Since Wet & Forget is non-acidic, phosphate-free, and bleach-free, it won’t harm or discolor canvas and other outdoor fabrics. This gives you more freedom to choose which Wet & Forget Outdoor product fits your needs the best to clean dirty canvas awnings and other outdoor covered structures and surfaces.

Awning Maintenance Tips

Clean outdoor covered structures with Wet & Forget

By Wet & Forget

Covered outdoor structures such as gazebos, arbors, carports, awnings, and screened porches and patios are welcoming additions that add beauty and practicality to any home.

They often take the form of a fabric cover or a hard, durable material that provides shade on sunny days and a dry haven when it rains.

Because these structures are susceptible to moisture, green and black stains can easily appear on these surfaces. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to Wet & Forget clean your screened porch, patio, and covered outdoor space.

How do I clean the fixed privacy screens on my screened porch?

Wet & Forget Outdoor effortlessly cleans algae-covered porch and patio screens. Remove the green slime to get a better view of your garden.

Remove obstructing stains:

Use a soft broom to remove any large, clinging debris, such as leaves or pollen, from the outside of the screen. Apply Wet & Forget Outdoor on a dry day with no rain forecast. Let the screens dry. Rinse the screens a week later to mimic rain. Repeat the rinse 1-2 times a week.

How do I clean the floors and ceilings on my screened porch and patio?

Equally important areas to clean are the floors and ceilings of your screened porch.

Mold, mold stains and algae can develop due to water absorption. This often occurs when water forms in puddles and due to condensation.

If you notice green mold stains on your porch or patio floor, apply Wet & Forget Outdoor. Since there is no direct rain seen in this area, we recommend flushing the floor over the following week to begin gentle removal of unsightly mold. Repeat rinsing at least weekly to remove any remaining stains on the surface.

Additional cleaning tips for screened porches and patios:

Between screen cleanings, use a hand vacuum or a soft brush to remove dust and dirt to reduce build-up.

Wood decking will last longer if painted or sealed. By choosing a latex or oil based self-priming exterior paint, it will stand up to the elements longer.

How do I clean my gazebo, arbor, or other covered outdoor garden structure?

Whether your outdoor garden structure is wood, metal, or vinyl, they can develop mold and mildew on their posts, railings, floors, and the underside of the roof.

Due to the effects of moisture, these covered outdoor constructions can quickly take on a greenish to blackish tinge. Use Wet & Forget Outdoor to easily clean mold and mildew stained areas and restore your relaxation space to its former glory.

To clean a gazebo, arbor, or other garden structure with Wet & Forget:

First, use a soft broom to sweep or brush away coarse debris from the gazebo’s posts, railings, floor and underside of the roof. Apply Wet & Forget Outdoor to both indoor and outdoor areas on a dry day – make sure there is no rain forecast that day. Allow the treated areas to dry. Rinse the treated surface with your garden hose for the following week. Repeat the rinse weekly.

Additional cleaning tips for gazebos, arbors, or other garden structures:

Protect natural wood gazebos by applying a waterproof seal every two years. The seal helps to prevent moisture absorption and preserve the integrity of the wood.

Prevent annoying insects in spring and summer. Check the inside of the gazebo regularly for cobwebs and wasp nests and remove them accordingly.

How do I clean the roof and interior of my carport?

Get the most years out of your carport by taking care of it! Aside from checking the integrity of your structure, remember to also remove any organic growth to keep it nice and clean.

Use Wet & Forget Outdoor to clean carports stained with mold, mildew and algae. It will help restore your covered outdoor structure to its former glory.

How to apply Wet & Forget to your carport:

Remove your vehicle from the carport. Sweep dirt off the posts, railings and roof with a soft broom. Apply Wet & Forget Outdoor to the ceiling and interior of the carport. Then let the treated surfaces dry. A week later, rinse the treated inner surface with a hose on a jet setting. Repeat flushing weekly to mimic rain.

