Can I tint my own eyebrows?

Can you tint your eyebrows at home? Yes – you can! If you’re ever in a rush, or like to think of yourself as a bit of a beauty DIY pro, tinting your eyebrows at home couldn’t be easier.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

If you are tired of filling in your eyebrows every day, then eyebrow tinting might just be for you. It’s a semi-permanent option that gives you a longer-lasting look without the sacrifice of expensive (and kinda scary) microblading.

Fast, easy and totally affordable – eyebrow tinting is a win-win situation.

But what does eyebrow tinting involve? Is it expensive and can you do it yourself? We put the questions to the experts and summarized everything you need to know before getting your eyebrow tinted…

Everything you need to know about eyebrow tinting

What does eyebrow tinting do?

Eyebrow tinting semi-permanently changes the color of your brow hairs, adding more pigment and making them look fuller. According to Jaimineey Patel, Blink Brow Bar’s head of training, “tinting is one of the quickest ways to achieve a thicker, natural-looking, and long-lasting brow.”

First, similar to coloring your hair, a base cream or petroleum jelly is applied around your brow area to prevent the color from staining your skin.

Then the semi-permanent color is mixed before being applied to your eyebrows with a spoolie brush. Some places mix the tint individually to get the perfect shade for you, while others get the right shade by letting the tint sit for different lengths of time.

As a rule of thumb, you still want to stay 1 or 2 shades lighter than your hair color. Too matchy-matchy looks a bit weird and anything super dark can look slightly scary.

Makeup artist Lisa Potter-Dixon says, “Brow tinting is the quickest way to achieve a thicker, more natural-looking brow. At Benefit (where I was previously Head Artist) they custom blend the tint for you to achieve the most natural colour.’

How long does eyebrow tinting take?

Eyebrow tinting takes between 1-5 minutes (depending on hair type) before the color is wiped away and your brows are done! The skin around your eyebrows shouldn’t have been affected by the color – but if there are smudges, don’t panic, they’ll wash away over the next day or so.

Who can have their eyebrows tinted?

Unless you’re allergic to any of the ingredients in hair dye (similar to box color dye, you’ll need to do a patch test first), eyebrow dying works for pretty much everyone. Even the lightest blondes and redheads can have their eyebrows tinted. In fact, Patel believes they’re often the best candidates: “Toning is a great long-lasting option, especially for those with light or blonde hair, as it can add brows you never thought you had!”

How long does eyebrow tinting last?

According to Patel, a couple of weeks. Eyebrow and eyelash tinting usually lasts between 2-3 weeks, but this can vary from person to person depending on skin type, skin care regimen and sun exposure (sun has a bleaching effect). .’ A monthly charge is enough for most people.

It will fade naturally and you’ll hardly notice it’s even happening. Then one day you’ll wake up and realize you want to do them all over again!

Does eyebrow dye damage your eyebrows?

If done right, no. Since the tint is semi-permanent and contains no bleach, it is gentle on the hair.

Do you need an eyebrow tint patch test?

Yes, you must do a patch test 24 hours beforehand. The beautician should point this out to you when booking the appointment. It’s a bit faff and can be annoying if you haven’t timed it, but don’t skip it, we’ve all seen the horror stories…

In the patch test, a small amount of dye is applied behind the ear or in the crook of the arm and left overnight. It takes a full 30 seconds so just walk in and have one made a day or so beforehand.

Can you dye your eyebrows at home?

Yes you can! If you’re in a hurry or like to consider yourself a beauty do-it-yourself pro, tinting your eyebrows at home couldn’t be easier.

Boxed brow tints such as Colorsport 30 Day Brow Tint, £8.25 and Eylure Dybrow, £7.50 are commercially available, good value and easy to use. Always read the instructions, but most at-home eyebrow tints require a slightly longer wait as the color isn’t as strong as in the salon.

How to tint your brows at home:

Step One: Just like in a salon, first apply a base cream (to avoid staining). Vaseline is perfect for this.

