Redbox’s TV service includes commercials, and renting movies costs money, but there’s no monthly fee.

Redbox also offers Free On Demand which allows you to watch movies for free without a disc.

Known for its bright red kiosks in grocery and convenience stores, Redbox is a DVD and Blu-ray rental company that has grown into one of the largest film rental companies.

They recently branched out into online streaming with Redbox Free Live TV and Redbox On Demand.

Here’s everything you need to know about both services.

Redbox Free Live TV and Redbox On Demand, explained

Redbox Free Live TV, launched in February 2020, allows you to stream some live TV shows and programs. While you might find older favorites and syndicated shows, there are no big-name cable networks or broadcast news. It is available on smart TVs, streaming devices, smartphones and computers.

Viewers have dozens of shows and channels to choose from. You can watch standalone series like Forensic Files or Divorce Court that run episodes at different times. Or you can watch specific channels like ConTV or BNC that change their content throughout the day. However, since this is live TV, there’s no pause, rewind or fast-forward option, and there are ads.

Redbox On Demand allows users to rent, buy, or stream movies for a few dollars a movie. This service is only available on a computer and some smart TVs and streaming devices – the mobile app only allows you to reserve a physical disk from a Redbox kiosk or watch a movie you’ve already rented.

You can also watch Free On Demand on the Redbox mobile app and website. Unlike Redbox On Demand, which offers blockbuster films for a rental fee, Free On Demand offers films for free – although the selection does not include many well-known films and commercials are included.

How to watch Redbox Free Live TV on a desktop

How to watch Redbox On Demand or Free On Demand on a desktop

1. Using your web browser of choice, go to the Redbox On Demand website.

2. On-demand home page displays Redbox featured movies by category such as: B. Home Theater Launch, Trending Now, and New Movies to Rent. To browse movies by genre, hover over the ‘On Demand’ tab at the top of the screen – select ‘Genres’ from the drop down menu. Here you can search for traditional categories such as action, comedy and documentaries.

Free On Demand has its own line on the general On Demand page.

3. When you find a movie you want to rent, click on it. On the film’s Info page, you can click “Rent at the Newsstand” to reserve a physical copy to pick up at a nearby Redbox kiosk. How to watch Redbox Free Live TV or Free On Demand on the mobile app

1. Download the Redbox app from the Apple App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android.

2. Open the app, then tap “Watch Free” in the bottom right corner.

Customers in Mexico can now pay for Prime Video Channel subscriptions using their gift card balance.

You can buy Amazon gift cards in Mexico at outlets such as Oxxo, 7-Eleven, Circle K, Chedraui, Extra, Go Mart, La Comer, Farmacias Guadalajara, and Waldo’s. Alternatively, you can purchase digital gift cards through the Amazon.com.mx website.

The option to use the gift card will appear during the Prime membership or Prime Video Channel subscription sign-up process. If the balance on your card is greater than the cost of the plan, the balance will remain in your account and will be used to pay for subsequent periods. Remember that the credit can also be used to make purchases on Amazon.com.mx, so you need to make sure you have enough credit to cover the following months.

To access a free trial (if eligible), you must add a credit or debit card as a backup payment method. The free trial is not available if you only pay with gift cards.

During the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Company is taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of its customers.

“Knowing that movie nights are a valued activity, we are doing what we can to support our customers, employees and the communities we serve during this challenging time,” said Kate Brennan, Director of Marketing Communications at Redbox, opposite PEOPLE.

In response to the public health crisis, the company says it has briefed its field workers, who regularly maintain and replenish red kiosks, on proper cleaning protocols under CDC guidelines. The home page of their touchscreens also warns users to observe social distancing when queuing and wash their hands properly afterwards.

While washing hands is essential after using the machine, wearing gloves that can be discarded or washed afterwards is also a good precaution.

Redbox also outlined ways to disinfect the discs and cases before bringing them home. According to the company, a simple soap and water mixture is safe to use with a soft cloth — not paper towels.

CDC-recommended rubbing alcohol and alcohol-based wipes can also be used, and Redbox recommends wiping from the center out to avoid scratching the discs. Customers should not use abrasives, solvents or strong acidic cleaners.

As recent studies on the lifespan of COVID-19 on various surfaces have shown, the contagious virus can persist for up to three days on plastic in some cases.

“The films in our kiosks are like other items on a retailer’s shelf,” says Brennan. “As with any public surface we come into contact with, it is important to wash or sanitize our hands after every interaction and to maintain a safe distance of two meters between ourselves and others.”

However, for those who prefer to play it safe and avoid public spaces whenever possible, Redbox also offers its own digital platform for on-demand rentals and purchases, so the latest entertainment is a click away while it self-isolates.

What is currently probably the most popular movie distributor on the market has officially started accepting tap-to-pay at its kiosks.

Redbox added new card readers with NFC reading capabilities last May. The reason for this could be to prevent or limit the number of credit/debit card skimmers known to be installed at kiosks, petrol pumps and self-checkout in retail stores.

Reddit user noticed that not only is the NFC icon present on the card reader, but that it is now working.

Both Redbox’s website and app have yet to accept Apple Pay. However, it wouldn’t be too much if this continued to come as a surprise in the coming months as they are also adding it to all kiosks.
