Can You Get Prescription Glasses with Blue Light Filter?

Not many people may know what blue light is, and the many ways it can harm your eyes. It is important to know that there are ways to protect your eyes from blue light. People who wear prescription glasses can get glasses with a blue light filter, but people who don’t can still get glasses with blue light protection. Before looking for a pair of prescription glasses with blue light filter capabilities, it is important to know what blue light is and what produces it the most.

What is Blue Light?

Blue light is in the middle of the light spectrum ranging from 380-500nm (nanometers). It is a visible light with the shortest wavelength and highest energy. What is different from blue light, compared to other visible light colors, is that blue light can reach all the way to the retina (the inner lining of the back of the eye). It is similar to Ultraviolet rays, but not as dangerous, as UV rays can physically damage skin and other living tissue. The human eye is more effective at blocking UV rays from reaching the retina than it is from blocking blue light.

Blue light can be harmful to your eyes, but this doesn’t mean all blue light is entirely bad for you. Having the proper exposure of blue light at the right time can lead to good health by boosting alertness, helping memory, and elevating mood. Exposing yourself to blue light during daytime hours can also help maintain a healthy sleep cycle.

What Projects Blue Light?

Sunlight is the main source, but there are also many man-made, indoor sources of blue light; devices like computer screens, flat screen televisions, iPads, tablets, eBooks, smartphones, etc. The amount of light that is emitted from electronic devices is a fraction of what is projected by the sun, but can still be harmful. opthamologists and other healthcare professionals are concerned about the possible long-term effects of blue light.

Because people spend around six hours a day in front of a computer screen, ophthalmologists are concerned about the possible long term effects that blue light can have. Doctors know having too much exposure to blue light at night can disrupt sleep cycles, potentially causing daytime fatigue. In regards to potential eye damage, there isn’t much evidence that proves or disproves, that blue light from computer screens causes long-lasting damage to your eye.

Unfortunately, scientists need more time to see if there are long term effects of blue light from computer screens and other digital devices. We can’t avoid blue light as we are dependent on these devices for everyday tasks, but this doesn’t mean you can’t take precautions in protecting your eyes from the harm blue light can potentially have on your eyes.

Prescription Glasses with Blue Light Filter

To determine if blue light filters are right for your prescription glasses, you should consult with your optician or ophthalmologist. You can either be prescribed an anti-reflective coating with blue blocker, or order a pair of clear polycarbonate lenses with pigment inside that filters out the blue. Both options are good for reducing the levels of blue light, but both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Anti-reflective (AR) coating with blue blocker is an add-on feature for all types of eyeglasses that we offer. What’s great about AR coating is that as well as reducing blue light, it also reduces eye strain and makes your eyeglasses look more attractive. By eliminating reflections, an AR coating can make your eyeglasses nearly invisible allowing people to see your eyes and facial expressions more clearly.

There are some disadvantages an AR coating with blue blocker can have. For instance, it only blocks 85% of blue light. Some may prefer this, but others may want better results. Another drawback of having an AR coating is the constant cleaning. If not cleaned properly, the lenses can be exposed to possible scratching. Using a dry cloth on a dry lens can easily cause the lens to scratch, so remember to use a wet cloth to clean the lens at all times.

If an AR coating with blue blocker isn’t the right choice, a specialty made clear polycarbonate lenses might be the right choice for you. You can order prescription lenses with a special pigment inside that filters out blue light. What is great about blue light resistant polycarbonate lenses is that they are cost-friendly and available in single vision and progressive bifocal through our website. Not only will polycarbonate lenses naturally block UV light, they also block the same amount, or more, blue light as an AR coating would. As an added bonus, your vision is as clear as regularly made lenses that are without the inserted pigment.

If you use specialty made clear polycarbonate lenses to block out blue light, make sure to not mix them up with other glasses you may have. It might be hard to tell which glasses are blue light-resistant, but there is a cool trick to figure out this problem. In order to figure out which pair of glasses are blue light-resistant, aim a blue-colored laser through the lenses of each pair and the one that blocks it is the pair that is blue light-resistant.

The Choice is Yours

Regardless of what your choice may be, we hope to have helped you decide whether or not you need blue light filters in your prescription glasses. If you are looking to upgrade or in need of a new pair, it doesn’t hurt to include blue light filters. By taking the extra precaution, you can protect your eyes from potentially harmful blue light from computer screens and other digital devices. At Rx-Safety, we are proud to offer a variety of options regarding eye safety and clarity, carry a wide range of brands with blue light filters in their lenses.

