Navy, Beige, Black, and White nail polish go with a Burgundy dress. You can also wear Mustard, Peach, or Turquoise nail polish. Light and charcoal gray, most shades of green, and pink or purple nails will work well with a Burgundy dress.

Should I match my nails to my dress?

A: When selecting a nail color to go with your outfit for a special event, do not feel like you need to match it to your outfit. Instead opt for a color that compliments it without matching. A great example would be if you are wearing a navy dress, go for a coral color polish in the summer and a deep red in the winter.

What colour nail polish goes with red dress?

Black, white, navy, and beige nails go with a red dress. You can also wear red nail polish and most shades of gray. Gold, olive green and teal nails also work with a red dress. Blush pink, orange and purple can also work if you choose the right shade.

What color nail polish is classy?

Classic Red Nails

It’s a timeless colour that exudes femininity, confidence and just overall elegance, and that’s all there is to it. And so, no matter what you’re wearing, rest assured that red nail polish is always suitable.

What nail polish goes with everything?

Chocolate Brown

The right shade of brown nail polish certainly can go with everything. Brown nails can go with casual wear, and they can go with formal wear quite easily. It’s another great color for fall. Pair it with wardrobes that include shades of pink, yellow, creams, oranges, gold, and even shades of green.

What color nail polish goes with a red dress? Ultimate guide.

If you have to have different outfits for work every day, then knowing what nail polish color goes with everything is a big help. No need to squeeze in a rushed manicure to make any outfit look complete.

Here we are going to take a closer look at nail polish colors that are suitable for an everyday look and still make you look and feel good. You don’t necessarily want it to match your outfit, but rather what you’re wearing.

With this guide, you don’t have to worry about finding something suitable every day. That’s great because let’s face it, we can all worry about one less thing.

What nail polish color goes with everything?

A good manicure allows us to have perfect nails within two to four weeks, so choosing a color that lasts that long is crucial. Let’s take a look at the colors you could use.

olive green

Wear Wild Willow anytime, anywhere, with anything. This shade of green is neutral but is at its prettiest in fall. The color is harmonious and it is said that people who wear this color are naturally gentle, balanced and strong-willed.

Although it goes with everything, the color looks particularly good with black leather. It adds a sense of sophistication to the look. It’s also very pretty with white, your nails will pop against the white and draw attention to your perfect manicure.

This earthy, adventurous and powerful color works well outdoors or indoors, on the mountain or in an upscale restaurant. We love this color with blue, yellow, white, black and/or nude. It’s also a great color for a background color when doing floral or leaf-themed nail art.

gray nails

The different shades of gray suit your wardrobe all year round. Lighter shades like Mirror Mirror Max nail polish are perfect for spring and summer. It goes beautifully with a white dress or suit.

Our favorite summer colors for gray are white, green, red, yellow, orange and pink. These colors look really great together.

The darker shades like Mansion Lane Nail Polish are great for the colder months. Moody yet sophisticated, these shades of gray pair well with leather and denim.

It also complements beautifully silver jewelry. And in combination it looks modern yet quirky but also adds that touch of elegance to your look. It’s just an overall versatile shade that works well for any occasion.

Beige or bare nails

Nude or beige tones are incredibly versatile and we like them because not only do they work every day, but they’re also great for special occasions. Nudes are classy and add a sense of elegance to any occasion.

However, you get different nude shades and the shade you choose depends on your skin tone. Medium and darker complexions usually go well with any shade of nude, but it is preferable to go for a lighter shade so you don’t end up with mannequin nails.

For this skin type, opt for colors like our Mind, Body, Spirit or our Sheer Nude. The lighter skin types should opt for the darker nude shades like our Roam With Me and Trailblazer.

You need to find the perfect beige or nude that suits your skin tone. So paint a nail or two as you go through the different shades.

This classy hue pairs beautifully with gold jewelry and these hues go with any outfit and any time of the year. You can go from casual to formal effortlessly instead of wasting time worrying about how to match nail polish to match your attire.

white nails

If you don’t know how to wear white nail polish, fret not, it’s actually the easiest color to mix and match. White nails really go with everything and make any color pop. If you’re silently wondering “does white nail polish look good?” the answer is yes.

In summer, it can be wonderfully combined with pastel shades or light-colored clothing in your wardrobe. And in winter it goes beautifully with the darker colors. White nail polish goes with everything from jeans to work clothes and leather to formal dresses and even a beach look.

There isn’t an outfit that white nail polish doesn’t go with. It is also a perfect color for short nails, giving them a youthful fresh look.

However, be careful when working with food and spices. You should stay away from turmeric or anything else that you think might stain your white polish. Because if they get stained, it is difficult to remove the stains and you may have to redo the entire manicure.

pink nails

Also known as blush nails, pink nails closely resemble your natural nail color. It’s great if you want your nails to look almost bare but polished. You just have to find the perfect shade of pink for you.

Pink nails are modern and chic and your nails look on point yet barely there. When it comes to your skin tone, there is no need to worry either, blush suits all skin tones. You might find that a few shades of this bright pink work for your skin tone.

It works especially well on sun-kissed skin. Deciding what to wear with blush nails is easy because everything goes with this color. Unlike the darker shades where the colors don’t match as easily. For dark shades, for example, you need to know how to wear black nail polish.

It is also very popular for weddings. Try Lift The Veil Max nail polish, whether you’re the bride or a guest, this color is ideal for the occasion. Ethereal Plane Nail Polish is another example of a blush shade. It’s soft and neutral with a soft shimmer and a little bit of opalescence.

Red nail polish

Red is stylish, bold and vibrant. It works because it’s iconic and exudes femininity. This classic nail polish color goes with everything and is etched in our memories as famous stars have sported the color through centuries of filmmaking.