Additional Carport Cleaning Tips:

In the fall, remove leaf covers from the roof as the leaves absorb water. This helps reduce unnecessary weight that can weigh down the roof and structure of your carport.

If you live in an area that gets snow, also remove the accumulated snow to avoid future structural problems.

How do I clean the outside of my home’s eaves?

Finally you can clean the eaves of your house from the outside without having to climb a ladder! With the Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ Hose End, you can effortlessly clean the eaves of your home because the Xtreme Reach™ Hose End Nozzle can spray up to 30 feet.

Attaching the Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ hose end:

Simply attach the Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ hose end to your garden hose. Turn the black dial from “OFF” to the “WATER” setting and rinse off nearby plants and trees. From the “WATER” setting, turn the black dial counter-clockwise until you reach the “ON” setting and spray the eaves. Once you’ve saturated the eaves, turn the dial back to the “WATER” setting while repositioning the bottle to flush the plants and trees again. When finished, turn it clockwise to the “OFF” setting. Let the product dry. Come back next week to hose down the treated area. Repeat rinsing 1-2 times a week until growth is completely removed from the surface.

Because of the location of the eaves, they don’t see much rain; As such, you may need to aid the cleaning process with regular rinsing.

How do I clean my awnings?

Because Wet & Forget is acid-free, phosphate-free, and bleach-free, it will not damage or discolor canvas and other outdoor fabrics.

This gives you more freedom to choose the Wet & Forget Outdoor product that best suits your needs for cleaning soiled awnings and other outdoor covered structures and surfaces.

Here’s how to decide which one to use:

If you’re looking for a more precise application to treat the entire awning, use the Wet & Forget Concentrate.

If your awning is higher up your house, use the Wet & Forget Xtreme Reach™ hose end.

With Wet & Forget Outdoor, cleaning the underside of your awning is quick and easy:

Start by removing cobwebs and other debris from the underside of the awning with a long-handled broom. On a day with no rain forecast, spray your awning with one of the Wet & Forget Outdoor products. If you have a retractable awning, leave it open for at least 4 to 5 hours to dry. Rinse the awning a week later to mimic rain. Repeat rinsing weekly to remove more stubborn stains. Finally, enjoy the great outdoors under a clean, stain-free awning!

Additional care tip for awnings:

After successfully removing any green or black stains with Wet & Forget, apply a fabric sealer. The seal helps repel dirt and stains, keeping your awning looking and performing like new.

After cleaning your screened porch and various covered outdoor structures with Wet & Forget, you can enjoy your outdoor areas without eyesore.

Awning Maintenance Tips

A good quality cleaner can make cleaning easier and extend the life of your awning, so here is a guide to the best cleaning products for RV awnings.

Jennifer and I rarely use our awning if we are only staying in one place for one night. But when we stay longer, our awning becomes an extension of our living space. As we like to say, we have a small house, a big garden!

Proper care is essential and can extend the life of your awning. A big part of properly maintaining your RV awning is cleaning it.

The 5 best awning cleaners for RVs

We’ve narrowed it down to the top 5 so you can decide which is the best RV awning cleaner for you!

This cleaner got its name for a reason – it’s consistently listed as the best RV awning cleaner.

It is known for its ease of use. For regular cleaning, all you have to do is spray it on your awning and rinse off. No need for a scrub brush and elbow grease!

BEST awning cleaner quickly removes mould, mold stains and other stains or adhesions. It also has a UV protective coating against strong UV rays that would otherwise cause sun damage and fade your awning.

This product is also extremely affordable and will work on any awning fabric.

As great as a purifier like this is, there are a few downsides. It may not be as effective as other products at removing extreme cases of black streaks. To treat heavily soiled awnings you can check out some of my other recommendations.

This Camco awning cleaner is a popular choice with RV owners due to its affordable price and high cleaning performance. That makes it a strong contender for the best RV awning cleaner in my book!