UV & Solar Blue Light Protection

The sun and indoor lighting are both helpful in keeping the world functioning. Even so, they have HEV or high-energy visible blue light and UV or ultraviolet light that are harmful to your eyes. The American Academy of Ophthalmology acknowledges the importance of eye protection from these harmful types of light. The earlier you start protecting your eyes, the lower your risk becomes in developing serious eye conditions. You should talk about UV and HEV light protection with your eye care provider. Once you do this, you can work with your eye specialist in determining the correct coatings, materials, and lenses for the glasses that you need. If you want to find out the facts, here’s what you should know.

The Truth About Blue and UV Lights

Blue and UV lights are found everywhere. Every day, you are surrounded by these harmful rays, whether you are indoors or outdoors. Here are some important details about these types of light:

UV light. Short, intense exposure to UV light can cause eye conditions such as photokeratitis. Nonetheless, prolonged exposure can result in more serious eye issues like cataracts. Studies show that UV-B and UV-C rays are mostly blocked by the atmosphere. The UV-A rays are the ones that reach the Earth’s surface. Because your cornea blocks UV-A, the harmful rays cannot reach your retina.

Blue light. Also known as HEV (high-energy visible) light, blue light can penetrate your eyes. It can reach your retina and damage it. Long-term exposure to this light can result in the photo-oxidation of your retinal cells. This process leads to age-related macular degeneration.

The Right Coatings and Materials

Experts say that you cannot depend on your sunglasses to give you protection from blue and UV lights. You should still have the right eye care measures to help your protective eyewear. Polycarbonate and Trivex® are common materials that can provide protection from harmful UV light. With them, your sunglasses can block 100 percent UV light. It can also shield you from a good percentage of HEV light.

Eye Protection as a Habit

Although it’s hard to maintain, you should do your best to ward off blue and UV lights outside all the time. Form a routine out of it by wearing protective sunglasses at the right time whenever you go out. To prepare yourself when the sun’s rays suddenly become strong, pack a pair of protective sunglasses and a hat in your bag. You can do this for your child as well because their eyes tend to absorb more HEV and UV lights. Also, talk to your eye care provider about the blue-light-blocking glasses or lenses that you and your family members can wear. They can be useful when you use your electronic gadgets indoors.

Shielding against blue and UV lights is important for your eye and vision health. At Optical Masters, we only want you to have the right level of eye protection outdoors and indoors. Please visit our clinics in Denver, Colorado, for an in-person consultation. You can also call us at 720-780-8881 (Monaco), 720-780-9970 (Federal), or 720-782-2190 (University). KR101540114B1 – Blue-light blocking lens and its manufacturing method – Google Patents

More particularly, the present invention relates to a blue light blocking lens and a method for manufacturing the blue light blocking lens, and more particularly, to a blue light blocking lens and a blue light blocking lens for reducing the blue light transmittance of a lens by injecting an additive for diverging and diffusing blue light, And a manufacturing method thereof.

In order to solve the problems of conventional lenses blocking ultraviolet light or blue light as disclosed in Korean Patent Publication No. 85415 (published on Jul. 29, 2013), a high refractive index material and a low refractive index material There has been known a technique in which a plurality of multilayered films are laminated and a functional thin film or the like is laminated between a plastic substrate and a multilayer film. However, a lens having such a structure has problems such as difficulty in manufacturing, I had it.

Techniques for protecting and protecting the eyes by reflecting and absorbing the blue light in the ultraviolet rays or visible rays harmful to the human body and the eyes have been developed. Conventionally, as a technique relating to a lens or glasses for blocking and absorbing ultraviolet rays or blue rays, When manufacturing a lens as in Korean Patent Publication No. 1224 (published on Feb. 17, 1994) of the prior art document, a polarizing film integrated with a cut-on filter is attached or immersed in a colored dye at a high temperature, And a plastic resin film containing silver and halogen elements whose color and color density are changed according to the amount of ultraviolet rays on the lens surface of the glasses as in Korean Utility Model No. 230630 (published on Jul. 19, 2001) Or a polarizing film alone or in combination to absorb and block ultraviolet rays and short-wavelength visible rays. However, Because the color of the lens itself is given to the lens to absorb the blue light which is a short wavelength in the ultraviolet ray and the visible light, it absorbs visible rays not harmful to the human body other than the ultraviolet ray and the blue light by the attachment of the polarizing film of the lens and the coloring by the dye, And the transmittance of a long wavelength having a wavelength of 500 to 780 nm which is a green to red part which is not harmful to the human body except blue light in a visible light is also lowered in the visible light as well. The polarizing film attached to the lens has frequent peeling and scratches. When the polarizing film attached to the lens is frequently used, For the dyes used, And it is very difficult to produce a lens having a standardized color density when dyes are colored on a lens.

