Atlantic Stainless Steel Copper Finish Spillways Owner’s Manual

Atlantic spillways made of stainless steel with a copper finish

1.330.274.8317

www.ATLANTICWATERGARDENS.com

introduction

Thank you for purchasing Atlantic Stainless Steel and/or Copper Finish Overflows. Constructed from stainless steel, copper finish overflows have an additional antique copper plating over the stainless steel for a warm, traditional look.

Atlantic 304 overflows are manufactured from 304 stainless steel and are intended for freshwater use only.

Atlantic’s 316 stainless steel spillways are specifically designed to resist corrosion in chlorinated pool water, salt water and acidic environments. All 316 stainless steel overflows feature a 1/4″ connection lug for grounded pool applications.

ATTENTION

Stainless steel can corrode if not cared for properly.

316 stainless steel resists corrosion when immersed in swimming pool water as the chlorine concentration is typically low (1-5ppm). However, the frequently splashed areas above the waterline are extremely susceptible to corrosion. When the water splashing on the stainless steel evaporates, the remaining chlorine becomes highly concentrated. This deposit is very corrosive and will stain, rust, corrode and corrode stainless steel of all grades if not properly cared for. 316 Overflows used in swimming pool installations should be flushed regularly with fresh water to remove accumulated chlorine deposits.

installation

The opening in the wall where the overflow is placed is important for the overflow to function. The bottom of the overflow must be on a flat surface and fully supported along its entire length. The overflow must be level side to side and front to back to ensure proper water flow.

Installation in a 4″H x 8″W x 12″L garden wall is easy as the overflow is also 4″ tall. Simply remove the required number of bricks (one, two or three) from the top run of the garden wall and replace them with the overflow. The overflow should be positioned so that the front of the body is flush with the front of the wall and the lip protrudes 41/2″. Cut 4″ x 4″ x 12″ filler blocks to complete the wall run, if necessary, to fill the area behind the overflow and leave a 21/2″ wide opening in the center to connect the utility line. The overflow is loadable (maximum 80 lbs. per linear foot) so caps can be placed on top of the overflow to complete the installation.

Caution: Make sure you keep access to the overflow free in case future maintenance is required. Do not glue or mortar the capstones that are directly above the overflow.

Installation Requirements

304 overflows are designed for use in freshwater pond free and formal overflow applications. 316 overflows are specifically designed for use in chlorinated and saltwater pool and spa environments. Weirs are not intended for use in water gardens, ponds, or other installations containing plants or aquatic life.

Atlantic Spillways can carry 80 pounds. weight per linear foot evenly distributed over the top of the overflow. (Example: A 24-inch spillway can support 160 lbs.) If the weight of the brick and caps over the spillway exceeds the recommended weight limits, a lintel must be installed over the spillway to support the excess load.

Atlantic Spillway are designed to be easily installed in dry stack garden walls using a standard 4″H x 8″W x 12″L wall block. Although any size wall block can be used, a 4 x 8 x 12 is ideal as very little modification is required when installing the overflow.

Overflow Maximum Head Above Basin Flow Rate SS12 / CS12 / SS12-316 24” 1200 GPH SS24 / CS24 / SS24-316 30” 2400 GPH SS36 / CS36 / SS36-316 36” 3600 GPH

Plumbing the overflow

Weirs have a 1½” female threaded inlet located in the center rear of the unit.

Connect the lines with your choice of 1½” male thread connector (not included).

Apply thread sealant or silicone to the threads of the male thread. Screw the fitting into the inlet by hand until snug and lock with a 1/2 turn with a wrench. Connect the water line from the pump to the overflow. A minimum 1½ inch ID hose is required for optimal water flow. When piping multiple overflows from a pump, run a main feed line along the back of the wall and up to the single overflow. When installing multiple units, it is best to install a ball valve in each line feeding the overflow for better flow control. When operating more than one overflow, the main feed line should be increased to at least 2 inches.

If you are installing the overflow in conjunction with an Atlantic CFBASINKIT, refer to the install/installation instructions included with the cymbal kit for more information.

maintenance

Atlantic Spillways are one-piece, enclosed units with internal baffles to distribute water flow. When large debris that enters the spillway becomes lodged, it is difficult to remove. Therefore, make sure that coarse dirt in the water is filtered out before you reach the overflow. Atlantic Spillways will not corrode when used in fresh water, however regular cleaning may be required depending on water conditions. Brushed stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with 3M Stainless Steel Cleaner (available at any home center) and a soft cloth. Copper plated overflows can be cleaned with any non-abrasive detergent and a soft cloth. 316 Overflows used in swimming pool installations should be flushed regularly with fresh water to remove accumulated chlorine deposits. See Introduction for more details.

wintering

Atlantic Spillways are self draining for easy winter storage. When the pump is switched off, the water in the overflow flows back through the supply line. Make sure the supply line is completely drained. Remove the pump and store it indoors for the winter. If the overflow is installed with an Atlantic CFBASINKIT, please refer to the cymbal kit instructions for proper winterization of the cymbal.

warranty

Spills are guaranteed for three years. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser from the date of the original sales receipt. The warranty is void if this product is used under conditions other than those specified. This warranty excludes labour/labor charges for removal or installation of products.