Step Two: Mix your tint using the tools included in the kit and start applying the mixture to your brows. Really rub the brush back and forth to make sure each hair is coated to the root.

Step Three: Leave the mixture on your brows for about 5-10 minutes depending on how dark you want the result. Use this time to take a cotton swab and simply clean up any edges around where you applied the brow tint.

Step Four: Wipe with a clean cloth and voila! Perfect brows at home!

While getting a little color on your skin isn’t the end of the world, you can easily prevent it from happening in the first place. If you happen to have a barrier cream handy, feel free to use that, but you don’t have to buy one as two common household items work just as well. Using your fingertip, apply either product around your browbones, being careful not to get too close to the hairs: “Leave about two hairs’ width around the browbone, as you don’t want it to hit the hair.” actual hair, as this prevents the color from being absorbed,” notes Gafni.

Whether you want to fill in sparse spots, shape your arches, or cover up pesky grays, here are five of the best options.

Can you use lash tint on eyebrows?

‌Eyebrow and eyelash tinting is a beauty procedure where semi-permanent dye is painted onto your eyebrows or eyelashes. The purpose is to make them appear thicker, darker, and fuller. The procedure lasts for 15 minutes, but the color stays on for about 3 to 6 weeks.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

Always start with a patch test. Allergic reactions may occur after applying eyebrow and eyelash tint. Test a small area first before applying the color to your eyebrows or eyelashes. This is known as running a patch test and is an important step, especially when switching between brands. It helps you to know how your body reacts to a certain product.‌

Use different applicators. Using applicators that work best for each purpose reduces the risk of getting paint in your eyes. For example, you might want to use a mascara applicator as it works well for the middle to tips of the lashes, while a thinner, more precise applicator works better to deliver color to the lash roots. ‌

Always have fresh water at hand. Most, if not all, eyelash dyes contain peroxide, a chemical used to activate the dye. It is this peroxide that stings and burns if it gets in your eyes. It’s important to have cold water nearby as you can use it to flush your eyes if the solution seeps in and causes a sting.

Prevent stains on the skin. Since self-tanner reacts with eyebrow and eyelash tint, it is recommended that you do not apply self-tanner for at least a week before tinting your eyelashes.

Is eylure eyebrow tint good?

Not only is it an Amazon bestseller with an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5 from over 1,800 reviews, but it’s also one of my favourite products ever – I’ve been using it since 2015. Eylure Dybrow tints every last tiny baby hair instantly making my brows look thicker than before.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

Tired of filling in your eyebrows every day or can’t get to the salon to color your arches? If so, at-home eyebrow tinting is the breakthrough treatment you must try.

This beauty treatment is nothing new or revolutionary. It uses permanent dyes (similar to at-home hair color) to enhance and add definition, creating the illusion of thicker, fuller brows.

Eylure makes at-home brow tinting easy, and beauty lovers love the brand’s best-selling Eylure Dybrow Permanent Tint for Brows – so much that a kit sells every 30 seconds in the UK.

Eylure Dybrow is a hit with beauty lovers with a kit selling in the UK every 30 seconds

It doesn’t matter if you have thin, sparse arches or thick, bushy brows, Eylure Dybrow is the easy way to give your brows an instant makeover at home. It only takes 15 minutes and you’re good to go.

And it’s relatively cheap. You can get the kit from Amazon for £6.40 or from Superdrug for £7.49, with each kit offering up to 12 uses.

You can pay up to £25 for a brow tint at a salon, but it tends to fade within two weeks and be completely gone by four weeks depending on hair growth. So not only does this coloring kit save you money, it doesn’t cost you much work and streamlines your morning makeup routine.

Not only is it an Amazon bestseller with an average star rating of 4.5 out of 5 from over 1,800 reviews, it’s also one of my favorite products ever – I’ve been using it since 2015.

