Classic party games for 10-14 year olds

1. Hanging Donuts Game

I had completely forgotten about this game until I went to a Halloween party at a friend’s house. It was so much fun that even the adults insisted on taking their turn! To play, tie a piece of rope between two trees or poles above head height. Thread a piece of ribbon through the hole in each donut, then tie the ribbon to the rope so the donut hangs just above your mouth. At a starting signal, each player tries to eat their donut – hands are not allowed!

2. The Chocolate Game

The guests sit in a circle on the floor and take turns throwing two dice, which are passed around the circle in a clockwise direction. When a child rolls a double number, they don two or three disguises (e.g. hat and scarf or coat and boots) and then use a knife and fork to cut and eat individual squares from a family-sized block of chocolate. They keep slicing and eating until the next player rolls a double. The key is to move the cubes as quickly as possible so that the person eating the chocolate changes regularly.

3. Cookie Face

Each player puts a small cookie (e.g. an Oreo) on their forehead and only has to try to move the cookie into their mouth with their facial expressions.

4. Egg toss

It’s way more fun when your eggs aren’t cooked – especially for tweens and teens! Just take it outside! You need one egg per pair.

Pair up players and have them toss an egg back and forth at each other. Every time both kids catch it, they have to take a step back and keep going. The team that can catch their eggs farthest apart wins!

Freeze day 5

One player is chosen as “It”. It chases the other players and if he/she tags a player, that person must freeze and stay frozen until another untagged player tags them to untag them again, then they can rejoin the game. The game is played until all players are frozen, and then a new It is chosen for the next round.

To make the game even more fun, you need to shout the name of a TV show when unfreezing a starred player. If you bring up the name of a show you’ve already used, you and the frozen player will now be frozen together and must stay frozen until another player is free to save you!

6. Balloon Stomp

Have guests remove their shoes before playing. Each player needs an inflated balloon attached to a short piece of string and then tied around an ankle. Along the way, players try to stomp on (and pop) each of the other balloons while trying to protect their own – hands are not allowed! The last person with an inflated balloon attached to their ankle wins.

7. Limbo

You need a broomstick for a limbo stick and your favorite music for a classic limbo game! Hold the bar horizontal to the floor (you will need one person at each end) at about chest height. Players line up and take turns dancing under the levitation bar without bumping or touching it – if you touch it, you’re out. Players must lean backwards, not forwards, when passing under the bar. Once all players are through, the pole is dropped approximately 1 inch and players must again pass under the pole without touching it. The last player dancing is the winner.

8. Roll out a sundae

My 11 year old and her friends had a blast with this at a recent sleepover. You have to choose six different sundae toppings – things like whipped cream, chocolate or strawberry topping, marshmallows, sour worms, sprinkles, mini M&Ms, etc. – and you need a bowl of ice cream for each person and a cube. Before you begin, assign each topping a die number, then the children take turns rolling the dice and placing the rolled topping on their sundae. You can go around and add toppings for as many rounds as you like. Then food is announced!

9. Wink Assassin

Everyone sits in a circle. One person is nominated as It and leaves the circle while everyone else decides who will be the “killer”. “It” is recalled to stand in circles. The “killer” winks at one person in the circle at a time (trying to do it without seeing “it”). When someone has been winked at, they pretend to die dramatically! “It” must try to find out who the killer is. Once they guess, the killer becomes the next “it” and the game starts over.

10. Name that tune!

Before the party, make a playlist of your tween’s/teen’s favorite songs and some other popular tunes. Divide the players into groups of two or three. You can play sports, have spa time, spend a day at the pool and other enjoyable activities during your stay. Teenagers appreciate a hotel stay that gives them some independence and the opportunity to spend the day with friends. But if possible you might also want to book a room close to their room to get help if needed.

Expect to pay at least $200 depending on the hotel. Ask the hotel staff to stop room service to better control your budget. You can explain this rule to all guests to meet their expectations. Keep in mind that hotels usually have a maximum limit on the number of guests that can stay in a room. In this case, invite only a few to keep the party intimate and the group small.

28th Tea Party

If their birthday falls in the winter, they can invite friends over for a tea party for everyone to enjoy. There are also party organizers where you can book a tea party. You can prepare everything necessary, including organizing a restaurant or cafe where it will take place.

29. Dinner party

Host a DIY color party at home!

Do you want to host a painting party at home?

The trend of drawing and sipping your favorite fizzy drink is still going strong and I love every bit of it!

Visiting a painting studio is great fun and I strongly encourage you to support your local studio if you have never had this experience before!

The atmosphere is very relaxing, the teachers are funny and skilled at guiding you through the process of painting a beautiful masterpiece. And best of all: Anyone who has never picked up a brush can be proud!