With their confidence and elegance, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth helped popularize red lacquer in the 1950s. Marlene Dietrich took on the lead role in the 1937 romantic comedy Angel and she wore a rose-pink polish.

’50s star Lucille Ball took part in I Love Lucy and often paired her blonde hair with bright red lips and nails. Faye Dunaway in neo-noir Chinatown, who paired her hats with a glossy red manicure.

Barbara Streisand played Fanny Brice in Funny Lady and Olivia Newton-John played Sandy, Newton-John’s innocent character in Grease with scarlet nails and lipstick. Joan Collins in Dynasty and the list goes on and on.

The color is a classic for a reason and can be worn with anything, through the years and decades. The color is timeless.

Navy blue nails

Don’t be shocked that we’ve included navy blue in this list. It can look very chic and goes well with any color. It’s stylish and modern and will go with your evening dress, jeans and just about anything.

When you think about it, navy sits somewhere between black and denim blue, both of which colors are extremely versatile. Easy to wear, it looks stunning on fair skin and is flattering on darker skin. It is also one of the colors associated with royalty.

Royal Navy nail polish is a great shade of blue. It gleams with a not-so-obvious sheen that makes it fun in the sun. Navy is a great color to pair with white and nude. Doesn’t go well with black unless it’s patterned.

Her navy blue nails will elevate any outfit and make you feel, well, posh. And just like grey, navy pairs beautifully with silver jewellery.

chocolate brown

Brown may not be popular in your closet, but that’s okay, it doesn’t have to be. Brown nail polish just needs to complement what you are wearing. The right brown nail polish can certainly go with everything.

Brown nails can go with casual wear, and they can easily go with formal wear. It’s another great color for fall. Match it with wardrobes that contain shades of pink, yellow, cream, orange, gold and even green.

It is a warm color that goes so well with any clothing color and skin tone. And great for fall and winter. Orange is just as great for fall, read What Color Nail Polish With An Orange Dress for some ideas on how to jazz up your orange with a gorgeous manicure.

ivory

Soft and subtle, Ivory is a beautiful color nail polish for redheads. It’s a neutral color that goes with everything from creams to greys, browns, navy, greens and deep reds. The color is romantic and is stunning with gold jewelry and another beautiful color for weddings.

The off-white color has a slight hint of yellow which makes it not as harsh as white. It’s also great against bright clothing. People who choose this color are usually gentle, enjoy nature and choose the simplicity of life.

Conclusion

Any of the above colors is a good choice if you’re worried about which nail polish will go with the shoe colors you have in your wardrobe. Changing nail polish frequently takes up your free time and increases your budget.

So the simplest solution is to pick nail colors that go with everything. Whether you prefer gel, acrylic or traditional nail polish, our color guide to polish that goes with everything will leave you less stressed and with more time and money in your pocket.

Should lipstick match nail polish?

Here are some basics!

You can match the lipstick to your nail polish or have it different.

Some makeup gurus will agree that lipstick should match your nails. Coordinating everything was a big trend a few years ago, but not so much today. If you’re a matchy-matchy person, you might appreciate matching yours.

Don’t match your lipstick with your nail polish

If you’re looking for that extra pop of color that will make you stand out from the crowd, you’ll get it by wearing conflicting colors instead. When you are in your teens and early 20s, you can choose to be slightly mischievous or rebellious with your makeup and still be forgiven. Such contrasting makeup goes well with jeans and any other outfit that you would wear to a casual outing.

Now that you know the basics, I think you can answer the question – should lipstick go with nail polish? If you’re still not sure, let’s see what the beauty and style pros have to say.

What is the best nail polish color for toes?

Pedicures are inherently extra – and I mean that in the best possible way. While your hands (and your manicure) are pretty much always visible to everyone around you, simply by anatomical dictation, your feet could be hidden in shoes or simply out of the peripheral vision of anyone you interact with. Painting your toenails is arguably unnecessary, which is what makes it so delightfully smug. It’s an act of beauty that’s really meant for your own consumption more than anyone else because nobody sees your toes more than you do.

Following this logic, there are absolutely no rules when it comes to choosing a nail polish color for your pedicure. Whatever you want to see while barefoot or wearing open toed shoes is what you should choose. But when you’re actually faced with that decision, the seemingly endless options may make you want to forgo the polish altogether (which, by the way, is totally okay too).

If you’re looking for a little guide on which polishes might look particularly great on your toes, allow us to narrow it down to a few favorite and trending colors we can’t get enough of.

1. Mint Turquoise

It’s too blue to be seafoam, too green to be a rock-perfect turquoise, but mint turquoise is the perfect fantasy lagoon hue. It feels both pastel and neon – a perfect combination for the transition from spring to summer.

KB Shimmer’s Happy Camper ($11) is an instant refreshment for any eyes that catch a glimpse of your feet. And amazingly, you might not even need two coats for full coverage. Meanwhile, Gucci Vernis à Ongle’s nail polish in 713 Dorothy Turquoise ($30) somehow looks even prettier and more gorgeously retro on your toes than it does in its display-worthy bottle.

2.Flamingo

If you’ve ever been oddly jealous of how flamingos just eat pink things and then take on an incredible hue of bright pink themselves, then CND Vinylux Long Wear Polish in Beach Escape ($7) should help assuage some of your envy. It’s like watermelon and salmon coming together and — although that would be an absolutely horrible combination to eat — create a stunning color that begs to be worn with sandals.

Do fingernail polish and toenail polish have to match?

Simply put, no – you mani and pedi doesn’t have to match. Back in the day, it used to be mandatory to match the colour on your fingernails to your toes but, over the years this trend has become predictable and a little boring too.

Need to customize your mani and pedi in 2021?

Everything you need to know about manicures and pedicures this year

One of the biggest dilemmas women face when it comes to getting their nails done is the question “Should your manicure and pedicure match?” If you’re one of the many women looking for an answer to this popular question search, read below. We will also discuss some of the best mani pedi color combos to try in 2021.