Eylure Dybrow instantly colors every tiny baby hair and makes my brows look thicker than before. It’s affordable and gets the job done. And if you enjoy plucking your eyebrows, I recommend tinting them first, as the shape of your eyebrows will be more defined after the treatment, making you less likely to over-pluck. I couldn’t be without.

But what does eyebrow tinting at home entail? Always read the instructions, but it’s easy to use.

Before you go ahead and mix the coloring cream and activation solution together, Sara Sordillo, makeup artist at Eylure, recommends applying petroleum jelly around your brow area to avoid staining your skin.

‹ Slide me › Eylure Dybrow colors every tiny baby hair instantly and makes my brows look thicker

Next, sweep the blended tint through the brows, making sure the hair is completely covered.

“Brush up, down, and left to right to make sure every hair is covered,” recommends Sara. “Start your timer as soon as the first eyebrow is covered. This way you get a more even result as you remove the tint from the first brow that makes the time difference.’

After applying the tint, it only takes a few minutes for it to develop before removing it to reveal freshly tanned brows.

She added: “If you have lighter hair color and lighter brows and want to keep the color more natural, decrease the time the tint is on the brows as you can always repeat the steps to darken but not lighten.” .”

Remember to do a patch test at least 48 hours before tinting your eyebrows.

For best results and a natural finish, I recommend applying the color to the end of the brow first, working your way forward through the arch.

Brow lamination involves the “perming” of your eyebrow hairs to provide a fuller, more even look. It can also help keep them in place after washing off any cosmetics you may wear. Here’s what’s involved in the procedure: First, your provider will apply a cream to your brows that aims to “lift” up your hairs.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

What is eyebrow lamination? Brow lamination is a relatively new procedure that focuses on creating glossy, smooth brows. Sometimes referred to as “eyebrow perms,” the high-shine effects are typically sought after by those suffering from thinning or unruly brows. Unlike microblading, needles and staining are not involved. As a semi-permanent procedure, brow lamination can also be a good choice if you want to keep your brows styled a certain way but are tired of using brow gel every day. You’ll need to repeat the process at some point in the future to get your results, and there are risks. Read on to find out everything you need to know about this trend.

Brow Lamination Instructions Brow lamination involves “perming” your eyebrow hairs to create a fuller, more even look. It can also help keep them in place after you’ve washed off any cosmetics you may have worn. Here’s what’s involved in the procedure: First, your doctor applies a cream to your brows that aims to “lift” your hairs. Next, your brow hairs are brushed up to pull them in a uniform vertical direction. Then your provider will apply a neutralizer to seal your brows. The final step is a conditioning oil to prevent skin irritation and hair dryness that can be caused by the chemicals used during the perm. Overall, brow lamination takes 1 hour or less. Optional additions to the procedure may include: Plucking excess hair

Wax to create your desired arch

Tinting to Enhance or Change Color You should also apply a conditioning oil or cream every night to prevent your eyebrows from drying out.

Benefits of Lamination of the Brows Lamination of the eyebrows can help address a variety of issues you may have with your own brows, including: Thinning hair that can occur with age

Gaps in your brows from over-plucking or waxing in the past

Unruly hair that tends to go in different directions despite brushing

Missing shape or unevenness Overall, the brow lining should make the brows appear thicker and fuller. Pulling the hair up vertically can also appear as if you are experiencing new growth. The entire process is also completely non-invasive.

Potential Risks and Side Effects While brow lamination is non-invasive compared to brow surgery, tattooing, or other related procedures, there are still some side effects you should be aware of before booking your appointment. Such risks are mostly related to skin irritation caused by the chemicals. These include: swelling

redness

peeling

itching

Bumps The side effects can appear just below and above your eyebrows, but they can also extend to your eyelids. This procedure may not be recommended if you: Have sensitive skin

History of contact dermatitis Just as perming the hair on your head can cause dryness and damage, brow lamination can potentially damage your eyebrows in the same way. Your chances are greater if you repeat the process too often or earlier than 6 weeks. Another more serious risk is eye damage. This can happen if the chemicals get into your eyes during the procedure.

