This post was written in the midst of our world experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it covers topics specific to the time, its insights and scriptures can always be appreciated.

It is not difficult for most parents to understand why Enoch might have changed his walk with God after the birth of his first child.

Parenthood is incredibly humbling; As young moms writing this article, we have connected over toddler tantrums, marital debacle, and fears about the future as we try to manage the responsibilities of raising little people.

But you don’t have to be a new parent to feel the need to change your walk with God. So will the unrelenting difficulties we have experienced this year as we try to figure out how to have faith in the face of brutal crisis after brutal crisis. Or perhaps other stressors or increased responsibilities in your life have caused you to realize that you need to seek God in a new way.

Enoch’s story inspires me that it is possible to change my walk with God. Enoch’s relationship with God is not mentioned at all prior to the birth of Methuselah. But afterward, Enoch became a compelling example of how to walk faithfully with God for the rest of his life (Hebrews 11:5).

The idea of ​​changing my path with God can feel daunting. I became a Christian as a teenager and quickly learned to clean up my behavior and do the things that “good Christians” do. I committed to attending every church service and made sure to read the Bible and pray daily.

But to this day, I struggle to “walk faithfully with God,” and I often lack the qualities that come with being close to Him:

I don’t know where to start, so sometimes it’s easier not to start at all. But instead of being overwhelmed and never changing, I need to put one foot in front of the other and start taking steps to change and transform my walk with God.

If, like me, you feel that God is calling you to a transformative moment in your relationship with Him, here are five simple ways we can start changing our walk with God.

Believe in the God of transformative moments

They answered, “So what shall we do if we want to do God’s work?” [29] Jesus replied, “The work you can do for God begins with your believing on him whom he has sent.” John 6:28-29 TPT

One of the reasons it seems daunting to change my walk with God is that I don’t really believe it can change. I think I’ve been too stuck, too scared, for too long.

Life’s storms have a way of revealing what we are made of (Luke 6:46-49), and I have found that the ongoing pandemic has revealed much about my walk with God. I’ve been overcome by anxiety more times than I’d like to admit, and I rely on my friends and husband to comfort me far more than I do on God.

When I recently sat down to think about how I could change my walk with God, I immediately started thinking of tactics I could try. I could read more chapters of the Bible. I could fast. I could schedule extra time for prayer each day. I could read any of the spiritual books I’ve thought of.

“The first step to changing your path with God is believing that God can change you.”

And while all of these things are good, I realized that they’re not going to work because I don’t really believe I can change. I think my insecurities are too deep, my disbelief too strong and my fear too great for me to change. So any tactic I try will be superficial and short-lived.

John 6 tells us that the work that God wants us to do begins with faith. So the first step to changing your walk with God is to believe that God can change you.

God specializes in transformative moments; There are too many in the Bible to list.

Be honest about your beliefs

Because of the privilege and authority that God has given me, I offer each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Evaluate yourself honestly and measure yourself against the faith that God has given us. Romans 12:3 NLT

I recently had a conversation with my husband about how I felt I was growing in my relationship with God. I told him that I was less distracted when reading the Bible, I took more prayer walks, and I was more honest with God in my prayers. I really felt like I was doing well in my relationship with God.

Then a few days later I was talking to some friends about what makes a relationship with God transformative. They shared scriptures and talked about how our relationship with God should transform us and make us think more about helping others and changing the world.

I found that although my walk in behavior with God grew, my faith in God and my heart for other people did not change.

My change was rule-based (“I walk more”) and emotional (“I feel like I’m fine”) rather than transformative. To really change, I have to be willing to be honest with myself about my belief in God.

I’ll know if I’m actually changing my behavior or just changing it by looking more into how it seems to me than being honest about how much faith I really have. If I don’t want to be honest, then I go my way with God.

For this reason, the scripture in Romans 12 says that we must not judge ourselves by our behavior, but by an honest assessment of how much faith we really have.

My change was rule-based and emotional rather than transformative. To really change, I have to be willing to be honest with myself about my belief in God.

We can evaluate our faith by looking at Hebrews 11:6 and asking ourselves if we have this kind of faith in God:

How do I evaluate myself and my relationship with God? Through my beliefs or through behavior, emotions or what people think of me?