To use the product, mix four ounces of the concentrated formula into one gallon of water. Or you can apply the concentrate directly to stubborn stains. This is a great product for general awning maintenance and removing built up dirt.

This product can be used on acrylic, nylon and vinyl awnings. It is gentle on your awning material but is an effective cleaner for removing insects, tree sap, dirt, bird droppings and road grime.

Depending on the intensity, you can also use it to remove mildew, mold and black streaks. Apply the product with a soft brush or sponge. If the stains are deep, you should apply it with pressure (and maybe a couple of times).

A small downside to this Camco product is that it does not provide UV protection for your awning.

Although it doesn’t have a strong chemical odor, it does contain chemicals that can irritate your skin. Be sure to wear gloves while using the product.

Overall, some consider this to be the best RV awning cleaner. It cleans your awning well and helps keep it in great condition on a budget.

Thetford Premium RV Awning Cleaner is my third pick for best RV awning cleaner. It is biodegradable and very effective at removing dirt and grime from your awning.

It’s easy to use. Simply fill the product into a spray bottle, spray onto the awning and wipe off with a cloth.

It can be used on any type of awning material including fabric, vinyl and plastic.

Another great benefit of this cleaner is the extra protection it provides for your awning. UV protection is included in the product. This will prevent your awning from discoloring and deteriorating.

In addition, the product has a pleasant smell. Many cleaners currently on the market can have an unpleasant odor. This Thetford cleaner offers a pleasant smell that does not linger.

One downside to this cleaner is that it may require more than one application to remove heavy stains or particularly dirty RV awnings.

Come by and see what we have for your next RV lifestyle adventure!

The fourth best RV awning cleaner on my list is Star Brite Mold and Mildew Stain Remover. This product is designed to remove mold. It is specially formulated to remove mold for up to a year.

It is safe for most awning materials including fiberglass, vinyl and plastic. However, it may not be safe for everyone as it uses a buffered bleaching formula. When used on the right material, this formula offers excellent cleaning power.

Star Brite’s special formula is easy to apply and doesn’t require heavy scrubbing. Spray on and leave for a while, just lightly brushing at stubborn stains. Then rinse it off.

For a “like new” cleaning, perform a few applications of the product on the heavily soiled areas.

This product smells strongly of bleach. It is also recommended to wear gloves when applying as it contains sodium hypochlorite. Also, pay attention to the product flow and avoid plants and other water sources.

While this product is a leading choice for treating powdery mildew, be sure to test on an inconspicuous area the first time you use it. This way you can see if it will discolour your awning material.

Overall, this is one of the best products for removing mold or mildew.

303 Multi-Surface Cleaner is one of the most user-friendly products on the market. It has excellent multi-purpose capabilities and comes at an affordable price.

This product is solvent and dye free, making it suitable for even the most delicate synthetic fabric awnings.

Easy to use, simply spray the product onto your awning, scrub with a stiff brush and rinse off. Once sprayed on, the cleaning solution dissolves dirt well.

For stubborn stains, you may need more than one application. Or leave the product on longer and scrub a little more.

Whilst this is an excellent product for general use it is not suitable for treating mold growth or mold stains. This may not work effectively.

Overall, it’s not the most cost-effective brand out there.

It does a great job of removing general dirt and grime with ease. Besides, it can also be used on delicate materials. For that, we ranked it fifth in the list of the best awning cleaners for RVs.

How do you fix a leaking awning?

Wash the leaking area and after it dries, apply a line of polyether sealant to cracks or gaps in the awning. Use a sealant that is UV resistant, exterior grade and designed for seams and metal. The sealant will fill the crack as it dries and plug the leak.

Awning Maintenance Tips

Step 1

Use a screwdriver to remove any screws near the leak. Remove rust with a wire brush and replace the old screws with stainless steel screws. Use a new screw that is larger than the old one to fill and seal the hole. Take the old screw to the store so you can compare it with the new screws. Old screws can cause leaks as they rust or corrode. Stainless steel screws last longer.