Before and after pictures Brow lamination is designed to give your brows a thicker, smoother look. Check out the before and after pictures below to see what your own results may look like.

How long does brow lamination last? Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of eyebrow lamination is that the effect is temporary. To maintain your new brows, you need to repeat the process every few months, similar to a traditional perm. It is also important that your provider applies a moisturizing oil or cream to your brows immediately after the treatment. You can apply the same product at home to keep your eyebrows healthy and undamaged.

How much does brow lamination cost? Based on average cost research, an eyebrow lamination can range from $50 to $100 per session. Compared to other brow procedures, brow lamination is considered extremely affordable. This is probably because the process takes little time and materials. Still, it’s important to know that the cost of brow lamination can vary from provider to provider. Ask about the cost before the procedure.

How to Find a Vendor For brow lamination, contact an esthetician or professional makeup artist. Ask potential vendors if they have specific experience with this process. You can also search for “brow salons” or “brow artists” near you. These facilities mainly work with eyebrow treatments. No matter which provider you choose, be sure to ask about their experience

Notes on aftercare and possible side effects

Alternatives to Brow Lamination There are a number of brow area treatments that aim to create a fuller appearance. Many of these procedures involve permanent coloring that is not FDA approved for the eye area. Below are previews of other popular eyebrow lamination alternatives. Microblading Microblading is a professional eyebrow procedure that uses needles to make small incisions in the skin under the eyebrows. Similar to tattooing, pigments are then inserted into these cuts to create a fuller look. Overall, the result lasts around 12 to 18 months before the color begins to fade. Microshading This procedure is similar in principle to microblading, but adds pigment to your brows via small dots. The results of microshading are semi-permanent and only last a few months before you need to repeat the procedure. Permanent Tattooing If you have a higher pain tolerance and want more permanent color results compared to microblading and microshading, you can consider permanent makeup tattooing. The color can still fade after several years and there may be an increased risk of side effects as the tattoo needles penetrate deeper layers of the skin. Tinting A far less invasive way to achieve voluminous color is to tint the eyebrows. This is the professional application of tinted color in a salon. Results last for several weeks before you may need to repeat the process. Penciling Another way to fill in sparse brows and add more volume is to use colored eyeliner or powder. For best results, choose a shade that matches your natural eyebrow color. Use light strokes until you achieve your desired look. Brow Gel If you’re looking to treat unruly brow hairs rather than fill them in, consider a waterproof brow gel. The applicator resembles a mascara brush and is designed to be applied directly to the browbones in an up-out motion. Like a pencil, the brow gel lasts until you wash it off.

What is HD Brow lamination?

HD Brow Scuplt is a form of lamination process.

It involves a two-step eyebrow perming treatment that involves correcting the brow shape by setting the hairs in place using a chemical solution.

What is HD Brow Sculpt?

HD Brow Scuplt is a kind of lamination process. It is a two-step eyebrow permanent wave treatment that corrects the shape of the eyebrows by setting the hairs in place with a chemical solution.

In the first step, a cream is applied that breaks bonds in the eyebrow hairs so they can be manipulated into a new position. In the second step, another cream is applied to rebuild these bonds and bring the brows into their new unified position.

If you have unruly, flat or downward-growing hair, eyebrow lamination can change the direction of growth for a more even look with a higher arch and a more desirable brow shape. Brow lamination generally takes 4 to 6 weeks, with proper care, brow treatment can last up to 8 weeks.

If this new trending and demanded technique is not enough, eyebrow lamination is just a part of Full HD Brow Sculpt treatment.

Our corrective eyebrow treatment realigns your brow hairs into the desired position and makes them much easier to manipulate. It can also help create fuller-looking brows instantly with your existing hair.

Whether you want shape correction, hair lift, or both, here are the benefits of our customized brow lamination treatment solution.