Change the way you deal with guilt

Guilt is one of my least favorite subjects. I find myself tensing up physically when I even say the word. But from what I see in the Bible, dealing closely with God involves dealing with guilt:

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is hidden from view! [2] Yes, what joy for those whose records the Lord has cleared from guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! [3] When I refused to confess my sin, my body atrophied and I groaned all day. [4] Your disciplined hand was upon me day and night. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. [5] Finally I confessed all my sins to you and stopped hiding my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone [6] Therefore let all the righteous pray to you while there is still time, that they may not be drowned in the floods of judgment. [7] For you are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Psalm 32:1-7 NLT

One of the biggest weaknesses in my walk with God is that I hate talking about anything that makes me feel guilty. I am so afraid of looking bad in other people’s eyes that I would rather cover up or apologize for my sins than admit them willingly.

Even when I do share my sins, I’m more likely to grit my teeth and prepare for a painful experience than a liberating conversation that leads me to deeper intimacy with God and gratitude for God’s forgiveness.

Sin creates distance and division in our relationship with God (Isaiah 59:1-2), and each of us as human beings has a sinful nature with sinful desires and tendencies (Romans 3:23, Galatians 5:19-21). So you can either humbly admit your sins and ask for forgiveness, or you can live your life with constant guilt.

God wants us to humbly confess our sins so that we may experience His undeserved forgiveness and deliverance from the heavy burden of our guilt.

My father is someone I can count on to help me when I’m in trouble. I remember once getting lost in San Francisco driving home with no GPS to guide me or a clue how to read the map that was in my car.

So I went to my first instinct: call my dad. I gave him what little information I had about my location; He figured out the road and soon had me on my way home with road directions. I knew I could trust my father to help me.

This Scripture tells me to pray at every opportunity and not give up. And it directs me to pray for others – because our friends and the world around us need help too.

When I was in grad school at Cal State East Bay, I was part of a school psychology program with a total of 16 students in my cohort. Of these 16 students, one of the girls in the program stood out to me.

We are meant to be that friend to other people. Our relationship with God is not meant to remain for ourselves, but to inspire and share with the people in our lives. Not what we say, but how we live helps others and shows them who God is.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the Bible teaches us that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Then 2 Corinthians 5:20 tells us, “So we are ambassadors of Christ……”. These verses teach that every Christian is a messenger for Christ. The question is not whether you, as a Christian, are an ambassador for Christ, but how effective you are as an ambassador for Christ.

As market ambassadors for Christ, we need to be aware of the challenges of this endeavor. We have an enemy who doesn’t want that. We have our own flesh that often gets in our way. And we have the day-to-day stresses of life that prevent us from focusing on doing things God’s way.

So what should we do?

There is no more important element in our life in Christ than a daily, intimate walk with Him. It is practically impossible to live this Christian life without submitting fully to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is critical that we prepare for our day to have a chance to reflect Christ in our interactions with people.

Here are some practical ways to begin each day in intimacy with Christ.

1. Start each day with prayer. Spend time praising God and thanking Him for everything He has given you.

2. Give yourself a quiet time every day. Set aside some time each day to spend with God. By starting your day with God, you can ask God to guide you in every thought, action, and deed throughout the day. To get started, you might consider the 7/7 approach. Spend 7 minutes with God every 7 days of the week. Hopefully you’ll set aside extra time for your quiet time after trying the 7/7 method.

3. Study God’s Word daily. God left us the manual for life, the Bible. One of the most effective ways to understand God’s plan for our lives and gain His perspective and wisdom is to study His Word every day. Again, start with a manageable amount of time and see what happens. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after his righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

Some people leave the church because they have been mistreated by someone who should have treated them with the same grace and love that Jesus showed. Some people are seduced by lies. We know that physical touch is very personal. Touch connects one person to another person in many ways. We hug, kiss, shake and hold hands, bump fists and elbows and give high fives. These touches convey a sense of belonging and connection from one person to another.

There are numerous places in the New Testament where we see Jesus touching people, especially when he healed many who were sick and handicapped.

In Luke 5:12-14 we find the man with a skin disease coming to Jesus to be healed. He said to Jesus, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched his hand and said, “I will. Be clean.” Immediately the skin disease left the man.

In the same chapter of Luke we find that Jesus not only heals a physically disabled person but also brings about spiritual healing.