Do you want your manicure and pedicure to match?

Simply put, no – your manicure and pedicure don’t have to match. Matching the color of your fingernails to your toes used to be mandatory, but over the years this trend has become predictable and a little boring as well.

In this day and age, when there is a wide range of different colors, shades, and nail art designs to incorporate into your manicure and pedicure, opting for nails that match seems like an outdated option. It should be noted that there is nothing wrong with opting for a mani pedi regimen. This could be done by applying similar nail polish colors to fingers and toes. This is great if you prefer a more classic look, but with the wide range of bold colors, prints and designs to choose from, your nails can become your most desired accessory.

To choose a nail polish color that suits you, you should match your nails to your skin tone. For example, nude tones look great on fair skin, while pastels and light purples pair better with darker skin. No matter what your skin tone, pink or blue will make your nails pop. Every woman needs a red nail polish in her collection, but try to match the shade to your skin tone as darker shades of red suit darker skin better. Alternatively, customize your nails to match your personality or mood. For example, if you feel happy and energetic, opt for bright orange, blue, green, and pink. For a more sophisticated look, choose darker colors like deep purple and red. For more tips, including choosing a nail polish for a special occasion, read on!

What are neutral colors for nails?

Neutral tones are basically any colors that won’t show up on a color wheel. They generally don’t compete with other colors but instead act as a supporting background shade. What is this? You can easily break neutral colors down by looking at the main groups of neutral colors: white, beige, grey, black, brown, and blue.

What color nail polish goes with a red dress? Ultimate guide.

Every year I feel more and more attracted to neutral tones.

When I was younger I thought lighter was better, but now I know how well neutral colors stand the test of time.

Whether I’m decorating my home with neutral colors (literally everything I wear), shopping for seasonal essentials, or painting my nails, I always gravitate toward simple, classic tones.

Neutral nail colors are particularly beautiful. It’s always fun to do a bright pink or red — believe me, I get it — but good neutral nail colors go with literally any outfit you choose.

Depending on the season and the occasion, there are many different shades of neutral nails and, more generally, different nude colors.

Hopefully this post will help you figure out exactly what neutral shade you are looking for and why!

Which colors are neutral?

Neutral nail colors come in a surprisingly large variety of colors. Neutral tones are basically any color that doesn’t appear on a color wheel. They generally don’t compete with other colors, instead acting as a supporting background color.

You can easily break down neutral colors by looking at the main groups of neutral colors: white, beige, gray, black, brown, and blue.

Some of these color groups will overlap (for example, a warm, pearly off-white might have hints of beige), but these are generally the main groups that all neutral nail colors fit into.

Tips for choosing a neutral nail color

Almost all neutral nail colors will go with most outfit pieces, so choosing one can be quite difficult. I like to start by figuring out what neutral colors work best for the current season.

Spring:

While color is always in fashion in spring, neutral colors also look very pretty.

Soft pearly whites, light pinks, nudes and soft beiges and grays always look good. Spring is all about soft colors.

Summer:

As one of the liveliest seasons, summer is the best time to get colorful, but if you want to stay classic and opt for a neutral color (like I often do), you can get a little bolder.

A bright white, lighter gray or beige, or shade of blue (including navy) will look great in summer.

Autumn:

This is definitely one of the warmest times of the year (color wise!) so you can’t go wrong as long as you stay away from the colder tones.

A warm off-white, beige, brown and even a softer black work well for the fall season.

Winter:

In winter, choose light and cool or dark. For example, you can go for a soft grey, a snow white or a light ice blue, but you can also choose a deep brown, grey, cherry black or regular black.

Once you figure out what color scheme you’re working with based on the time of year, picking a specific shade is much easier.

I’ve listed all of my favorite neutral colors below, categorized by their base color.

A note on glossy vs matte

I’ve linked all of the specific colors below, but depending on what you want your finish to look like, you’ll need to use a gloss or matte top coat. In my opinion these are the best ones that last the longest:

If you get your nails done in a salon, you can ask most nail designers for a matte top coat if you prefer. In my experience, nail techs will opt for a glossy top coat if you don’t specify.

I’ve included a few inspiration photos for trendy nails in each color group below. I started with the lightest nails. So if you are looking for darker neutral nails, scroll to the middle/bottom of the post.

Feel free to save any photo to your camera roll (press and hold the photo then click save to camera roll) so you can show it to your nail artist later.

White

There are a number of different shades of white that work for many seasons. They look amazing with a glossy and matte finish.

White is a classic! It’s my favorite neutral nail color for summer, but I also love a softer white in winter and a warmer white in spring.

Nails • ★★★★★ 11 fabulous nail polish colors men love on women…By Sugar

Split

Every time I go to the nail salon, I think about a question that every client has thought of at least once: Are there certain nail polish colors that men love on women? Some people say it’s silly to plan your life around what a man likes best about you. While this is very true, if you are like most ladies in a crowded dating market, most of the time you are trying everything you can to land a decent man! However, what most people don’t realize is that one of the first things men notice about women when they first meet her is her hands. And if you think about it, it’s really unavoidable when you go out for a drink or something to eat because they’re right in front of you. Believe it or not, there are several nail polish colors that men love! Table of Contents: Ruby Red Coral Emerald Ballet Shoes Pink Lavender Crimson Magenta Nude White Plum Grey

1 Ruby Red I’ve been told several times by men that the best color in all women is bright ruby red. Ruby red can be paired with almost any outfit, especially the classic little black dress or the lace white summer top. While this can seem like a big risk for more conservative women, it’s definitely one of the most striking and alluring nail polish colors that men love. So there’s no reason not to take that leap of faith and see how the men around you react. 17 Piet right for me…add comment…

