2022 Audi R8 Lease Deals & Specials

Please change location of cup holders to somewhere more functional, like sister company Lamborghini and Huracan model. Aren’t these based off the same platform? Someone forgot about the cup holders. Also, no visibility out of the B pillars. Blind spots, therefore blind spot warning in side mirrors would have been greatly appreciated. Other than these two things and always more power, the vehicle is on another level amazing! Brings a smile to my face every time. This is not the only Supercar I’ve owned, so this is an experienced compliment.

Very well built car with plenty of power, technology, and handling. Most economical price point in its segment. Think Lamborghini Huracan with $70,000 less sticker shock. That to me makes it a bang for the buck. Easy to get in and out of compared to its rivals. Visibility is good minus the B pillars. Everything was well thought out except for cup holder placement. Will not disappoint in the acceleration department. Makes great noise from the exhaust note. ThatV10 is just awesome! Only better engine available would be, big brothers V12 Aventador engine, or possibly Ferrari’s V12 Superfast engine. Both are priced well over $100,000 more though. I’ve mentioned this in about 6 other surveys. Cup holder is in a terrible location. Learn from the sister companies, Lamborghini and porsche 911 cup holder locations. I believe the engineering was available for such. Doing a 99% effort on all the engineering and technology but leaving 1% off on cup holder placement just doesn’t make any sense. Also, blind spot monitors I would have gladly paid for. Even an extra $5K I wouldn’t have minded just so I know who is in my right rear corner. For now I pray I don’t hit anyone every time I drive the vehicle. B pillars completely block any visibility. That is scary. If you don’t fix cupholders, you should definitely fix this. All other model Audi’s probably have this technology, so what’s the issue?

The Audi R8 Tricked Us Into Thinking Supercars Should Be Daily Drivers

Exotic cars and supercars aren’t exactly what comes to mind when you imagine your daily commute, but that doesn’t stop people from trying. There are some cars that hands down make horrible options for a daily driver, like the Lotus Elise, but there are some that aren’t that bad if you are willing to make some sacrifices. The Audi R8 is a good option if you are looking to daily drive something more exciting than a Toyota Camry, but just because there is one supercar worth daily driving doesn’t mean we can be tricked into believing they all are.

What makes the Audi R8 a good daily?

The Audi R8 makes a surprisingly good option for a daily driver. The cabin isn’t very large and it isn’t a good option if you are looking to have more than one passenger, but the two seats are comfortable and roomy enough to make a short or even long commute tolerable.

Buying a used R8 will also ease your stress about adding miles, but the cars are uncommon enough that you can rack up the miles without having to stress about the loss of value.

Driving a supercar makes your daily commute just a little less dull, and can make even the most annoying traffic that much more enjoyable. There are some sacrifices that need to be made to make driving a supercar everyday work, but if you’re willing to make those sacrifices it can be well worth it.

What other supercar lack

There are many other exotic cars and supercars on the market that lack just about everything you could want from a daily driver, and depending on what you are looking for in a car will determine just how much you can sacrifice.

For many people, discomfort can be a big turn off, but others are willing to deal with it to an extent. There are some supercars that are uncomfortable to get in and out of, but once you are inside are just as comfortable to drive for hours, like the BMW I8. There are some supercars that are uncomfortable for your entire drive, and will likely result in a weekly trip to the chiropractor if you chose to take it to the office every day.

Dropping off and picking up children can also be part of a normal routine, and many cars lack the ability to do so for several reasons. Lack of back seats, or at least reasonable back seat space, is the first major one, and that limits you to one passenger who must be old enough to ride in the front seat safely.

RELATED: Can You Daily Drive A Lotus Elise

There is also a significant lack of storage space in most supercars, so trying to shove backpacks, briefcases, and soccer bags into the trunk, frunk, or down by the passenger’s feet can be almost completely useless. Sure, you can put roof racks on your Lamborghini, but chances are you probably don’t want to.

Audi R8 Versus the Competition

Audi R8 vs. Acura NSX

The Acura NSX is one of the few luxury sports cars with a higher price tag than the R8 (about $15,000 higher, in fact). Both cars have two seats, grippy all-wheel-drive systems, and paltry cargo space. The duo go about their performance in different ways though. The NSX has a hybrid V6 powertrain, while the R8 boasts a thunderous V10 engine. However, the NSX has a lower-quality interior and a rather clunky infotainment system.

Compare the R8 and NSX »

Audi R8 vs. Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R features a twin-turbo V6 engine that can catapult the car up to speed with unbelievable ferocity, and it handles admirably around turns. It also seats up to four, whereas the R8 only seats two people. However, the GT-R falls far short of the R8, and many other luxury sports cars, in terms of ride comfort, interior quality, and overall refinement.

