BEEN THERE 14NOV2018 MY ADVISE IS NOT TO GO.THIS PLACE STRICTLY CATERS FOR BIG CHINESE TOUR GROUPS THE HUNGRY CHINESE WILL FINISH ALL THE FOOD LEAVING ONLY BITS AND PIECES FOR OTHERS.THEY ONLY TOP UP BIT BY BIT WHICH IS RIDICULOUS AS YOU HAVE A DINING TIME LIMIT ALSO YOUR CHARCOAL WILL BURN OUT B4 THEY TOP UP. HIGHLY SUSPECT THE BOSS IS A CHINESE AS THEY ONLY START TOPPING UP WHEN TOUR BUSES ARRIVE.AVOID AT ALL COSTS AND FOR THIS PRICE IT'S WISER TO GO TO A SHOPPING MALL AND DINE IN AIR CONDITIONING COMFORT

Those BBQ Restaurants are slowly closing up in the big cities in Thailand. Still very popular in the smaller cities & towns. They usually have a grill rack & a boiling pan for veges. There used to be 3 really huge ones in central Chiang Mai in 2010, but they are mostly closed now due to hotel construction. 450 ThB is a lot of money.

I've lived in Thailand for a few years now. I would never go to a live bbq. It must be to cater to the lovely chinese ppl. I am a meat eater and have slaughtered butchered and cooked my food before but I draw the line at cooking it alive.
That's why bringing the thai wife or gf makes this a great experience. (She will cook it up right). Bring a cook next time.

I would be a bit worried about knowing how to cook some of these items (although seafood generally doesn't take too long) but I wouldn't be too comfortable with cooking creatures alive. The freshness, however, would be unsurpassed!