What is a brow sculpt and tint?

An initial brow sculpt treatment involves measuring and mapping out the bow design, an eyebrow wax, tint, trim and tweeze to specifically suit your needs and aims to create groomed and fuller looking brows. During this service ‘brow correction’ and styling advice will be given to create your ideal brow shape.

BROW SCULPT-$35| $50 with a tint or hybrid brow tint

An initial brow modeling treatment includes measuring and mapping the arch design, an eyebrow wax, tint, trimming and tweezers to suit your specific needs and aims to create well groomed and fuller looking brows. During this service, you will receive a “Brow Correction” and styling consultation to create your ideal brow shape. We also spend some time teaching you how to apply eyebrow products to achieve the look you want.

BROW HENNA- $70 with a sculpt

Brow Henna is an organic, plant-based color that contains no chemicals. This is used to color the hair and “tint” the skin to create a permanent brow design. The product penetrates deeper into the hair shaft than traditional toners and provides longer-lasting results, ideal for gray coverage. Your treatment includes carefully measuring and shaping the brow, applying henna, and waxing/tinting the brows. Henna may be stronger for the first 48 hours depending on the color used and requires the design to remain dry for the first 24 hours. For blondes who have never tried coloring before, book a traditional brow shaping and coloring before moving on to henna.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A BROW SHAPING TREATMENT?

We recommend around 3-6 brow shaping sessions to get your brows on the right track. After your first treatment, maintenance treatments are recommended every 4-6 weeks depending on your natural hair growth.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BROWS DON’T GROW?

What is eyebrow mapping?

Eyebrow mapping is a shaping technique that uses the golden ratio for facial proportions to help achieve symmetry and sculpt the most flattering shape for your brows.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

I will never forget the first time I saw Megan Fox. I was 18 and she was the shining star of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (no shadow to Optimus Prime). Everyone on earth was talking about how beautiful Megan Fox was, but I could only focus on one thing: her eyebrows. They were perfect – arched, impeccably symmetrical and very bold. I believe this was the pivotal moment in eyebrow history that ushered in the transition from the thin, over-plucked brows of the ’90s and early years to the full, untouched hair trends of today. Anyone else seeking justice for Megan and her forward-thinking ways? Let me know.

I have never plucked my eyebrows but they are still uneven. It usually takes me quite a bit of time, product, and frustration to get my eyebrows relatively symmetrical, and even then the arches are crooked. Not only is it annoying, but it also makes me want to hide them under oversized sunglasses. After weeks of Googling the latest techniques and practitioners I found something that spoke to me so loudly; it might as well have screamed my full name: eyebrow mapping. I’d never heard of it, but after scrolling through the SIX+AIT Instagram feed, I signed up for an eyebrow mapping and microblading treatment, optimistic my uneven brows would finally get in shape.

Read on to learn more about eyebrow mapping, what to expect during the treatment and all about my first eyebrow mapping experience.

What is eyebrow mapping?

Eyebrow mapping is a shaping technique that uses the golden ratio of facial proportions to achieve symmetry and create the most flattering shape for your brows. “When the eyebrows follow the golden ratio, they appear harmonious with the rest of the client’s facial features,” explains Lucy Masu, master trainer, director and co-founder of SIX+AIT. “And nature is the greatest artist of all; All we can do as mortals is play by the rules.”

So what is this seemingly magical golden ratio anyway? According to Peaches, a master teacher, director and co-founder of SIX+AIT, “[the golden ratio] is the mathematical ratio of 1.618 to 1. It represents the ideal visual harmony and balance. It is often used in design, architecture and fine arts. Like the complex human body and objects found in nature, the ‘perfect eyebrows’ follow the golden ratio rule.”