2 Coral Coral has been declared the trend color for spring and summer by many fashion experts. But as a personal favourite, even though coral wasn’t in fashion this season, I would absolutely recommend it for a stunning nail color that will catch the eyes of any male prospect. Men claim that they love coral on women because it complements even the palest of skin tones and looks very pretty and natural. Coral can definitely be classified among the nail polish colors that men love because it is so adorable, fun, pretty and subtle at the same time. 39 Carol I agree! …add a comment…

3 Emerald Whether you’re a true Irish redhead or not, emerald is simply one of those classic and elegant nail polish colors that men love! Especially on dinner dates and formal occasions, emerald really shows off that healthy skin and cuticles when you meet someone new and shake their hand. In dark settings, emerald green nails are perfect for adding that extra edge to your outfit and getting you noticed by men you wouldn’t normally see. While some men will agree that certain shades of emerald can sometimes be interpreted as gaudy, just the right shades of dark green and gold can create a stunningly sexy nail polish color. No wonder this is one of those nail polish colors that men love! 67 Add comment…

4 Ballet Slipper Pink The beautiful, delicate shade of pink found on ballet slippers has been magically captured in a nail polish bottle to create Ballet Slipper Pink. It’s known as one of the nail polish colors that men love because it’s as natural and easy as it gets without completely washing out your skin tone. Men who are normally reserved and conservative prefer women who behave in a similar way, hence my recommendation for this beautiful muted pink. What is nail Ombre?

Ombre nails are just a a type of layered manicure that speaks to a seamless, blended color gradient or transition (light to dark or vice versa) more than a specific type of product.

What color nail polish goes with a red dress? Ultimate guide.

All about ombré nails

All about OMBRE nails!

Shhh!!! Did you know that you can use it to create gorgeous ombre nails?

ALL our powders?

It’s true!

A lot of people have been calling us lately asking about ombre powders. The general consensus is that there are only certain powders that can provide this type of enhancement. Well, due to the popular and very frequently asked questions, we decided to explain what ombre really is, how to do it and what some of our suggested combinations of powders can look like!

What are ombré nails?

Ombre nails are very trendy right now and it seems like everyone wants them. The best news is that it’s not some exotic technique or anything that’s going to revolutionize the industry; No, our world can stay upright – for now. Ombre nails are just a type of layered manicure that speaks to a seamless, blended gradient or transition (light to dark or vice versa) rather than any specific type of product.

Ombre nails can generally be made with any type of enhancement (gel, gel polish, traditional lacquer or dip acrylics), but for this we are talking traditional liquid and powder acrylics. To give you an idea, think of the traditional and timeless classic: pink and white. There is a pink on the finger and a white on the free edge with a very sharp and strategically placed smile line separating the two. Now take that clearly defined smile line and smudge it so that the pink at the tip fades smoothly from the cuticle to white.

Achieving the perfect ombre effect takes practice. However, since you can do ombre with all our powders, we have opened a window for you to express your originality and talent by making your ombre unique.

How to do ombré nails!

Start with proper nail prep!

Apply the color chosen for the tip and apply to the free edge. Using your brush like a pen, gently pull towards the cuticle that has just passed halfway through the nail.

Dry your brush and blot the rest of the nail to ensure the applied acrylic is nice and smooth.

Place a small bead in the color of the “cover” you choose along the faded line of the acrylic previously applied. Pull this color towards the tip in smooth motions to gently draw the color across the nail as evenly as possible.

Apply a cuticle bead and evenly sweep the color down towards the tip.

******Note******

It’s okay to apply these colors too thick, but you’ll need to file them down before proceeding to the next step. As you lay down the colored acrylic layers you will also notice a change in the even placement of your transition color lines, so you need to be careful where you lay down and how much you take off. (You might not want to use a drill for this as it’s very easy to get too cumbersome and accidentally take off too much.)

After these acrylic dots have been applied (and filed if necessary), you’ll want to cover the entire improvement with a layer of high-quality, “crystal clear” powder. Place your bead of clear powder slightly further back from the cuticle, in the middle of where your apex should be. Using your brush, push the acrylic towards the cuticle before drawing it down the sides and through the tip. Be sure to leave some of the clear stuff where you placed it to form the parting.

File the newest layer of clear acrylic so that it lies flush around the cuticle and shape the nail as you desire. Be sure to buff out any small scratches left by the tray.

Apply a thin coat of your top coat (dual sealer) and let your work shine.

Final note: as you continue layering the acrylic, keep an eye on the thickness of the finished enhancement. Even after applying the top coat, the exposed edge should be no thicker than a credit card, and your parting should be about the thickness of just two credit cards.

What color nail polish goes with a red dress? Ultimate guide.

For example, what nail shape goes best with the bright blush of this season’s new rosé nail look? And what about tortoiseshell nails? Then there is the question of which nail shape best suits your natural nail and finger shape?

What color nail polish goes with a Burgundy dress? Full guide.

Do you have a nice burgundy dress? Would you like some Polish options? Then this post is for you. Today we’re going to look at what nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress.

But before we go deeper, here’s the answer in a nutshell (just in case you have a party you need to come to 😉).

Navy blue, beige, black and white nail polish suits a burgundy dress. You can also wear mustard, peach or turquoise nail polish. Light and charcoal gray, most shades of green and pink or purple nails go well with a burgundy dress.

Now you have a basic idea of what colors go well with burgundy.

But before you reach for that bottle of polish, let’s dig a little deeper.

We’re going to talk about shades and their vibrations, and I’m going to share some tips to get the “feel” right.

I even show you some exact nail polish colors to match with a burgundy dress.

Let’s do this.

Here is a table of contents for easy navigation:

Table of Contents:

– Navy

– Beige

– Brown

– Light and anthracite grey

Final Thoughts

What nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress? Neutral paint colors that work.

I love neutral nail polish colors.

