For my review of the Bissell Spotclean I decided to clean my car mats as they looked a bit worn. I decided to bring them inside for my test as it was freezing and snowing outside.

The instructions on the Bissell shampoo give two dilution ratios, 74ml (fill to line 1 on the tank) or 148ml (fill to line 2 on the tank). They suggest that doubling the amount of concentrate doubles the cleaning power.

I went further with 74ml to see how strong the shampoo was at its minimum recommended ratio.

My car mat was covered with mud that had gotten down to the fibers. To be honest I wouldn’t say they were the most soiled mats I’ve seen, but realistically most people wouldn’t really let their mats get any worse than this, so I guess it’s a fair one test is.

I began by spraying the mats to soak them in the shampoo solution, holding the Spotclean’s nozzle away from the mat, as I didn’t want to move it just yet before allowing the fibers to be completely soaked and soaked.

After about 2 minutes of exposure I started my first pass on the right edge of the mat where most of the dirt seemed to be and I was honestly amazed at how well the machine worked. After one pass the fibers looked brand new and I could actually feel the dirty water being sucked up through the Spotclean’s handle, a very satisfying feeling I must say.

I didn’t have to make more than two passes over an area of ​​the mat to get the dirt off, but I did make several passes without pressing the solution release button so I could remove as much moisture from the mat as possible to help in the Dry season.

This is a pretty easy section for me. There are two areas of improvement that I think would take the Bissell from a very good machine to the best spot cleaner on the market.

First improvement is a longer hose. Bissell mentions that the new version of their Spot Cleaner (Pro) has a new and improved 1.5 meter hose, while that’s an improvement that still doesn’t feel long enough to me, it’s one of those occasions where length does matter lol.

So imagine using the spotclean outside on your car, the body of the machine is on the ground outside the vehicle, would you have enough hose to reach the ground and maneuver around it? I personally don’t think I would, which means I’d have to either lift the body into the car and hold it down or leave it on a seat while I clean. Neither situation would be ideal.

The second improvement would be more attachments.

The Spotclean Pro comes with an 8cm narrow head and a 15cm wide head, both with attached brushes and both work exactly the same. The narrow head seemed to work better for me as the suction felt more concentrated.

Now on the Bissell website they sell a range of different attachments for the spot clean, one of which is a power brush head which means more carpet movement and more cleaning power. Why can’t they include that in the box? I think this is a case of profiteering because I honestly believe that the Bissell leagues would be ahead of competing spot cleaners on the market if they gave customers the tools to get the best possible result.
