep Time: minimal, though cook time will take hours

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Milk

0.5-1.0 grams (or preferred dose) of finely ground cannabis flower per quart of milk

Directions:

Before you begin, you’ll want to make sure you have the correct flower to milk ratio. If your flower is still in bud form, take the time to grind it finely.

Boil a pot of water (double boiler is preferred). In a steel bowl, combine the milk and finely ground marijuana. Once the water is boiling, place the bowl of milk and cannabis on top of the boiling pot. This indirect contact will prevent your mixture from burning or curdling, or THC from being activated. Bring this mixture to a soft boil. Reduce to a gentle simmer and stir occasionally over the next 2-3 hours. Strain your newly infused milk through a cheesecloth and store it accordingly.

Red “Strain”gria

Sangria is a great drink for any season or holiday and can be enjoyed warm or iced depending on your preference, but “strain”gria? Our take on cannabis-infused juice in lieu of headache-inducing wine? A year-round win in our books.

Makes: 32 ounces

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Fresh lemon slices (with rind)

Fresh lime slices (with rind)

Fresh orange slices (with rind)

Cranberries

2 cups cranberry juice

2 cups grape juice

1 cup orange juice

1/2 cup lemon juice

4 cups San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water OR lemon-lime soda

Preferred dose of cannabis tincture OR cannabis simple syrup (3/4 cup water, 1 cup sugar, desired distillate dose, bring to a gentle boil together)

Directions:

Before starting, round up a half-gallon pitcher with a lid to store your staingria.

Add the orange, lemon, and lime slices to the pitcher, muddle lightly. Pour juices overtop the fresh fruit. Add your desired dose of tincture to the beverage and stir thoroughly (or, add desired dose just before serving). Seal the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 12 hours Enjoy over a glass of ice, adding a splash of lemon-lime soda or sparkling water before serving. Add more fruit to your taste.

Fall and Winter Favorites

When it comes to cannabis-infused drinks, fall and winter are the perfect time to experiment with both hot and cold beverages. Whether you are curling up on the couch or entertaining for the holidays, these favorite cannabis drink recipes will be a huge hit.

Hot Buttered Rum Cider

Nothing screams fall and winter like a great cider served warm. While this recipe includes rum (which is diluted when heated), you can simply eliminate it if you prefer a non-alcoholic favorite. The best part about DIY cannabis-infused drinks is the range of creativity and experimentation possible.

Makes: 24 oz.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients You’ll Need:

24 oz. apple or pear cider

4 tsp. softened cannabutter

¼ cup heavy whipping cream

½ tsp. powdered sugar

8 oz. dark rum

¼ tsp. cloves

4 cinnamon sticks

Directions:

Bring the rum and cloves to a slow boil and boil for about 10 minutes. Keep in mind that some of the alcohol will cook out, especially if allowed to boil rapidly. Whisk together cannabutter, heavy cream, and powdered sugar in a separate bowl. Set aside. Strain the rum/clove mixture into a clean pot. Add cider and heat on high for a few minutes. Once heated to your liking, pour the rum, clove, and cider mix into your favorite mug. Top with cannabutter-infused cream, and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

Hot Toddy, AKA “Pot Toddy”

Ingredients You’ll Need:

4 bags of tea (choose your favorite flavor—common options include orange, berry, or hibiscus tea)

Summertime Favorites

The summertime is a perfect opportunity to experiment with refreshing drinks and, because we’re lucky enough to live in Florida, can be made year-round. Whether you are looking for a cocktail to unwind or a mocktail to sip on throughout the day, these are some of our favorite cannabis drink recipes for summer.

Berry Lemonade

Lemonade is one of the most refreshing drinks you can sip on a muggy day. This recipe can be made with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or any other seasonal berries you’d like to highlight.

Makes: 32 oz.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients You’ll Need:

¾ cup sugar

5 cups water (divided)

Desired distillate dose

2 lemons (zested)

Pint of fresh berries

1 cup lemon juice

Directions:

Combine sugar, 1 cup of water, distillate, and lemon zest in a medium pot. Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring to thoroughly incorporate the distillate. Set aside and let cool. You’ve essentially created an infused simple syrup for your lemonade! Puree your choice of berry (keeping a few aside for garnish), using a metal strainer to remove large chunks of fruit (unless you want to keep them). Once simple syrup is cooled, strain it into a pitcher or jug. Add berry puree, lemon juice, remaining water, and your preferred amount of cannabis tincture. Stir well, add ice, and serve!

This is a great non-alcoholic recipe for a refreshing summer sipper.

Cherry Limeade

This is another crisp, flavorful drink perfect for those sizzling summer months. Tart cherry complements the tangy lime, providing a refreshing way to dose with cannabis.

Makes: Varies, depending on your needs

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients You’ll Need:

2-liter of your favorite lemon-lime soda

1 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed

1 cup sugar

Cannabis tincture

Maraschino cherries, for garnish (for a fancier look, use stemmed cherries, pictured above)

Thinly sliced limes, for garnish

Directions:

Whether you’re making a large batch or a single glass, this crisp summer beverage is quick and easy.

Make sure all of your ingredients (except tincture) are cold. Add your desired tincture dose, stir, and top off with ice. Garnish with cherries and lime slices.
