Do Werewolves Really Heal that Fast?
I tell you, Twilight has opened up a whole new world for me! And not just with the whole leach factor either, but with those who have the ability to change into another form entirely. Of course, I’m talking about Jacob Black and his whole pack of werewolves. Learning about all the werewolf legends, and traits of the wolves, throughout the books was one of my favorite parts. It’s probably why I think that New Moon is one of the best books is of the series – because it focuses largely on the werewolves and how they are formed, band together, and what’s expected of them thereafter. One thing that I found most interesting throughout the series was the fact that Jacob, and all the other wolves, had the ability to heal so quickly. Because I’m aware of Stephanie Meyer and the wide interpretation she’s open to, I wondered, do werewolves really heal that fast?
What I found was that the answer is yes. Werewolves really do heal very quickly. In fact, besides their most unstoppable size and sheer strength, this is one trait of the werewolf that does make them so powerful. Minor wounds barely even have a chance to show before they are all healed. Even more serious wounds such as a gunshot will show signs of healing over only seconds after the shot hits. Larger wounds, such as large gashes or broken bones, will heal in just a few minutes or at least in under a day. Virtually anything that happens to a werewolf won’t take that long to soon be gone as though it had never even happened.
What makes this so dangerous to their enemies is that nothing seems to slow werewolves down. Even if a human or other supernatural being can fight them for long periods of time, werewolves rarely tire, if at all. So they are much more capable to keep fighting long after they theoretically should have been out of the game. Add to this the fact that wounds that would injure another being to the point of not being able to fight anymore, are simply an annoyance that won’t be around for much longer to the wolf, and it’s easy to see why fighting a werewolf may be even more difficult than you think!
There is one wound that will stop a werewolf and cannot be repaired. Should a werwolf lose a limb, it cannot be recovered. Because of this, it’s one of the best ways that an enemy has to take down a werewolf when it seems that nothing else will stop them!
Witcher 3: How to Defeat Werewolves and Stop Their Health Regen Ability
Werewolves are one of the most dangerous enemies you’ll come across in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Not only are they incredibly fast and powerful, but they can also regenerate health at a staggering rate. We’ll show you how to stop their health regen and how to bring them down for good.
How to Beat Werewolves in Witcher 3
Werewolves are one of the first enemies you’ll encounter in Witcher 3 that’ll likely require you to make some real preparation in advance. Geralt’s career as a specialized monster hunter means that you’ll be able to find and create numerous items and tricks to help you deal with such dangerous foes, aside from just attacking them with your sword. We’ll go into those in a moment.
How to Stop Werewolves Regenerating Health
When a werewolf stops fighting you and gives off a prolonged howl while throwing its head back, it’s likely starting to regenerate health. Werewolves are capable of doing this at a frightening rate, restoring their whole health bar in a matter of moments and undoing all your attempts to kill them. For those who are unprepared, fighting these monsters can feel futile as they revert back to full health in an instant.
Fortunately there’s ways around this, and the main one is Moon Dust, a bomb that can be found and crafted that stops anything it hits from activating certain abilities – like health regeneration!
Werewolves wield a dangerous mix of both strength and speed, able to bring down an unprepared player in an instant, or recover from wounds even faster. | Joel Franey/USgamer, CD Projekt Red
How to Get the Moon Dust Bombs
Moon Dust requires both a set of ingredients with which to build it, and a formula for putting it together. The formula can be got from numerous places, but the easiest is to buy it at the Herbalist’s Hut, found a little way to the North-East of Oxenfurt for 248 crowns.
The two ingredients you’ll need for a basic version of the Moon Dust are two bottles of quicksilver solution and a single dose of saltpeter. Quicksilver solutions is a little tricky to find, occasionally sold by traders at random, but can be reliably bought from the Pellar, located in the forests at the North-West of Blackbough.
Saltpeter is easier, sold by most alchemists. It can also be obtained as part of the Devil by the Well quest, found at the White Orchard notice board. However you get both ingredients, simply go into the alchemy menu and select the Moon Dust formula to craft two bombs that recharge when you meditate. You can assign these to your item slot through your inventory. From that point on, when you see a werewolf preparing to howl and heal, throw a Moon Dust bomb at it and it’ll temporarily be stopped from regaining health.
Easiest Way to Kill Werewolves
Aside from Moon Dust, there are numerous tactics you can use to bring down these monsters, both in how you fight and what you should use. We’ll go over them here:
Stay mobile. Being fast is vital against enemies like werewolves, who make wide swings for massive damage. Learn to roll rather than block, and don’t bother with heavy attacks when lighter ones will do.
Being fast is vital against enemies like werewolves, who make wide swings for massive damage. Learn to roll rather than block, and don’t bother with heavy attacks when lighter ones will do. Use Yrden and Axii for a moment of respite. The bestiary says that werewolves are weak to Igni fire magic, but it’s really not in a major way until later in the game after you’ve levelled it up. Instead, we recommend using Yrden (the slowing spell) and Axii (the hypnotizing spell) if the ridiculous speed and agility of these brutes is getting too much for you, or if you need a moment to just heal yourself.

Put Cursed Oil on your sword. It’s unlikely you’ll have this yet, but if you do, it can give you an edge. Apply it to your sword in the inventory page to do an extra 10% damage to your attacks, or even more if you’ve upgraded it.

Throw a Devil’s Puffball. These poison bombs aren’t quite as helpful as Moon Dust, but they are good at wearing down a werewolf’s health over time.

One of the first werewolves you’ll likely find is in the Wild at Heart quest, which you can find explained in detail in our guide here. Or if you want to know what to do with all that raw meat in your inventory, find out the details on cooking it in Witcher 3 here.