No matter what I’m wearing, there’s always a perfect neutral that will go.

Neutral nail polish colors like black, white, navy, silver, beige, and nude go with everything (including a burgundy dress!).

Check out my 14 Nail Polish Colors That Match Any Outfit post to learn more about neutral nail colors.

Now back to your dress.

Burgundy is a deep, rich, warm reddish brown.

It calls for sophistication, power, wealth and ambition.

Do you want all eyes on your dress?

Then a neutral nail color will make you look shiny (see what I did there?) without taking the attention away from your dress.

In fact, you can wear any neutral color with your burgundy dress.

But some neutral colors pair a little better with a burgundy dress than others.

The best neutral nail polish colors to wear with a burgundy dress are listed below:

marine

I love a navy blue mani!

Burgundy and navy go together like peaches and cream.

They are both deep, rich colors that create a chic and sophisticated feel.

So many people choose burgundy and navy for their wedding color scheme. Because these two colors together are elegant and noble.

Want a look that says, “I’m confident, sophisticated, and well put together?”

Then you can’t go wrong with navy blue nails and a burgundy dress.

My current favorite marine paint is Essie No More Film

beige

When I think of burgundy and beige together, images of mansions come to mind.

Beige is a classic choice to combine with burgundy.

Beige has brownish-yellow undertones.

These perfectly complement the red-brown tones in burgundy.

If you want a classic, elegant and timeless look, beige nails could be a perfect choice.

Brown

Chocolate brown looks fabulous with burgundy!

But any shade of brown from light to dark suits a burgundy dress.

Burgundy and brown together can look a little androgynous or even masculine.

Just something you might want to keep in mind.

Light and anthracite grey

Medium to light grays in either cool or warm tones will look amazing with your dress.

It’s best to stick with a medium to light gray, as darker grays don’t offer enough contrast with burgundy.

You want a light gray that will enhance the color of your dress.

Like all of the neutral colors in this list, gray nails make for a sophisticated look.

August is an example of a medium gray nail polish by Zoya.

Dawn of a New Gray is a light gray nail polish by OPI.

Any of these 2 shades will look amazing with your burgundy dress!

What nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress? Free nail polish color that works.

In color theory, every color has a complementary color.

If you look at a color wheel, you will see that the complementary colors are always opposite.

Burgundy is primarily red (although it also contains brown and purple undertones).

The complementary color to red is green.

That means most shades of green nail polish will work with a burgundy dress.

Try pairing your burgundy dress with green nail polishes.

Shades like mint or seafoam for a modern and playful atmosphere.

Or choose olive, sage or forest green for a more traditional look.

Using complementary color schemes is a great way to grab people’s attention and make a positive impact.

So feel free to play around and see what works for you.

What nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress? Metallic polishes that work.

Gold and silver nail polish both pair well with burgundy.

Although gold is the more traditional choice.

The warmth of burgundy makes it the perfect partner for gold.

However, silver also looks good as it acts like a neutral.

The combination of burgundy with silver is probably less expected and a little more exciting.

You can also wear gold or silver jewelry with your burgundy dress.

I personally prefer silver.

It is cool toned and creates a striking contrast.

But that’s just my opinion.

You should always experiment and see which look you prefer.

What nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress? Other polish colors that work.

So far, the color combinations we’ve talked about have been neutral, complementary, and metallic.

But what other options are there?

Well, quite a lot actually.

If you’re looking for something fun and unexpected, this section should give you some great color inspiration.

Let’s get into that.

blues

You already know that navy blue goes well with burgundy.

But other shades of blue can also look great.

Royal blue goes particularly well with burgundy, for example.

Royal blue is a great color when you want to make a burgundy dress look less formal.

Shades of blue like teal that contain lots of green will complement your dress as well.

If you want a little more contrast or a more playful look. Then try a light ice blue or a pale grey-blue.

I like this (All Access Pass) from Essie which would go great with burgundy.

gold-yellow

Golden-yellow shades of nail polish go very well with burgundy.

They add a touch of luxury for a polished look.

You can wear golden sun yellow nail polish or a mustard yellow nail polish.

I love mustard and burgundy together for fall.

pink

Pale, delicate pinks make burgundy look less serious and more feminine.

Look for light, warm shades like Zoya’s Joey or floral shades like rose.

Pink-purple tones like fuschia add a playful and modern twist to a burgundy outfit.

peach

Burgundy and peach is another color combination popular for weddings.

It’s the perfect combination of formal yet playful and fun.

It is most often used in the fall and winter seasons.

Try peachy nails to add a light, fresh touch to your formal burgundy dress.

violet

Burgundy and purple is a bold and fun combination.

Bold and bright purples both pair well with burgundy.

Shades like grape can work really well for a chic, well-put together look.

For a feminine and fun vibe, try a lilac nail polish.

Turquoise

Any shade of teal should match your burgundy dress.

But turquoise is the perfect shade to really make a bold statement.

Turquoise and burgundy together signal confidence and creativity.

So give this combo a try if you want to stand out!

Prom nails for a burgundy dress

If you’re wearing burgundy to prom, this section is for you!

Prom is a formal event, but it can also be an opportunity to show off your creativity and personality.

I guess you’ve already chosen your dress, haven’t you?

Then let the dress guide you in your choice of nail color.

What do I mean?

Well, let’s break it down.

Here are some things to think about.

Tips for choosing prom nails to match a burgundy dress

First, take a few seconds to think about how you would describe your prom dress.

Is it classically elegant? fun and flirty? Minimalist and modern? Or whimsical and different?

When choosing a nail color for prom, try to consider the overall look of the dress.

For example, if you are wearing an elegant, stylish, and very formal dress, you want a nail color that matches that mood.

Some great options for a more traditional, formal burgundy dress would be navy blue, chocolate brown, sage, forest green, ivory, champagne, gold or silver nails.