R8 Performance: Stark Power

R8 Engine

All R8 models have a V10 engine with at least 562 horsepower. It’s a smooth, responsive powertrain with plenty of oomph. Hit the gas when the light turns green and prepare to be thrown back in your seat as you rocket forward. There’s plenty of power for highway merging and passing, and the robust exhaust note will announce your presence with authority. The transmission shifts quickly and smoothly for the most part, especially when operated using the shift paddles.

R8 Gas Mileage

Luxury sports cars aren’t known for their fuel efficiency, but even by the lowered standards of this class, the Audi R8 is inefficient. Fuel economy ratings have not been released for the 2022 model yet, but they’re expected to be similar to those of the 2021 model. The rear-wheel-drive 2021 R8 gets an EPA-estimated 14 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Upgrading to all-wheel drive drops ratings to 13/20 mpg city/highway.

R8 Ride and Handling

The R8 provides an excellent balance between comfort and athleticism. Some rivals might deliver more pure performance, but this Audi feels sure-footed and agile on all but the tightest turns, and its steering is quick and nicely weighted. Despite this athleticism, the R8 manages to ride comfortably on rough pavement and fulfill day-to-day commuting duties without wearing down the driver.

How Fast Is the Audi R8?

The R8 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 201 mph. The R8 Performance variant boasts an even quicker zero-to-60 time of 3.2 seconds and a 205 mph top speed.

Does the Audi R8 Have All-Wheel Drive?

Yes, the R8 is available with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. This setup transmits power to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions. Power is sent to the front wheels when slip is detected.

R8 Interior: Driver-Focused but Reasonably Comfortable

R8 Interior Quality

The R8’s minimalist interior manages to look elegant rather than austere, and there are plenty of quality materials. This Audi doesn’t have the typical feel of a luxury car, but for a vehicle that’s designed to do little more than go fast, it’s pretty plush.

R8 Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The 12.3-inch gauge cluster does an excellent job of displaying the R8’s infotainment functions and instrumentation. It has crisp graphics, and it’s easy to operate using the steering wheel buttons and the dial on the center console. The climate controls are similarly intuitive.

Standard infotainment features: a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (Audi’s Virtual Cockpit), navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, a five-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot

R8 Cargo Space

The Audi R8 is a supercar designed to do anything you ask of it… unless you’re asking to put two suitcases in the trunk at the same time. The R8’s trunk (located at the front of the car) provides a paltry 3.9 cubic feet of space.

How Many People Does the R8 Seat?

The R8 seats two people. The standard seats are comfortable, supportive, and decently spacious for taller occupants. The available racing seats are uncomfortable, due to their minimal adjustability and thin padding.

R8 and Child Car Seats

Like many two-seat sports cars, the R8 does not have LATCH car-seat connectors. We do not recommend installing a car seat in the front seat of any vehicle.

Where Is the 2022 Audi R8 Built?

Audi builds the 2022 R8 in Germany.

When Did the Audi R8 First Come Out?

The first-generation Audi R8 launched in the U.S. market for the 2008 model year. The R8 is a two-seat sports car that’s based on the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car. The first R8 models came standard with a V8 engine and were available with a V10. The R8’s convertible body style, known as the Spyder, was also introduced for 2008. Audi rolled out a redesigned R8 for 2017, following a one-year hiatus. That marked the beginning of the current R8 generation, which includes the 2022 model. This generation features updated exterior styling, a more advanced infotainment system, and a standard V10 engine (the V8 was discontinued).

Which Audi R8 Model Is Right for Me?

The 2022 Audi R8 comes in two trims: base and Performance. Both are available in coupe and convertible (R8 Spyder) body styles. We suggest sticking with the base model given that the R8 is already a pricey car. It should provide more than enough thrills, even for seasoned sports car owners.

The base R8 V10 starts at around $143,000 for coupe models and $155,000 for convertible models, and it comes equipped with a 562-horsepower V10 engine, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive.

Standard tech features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (Audi’s Virtual Cockpit), navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, a five-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, two USB ports, wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Additional standard features include leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a retractable rear wing. Convertible models also include a power-retractable soft top.

Options include a 13-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, diamond-stitched seats, leather-wrapped dashboard and door panels, an Alcantara headliner, carbon-fiber interior and exterior accents, red-painted brake calipers, and laser headlights.

The R8 V10 Performance costs about $197,000 for coupe models and $209,000 for convertible models. This trim features an upgraded V10 engine with 602 horsepower, and it gains Quattro all-wheel drive, a fixed-position rear wing, carbon-ceramic brakes, lightweight titanium wheels, laser headlights, carbon-fiber interior accents, and racing-inspired seats. In addition to the previously listed options, this trim is available with variable-ratio steering.