Generally, green and red portions of visible light and electromagnetic waves of long wavelengths such as infrared, microwave, and radio wave are not harmful to human body, especially eye, but blue light of purple or blue portion of visible light In the case of electromagnetic waves having a short wavelength such as ultraviolet rays, X-rays and gamma rays, they have an extremely harmful effect on the human body. In the case of X-rays and gamma rays, they are not included in general natural light such as sunlight. In case of the blue light in the ultraviolet ray and visible light, it is included in the sunlight. Therefore, in order to protect the eyes of the human body, it is necessary to wear a special blocking lens which blocks ultraviolet rays and blue light. In particular, blue light having a wavelength of 380 to 500 nm, which emits blue light in the visible light, ht) is also called a short wavelength (short wavelength). This blue light has a short wavelength and is not recognized as an accurate image because it is formed on the front side of the retina. Therefore, it causes fatigue of the eye because the color is dispersed. And the eye cell is visibly stimulated by the stimulation of the eye, resulting in a further increase in eye fatigue as well as glare. It has been widely used in recent years and is widely used in TVs, computer monitors, smart phones, tablet PCs, A cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) or a light emitting diode (CCFL) is used as a light source in order to increase the resolution. Because it contains a lot of blue light, the vision of the modern people will be drastically lowered than before. It was.

Also, before the monomer of the plastic lens is reacted with the polymer by the polymerization initiator, the above-mentioned blue-light-emitting agent, the ultraviolet screening agent and the pigment are sufficiently stirred at a high speed, and then the polymerization initiator is agitated under vacuum to form a lens. The blocking agent and the pigment are uniformly mixed to maximize the blocking ratio of blue light and ultraviolet light while minimizing the reflectance, the color change and the blocking rate of the green light or the red light having a relatively long wavelength in the visible light, thereby ensuring a clearer visual field. The anticipated effect is that the invention is the inventor of the invention, such as being able to significantly reduce glare and eye fatigue and to prevent eye diseases.

In addition, the UV blocking agent and pigments mixed in the monomer with the blue light-emitting agent block the blue light and the near ultraviolet light by the blue light-emitting agent, thereby blocking the ultraviolet light to a greater extent, thereby simultaneously providing the ultraviolet light blocking function to the blue light.

According to a specific means for solving the above-mentioned problems, the blue light blocking lens of the present invention and the method of manufacturing the same are manufactured by mixing a monomer used in producing a plastic lens with a blue light- The blue light having a wavelength of 500 nm is partially reflected and then absorbed and dispersed in the lens so as to diffuse to the edge of the lens so that the transmittance of the blue light transmitted through the lens can be remarkably reduced.

The method of manufacturing a blue light blocking lens using the composition of the blue light blocking lens is characterized in that a blue light blocking lens made of a compound of thiophene and benzene is added to a monomer in which a first raw material of KOC-55 and a second raw material of CR- A functional material having ultraviolet light blocking function and blue light blocking function which is stirred for 2 hours at a temperature of 2000 rpm for 2 hours after the addition of the ultraviolet screening agent of UV-5411 together with the dispersing agent, And then stirring the mixture at room temperature for 1 hour. Subsequently, the polymerization initiator of IPP was added and the mixture was stirred under vacuum at a temperature of 24 to 26 degrees under a pressure of 3 torr for 1 hour. The composition of the lens is allowed to mix and then the vacuum is stopped and nitrogen is injected to inject the composition through a paper filter of 1 mu m + 3 mu m into the mold of the lens at a pressure of 0.08 MPa It characterized in that that through the injection step blue blocking lens is manufactured.

The monomer is composed of 74.25% by weight of a diallyl isophthalate monomer, 24.75% by weight of diethylene glycol bis (allyl carbonate) and 1% by weight of an additive. The monomer has a refractive index A raw material 9 of CR-39, which is composed of 91 weight% of a first raw material of KOC-55, which is increased or decreased, and allyl diglycol carbonate, and whose Abbe’s number is increased or decreased according to the content 0.01 to 0.05 part by weight of a blue-violet light-emitting diophoric compound composed of a compound of thiophene and benzene to disperse and diffuse blue light in 100 parts by weight of the monomer to block transmission of the lens, UV-5411 of 2- (2-hydroxy-5-t-octylphenyl) benzotriazole which has a function to block ultraviolet absorption and prevent lens deformation by ultraviolet rays. 0.14 part by weight of a first pigment (BL-1) having a lens bluish when a charged amount was increased, 0.16 part by weight of a second pigment (BL-2) A monomer mixture was prepared by mixing 73% by weight of diethylene glycol bis (allyl carbonate) and 27% by weight of diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate to make 100% by weight of the monomer, 3 parts by weight of a polymerization initiator (hereinafter referred to as ” IPP ”