If your dress is on the fun and flirty side, then you might want to get a little more playful with your nails.

Some great ideas for a fun flirty burgundy prom dress would be mint green, sea foam green, or royal blue.

For a modern and minimalist look, plain nails in a neutral color like charcoal, navy blue, black, or beige will suffice.

What are the undertones in your dress?

My second tip is to pay attention to the undertones in your dress. Is it a warm or a cool burgundy?

This can be difficult to pin down because although burgundy is a warm color (a shade of red), it is actually a cool red.

It is often confused with maroon, the warmer version of burgundy.

Googling warm and cool shades of burgundy might help you figure it out.

Once you know if the burgundy shade of your dress is warm or cool, a great trick is to find a nail polish (any color) that has the same undertone as your dress.

So if your dress is cool, look for nail polishes with cool undertones and vice versa.

If you are unsure whether a nail polish color is warm or cool, check the polish descriptions.

Zoya is great at explaining the overall tone of the polish and you can search her website for warm or cool.

Do you want your nails to stand out?

My third tip for matching your nails to your prom dress is to think about how much you want your nails to stand out.

I mean, it’s prom, so you’ll probably want all eyes on your dress, right?

In this case, you should keep your nails simple and avoid too much glitter or flashy colors.

A good way to gauge this is to think about how “busy” your dress is.

Does it have a lot of details? Or is it more subtle?

You can complement a detailed ball gown by adding a modest nail color and understated design.

If you have a lot of detail on your dress, you don’t want a ton of gems, glitter, etc on your nails as it will draw attention away from the dress.

If your burgundy prom dress is minimal, vintage, or understated, you might want to be bolder with your nail choice.

You can opt for a high contrast color or a bold metallic to complete the look.

Final Thoughts

Well done, you made it to the end!

Now you know what nail polish color goes with a burgundy dress.

Hopefully you now have some great ideas on how to do your nails.

The colors listed in this post don’t just work for nails.

Oh no!

You can also use any of the colors I mentioned to choose shoes, bags and accessories.

Enjoy wearing your gorgeous dress and blow her mind! 🤗

Frequently Asked Question about Nails Trends

As a style coach, I work with clients to achieve a look that reflects their personality, body type and age. Clothing is not the only aspect we discuss. Other topics we often tackle are skincare, makeup, and even hairstyles. With the support of my experienced friends (make-up artists, beauticians, etc.) and my many years of experience, I can help my clients to discover a look that is convincing in their own skin.

Many style and beauty questions come to me from either individual clients, a member of the SYC Society, or readers of my monthly column at StyleBluePrint. Especially this summer, customers have been asking for common nail questions and trends. Now more than ever we are seeing fun trends and lots of variety.

Here’s a compilation of the many nail questions I’ve received and my answers to them.

Q: What is your favorite nail polish to use at home?

A: I recently gave up Gel and SNS after trying them both for years! My nails were weak and sad all over after using them consistently. I found these 2 regular polishes that last at least a week without chipping which is pretty awesome considering how much I use my hands: Infinite Shine by OPI and Tom Ford Nail Lacquer.

Q: Do I need to match my nail color with my outfit for a special occasion?

A: If you choose a nail color to match your outfit for a special occasion, you don’t feel like you need to match it with your outfit. Instead, opt for a color that complements her without matching her. A great example would be if you wear a navy blue dress, choose a coral colored lacquer in the summer and a deep red in the winter. Or if you’re wearing a purple dress, try a gray, navy blue, or even white polish.

Q: Do my fingernail polish and toenail polish have to match?

A: Your toenail color and fingernail colors do not have to be the same color. It looks more effortless if you like a more consistent look, so try a tonal coloring method with 2 shades of the same color family.

Q: When it comes to my nails, I tend to stick to the same shade. What color suggestions do you have?

A: It’s time to move away from ballet slipper and bubble bath colors. There are SO many wonderful neutrals out there; Try something new with your next manicure. I personally love a matte white but avoid the outdated French manicure.

Q: What are the trends for the remainder of summer and what colors do you suggest for Fall/Winter 2018?

A: For the remaining days of summer, it’s all about bright and bold nails! Sunny yellow, red-orange, rich purple and other cheerful colors are super fun and stylish. For Fall/Winter 2018 we will see rich metallics, deep navy blues and grays and of course classic rich reds!

How do you match nail polish to a dress? In this section, we’ll go over 3 easy ways to match your nail polish to your dress.

– Suitable for neutral nail polishes

– Complementary color matching

– Adjustment based on the sound

Suitable for neutral nail polishes.

One of the easiest ways to ensure your nails don’t clash with your dress is to choose neutral-colored nail polish.

Neutral nail polish colors are great because they go with a variety of outfits.

Nude colors are a popular choice. A French manicure, a white, or an off-white (like cream) goes well with any colored dress.

Gray is also a great neutral nail polish color. Gray can look sophisticated and classy, and you can pair any shade of gray with red.

Neutral colors are the safest choice when it comes to which nail polish color to go with a red dress.

But some neutral colors work better with red than others. We’ll show you the best ones later in this article.

Complementary color matching.

Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel. Red and green are therefore complementary colors, as are yellow and violet, as well as blue and orange.

Choosing a complementary color combination for your red dress is easy.

You already know that the complementary color that goes best with red is green.

All you have to do now is look at different shades of green and find one that best suits your dress.

Don’t worry, I’ll give you a few more tips for adjusting green and red below.

Matching based on the tone

Not only can you choose a neutral nail polish or a complementary match, but you can also match the nail color tone by tone to your dress.

It’s a bit more difficult, but it can be done!

For a tonal match, the first step is to figure out what shade of red your dress is.

Basically, you want to know if it’s a cool red or a warm red.

Warm-toned reds are yellow, orange, or red-orange in color.