Jesus’ touches in our lives can also bring about both types of healing. When he becomes master of our lives, he can touch our beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and our hidden prejudices. When Jesus touches us, he can make us see other people as people of worth, people he created and died for, and people we should love as he loves. Jesus can touch both our eyes and our souls.

At the onset of public school segregation, a little white girl went to her newly integrated school in first grade for the first day of school. When she got home that afternoon, her mother asked how it went.

The little girl replied that a black girl was sitting next to her. Her mother said, “Well, what happened?” The girl proudly said, “We were both so scared we held hands all day!” The healing touch of Jesus flowing from one person to another.

Bob Berghaus, sports editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times, recently wrote a compelling article that gave me a lot to think about.

It was April 18, 1946, and Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in an all-white major league baseball game, was making his first appearance for the Montreal Royals, the Brooklyn Dodgers’ entry into the International League. One of Robinson’s new teammates was a man named George Shuba, a reserve outfielder.

Berghaus writes, “Robinson hit a three-run homer in the first inning of his first game with the Royals. He finished third and was greeted by Shuba, who wore a big smile as he shook hands with Robinson. What makes the photo and handshake so sad is what didn’t happen that day. It is common for teammates who are on base when a home run is hit to wait at the plate to congratulate the batsman. This didn’t happen for Robinson, so Shuba, watching from the circle on deck, stepped forward and shook Robinson’s hand. Shuba said, “It was the right thing.”

Jesus had something to say about reconciliation and forgiveness at Matthew 5:23, 24: “Therefore, if you are bringing your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift at the altar and go. Make things right with your brother or sister first, and then come back and offer your gift.”

Discrimination and prejudice in any form towards our brothers and sisters can be healed through the touch of Jesus as he demands reconciliation and forgiveness. Finally, God offers this to each of us in the great example of the return of the prodigal son. The father, looking out for us, his children, runs towards us and gives us a big hug and a kiss along with the reconciliation.

What better way to be like Jesus than to embrace our brothers and sisters in love and forgiveness? Whether it’s a handshake like George Shuba or a handshake like the little girls, we can spread the touch of Jesus in a world that so desperately needs reconciliation.

Walk in the Spirit, Paul tells believers in Galatians 5:16. Secure. Easier said than done.

How do I know when my actions are Spirit driven and when they are not? We humans are perfectly capable of persuading ourselves that we live by the Spirit when we’re not even close to it.

The life of the Spirit, in contrast to the life of the sinful nature, has these characteristics: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). Years ago I made it my goal to live by these truths because I thought that was a very good list of qualities for every individual to pursue. What I didn’t realize at the time was that each of these qualities had a deep meaning that I had yet to discover.

Two ways to know you are walking in the Spirit

I certainly haven’t figured it all out, but here are two things that I have found helpful in my desire to live the Spirit.

1. The Spirit of God will always agree with the Word of God.

Study the Word of God. It is true, immutable, its applicability is infinite, and it is fascinating. For example, the word love has taken on new meaning over the years as I have read the Bible. We speak of loving our clothes, our vacations, our families, and God. These are all different meanings of the word love, of course, but none of them competes with the love of God.

God loves us loyally, unconditionally, and perfectly, and the only way to understand the depths of his love is to read his word and discover how he loved those who came before us and how he loved us, by sending Jesus. We can rationalize much by appealing to love, but God’s love is the only true measure of love.

God’s love is gracious, merciful and very patient. There were times when I wanted to blame someone to let them know what I really think and I justified it by saying what they did just wasn’t right. The individual may have been wrong and there may have been a time for a wise confrontation, but certainly not when I was so angry. When I acted in anger, it was clearly not the Holy Spirit guiding me; it was my sinful nature all along. After a few incidents of this nature, I learned the value of Ephesians 4:26, 29: “Be angry and do not sin… Let no corrupting speech come out of your mouth.”

Reading the Bible is the best way I know to compare what I call love with the love of God. The Spirit of God will never cause you to do anything against the Word of God.

2. The Spirit of God will lead you to freedom.

Years ago I attended a retreat on the Fruit of the Spirit. We all showed ourselves alert and ready to be inspired by the Word of God. There we learned of God’s true and unconditional love, moved to joy under all circumstances, rested in peace by faith, challenged one another to show kindness, set our eyes on good, inspired one another to be faithful, and pondered how we could be gentler.