In contrast, having a paint party at home has its perks too!

The biggest difference between a home and a studio is that you have more time and flexibility to plan things out and it can be cheaper than going to a studio.

In this guide I will describe some recommended materials suitable for a painting party. I will also share with you some hints and tips that I have learned that may be helpful to you.

For example: 6 easels fit on a 5″ x 3″ dining table. Depending on the number of guests, you may need to rearrange your space to accommodate additional tables. Put tablecloths on the tables and set up the easels and the canvases. Place brushes, palettes, water cups, and paper towels in front of each easel. Make sure each easel has the correct size brush needed for the painting. Set up a lesson area (if you are conducting the lesson). First things first… supplies!

You’ll need the obvious: paint, brushes, canvases, and maybe easels (if you want to make that painting party legit)!

Craft paint works well on canvas and is easy on the budget! Most craft paints are acrylic paints (unless otherwise noted).

I love using Apple Barrel paints for paint parties and they are readily available on Walmart and Amazon!

If you want to use higher quality paints, perhaps because you are only painting with a small group, then opt for student paints at Michael’s such as Liquitex BASICS, Artist’s Loft or DecoArt Americana.

My Craft Paint Picks:

My color choices for students:

I LOVE DecoArt Americana Premium! It’s surprisingly lively, flows nicely and is fairly cheap. You can find these at Michaels and Amazon!

Artist Loft is a decent student quality acrylic paint. We actually pick these up around the holidays when Michael has them on sale.

Liquitex BASICS is my favorite brand of student quality acrylic paint! I used these (almost) exclusively for my tutorials. You can find these at Michaels and Amazon. It is slightly more expensive than the first level Artist Loft, but the quality is better.

How much paint should I take?

I use the formula 0.2 ounces per color per painter. The 2 ounce bottles of craft paints can (in my experience) be used for up to 8 people.

BUT if there is a lot of one color I just buy an extra bottle or tube of that color.

White is usually a base color for my tutorials, so I always make sure I have more of that color.

Which brushes should I get?

This always gets a bit tricky because it depends on what you’re painting and most brush packs come with a random selection of sizes.

You could buy a few different packs and improvise with brushes that are similar in size to the tutorial you’re using.

I find that Amazon.com has several bulk brush sets.

Here’s one that’s “relatively” the most common brush sizes you might need:

The Royal Big Kids Choice Brushes say they’re for kids, but they can be for adults (big kids) too!

They come in fun colors for each size, so you can tell your guests what color brush to use and they have a firm grip.

Individual brush selection:

You could benefit from buying individual brushes rather than buying a large selection pack that doesn’t have the sizes you need.

Here are economical single brushes that I would recommend for a paint party, based on the most commonly used brush types:

What canvases do I get?

It’s up to you which size you take! The standard size of the nighttime painting canvas you would typically use in a studio is 16″ x 20″.

I prefer the 11″ x 14″ or 12″ x 16″ size at home. Smaller canvases take up less space on your dining table.

But the choice is yours!

Tip: If you paint with children, be sure to use smaller canvases. 8×10, 11×14, or 12×16 are good sizes.

Should I get easels?

Easels give your painting the best perspective to work with. Plus they save space!

I can easily fit six painters at my small dining table if they all have easels!

When you buy easels online, pay attention to the size in the description. Many of them look larger in the picture but are only about 12″ tall and cannot support a 16 x 20 canvas.

What should we use for pallets?

I use paper plate pallets because I don’t like cleaning them afterwards.

I also recently discovered that using these little paper medicine cups is a brilliant idea! You can put your individual paint colors in each of the cups!

If you’re interested in pallets in multiple packs, I’ve listed a few below.

Shall we get aprons?

You can have a painting party without aprons.

However, everyone asks for these at painting parties for fear of paint staining their clothes.

You can buy relatively inexpensive sets of aprons on Amazon.

I found this adorable Paint & Sip apron from MeAnWe Wares!

Graphite paper is a very small investment, it can just be cut to size and reused almost indefinitely.

Many coloring tutorials online come with a traceability sheet that you can print out and give out to your coloring party.

Or better yet… trace the design on each canvas and you can skip the part where they have to trace their own!

Just place a piece of graphite paper under the printout and it will transfer to the canvas.

Don’t forget water to rinse out your colors in between! I usually use disposable plastic cups or old Tupperware.

Decorations and props are fun, but don’t overload your table because you’ll need all the space for art supplies!

Also, I recommend you buy plastic tablecloths to protect all your tables!

There are many resources online (like this website…go to my homepage to see all my tutorials) but there are also some lovely books on Amazon on how to plan a paint party!

You have your supplies now, how do you teach painting?

That’s up to you!