Cold-toned reds have a blue base rather than an orange base.

Viewing images with warm and cool reds side by side can train your eye to tell the difference.

There are many variations of red, but if you focus on figuring out if your dress has warm or cool tones, you can match your dress by tone.

Cool fabrics look better with cool nail polish colors. For example, a dark burgundy nail polish looks great with a blue-based red.

You can check the Polish descriptions online to see if it’s cool or warm.

Now that you have the basics, let’s go through the nail polish colors that work with a red dress.

Best neutral nail polish colors for red dresses

You’ve already read about the versatility of neutral nail polishes, but which neutral colors go best with red?

Here is a list of the best neutral colors to pair with a red dress:

White.

A bright white is a great choice for a day or evening look.

A pure, clear white like OPI’s Alpine Snow gives you high contrast.

Crimson and true primary reds look perfect with bright white.

If you prefer a more understated look, you can also wear a warm white like cream or ivory that works with all shades of red.

Marine.

Navy blue goes great with red for a chic and sophisticated look. If your dress is cherry red, navy is the way to go.

Beige.

Beige and red is a classic and timeless color combination.

It’s more formal than edgy. But it could be perfect for the office, a semi-formal event, or for a job interview.

Gray.

Forget fifty shades of gray – with a red dress you have hundreds to choose from!

Most grays will work with red, but keep the brightness in mind. A light gray looks better with darker reds, while a dark gray is more flattering with lighter reds.

Black.

The truth is, black will never pair well with bright reds or fire engine red. It is too much. You should only wear black if you’re wearing a deep, dark, and sexy color like burgundy, ruby, or burgundy.

Black doesn’t always work for fair skin either. If you’re ghostly pale, avoid pairing black with red.

French manicure.

Never underestimate the classic French manicure.

If you’re wearing red for a special evening, an elegant classic like this is just the ticket.

You may find that sticking to neutral colors is too boring when it comes to nail polish colors to match with red dresses.

So let’s look at some more exciting colors that you might want to try.

Bold nail colors to match a red dress

If you want to be a little bolder, try these red-meets-color combos:

mint green.

Mint green looks great with red. It’s a fresh, young and vibrant color combination.

It can be worn during the day but is also perfect for going out.

Mint green is great when you’re wearing a light tomato red or candy apple red dress – it sets beautiful accents and makes your nails stand out.

My current favorite mint is Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.

Turquoise.

Turquoise and red go together like peanut butter and jelly.

They’re both bold colors that are cheerful, youthful, and fun.

You can wear turquoise or an aqua blue-green color with any shade of red for a look that’s guaranteed to make you feel good.

If you want an exact shade, try Turned Up Turquoise by China Glaze.

canary yellow.

Light yellow nail polish goes well with most warm red tones.

But if you want maximum wow factor, try an electric yellow to stand out from the crowd!

Bold yellow nails are a great choice for summer, especially if you have a warm skin tone.

If you love bright, bold yellows, try Zoya’s Daisy, Darcy or Pippa.

Metallic paint colors that match a red dress

Metallic colors are perfect for evening looks. They make any color look more sophisticated and elegant.

If you want to add a nocturnal touch to your red dress, try one of these metallic combinations:

red and gold.

Gold and red combine to create a classic and timeless style statement.

Gold flatters pastel or candy apple reds, while also looking good with cerise.

Remember that gold looks best with warm red tones. like scarlet and cadmium red.

If you want something a little less obvious, try an antique gold hue.

red and silver.

You can wear silver nail polish with deep, cool red tones like burgundy, garnet, raspberry, reddish purple, and wine.

Silver polish looks best on cool skin tones and pairs best with cool red tones.

Red and rose gold.

Rose gold is so trendy right now!

It’s a mix of gold and copper tones that looks gorgeous with warm red tones.

If you’re wearing a cool red, you can still wear rose gold as it’s not quite as warm as yellow gold.

I’m really into Essie’s Penny Talk right now.

OPI also has a good selection of rose gold polishes.

red and bronze.

Bronze works very well with deep reds. Think burgundy, plum and wine tones.

If you’re a bit wary of a full gold look, bronze is a nice alternative that still looks great with red!

It is a good choice for autumn and winter season.

I love Zoya’s Cinnamon for a perfect bronze red combo.

Solid colors that match a red dress.

If you like to keep things simple and breezy, go for a monochromatic look.

Monochromatic color palettes work by combining different shades or tints of the same color.

A monochromatic look is a great option if you’re going for a red dress and don’t know what to do with your nails.

It’s simple, elegant and easy to peel off. All you have to do is apply some red polish and you’re good!

You can wear any shade of red you like. You can choose to go darker than your dress or lighter. Up to you.

It’s okay to be matchy-matchy when wearing red. But be careful with tones.

A warm red needs a warm polish to look its best. If you’re wearing a cool red, pair it with a cool polish.

It’s always flattering to keep your entire look cohesive. Very fashionista!

Complementary Polish colors that match a red dress

The opposite of a monochrome color palette is a complementary color palette.

That means wearing colors on opposite sides of the color wheel.

As you already know, green is the opposite of red on the color wheel, so it works particularly well.

That being said, you want to avoid anything that looks too Christmassy.

One of the most unexpected combinations is red and olive green. It may look like they’re chalk and cheese, but it actually looks awesome.

Similarly, the pairing is red and dark green or fir green. If you want to be bold with your manicure, go for it! It’s not an easy look, but it looks pretty cool when you use neutral colors to complement the rest of your outfit.

Is your dress warm or cool? How do you know?

It’s easy to get confused when it comes to color theory.

Here’s a quick and handy guide on how to find out if your dress is warm or cool:

Place the dress next to other items in your closet (or general household items) that you know are either warm or cool in color.

If your dress looks good with other warm colors like yellow and orange, chances are the dress is warm too!