But what does eyebrow mapping involve? “Your brow specialist will take measurements and place marks on the skin. You can then either shape and color your brows or get them microbladed,” says Cara Lovello, a famous makeup artist. At SIX+AIT, the eyebrow mapping technique is taken a step further as the artists use the string brow mapping method. “Instead of just drawing and marking with a ruler and pencil, using an inked string is highly precise and technical. With this method, there is less margin for error when trying to achieve symmetry,” explains Masu. “When we show clients their newly framed brow design using this method, many of them are shocked at how uneven their brows were originally.” In fact, the artists at SIX+AIT consider brow mapping to be a crucial precursor to microblading and creating more symmetrical ones Brew.

Benefits of eyebrow mapping

Helps achieve eyebrow symmetry

Enhances ability to shape your ideal brow shape

Helps to put the artist and the client on the same page

If you’re looking for truly even brows, brow mapping might be the way to go. “How many of us have 100 percent walked out of the hair salon and are sure that our eyebrows are different heights? That’s probably due to the lack of eyebrow mapping,” says Masu. Catherine Wright, owner of Holiday Organic Skin, says that eyebrow mapping helps determine where your brows should start, end, and arch, and that good-looking brows help you look and feel good. “Eyebrows frame your face,” she says. “A nice brow, a touch of mascara and you’re ready for whatever the day might bring.”

According to Masu, the biggest benefit of eyebrow mapping — and the String Brow Mapping method in particular — is that it makes it easier for clients to see their natural asymmetry. “It helps them see the work that needs to be done to achieve more symmetry and harmony. When your customers can easily identify your vision, collaboration and communication becomes smoother,” she explains.

How to prepare for eyebrow mapping

Masu advises you to always grow your brows out as much as possible before heading in for your treatment, no matter what treatment you receive after the brow mapping. She explains, “This will help your artist visualize the possibilities of different shapes and styles for you. A good artist will always try to work within reason with what you have.”

What to expect during an eyebrow mapping experience

At SIX+AIT, the eyebrow mapping process begins with a consultation with your artist about your brow preferences and lifestyle. Peaches asked me about my skin type. It is dehydrated and oily due to extensive travel and lazy water intake. She stressed that using Retin-A is a big no-go for anyone with microblading as it can change the color of the pigment. Luckily I had been off that for quite a while so we were good to go.

Your eyebrows will be cleaned and then you will lie down on the treatment table for the measuring process. Using a special ruler that looked like a combination of architectural tool and medical device, Peaches checked the distance between all points of my upper face, brow length, nose, corner of my eye and forehead, looking for symmetry. “Your artist will find a starting point for the head, bow and tail. These three points follow the golden ratio to achieve the best balance,” explains Masu. “The artist then uses an inked string, similar to threading string, to draw ‘lines’ across different areas of the forehead to create symmetry while also shaping the brows.” With all the lines and dimension on my forehead I saw I look like Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.

When Peaches showed me the changes she would need to create more symmetry, I was startled and so excited. I started listing everything I could do in my free time now that I didn’t have to straighten my eyebrows every day. Those 10 to 20 minutes add up!

Then, when the eyebrow mapping procedure precedes the microblading (as was the case for me), a surgical marker is used to “set” the shape and prepare the skin for the anesthesia. I expected the treatment to hurt, but I didn’t feel anything except the slight stinging of the color application midway through the procedure. Everyone is different and it’s worth noting that I have a very high pain threshold, but Peaches’ numbing cream worked for me.

Since there were originally hairless areas microbladed by Peaches, she reiterated how much I needed a touch up and scheduled it for six weeks later before I left the studio.

At-home vs. professional brow mapping

All our experts say that it is difficult to do eyebrow mapping yourself, although it is possible. “The technique can be learned in the DIY scene, sifting through the many ratios of mapping to find the right one,” says Wright. “We don’t recommend it because fiddling with hot wax in the mirror can make your brows uneven or disappear.” In other words, even if you’re mathematical, architectural, and artistic, you still need to remove the hairs in the places where you’re looking where you shape your brows. And an at-home waxing job will rarely reproduce the quality results you get from a professional artist who can wax or microblad your brows with the best tools, techniques, and experience.