It was emotionally draining. As we looked at what each fruit of the Spirit actually meant, we felt increasingly discouraged. How could we ever live as those nine little words ask of us? An oppressive feeling came over the group.

Luckily, God used that moment to teach us to think backwards.

A friend of mine spoke about the ultimate fruit of self-control. She said that she naturally has very little self-control and likely never will have much of it. She identified several areas where she struggled to show control.

Quite simply, she reminded us that no one can show these fruits of the Spirit on their own. We may have an inclination or ability in one or two areas that can pass as real spirit-filled fruit. But if we do it ourselves, then by definition it is not a fruit of the Spirit. The more we try to be more loving, joyful, or peaceful on our own, the more we defeat the only hope we have in the spirit.

These nine qualities are fruits of the spirit, not fruits of our own determination or tenacity.

The fog of failure in the room lifted noticeably as we all recognized with renewed appreciation the freedom available to us in Jesus Christ. Freedom from trying so hard and always falling short. Freedom from the burden of wanting to be something we are not. Freedom from the judgment that comes upon us when we fail.

How our work and the work of the Spirit fit together

This raises another question: Does wanting to live by these attributes and have my thoughts upon them daily mean trying to take over the mind?

No it is not. My desire to live a Spirit-filled life is evidence that the Spirit lives within me (Romans 8:5). Every believer has the Holy Spirit of Jesus and the freedom to live according to His power and influence. The inevitable tension, however, arises from turning our thoughts to the Spirit while at the same time inhabiting a damaged nature and living in a sinful world. This is a tension we will experience until we get to heaven.

I wonder if we’re not giving enough credit to the Holy Spirit within us. We have the Holy Spirit of God, so why do we so often doubt that he is our guide? I’ve looked through all the verses in the New Testament that contain the word “spirit” and the warning that came to my mind was don’t quench the spirit, don’t ignore it. If we listen to the Spirit in freedom, tested by our knowledge of the Bible, then we should be able to trust the Spirit to guide us.

Without a doubt we will fail. Paul describes such a failure in Romans 7, and if he struggled with it, surely we will too. But Romans 7 comes right before the beautiful passage of Romans 8 that says we will not be judged and speaks of the power of the Spirit in our lives. If God is for us, who can be against us?

Jonathan Edwards put it this way about God’s active and effective grace in our lives:

[We] are not just passive, nor does God do some and we do the rest, but God does everything and we do everything. God creates everything and we do everything. For that is what He produces, our own deeds. God is the only correct originator and source; we’re just the right actors. We are totally passive and totally active in different ways. (Writings on the Trinity, Grace, and Faith, in The Works of Jonathan Edwards)

As we focus on the Spirit, knowing the Word of God, learning from our mistakes and successes, and turning to God’s grace, we come closer to walking with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

The enemy doesn’t care if we’re Christians, for many of us we’ve already made that choice, but he cares if we’re an effective Christian. He wants to burden us with so many meaningless struggles that we are spiritually drained and have little to no impact on the places that really matter to the heart of God. God has given us an incredibly powerful gift in prayer, and it is important that we use it to recognize the battles we must fight and ask for divine power in war.

2. Let’s practice studying the scriptures

In so many ways we study to gain knowledge when it comes to our careers, politics, our health, etc. And that’s all well and good, but why don’t we hunger for the God-inspired words of Scripture more than anything else? If we want to grow, if we want to love our families and lead them well, we must study God’s message to us as if our lives really depend on it, and practice every day to implement it in every word and decision.

3. Worship for our realities to change

The Bible uses the words “worship God” over 8,000 times. Romans 12:1 says: “Therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God I call upon you to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God; this is your spiritual worship.” Worship is a way of offering ourselves up as a living sacrifice to our Creator and welcoming the Holy Spirit to change us and our perspective. There are so many times when we feel like God is distant from a situation or from our lives as a whole, but then we have that moment of uninterrupted, focused worship and He feels as close as the air we are to breathe. At this moment we are as close to heaven as we can be on earth, and we begin to focus on the realities of eternity rather than the realities of this world.

If we don’t apply these steps, sin works its way into the cracks of our lives and the enemy manifests in every aspect, breaking us down from within. May we capture our sin and focus on aligning ourselves with Christ as never before.

“And my speech and my preaching was not in the alluring words of human wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (1 Corinthians 2:4).

