On May 11th, an official tweet was published detailing a new security measure being introduced by Mihoyo for Genshin Impact. This new measure requires players to associate an email with their miHoYo account, adding an extra layer of security. If players wish to unlink their email accounts, they must do so before May 17th, as the option will no longer be available after that date. It seems that players who disconnected their accounts before this date can continue playing with an unlinked email, but miHoYo recommends players to link it for extra security.

What if I played Genshin on both?

There is some bad news for those who have already made progress on PlayStation and another device – you cannot link the two active accounts. You basically have to pick one or the other, or give up the idea of ​​linking altogether. Here is MiHoYo’s official explanation: “The reason is that your account for PSN automatically registers a miHoYo account after you log into Genshin Impact. Therefore, it cannot be linked to an email address that is already linked to another miHoYo account.”

Depending on what system you’ve started on, you’ll need to follow different steps if you want to enable cross-platform play. Hoyoverse official guide is a bit convoluted so I will make it as easy to understand as possible.

If this is your first time playing on mobile or PC, simply use the same Hoyoverse account you signed up with to play between those two platforms. If you want to add a PlayStation to the mix, things get a little more complicated.

If you started on another platform and want to continue playing on PlayStation, you will need to launch the game on PlayStation and link your account directly when the popup appears. You cannot link a Hoyoverse account to a PSN account once progress has been made in Genshin Impact.

This popup only appears when you launch the game on PlayStation for the first time, as the game creates a new Hoyoverse account when you actually start playing.

There is no way to unlink accounts yet. Deleting the game will not unlink your account. Of course, you can always create a new PSN account.

If you’ve already started playing on PlayStation, you’ll need to associate that PSN with a new email address that isn’t used for a Hoyoverse account in the in-game User Center settings. It’s a weird job, but from there, just log in to other platforms with this new Hoyoverse account.