When should you retract an awning?

Keep your awning retracted during periods of hail, heavy rain, and winds above 20 mph, which may damage the arm and even the fabric. Remember that an awning does not double as an umbrella; it should be retracted during periods of rain.

Awning Maintenance Tips

At Humphrys, our warranty covers many aspects of the wear and tear that can occur with awnings and we stand behind our product. That said, there is no substitute for giving your awning a little TLC from time to time.

General Care of Retractable Awnings When caring for your retractable awnings, always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. Each make and model may have specific instructions that are important for use and care. It is good practice to fully extend your awning during use to prevent sagging that could permanently stretch the fabric over time. The metal frame and roller should be cleaned occasionally to keep the mechanism running smoothly. Treat the moving parts of your awning with spray lubricant annually and as needed. Both automatic and manual retractable awnings benefit from the occasional application of lubricant. Should any part of the frame, bracket, webbing, arm or roller become damaged it is important that it is repaired before using again to prevent further damage.

Cleaning Your Awnings Take a few minutes each month to look after your awnings while they are in use to keep them looking good and prolong their life. A quick spray with the hose removes dirt and debris on the surface and prevents it from penetrating the fabric. Use a brush or broom to go over the underside of the awning to remove anything that has caught or stuck to the fabric. If your awnings have been up for more than a week at a time, make sure you open them up for a quick hose down to avoid dust and dirt stains. Before you pack your awning away for the colder months, take the time to hose it down thoroughly and gently scrub both sides with cold water and a mild soap. Rinse off the soap completely and make sure the fabric is completely dry before storing. Store your awning in a breathable bag or box in a dry place to avoid dust and dirt build-up during the winter months. If you’ve stored it properly, getting your awning ready for the summer should be a breeze. Simply wipe all metal parts with a damp cloth and hose down if necessary. And most important of all, while you should never say never, the exception is when it comes to pressure washing your awnings. NEVER wash awning fabric!

Keep Awnings Free of Plant Material One key to keeping your awnings looking new is to keep them free of leaves and plants. Surprisingly, leaves contain an acid that can damage and discolor fabrics. Try not to install your awning near trees that might drop leaves on them. Shortly thereafter, it is advisable to remove neighboring branches. Also, don’t allow vines or other plants to reach your awnings; always keep these trimmed back.

Can I leave retractable awning open?

Many people prefer Retractable Awnings because they can move them easily, depending on the weather. On a hot day, you can fully open your awning for optimum shade. As the weather cools, you can leave the awning closed and enjoy the sun. Retractable awnings have many other advantages, however.

Awning Maintenance Tips

Summer is here and your home could probably use an awning. Awnings play a huge role in protecting you from the summer heat and making your decks and pool areas comfortable enough for regular use. Both retractable and stationary awnings are solid choices, and both have many positive qualities. Knowing exactly what each type offers allows you to choose from the various options available.

Retractable awnings

Many people prefer retractable awnings because they can be easily moved depending on the weather. On a hot day, you can fully open your awning for optimal shade. When the weather gets cooler you can leave the awning closed and enjoy the sun. However, retractable awnings have many other advantages. First, the fully enclosed hood protects the fabric and extends engine life. Retractable awnings, like our Bella Plus, tend to be more compact than stationary ones.

Depending on which retractable awning you choose, you can adjust the pitch as you like. Most people assume that retractable awnings can be closed or just opened, but Window Works awnings have a variety of pitch options. Also, you can raise and lower each corner independently of the others.

At Window Works we also offer optional fold down blinds for our retractable awnings. The sun shade provides extra protection when the sun hits your patio or deck at a lower angle. Now you can enjoy your patio or deck longer into the evening. This can also make it easier to do tight jobs outdoors, such as B. Reading or working on a laptop. Ask about our blinds if your home faces west, which generally increases sunset glare.

Our retractable awnings can shade up to 475 square feet, and our Teflon-coated bushings reduce noise as you raise and lower the awning. Window Works awnings are coated with nylon, which protects them from summer storms and other severe weather.