In the blue light blocking lens and the method of manufacturing the same according to the present invention, the blue light blocking lens of the present invention is applied to a monomer, which is a raw material used in manufacturing a plastic lens, And a blue light-diffusing agent composed of a compound of thiophene and benzene is mixed so as to disperse and diffuse blue light in the range of ~ 500 nm to block the transmission of the lens .

Accordingly, the present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems of the prior art, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a method of dispersing (dispersing) a spectrum of a short wavelength in a monomer (monomer) By mixing a blue light-emitting agent having a function of diffusing a blue light and an additive to form a lens, the blue light in the region of 380 nm to 500 nm is not simply reflected and blocked when the physical light is transmitted through the lens, And diffuse to the edge of the lens so that the transmittance of the blue light transmitted through the lens is extremely low and the transmittance of the ultraviolet ray is also lowered. The near ultraviolet ray or blue ray having a short wavelength is blocked, The reflectance, color change, and cut-off rate of the long-wavelength green light or red light are minimized, As one wishes to provide a blue light blocking lenses and a manufacturing method allows significantly reduce the fatigue of the eyes by seeking to have the visibility is finished with a problem to be solved by the invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing a method of manufacturing a blue light blocking lens according to the present invention, FIG. 2 is a photograph showing a state of a lens when a beam that emits blue light is irradiated to the blue light blocking lens of the present invention and a test image showing blue light transmitted through the lens FIG. 3 is a graph showing the state of a lens when a beam that emits the same blue light as that of FIG. 2 is irradiated to a conventional blue light intercepting lens which is sold on the market, FIG. 4 is a comparative photograph showing dispersion and diffusion of blue light in each lens when the blue light blocking lens of the present invention and the conventional blue light blocking lens are placed on the floor and a beam to which blue light is emitted is irradiated.

The present invention relates to a composition of a blue light blocking lens capable of blocking ultraviolet light including a blue light and a near-ultraviolet light in a short wavelength region which increases the glare and fatigue of eyes during the production of a plastic lens used for the vision correction glasses, and a plastic lens And a method for producing the same.

The blue light shielding lens of the present invention is formed by mixing an additive that blocks blue light in a range of 380 to 500 nm to a monomer which is a raw material material used in the production of a plastic lens. The additive has a short wavelength of 380 to 500 nm A blue light-emitting agent composed of a compound of thiophene and benzene so as to have a function of absorbing blue light and some near-ultraviolet rays and diffusing blue light to the edge of the lens while dispersing it in the lens, Is mixed with a monomer in the production of a lens to provide a composition of a blue light blocking lens.

The first raw material KOC-55 is a mixture of 91% by weight of a first raw material of KOC-55 and 9% by weight of a second raw material of CR-39 in the case of the monomer in which the blue light- 74.25% by weight of a diallyl isophthalate monomer, 24.75% by weight of diethylene glycol bis (allyl carbonate) and 1% by weight of additives, so that the refractive index of the lens And the second raw material CR-39 is made of allyl diglycol carbonate. When the content of the second raw material CR-39 is increased, the Abbe’s number is increased and the refractive index of the lens is decreased. Abbe’s number is lowered when the input amount is lowered.

In the present invention, 0.01 parts by weight of the ultraviolet light blocking agent UV-5411 is added to 100 parts by weight of the monomer mixture of the first raw material KOC-55 and the second raw material CR-39, , 0.44 part by weight of a first pigment (BL-1) and 0.16 part by weight of a second pigment (BL-2) were mixed and 100 parts by weight of the monomer was mixed with a UV-blocking agent and pigments. Weight parts are mixed and formed.

Specifically, UV-5411 is 2- (2-hydroxy-5-t-octylphenyl) benzotriazole which absorbs and blocks ultraviolet rays and prevents the lens from being deformed by ultraviolet rays .