If you are the host, you can be the one who first learns the painting and then teaches it to the crowd in the same way that the teacher teaches painting in a studio (step by step, line by line).

You can also set up your TV to “broadcast” a painting instruction video so you can sit down and paint with everyone.

Another way to do this is to print out the instructions and hand them out to the crowd (or between two people so they can share the instructions). I actually have a few tutorials in my ebook shop where I sell printer friendly guides!

I personally like to be the teacher when I host my painting parties at home because I love being the teacher!

If you do it this way, take some time before the party and take a test picture.

If you are going to be teaching the steps during the party, just take your phone to my website and use my instructions to teach the class (I use my website for my own notes to teach my classes as I don’t either remember all the steps! ).

Any other tips?

Timed coordination!

These pictures last longer than you think.

And when you socialize, it takes even longer. Make sure you start your party at a reasonable time (before 7pm is my recommendation) so your guests don’t get too tired to paint after two hours.

Clean those brushes!

Keep your brushes in good shape after the party!

Make sure you rinse them well before paint dries on them. Use a mild soap or brush cleaner like my favorite General Pencil brush cleaner!

A quick note on traceables

If you have traceability, pre-trace the canvases! It makes things run so much smoother. And often tracing with a marker makes it easier to see! If you trace the outline with a felt-tip pen, your guests can still see the drawing through the first and sometimes the second layer of paint.

However, sometimes painting requires you to paint the background first and then trace the design. If you have your guests trace their designs, make sure they lay their canvas flat and press firmly as they trace. It is very difficult to track your traceability with the painting on the easel.

dry season

Acrylic paint dries quickly. However, if the paint is applied too thickly, it will take longer to dry.

Plan to have a blow dryer available so your guests can quickly dry their paintings between steps or to ensure their paintings are dry enough to take home.

To snack or not to snack, that is the question.

You’re definitely welcome to bring something to munch on while you let your creativity run wild.

While no one can really say for sure what you should or shouldn’t bring with you during your painting session, we’ve put together some recommendations to give you some ideas.

First, there are a few things you should know about our studio layout that may influence your decision. We have a long table in our lounge area stocked with bottled water and everything you need for a great cup of coffee. We provide cups, napkins, small plates and plastic cutlery which you are welcome to bring or bring your own. There is also some space where you are welcome to place your plates and bowls of treats to save space at your painting station. At your painting station you have 2 color palettes, brushes, a cup of water to rinse with and a canvas on an easel and paper towels and most likely have other painters on either side of you. With all this, you can see how it can get a little crowded. Realistically, you’ll probably fit a glass of something to drink and a small plate of snacks, but 4-course meals and large plates probably won’t easily fit in there, just to say the least.

Here are some popular things we’ve seen people bring to snack on that work pretty well:

Crackers and cheese finger sandwiches Vegetables and hummus/dip Pretzels/chips Fruit (grape/berry/apple/banana) Granola or protein bars Cookies or brownies Candy Pizza or takeout (like a Chick-Fil-A-Nugget Platter)

For private parties, feel free to bring more elaborate items such as crockpots with chicken wings and meatballs, salads, trays of food, large birthday cakes, etc. Since you have the whole place to yourself, it’s easy to accommodate things like this in a private party setting.

Why paint and slurp? Up until a few months ago, Lily Lopez didn’t think she had an artistic bone in her body. “I never thought I could paint! I was really bad at drawing, I couldn’t even draw a straight line,” says Lopez, a 37-year-old manager at an accounting firm in Melbourne. In the following, a teenager, her mother and an expert discuss the subject of teenage parties.

I’m a sophomore in high school and parties are popular with my friends. When I hear about a party, I’m not drawn to the potential alcohol or drug use that might occur. I love the idea of ​​spending time with my friends. I don’t drink or do drugs, and I don’t feel pressured to do so. I find my own ways to have fun. My friends and I like going to parties to socialize, meet new people, make friends, dance and have a good time.

However, my parents are very concerned that I attend parties where alcohol or drugs may be present.

I want them to trust that I’m doing the right thing.

Teenagers will find a way to attend a party, whether they’re allowed to go or not. I know kids who lied and used elaborate schemes to keep the party a secret instead of listening to their parents. It becomes a battle between the parents and the child over who can get their way.

This type of conflict can slowly create an unconscious rift in family relationships. While it might seem like a bit of a struggle now, the teen is likely to keep getting more and more invitations to parties that he has to turn down and get mad about. I had such disagreements with my parents. I don’t want to lie to my parents. I would like to have an open communication with them to go.

I told them I will follow their guidelines.

In fact, this constant struggle can be prevented if they give me permission to attend parties with set rules for the activity. If they’re reasonable, I’m more likely to follow the rules. If they feel their rules aren’t being followed, I think my parents can say no and even punish them.