The word POWER as translated in the New Testament comes from the Greek words: “exousia” and “dynamis”. Exousia refers to authoritative power or privileged right. While “dynamis” refers to miraculous power. From the opening text, the apostle Paul says by the Spirit that his speech and preaching was not with alluring words of human wisdom; but in demonstration of spirit and power.

In other words, he is saying that Christianity is not just about eloquence and theological jargon – as most people have reduced it. Rather, it is primarily about demonstrating the power of God. In another verse he says, “For the kingdom of God is not in words, but in power” – 1 Corinthians 4:20.

So power is a key feature of the kingdom of God. Without the demonstration of God’s power, Christianity is reduced to a mere religion. And that is why God has made His power abundantly available to everyone who believes in Christ Jesus. God has given every believer authority (exousia – Luke 10:19) and miracle-working power (dynamis – Acts 1:8) in Christ Jesus. But despite this abundant provision of God’s power to His children, only a very small handful of believers know and walk in that divine power.

The majority of believers around the world do not have a good understanding of this divine power within, much less walk in it. And as such, they leave a great loophole for the devil and nature to take undue advantage of. So in this article we will learn from the Scriptures about divine power and how we can begin to enter or demonstrate that divine power in our daily lives.

The Purpose of Divine Power

How to receive divine power

From a biblical perspective, there are basically two steps to getting divine power into our lives. These are:

Salvation by faith: “But to all who received him he gave power to become sons of God, even to those who believe on his name.” The most important and important way to receive the power of God in your life is through salvation. By accepting the Lord Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and personal Savior by faith.

The scripture above says that so many who received him (Jesus) gave them power to become sons of God. So anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior already has the power of God (Exousia and Dynamis) at work in their lives.

The Baptism of the Holy Ghost: “But ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost cometh upon you; and ye shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the ends of the earth.” When we accept Jesus as our Lord and personal Savior, we receive the authoritative power of God as well as the wondrous power of God within us.

But this power that comes to us at salvation is fully expressed in our lives when we receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

How to walk in divine power

Listed below are the biblical keys to walking in divine power. Both the authoritative and wondrous power of God.

Faith: A lifestyle of faith is the most important way to walk in divine power (Mark 9:23). We demonstrate the power of God in our lives when we walk in faith. The Word of God: We walk in divine power by reading, meditating, and confessing God’s Word in faith (Romans 1:16, Hebrews 4:12). Communion with the Holy Spirit: We walk in divine power as we continually surrender ourselves to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Knowledge: Revealed knowledge of God’s Word enables us to walk effectively in divine power. The more light of God’s Word you have in your spirit, the more divine power you walk within (Ephesians 1:17-20).

We have seen the biblical keys of change in the divine power of God within us. Both the authoritative and the wondrous power. But the starting point of walking in divine power is being born again by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He taught, healed and loved all who came to him. As we strive to treat others as Jesus did, we learn more about Him and become more like Him.

Getting closer to God is a phrase I hear a lot. As a believer, one may feel that one is no longer as close to God as one was before.

James 4:8-10, NKJV, says, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Clean your hands, you sinner; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter turn to sorrow and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”

This Bible verse tells us that as we draw near to God, he will draw near to us. The catch is that we cannot walk in sin and be close to God. He wants us to be pure in heart and mind and to be humble.

If you feel you are not close to God right now, you are not alone. I also experience this feeling. The good news is that the Bible tells us how to draw closer to God. Today I will show you how to get closer to God.

What does it mean to draw near to God?

Getting closer to God means you want to be in a close relationship with God. Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). It is the only way to draw near to God. God sent Jesus to be the mediator between God and man.

Choosing to make Jesus your personal Lord and Savior means you are committing your life to Him. We must have faith and know that we can draw closer to God through Jesus.

How to approach God

There are certain ways to get closer to God. I felt far from God several times during my walk, so I will share what helped me to get close to Him.

1. Receiving Jesus

Accepting Jesus into your life is the first step in drawing closer to the Lord. Without Jesus there is no access to God. The Bible tells us that God sent his only son to prepare a way for us.

“Jesus replied, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NIV

This verse means that one has to go through Jesus to get to God. If you want to receive the salvation that is available through Jesus Christ, put your faith in Him (Acts 16:31), repent of your sins, and trust fully in His death as a sacrifice for your sins. He promises to send His Holy Spirit to those who receive Him.