If you want to protect both the inside of your home and the outside, consider our retractable window awnings. These reduce glare and heat, protecting your window glass from fading, harsh weather and other damage.

Stationary awnings

Some people don’t like the idea of having to roll up and down an awning every time the weather changes. For them, Window Works offers stationary awnings. As with our retractable models, we offer stationary window and deck and patio awnings. Available with or without retractable shade sails to protect the sides, they offer the same protection from UV rays as retractable awnings.

Our stationary awnings come in a variety of styles to suit almost any building. If you choose a fabric awning, you can choose from a wide range of colors and designs. Shed and dome awnings in 1″ and 2″ welded square aluminum are also available.

Here’s How To Keep RV Awnings Looking Good and Working Well

Nothing about your RV says “relax” like your RV awning. You press a button to open it, take a seat in its shade, and probably – quite often – eat under it. And when you’re ready to hit the road, just push a button again to retract it.

But this relaxation station also needs care. Moving parts must be lubricated regularly. And the fabric (usually woven vinyl) needs to be cleaned, de-molded and given a sealer/protectant – especially before long-term storage.

First clean the awning

First you should clean your awning. Always check your owner’s manual to make sure you’re using chemicals that won’t harm it. Mold will form on an awning after it gets wet and sometimes when it’s rolled up. So it’s good to use a product that contains bleach or a mildew killer. An alternative is a mixture of ¼ cup bleach and ¼ cup dish soap in 5 gallons of water.

Things you need, all of which you can buy at a home center:

Old clothes and hat (fade stains on clothes and hair)

cleaning supplies

Bucket

hose and running water

Applicator (garden pressure sprayer with hand pump and resistance to damage from bleach)

Long-handled brush or sponge with soft bristles

hand sponge

reading material (yes, really)

Long handle paint roller

Sealing/Protective, e.g. B. 303 products

Follow these steps:

Open your awning. Check for colorfastness in an area that is not visible – near the top where a strip of the fully extended awning is pointing to the side of your RV. Mix the cleaning solution and pour it into the sprayer. Hose down the top of the awning. Use a garden sprayer to apply the cleaner. Disconnect hose from underside of awning. Place the awning in its travel position and wait 10 to 15 minutes for the solution to set. Find some shade and read. (Didn’t I tell you?) Open the awning again. Flush thoroughly with the hose and inspect. Scrub stubborn stains with the brush or sponge. If the awning still seems dirty, repeat steps 4, 5 and 6. Heavily soiled awnings may require a third application. Open again and let dry. When the awning has dried use the roller to apply the sealer/protector. Allow the protectant to dry thoroughly (sometimes up to 12 hours, less if in direct sunlight) and keep anhydrous until then.

The awning lubrication ensures smooth operation

Now it’s time to lubricate. You need two things:

Silicone-based spray lubricant

rag or paper towel

Follow these steps:

With the awning open, spray the lubricant on moving parts: hinges, the ends of the awning roll, support arm pistons. Wipe away drips and runs with the rag/paper towel. Open and close the awning several times to allow the lubricant to work. Wipe off excess lubricant.

That’s it. You can now enjoy your awning for weeks – maybe even months – before you have to do it again.

Until the next big cleaning, use a sponge to wipe dirty areas, such as B. bird droppings, to be cleaned selectively. If the awning is used a lot, clean it in between with a non-bleaching detergent such as B.Simple Green. It’s not that hard for the fabric. This biodegradable, natural concentrate eats through fat with ease.

How to Clean Your RV Awning: Remove Stains and Protect

How to Clean Your Motorhome Awning: Remove stains, seal and protect

When it comes to mobile living, awnings are a great addition to RVs, RVs, and even trailers. To ensure your awning provides years of reliable, trouble-free service, we’ve put together this list that you can use to guide you through proper RV awning cleaning and preventive maintenance.