The first pigment BL-1 is a pigment for coloring the lens. When the amount of the pigment is increased, the color of the lens becomes blue. On the contrary, when the amount of the pigment is lowered, the color of the lens becomes yellow. 2 Pigment BL-2 is also a pigment for coloring the lens. When the amount of the pigment is increased, the color of the lens becomes red. On the contrary, when the amount of the pigment is lowered, the red color of the lens is weakened. And ultraviolet rays are blocked by a blue-light-emitting agent and UV-5411 so as to prevent visible light rays other than blue light and ultraviolet light from appearing distorted while the transmittance is lowered.

Further, the polymerization initiator IPP, which is further mixed with the above-mentioned monomer after mixing the blue-light-emitting agent, the ultraviolet light blocking agent and the pigments, is further reacted with a polymer which is a unit chain monomer and is a diethylene glycol bisallyl carbonate ) 73% by weight and diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate 27% by weight are mixed and 100% by weight are mixed with 3 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the monomer to react with the polymer.

As shown in FIG. 1, a blue light blocking lens is manufactured by mixing a blue light-blocking agent, a UV blocking agent and pigments in the monomer, and then adding a polymerization initiator to the polymer to react with the polymer. do.

First, a mixture of 91% by weight of the first raw material of KOC-55 and 9% by weight of the second raw material of CR-39 is mixed with the UV-blocking agent and the ultraviolet screening agent of UV-5411. The first raw material and the second raw material Was added to 100 parts by weight of the monomer combined with the ultraviolet screening agent of UV-5411 while a blue-light-emitting agent composed of a compound of thiophene and benzene was added thereto, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours at a rate of 2000 rpm. And then the functional material is mixed with the blue light and the ultraviolet ray blocking function.

The first pigment of BL-1 and the second pigment of BL-2 which emit blue light after mixing the functional material of the blue-light-emitting agent and the UV-blocking agent with the monomer were mixed The charged monomers are added in amounts of 0.44 parts by weight and 0.16 parts by weight, respectively, per 100 parts by weight of the mixture, followed by stirring at room temperature for 1 hour.

After mixing the above-mentioned monomers with the functional materials of the blue light-emitting agent and the ultraviolet screening agent, the first and second pigments are mixed. Then, a polymerization initiator of IPP is added to react the monomer with the polymer, And the mixture is vacuum agitated for 1 hour at a temperature of ~ 26 ° C, so that the composition of the blue light blocking lens is mixed.

After the monomer is reacted with the polymer by the polymerization and stirring step, the pressure of the vacuum is stopped, and nitrogen is continuously injected at a constant pressure. The composition reacted with the polymer is injected into a mold of a lens with a paper filter And then injected at a pressure of 0.08 MPa. The solidification and solidification are followed by demolding to produce a blue light blocking lens as shown in FIG. 2 or FIG. 4. Since the solidification and demolding are general technical contents A detailed explanation is omitted.

As shown in the photograph of FIG. 2, when the blue light blocking lens according to the present invention is irradiated with a beam that emits blue light in the 405 nm region, the blue light blocking lens disperses the blue light entering the lens into the lens, The amount of blue light transmitted through the lens and projected onto the white paper on the opposite side is extremely small while the blue light is concentrated on the focal point of the beam and the edge of the lens in the lens. In contrast, in the case of the conventional lens, When a beam for emitting blue light in the same 405 nm region as in FIG. 2 is irradiated, the amount of blue light transmitted through the lens and projected onto the opposite white paper is less than that of the blue light blocking lens of the present invention As described above, according to the blue light blocking lens of the present invention, Since Hebrews will be lowered to prevent glare and eye fatigue caused by blue light, and various eye diseases.

The blue light blocking lens according to the present invention shown in FIG. 4 and the conventional blue light blocking lens according to the present invention shown in FIG. 4, which diffuse substantially from the lens to the lens edge when the blue light enters the lens, The lens of the present invention clearly shows that the blue light is dispersed and diffused in the lens of the present invention. In the conventional lens, blue light passes through the lens and is projected on the opposite white paper, It can be seen from the photographs of FIGS. 2 and 3 that the magnitude and brightness of the blue light transmitted through the lens and projected onto the blank paper further significantly different the blue light cut-off rate of the lens.

In the test photographs of FIGS. 2 and 4, the blue light is strongly visible at the focal point of the beam or at the edge of the lens in the lens. However, in order to clearly show the blocking of the blue light, In fact, blue light emitted from natural light or blue light emitted from a monitor or TV is extremely small compared to the beam. Therefore, when the lens of the present invention is used for spectacles or the like, blue light is emitted from the lens in a large amount It is not.

Although the present invention has been described in detail with reference to the specific embodiments thereof, it should be understood that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims. And should be defined by equivalents as well as the claims that follow.