Works will not save you (Eph. 2:8-9). Baptism is an important step in identifying with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. It shows dying and being buried with Christ. No baptism is required for salvation. The only thing required for salvation is faith in Jesus Christ.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved” Acts 16:31 ESV

Once you accept Jesus, you have access to draw closer to God. His Holy Spirit will lead you into God’s truth and convict you of your sin. When you repent of your sins, you can walk and grow with Jesus.

2. Study the Bible

Studying the Bible is essential if you want to draw closer to God. It is impossible to know our Creator if we do not know about Him.

2 Timothy 3:16, ESV, says, “All Scripture is breathed out of God, and useful for teaching, for correction, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

The Bible contains everything we need to know to navigate through life. I encourage you to get a good study Bible so you can study the Scriptures. There are Bible apps and free online Bible studies that can help you expand your knowledge. If you want to study a specific topic, you can benefit from a reading plan.

Make studying the Bible a priority and you will draw closer to the Lord.

3. Pray

Prayer is the way we communicate with God. Praying through Jesus will put you in communication with God. You can pray all day and ask as many questions as you like.

“Therefore I tell you what you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 NIV

Prayer does not have to be performed in any particular way. I try to set aside a specific time for prayer in a quiet environment because I want to hear from God. When there’s too much going on, I get distracted easily.

I also pray while doing the dishes, folding laundry, making dinner, etc. There is no right way to pray. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking you need to pray a certain way.

God is omnipresent. He is with you all the time and is available whenever you call him. Include Him in your life and you will grow in a closer relationship.

4. Worship and praise him

We are privileged to praise and worship God. God is our Creator and everything we have comes from Him. Acknowledging that a relationship with Jesus is personal allows us to see how powerful our God is.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it.” Psalm 24:1, NKJV

We should worship and praise God all the time. He is always good (Psalm 100:5) and worthy of our praise. One of my favorite ways of worshiping and praising him is through music.

Music just touches my soul and gets me deep in worship. I even find myself memorizing scriptures while listening to music.

Music will bring you closer to God. He created music and loves to hear its joyful sound (Psalm 98:4-6).

5. Trust him

When I decided to accept Jesus into my life, I found it difficult to trust Him. Only when I got closer to God could I rest in Him.

The Bible teaches that we must trust the Lord with all our hearts. If we really believe that he loves us and will do everything for our good, we will be able to trust him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; submit to him in all your ways,

and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

You must examine your heart and ask God to reveal the truth about who you trust. I did this and found myself trusting myself.

Trusting yourself or anyone other than Jesus is a problem. The Lord is the only one who can make your paths straight. Your own flesh will make you stumble.

Learn to trust the Lord and know that you don’t have to understand everything. When you are close to God, you will trust that His understanding is sufficient. He works everything for our good (Romans 8:28) and knows what is best for us.

6. Have faith

To have faith we must know who God says we are. The Bible tells us that we have a goal (Jeremiah 29:11). He has plans for us and we have to trust that his plans are for the best of us.

If we don’t have faith, we risk falling into fear. Choosing faith over fear requires daily discipline. We must choose faith or we will walk down a dark empty road.

Faith brings you close to God because you believe what He says. Choosing to make him master of your life means you must bend your will to his. In my life he has proven again and again that his ways are better than mine. He always cares.

7. Get involved

As I made the decision to accept Christ, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to get involved. I took the first step by attending a Bible study at my church.

I was so blessed by the ladies. It was my very first Bible study for women by Beth Moore. My growth in Christ grew through the fellowship of other women.

There are so many ways to get involved outside of Bible study groups. There are many ways to bless people and show them the love of Christ.

Personally, I like Bible study groups, but I know they’re not for everyone. Pray about how you can get involved. The Lord may urge you to start a Christian blog, a Christian podcast, or even a Christian YouTube channel. These are all great ways to share what God has done in your life.

Getting involved will help you draw closer to God by being a living testimony of His faithfulness.

I have worked in the logistics industry for many years. It wasn’t something I loved, but I was really good at it. In addition, the nature of the logistics business kind of drove me insane.

It wasn’t uncommon for me to wake up at 2am, work a little to solve an emergency, go back to bed, and then go to work to solve other emergencies.

I knew I didn’t want to spend the rest of my career here. But every time I tried to get out, I felt like God was closing the door. He didn’t want me to go. I wasn’t freed to move on to something else.