If something comes off when you pair your red dress with warm colors, it can be a cool red.

Another trick you can try is to look at warm and cool shades of red online and try to match them to your dress.

It can be difficult at first to tell the difference, but it gets easier with experience.

The best way to learn is through trial and error!

Cool colors that go well with a red dress

Cool reds work well with colors that are the opposite of red on the color wheel.

This makes cool colors like blue, green and purple look particularly good with it.

You can wear a range of shades from pastel to dark depending on your preference.

Here are some cool nail polish color ideas that go well with red dresses.

Violet.

Like olive and red, purple and red are totally unexpected.

It might seem strange, but if you get the shading right, these two colors can really work.

Deep purples like eggplant look great with warm tones of red.

You can also play around with lighter, cool shades of purple like lavender.

If the purple you’re looking at looks blue rather than red, it’s probably cool.

Try pairing light purple with your red dress if you want to be daring with your polish.

Green.

Green is technically a cool color. But there are a lot of yellow-based greens, so again we need to pay attention to the undertone.

Muted or dark greens, like olive or forest green, look stunning with red.

Olive green seems like a neutral color so it’s a great color to have in your paint collection.

If you’re wearing a cool-toned dress, choose a shade that’s more on the cool side.

If you’re having trouble finding the right shade, use the clothing guide above to help you.

Blue.

Deep jewel tones are perfect for red dresses. For a bolder than bold look, try a cobalt blue.

Berry red tones look great with royal blues like midnight.

Avoid primary red and true blue together, it looks a bit preschool.

A rich, dark navy blue is the perfect complement to a red dress.

Blue green.

Teal is a blue-green shade that airs on the cool side.

This shade goes well with red dresses, especially cool tones.

Teal looks great with scarlet reds, but it also looks great with dusty roses.

This color isn’t for everyone, but if you want something different, give it a try!

Warm colors that go well with a red dress

If you’re rocking a warm-toned dress, consider one of these colors.

They harmonize with other warm tones to create a well put together look.

Here are some ideas on how to warm up your look with nail polish.

Yellow.

As you probably already know, yellow can be a tricky paint color. The trick to pairing yellow nail polish with a red dress is to use a light or light pastel yellow.

If your red is a clear true hue, avoid anything cloudy or muted and opt for the lightest option.

But if you’re wearing a softer, more muted shade of red that almost looks pink, a soft pastel yellow will go with it.

Remember that yellow is a warm colour, so avoid pairing it with the cool reds mentioned above.

Orange.

If you want to add some warmth to your red dress, orange is the way to go!

It’s one of my favorite colors on women with dark hair and medium to dark skin.

Stay away from pastel oranges like peach and coral as they collide.

Opt for bolder tones like a bright citrus orange, and if your dress is a coral red (orange-based, not pink-based coral), then opt for apricot-orange nail polish.

Prom nails for a red dress

If you’re going to wear red to prom, this section is for you!

Prom is a formal event, but it can also be an opportunity to show off your creativity and personality.

I guess you’ve already chosen your dress, haven’t you?

Then let the dress guide you in your choice of nail color.

What do I mean?

Well, let’s break it down.

Here are some things to think about.

Tips for choosing prom nails to match a red dress

First, take a few seconds to think about how you would describe your prom dress.

Is it classically elegant? fun and flirty? Minimalist and modern? Or quirky and different?

When choosing a nail color for prom, try to consider the overall look of the dress.

For example, if you are wearing an elegant, stylish, and very formal dress, you want a nail color that matches that mood.

Some great options for a more traditional, formal red dress would be navy blue, beige, gray, a French manicure with white tips, gold, silver, or rose gold.

If your dress is on the fun and flirty side, then you might want to get a little more playful with your nails.

Some great ideas for a fun flirty red prom dress would be turquoise, canary yellow, or cobalt blue. Pink nails would work too.

For a modern and minimalist look, plain nails in a neutral color like white, beige, gray, navy blue, or tan will do.

What are the undertones in your dress?

My second tip is to pay attention to the undertones in your dress. Is it a warm red or a cool red?

A quick Google search should help you tell the difference.

Once you know if the shade of red in your dress is warm or cool, a great trick is to find a nail polish (any color) that has the same undertone as your dress.

If your red prom dress is minimal, vintage, or understated, you might want to be bolder with your nail choice.

You can opt for a high contrast color or a bold metallic to complete the look.

Does pink nail polish go with a red dress?

Pink and red is a Marmite combination.

some people love it! But not so much.

The problem with pink and red is that the combination can be too cute or too playful for some people’s tastes.

Whether you want to put pink and red together is up to you. It doesn’t clash, but it doesn’t always look good either.

If you go for red and pink, remember that the darker your skin, the better this color combo looks!

If you must wear pink nail polish with your red dress, blush pink is the best way. It’s elegant, modern and romantic.

Or choose a shade that looks more neutral and less cute against your skin tone.

Does silver or gold go better with a red dress?

If you’ve been paying attention, you should already have a pretty good idea of the answer!

Gold has a yellow undertone that goes well with almost every shade of red out there.

The only exception would be dark blue reds, but even then you can still get away with wearing gold.

Silver is less versatile when it comes to red. But if your dress is a berry or plum color, silver is a good choice.

Use your dress’ undertones as a guide – silver for cool and gold for warmth and you can’t go wrong!

What color of nail polish to wear with a red dress and black shoes?

That’s a question I’m often asked. so let’s answer!

The obvious choice would be black, a soft off-white, or another neutral like gray.

But that can be a bit boring.

If you’re wearing a red dress with black shoes, try metallic nail polish. It adds extra glamor to your look.

If your dress is wine, choose gold nails. Wine red, gold and black go very well together.

Nude nail polish works well too—it’s a classic choice that goes with everything. It doesn’t fight for attention and creates a balanced look that’s understated and chic at the same time!
