A wall decal, also known as a wall sticker, wall decal, or wall vinyl, is a vinyl sticker applied to a wall or other smooth surface for decorative and informational purposes. Types and Sizes[edit]
Decals can range from simple small wall borders and cutouts to more complex murals covering entire walls. They can contain words, images and designs. Vinyl wall decals come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be as small or as large as necessary. Normal wall tattoos are usually between 30 cm x 50 cm and 60 cm x 100 cm. Larger decals may be 100cm x 100cm or larger.
Most vinyl decals are not reusable, although some reusable types of vinyl are available. They use a different adhesive on the back which means they can be repositioned a few times before the adhesive wears off. Large vinyl decals can be very difficult to apply as they can tear, stretch and stick back on themselves. To avoid this, there are a few important steps that need to be taken to ensure your wall decal can be removed easily and cleanly without damaging your paintwork.
1. Heat the vinyl with a hair dryer
Set your hair dryer on low and run it gently back and forth over the decal. The heat from the blow dryer will weaken the adhesive on the vinyl. What to do if your decal damages the paint?
If you used good quality vinyl for your decal and removed it according to the steps above, it is extremely unlikely that your paint will be damaged in any way. However, it sometimes happens. If the wall decal ruins a section of paint on your wall, use a scraper to gently remove any paint stains or halo. If you don’t have a textured wall, you can use sandpaper as well.