After about a year and a half at a certain company, I had a shocking conversation with one of my team members. She struggled a lot with God.

She made it pretty obvious for everyone. In fact, she always said she didn’t believe in God.

One day I asked her why she didn’t believe. She told me a story about her son-in-law and how he killed her grandson years ago.

She continued tearfully, “…there can’t possibly be a God who would allow such a thing.”

We spoke one on one for about two hours and her tears soon turned to joy as she recommitted her life to the Lord. Why did she do that? What happened during this two-hour conversation?

Well, she had come to the conclusion that while it might not all make sense to us, God still has a plan, and He wants us to believe in that plan. Okay, there was a lot more in there.

You need to know that God has a reason and a purpose for everything in your life.

Shortly after this conversation the craziest thing happened, I went back to my office and heard my phone ring.

It was a team member who used to work for me who told me that there was a company that wanted to hire me. He asked me if I had a resume to send to him. So I did, and guess what… I got hired in just a few days.

Random coincidence, I’m sure! 🙂

Not hardly! I believe with all my heart that God kept me with the previous organization so that one day I would have this conversation.

Of course, while I was working there, other things happened, good and bad, but I know that God kept me there for that very reason.

God loves his children so much that he is perfectly fine with keeping me in an industry I didn’t like so I would have a conversation that would bring one of his children back to him.

With that perspective, catching yourself whining makes you feel kind of silly. And the moment after I spoke to her, He moved me on.

So here are five ways to make sure you’re doing your work for the Lord.

1. Understand that this is God’s story…not ours.

If you think this is your story, you couldn’t be further from the truth. This is God’s story and He allowed us to be a part of it.

If He wants to use you in a situation so that He can change the life of one of His children, He can do just that.

That doesn’t mean you can’t fight Him because of it.

That doesn’t mean you can’t run away.

But if you don’t feel liberated from a job, there must be a greater reason God put you there in the first place.

Ask God to accomplish whatever He has in mind for you.

2. God has a plan for you…regardless of your surroundings.

It’s difficult to work with people who don’t have a lot of integrity. It is difficult to work with people who create a bad working atmosphere.

Perhaps there is gossip or insidiousness. You must understand that no matter what is going on in the lives of others, God still has a plan for you.

Here is Jeremiah 29:11 in the message:

“I know what I’m doing. I have everything planned – plans to take care of you, plans not to let you down, plans to give you the future you hope for.”

So if that’s true and you’re in a less than ideal work environment, that doesn’t mean you stop working hard for God.

Just because other people are like that doesn’t mean you screw yourself up in the process and stop doing a great job.

3. Don’t bring yourself down to the level of others.

When the people around you aren’t working their hardest, it can wear you down. When your work ethic plummets to the level of those around you, you know what?

They make themselves considerably less marketable. I want you to focus on being marketable. That means making yourself even more valuable than going to another company.

Ask the question, “How can I do better in situations where most people don’t care?”.

If you focus on making yourself more marketable for other companies, when the time is right, not only will God advance you, but you could even get a better position in your current organization.

4. Focus on how you can bless those around you.

How can you be a witness to those around you?

When people fight or don’t give their all, when they gossip or are sneaky, you should still be a light. You should still witness them.

Not only a testimony to a better work ethic, but also to Christ. They should be able to see you walking in Christ even if you don’t say it with your mouth.

St. Francis of Assissi said: “Preach the Gospel at all times, if necessary, using words.”

5. Talk to God.

No matter where you are or what you are doing, prayer is literally a game changer. Prayer is not about how fancy you can be with your words.

If you use nine dollar words with God… He’s not impressed. In fact, he wants you to talk to him like children do. You are His child and prayer should never stop.

Pray without ceasing. That means you talk to God all day long. Just like you talk to everyone else around you.

So if you’re in a job or industry you don’t like, talk to God and let Him know how you’re feeling. He cares. Ask him what he wants from you.

Ask him what you should do. Ask him how you can get better at what you do. Ask Him for direction, guidance, and even ask Him to bless you. It does no harm.

But remember, don’t stop talking to him just because you’re not happy with your work.

The more time you spend with him, the more chance there is that he will let you in on the incredible plan he has you in.

How have you seen God working in your life and in the lives of others?

