1812 Classic Head Large Cent Value
1812 Classic Head Large Cent
The 1812 Classic Head Large Cent is one of many US coins that can best be described as absolutely irresistible to collectors. These pieces are not only very old, they feature a design that was only utilized for a short period of time. Being that there are not very many of these coins still remaining, now is as good a time as ever for you to get your hands on one.
On the obverse side of the Classic Head Large Cent, you will see that the image of Lady Liberty is dominating the central aspect of the face. As opposed to previous years, where she was facing rightward, Lady Liberty appears to be looking off to the left. Inscribed upon a band on Lady Liberty’s forehead is the word “Liberty.” On either side of the central image are clusters of stars. The 13 total stars exist as a way to commemorate the 13 original colonies of the United States. Finally, the 1812 year of minting is indicated at the bottom of the coin.
On the reverse of the 1812 Classic Head, the central part of the coin is taken up by a raised inscription which reads “One Cent.” Completely encircling the face value inscription is a wreath. As opposed to previous editions of the Large Cent, the wreath on this coin is continuous and unbroken. Finally, there is an inscription around the outer edge of the reverse which reads “United States of America.”
Grading the 1812 Classic Head Large Cent
For coins as old as the 1812 Classic Head Large Cent, collectors will not settle for just any piece. Rather, because of the many counterfeits there are that exist, collectors will only purchase those coins that have been certified as being authentic and have been graded. Below exists an outline of the different coin grades as well as what those grades might mean for the appearance of the 1812 Classic Head Large Cent.
Uncirculated: A Large Cent that is determined to be of Uncirculated grade is one that, quite literally, never spent any time on the open market exchanging hands. As a result, these pieces will appear today exactly as they did the moment they were minted all the way back in 1812.
Extremely Fine: An 1812 Classic Head Large Cent that is determined to be of Extremely Fine grade is one that will have a few signs of wear even though it was probably never circulated. Though the scratches and/or chips that you will find on these coins will be hardly noticeable, they are still taken into consideration through the grading process.
Fine: A coin determined to be of Fine grade is one that was probably circulated for a period of time, but taken out of circulation before it could become too heavily damaged. These pieces will show signs of wear such as some smoothing as well as light, consistent scratching, but will be mostly in good shape.
Good: Good is the worst grade a coin can receive and is indicative of a piece that has been heavily worn due to years of circulation. These coins are so damaged that some of the imagery and lettering on the surface of the coin will have been almost completely worn away.

1813 Classic Head Large Cent Value
1813 Classic Head Large Cent
There were many coins produced in 1813, but of that lot very few are more popular than the Classic Head Large Cent. For one, this coin was only produced for a few years. Understanding the limited quantity of the Large Cent still around, now is the best time for you to get your hands on one. As time moves on, the total number of Large Cents still available for purchase will decrease.
On the obverse side of the coin, the central part of the coin is dominated by the raised image of Lady Liberty. Though older Large Cents saw Lady Liberty facing rightward, this coin sees her facing to the left. Inscribed on a band on Lady Liberty’s head is the word “Liberty.” To both the left and the right of the central image are groupings of stars which represent the original 13 colonies of the United States. Finally, the 1813 year of minting is inscribed towards the bottom of the coin.
The reverse side of the Classic Head Large Cent has a raised inscription which reads “One Cent.” The face value inscription is surrounded by an ornate wreath, which is depicted in great detail. Surrounding all of this is yet another inscription which reads “United States of America.”
Grading the 1813 Classic Head Large Cent
Being that the 1813 Classic Head was produced so long ago and is so rare, it should come as no surprise that counterfeits exist. Collectors, always striving to avoid falling victim to counterfeited coins, are only going to buy the Large Cents that have been graded and certified as authentic. An outline of the different coin grades, as well as what those grades mean, exists below.
Uncirculated: If a Large Cent is determined to be Uncirculated, this means that it never spent any time on the open market exchanging hands. Because of this, these coins will be in absolutely pristine condition and will look today just as they did back in 1813.
Extremely Fine: Extremely Fine is a grade given to coins that were probably never circulated, but are not free from damage. Though the damage on these coins can best be described as insignificant, it is still taken into consideration during the grading process.
Fine: A coin determined to be of Fine grade is one that was circulated for an extended period of time, but removed from circulation before too much damage could occur. You will notice light, consistent scratching along with some smoothing, but all in all these coins will be in decent shape.
Good: The lowest grade a Large Cent can receive, Good is assigned to coins that have been heavily damaged and circulated. The damage on these coins will be so severe (in most cases) that some of the raised imagery and lettering on the surfaces of the Large Cent will have been partially worn away.
Pricing the 1813 Classic Head Large Cent
In terms of assigning a price to the 1813 Classic Head Large Cent, this is something that depends upon a few different items. First off, the scarcity of the coin will come into play. If there are only a limited number of coins available and a large number of people hoping to purchase them, it goes without saying that the price will be higher. Secondly, you must consider condition. The more well-preserved a coin is the more expensive it will be more often than not. The chart below is aimed at giving you a better idea as to what you might be asked to pay for an 1813 Classic Head Large Cent given its grade.

With that being said, it is also one of the rarest coins produced by the US Mint seeing as it was only in circulation for a short period of time. Being that the total number of these coins in circulation is decreasing at a fairly rapid, pace, now is as good a time as ever to get your hands on one.
On the obverse side of the Classic Head, you will see a depiction of Lady Liberty in the center. As opposed to previous editions, Lady Liberty is facing leftward. Inscribed upon a band on her head is the word “Liberty.” To both the left and the right of the central image are groupings of stars. In total, there are 13 stars representative of the 13 original colonies of the United States. Finally, the 1814 year of minting is listed towards the bottom of the obverse.

Extremely Fine: A coin that is determined to be of Extremely Fine grade is one that was probably never circulated, but is also not free from damage. These pieces will show some signs of scratching and other minor signs of wear, but will, for the most part, appear to be in extremely solid condition.