But if you’re the DIY type and feel like you have the confidence and patience to try your hand at brow mapping, Lovello has some tips: “From a makeup artist’s perspective on ‘mapping’ your brows at home, before you fill them in, hold your angled brush next to your nose — that’s where your brow should start.” Lovello says using this point as a guide for where to start your brows will help ensure your brows aren’t too close are close together or too far apart. “Next, hold your brush at an angle from the corner of your nose and let it rest on the corner of your eye. Where the brush and brow meet is the length it should be on the outside,” she explains.

possible side effects

Brow mapping itself does not actually have any disadvantages or risks. However, it is usually a precursor to waxing or microblading. Wright says there are some health contraindications to waxing. For example, certain prescription medications can make your skin too thin and sensitive to grow safely. It is best to consult your doctor if you are taking any medication. And Lovello notes, “Microblading is a semi-permanent solution, so unless you’re willing to commit, I’d give threading and brow tinting a try.” Another risk is not finding the right eyebrow artist for the job.”

The costs

Brow mapping typically costs $35 to $120. At Wright’s Salon, the service costs $45. Brow mapping at SIX+AIT is not an independent service and therefore not cheap. An eyebrow mapping and microblading session with Peaches costs $1000, while a session with her peers ranges from $650 to $900. Your first touch-up, which is recommended within the first six months, costs $300. The second costs $450 and should be anywhere from six months to a year. If you get a booster one year after the first treatment, look at a price of $550.

post-treatment

With eyebrow mapping itself, there is no aftercare. “You’re then prompted to hold the shape either by plucking or threading,” says Masu. But if you get microblading, Lovello says you might not want to plan anything for a few days afterward because your brows will darken and scab over. Wright adds that applying organic aloe can help if you’ve been waxed or are otherwise experiencing pain and irritation.

I followed Peaches’ aftercare instructions to the last detail. The day after my treatment my brows were much darker, but by the sixth day most of the darker pigment had naturally flaked off and healed. I have multiple tattoos so the aftercare and healing phase was easy and familiar for me and I literally couldn’t be happier with my newfound symmetry.

How Often Should You Have Your Eyebrows Charted?

“Brow mapping should be done whenever you feel you need to achieve better symmetry — prior to coloring, sculpting, or microblading,” says Masu. However, how long your beautifully shaped brows will last after mapping depends on how you remove the hair (waxing, microblading, etc.). Wright says that when it comes to waxing, “typically, you need a session every three weeks to look your best. They will be shaggy after four weeks as the brow hairs grow on a 30 day cycle.”

The last snack

“Probably everyone should prefer brow mapping to a brow service where the beautician just grows out the desired shape. It’s like blindfolded driving – awesome!” shares Wright. Masu adds that if you feel like your brows have always been uneven, getting your brows mapped is an excellent idea. She says that since brow mapping is usually a precursor to additional beauty services like tinting or microblading, anyone considering these services should ask if their artists can also do brow mapping. I’m obsessed with how well mine turned out and loved that I don’t even have to touch them anymore, but they are beautifully curved and symmetrical. Maybe I’m not quite on Megan Fox level, but hey, I feel pretty damn close.

The 3 Best Eyebrow Tint Kits

As long as you’re armed with the right tools, tinting your eyebrows at home is a lot easier than you might think. Although you can buy eyebrow tinting products separately, buying an all-in-one kit is the most convenient option. The best eyebrow tinting kits usually come with dye, developer, an applicator tool, and a mixing bowl (note, though, that developers aren’t necessary if you’re going the henna route). But even with the right tools, you need to know what you’re doing. So, to learn more about DIY brow tinting, The Zoe Report spoke to a few master beauticians to get their top tips.