Wouldn’t it be perfect if God sent us a blueprint for each of our lives? What if, when we were born, we brought a manual that He wrote for us? A manual outlining what we should do to follow His plan for our lives?

Sometimes life can be so confusing and stressful that it can be difficult to understand what God wants for us in the midst of the noise of the world and the sounds of all the obligations that draw upon us. And the truth is, God knows what He wants for us, He’s in control of our plans. He designed the blueprint for our lives. He guides us and plants seeds in our hearts, and like a gardener He waters the seeds He plants in our hearts. God sees you, hears you and answers your prayers.

This life can be tough, but through trials the Lord makes us stronger. In times of trouble our faith can grow and multiply. Romans 5:3-5 shows us that suffering breeds endurance and character, which leads to hope that allows God to flow into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

While there is pressure from society to be successful and meet a certain standard that the world holds us to, we are able to achieve what He has through God and the calling He places in our lives want for our life.

Follow God’s plan for your life:

1. Be in prayer

One way to know that you are following God’s plan for your life is through prayer. Make time each day to dedicate yourself to the Lord and the plans He has for your life. As you surrender every area of ​​your life to God, He will bless it and be able to work on it abundantly.

2. Actively read the Word of God

It’s one thing to go to church on Sunday and hear the pastor preach, and another to make time each day to devote yourself to the Word of God. If you take just a few minutes each day to read the Word of God, you will better understand the calling God has placed in your life and it will enable you to live the life He has wishes for you to live better.

3. Follow the commands He puts on your heart

Allow God to guide your steps and trust the dreams He puts on your heart. Believe that He will qualify you, and when He has put a dream on your heart, know that He will help you achieve it, and that He will be glorified in the process.

4. Find a godly fellowship

It is much easier to follow God’s plans and act in a way that honors Him when you have friends around who will encourage you in your walk with the Lord. Seek out a congregation within the Church that will hold you accountable and be able to give you divine counsel.

5. Follow the truth

Know what is written in the Bible and follow the way it calls you to life. Live the commandments and consciously set an example of what a follower of Christ should be.

Being an adult in today’s modern times brings with it a number of challenges and pressures, but God qualifies us by our shortcomings just as He qualified Moses when he asked him to lead the Israelites and stand against Pharaoh place. If God has placed in your heart a desire to go back to school, He will qualify you for it. He will be there to walk by your side and help you in the areas of your own shortcomings.

Genesis 5 tells us that “Enoch walked with God.” Hebrews 11 says, “By faith Enoch pleased God” (verse 5). This is Enoch’s testimony of his life and journey as a godly man whose conduct and life were pleasing to Almighty God.

The word “walk” is the biblical term for “fellowship and obedience with God, leading to divine favor.” It refers to the way of life of a person who lives close to God. Enoch walked with God…a path of devotion and devotion. His walk lived up to his name…Enoch means “dedicated.”

The Bible tells us two things about this man’s walk that need to be noted. The kind of walk that Enoch showed is the same kind of walk that needs to be seen in your life and mine.

First, Enoch’s walk with God was visible. Enoch lived a life that showed the faith that was in his heart. His life of faith was a consistent, constant, and complete walk with God. The Bible says he walked with God for 300 years! Think about it! This is the kind of walk we all need today! Each of us needs a godly walk that lives each day and shows a visible Christian life of faith and obedience in fellowship with the Lord. This is the kind of life that pleases God!

Here is God’s plan for your life: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We are to show the world what we are by walking before them.

Second, Enoch’s walk with God was vocal. The Book of Jude tells us that Enoch was a prophet (verses 14-15). He preached about the coming judgment of God and the need for repentance. He spoke a harsh message… “to execute judgment on all.” All the wicked will be judged… none will escape. Who are the ungodly? All of them did not believe in the only Son of God (John 3:18).

Enoch’s faith enabled him to please God. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Enoch wanted that others know God, walk with him and miss the coming judgment.

As you and I walk with God, we must walk with the gospel on our lips. Yes, we must live the truth, but we must also tell others about Jesus and what He can do in their lives if they accept Him by faith (John 3:16). We are commanded to be active witnesses (Mark 16:15). We were equipped to bear witness (Acts 1:8); therefore let us be a visible, loud witness of the glory of the Lord! There is a dying world that needs to hear of our living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Let’s tell them while there’s still time.