Vinyl awnings vs. fabric awnings

First, be aware of the material you are working with: proper care of a vinyl awning is not the same as cleaning a fabric awning. Most vinyl RV awnings are made from high quality “marine grade” vinyl. Fabric canopies, on the other hand, are actually solution-dyed acrylic fabrics.

Fabric awnings

Most high quality fabric awnings (often referred to as “acrylic” or “canvas”) are manufactured by Sunbrella®. This breathable outdoor textile has a high UV tolerance and dries quickly. Its special finish makes it resistant to stains containing water and oil. Over time, this repellent finish can fade. In this case, your once quick-drying awning may instead become damp. If left untreated, the material can become permanently soiled. It might even start leaking.

vinyl awnings

Vinyl awning fabric is mold resistant, but not necessarily mold proof. Mold that forms on the dirt and dust that accumulates on vinyl fabric can be particularly troublesome in warm, humid climates and when the fabric is stored wet.

With proper care, vinyl awnings are so easy to clean that special cleaning solutions are almost never required. And since most “awning cleaners” contain bleach and other ingredients that are harmful to vinyl, avoiding such products means your awning will last a lot longer.

How to clean your RV awning in three easy steps

Stains, mold and leaks can all be avoided with a few simple steps:

1. Clean Wash the awning with a good quality cleaner suitable for outdoor fabrics and vinyl.

2. Protect After thorough cleaning, treat the awning with surface protection. Use a commercially available fabric protector for fabric awnings. (Note that consumer-grade fabric protectants do not adequately protect outdoor fabrics from the elements.) For vinyl awnings, choose a quality finish.

You want a spray that is stain resistant, water and dirt repellent, and most importantly, durable.

Tip: Silicone water repellent treatments are commonly available but should never be used on Sunbrella awnings. Failure to do so may void the factory warranty.

3. Reapply By regularly applying a protective spray, your awning will stay cleaner longer and dry much faster. And since sheltered awnings are less damp when rolled up and stored, mold and stains are less likely.

Awning Maintenance Tips

Awning maintenance tips

With routine awning maintenance, you can prevent premature wear and repair costs, extend the life of your awning, and keep your home looking pristine for longer.

Awning maintenance tips

Exposure to various elements such as direct sunlight, strong winds and excessive humidity can severely affect the quality and effectiveness of your awning.

To best prevent damage and keep your awning looking attractive and ready for use for many years, homeowners should perform regular awning maintenance at least once a month. Basic awning maintenance is quick and easy to perform and will keep your awning looking like new:

Brush loose dirt and debris off the awning surface.

Use a hose to wet the surface and remove extra debris.

Mix a mild dish soap and warm water, then use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the awning surfaces and materials.

Allow the mixture to soak sufficiently into the cloth, then rinse thoroughly to remove excess soap.

Allow your awning to dry completely before attempting to retract it.

To minimize maintenance and cleaning, homeowners should be proactive in their grooming routine. Professional awning installation experts recommend homeowners never leave their retractable awnings open during a storm, avoid rolling up wet awnings to prevent dangerous and unsightly mold growth, regularly trim overhanging branches, and keep moving parts well lubricated to reduce corrosion build-up and to ensure efficiency operation.

How to clean an awning

When you are constantly outside, your awning often develops severe stains, affecting the appearance and quality of your materials. In addition to routine monthly cleaning, homeowners should also take the time to do a thorough awning cleaning at least every two or three years. With vigorous cleaning practices, you can easily remove stubborn stains, including tree sap, bird droppings, rust, oil stains, paint drips, or mold growth.

Follow these steps to properly clean your awning and remove stubborn stains:

Mix a solution of 1 cup bleach, 1/4 cup mild soap, and 1 gallon water.

Apply the mixture to stubborn stains and leave on for at least 15 minutes.

Scrub the stain lightly with a soft-bristled brush.

Rinse the area completely to remove excess soap.

Allow the awning to air dry completely before retracting.