Firstly, what color should I choose? “The shade depends entirely on each client’s preferences,” cosmetologist Aneta Zuraw tells The Zoe Report. “I always suggest [choose a shade] as close to your base color as possible.” Esthetician Sarah Akram’s rule of thumb for eyebrow tinting is, “If you have lighter hair, tint your brows one shade darker. If you have dark hair, use a tint that is a shade lighter. start light. Remember, you can always go back and make them darker if needed.”

For best results, esthetician Darya Rzaca, who co-owns Atelier Beauté with Zuraw, says, “We recommend cleansing and exfoliating your skin twice before coloring. Exfoliation is key to [a] no “gap” effect.” Choose an exfoliant without active ingredients like AHAs or BHAs, she adds. Akram instructs The Zoe Report to prep the area around your brows with a coat of petroleum jelly to avoid staining your skin, then wipe the tint first with a dry cotton ball and then a damp one when you’re done. Gray hair can be tricky, Rzaca warns, so it might be worth seeing a professional. Or, for gray brow hairs that seem resistant to applying dye, “first use a developer, remove it, then apply your tint,” suggests Akram (then shape as desired).

Keep scrolling for three of the most user-friendly eyebrow tinting kits you can get on Amazon, plus more expert tips.

1. The kit approved by beauticians

Rzaca and Zuraw say that Refectocil is “one of the best products” for tinting eyebrows and one that they highly recommend. This kit includes a tube of the brand’s dye and a bottle of developer, as well as a mixing bowl and applicator brush.

Regarding the application of the dye, Aneta explains that the intensity of the hue depends on the ratio of tint to oxidizer. “You can use more oxidizer for a lighter shade of that particular color. Or the other way around. You can also leave the mixture longer or shorter on your brows to get the intensity of the color to your liking.” Just make sure you follow the directions on your tint closely and don’t use any of these kits on for longer than recommended your hair. Finally, it’s important to always do a patch test before using any type of dye, as some people can have serious allergic reactions to the ingredients in the formula.

2. The Fan Favorites Kit

This eyebrow tinting kit conveniently comes with four custom-sized tint capsules that you mix with the developer when you’re ready to use it, meaning you’ll have four uses of the product that won’t dry out between uses. A fan favorite on Amazon with over 7,000 five-star ratings and reviews, the kit comes with a mixing bowl and four applicator sticks in addition to the developer and color capsules.

Available shades: natural black, dark brown, medium brown, light brown

3. The best henna tint kit

There’s a lot to like about this henna tint kit, which is a lovely alternative to coloring for those looking for a more natural option. For starters, each box offers 25 to 30 uses, so it’s a fantastic bang for your buck. And since it’s an all-natural, ammonia-free color, you can try it and, if you like, reapply the henna for a darker tint without fear of overdoing it. It’s also easy to work with – just mix the dry henna powder with a few drops of water to get the right consistency, apply with a fine brush or spoolie, and your brows will stay tinted for up to six weeks.

Bonus: This peel-off brow tinting gel

While not a permanent (or even semi-permanent) color, Etude House’s brow tinting gel is actually quite satisfying and easy to use. Apply a thick layer of the gel to your browbones and let it dry for at least two hours, or longer if you want more color. Once your time is up, the product will be completely dry and you can slowly and carefully peel it off. The result: intense, full brows.

This gel is made with ingredients like moisturizing panthenol and soothing green tea extract, so you’ll get some skincare benefits in addition to your color. Since it’s a temporary tint, it’s a great way to try tinting before diving into the world of permanent dyes.

“Castor oil is great for promoting hair growth,” Akram says of other ways to improve the look of your eyebrows. This value-for-money kit includes USDA organic, cold-pressed castor oil along with a mascara wand, brow brush, liner brush, and bottle and plunger, making product application easy and mess-free. Castor oil, which has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and moisturizing properties, is also great for lashes and scalp.

Brow growth serums can also be helpful if you find you’re losing brow hair, Akram adds, and for optimal brow fullness, be gentle with your brows and avoid rubbing or yanking the brows.