It’s a blessing to be able to go to a party and not have to lie about it. Getting my parents’ permission to attend a fun event with my friends shows that they trust me and believe I have good judgment. In a way, I behave more because I want to prove my integrity. Strict but fair rules of conduct expected at such parties are one way to keep both parent and child happy.

Some people I know who have attended parties against their parents’ wishes or without their parents’ knowledge have found themselves in awkward and unsafe situations.

These friends felt that they could not ask their parents for help right now because they would get into trouble. It’s as if the fear of getting into trouble and facing consequences and shame at home is worse than the threat of an unsettling or dangerous situation at the party.

Parents who communicate expectations but allow their child to go to a party give their teen the freedom and opportunity to demonstrate responsibility. Most importantly, it allows the teen to turn to the parents when needed and keep the relationship strong. My parents and I want to agree on that.

As a teenager in Scottsdale, Arizona in the 1980s, I was part of a smart, fun group of friends. These were honor lists, student leader types who regularly got into trouble for cutting classes, playing pranks, entering pools at local resorts, and drinking almost every weekend. I don’t recall any of my friends having a curfew or other real restrictions during that pre-cell era. Our parents only expected us to fulfill our responsibilities and didn’t ask many questions.

Now, as a mother, I understand how I would have benefited from more supervision when I was young.

Honestly, the fact that I’ve never gotten myself into lasting trouble feels like luck. My three teenagers are working harder on their school, athletic and athletic activities than I have ever done. They manage schedules that don’t leave much time for sleep, let alone mischief. They are good kids and I trust them. But my husband and I still don’t want them going to parties where alcohol and drugs are likely to be present. This attitude has led to conflict, especially with our gregarious youngest daughter.

Research shows that alcohol consumption among teenagers is down compared to a decade ago.

A lot of teenagers attend parties without drinking, and my kids swear they’re among those who feel comfortable saying no. Of course I believe them, but underage drinking and drug use is still illegal. I don’t want my children to spend time in environments where the use of illegal substances is normal or where temptation or peer pressure could override their common sense. I don’t want to convey the message that teenage drinking is okay.

Early substance use is associated with higher rates of addiction later in life. The longer teens wait to try alcohol and drugs, the better it is for their developing brains. I know I can’t protect my children forever. Soon they will go to college and be free to experiment as they please. But they will also be more mature by this point.

Now, by discouraging drug use and not condoning the party scene, I feel like I’m making good decisions, even if my kids find it frustrating.

Some parents are more pragmatic. They believe their kids will find a way to attend these parties no matter what. I know parents who drive their young teens to these events or give their kids unlimited access to Uber so they can “safely” indulge in the fun. This is your choice. But it’s a decision that makes my job as a mom more difficult, especially when they transport my kids to parties without my knowledge or consent, which has happened several times.

Perhaps the hardest thing for my children to grasp is that attending a large party where others are impaired puts them at risk. This happens regardless of their own decisions. Here in Seattle, teenagers are using social media to plan what they call “spodies.” High school kids from across the city gather in unlit public parks hidden from the eyes of adults.

Although I trust my children, I don’t trust teenagers I don’t know. Drug use can fuel unplanned or risky sexual activity, sexual harassment and assault, violence and accidents. Plus, a one-off mistake made at a party today can be documented on social media, leading to lasting embarrassment or more serious repercussions for things like college admissions.

I tell my kids that finding alternative social activities is the safest thing to do. My husband and I have tried to counteract the party scene by making our home an attractive place to hang out, with lots of games, movies, and snacks.

I can understand how eager Makeda is to spend time with her friends. It can be socially difficult to turn down gatherings. But as a pediatrician and mother of three, I’ve seen firsthand the tragic consequences of unsupervised teenage parties.

It’s important to know the facts about underage drinking. Teens (like Makeda) whose parents talk to them about drugs and alcohol are 42 percent less likely to use substances than those whose parents don’t. Parents should remind teenagers that underage drinking is illegal and that they expect them not to use alcohol or drugs. Mention (like Sharon) that your concern includes the actions of other teenagers that may have negative repercussions or consequences at an unsupervised party. Teens are more likely to have sex, suffer an accidental injury or overdose, or engage in violence when alcohol and drugs are involved.

I support Sharon’s reluctance to let Makeda attend these parties, even if Makeda doesn’t drink. At this stage of development, it is crucial to take the role of parent seriously and not that of a friend. I know this can be difficult for parents, but hopefully your child will thank you later.

That’s not the case here, but it should go without saying that parents shouldn’t get carried away with consenting to, or even host, underage drinking because they believe that no matter what you say, teenagers will find a way to drink . Instead, let your teen know that you’re all about having fun and hanging out with their friends, but in a responsible and safe environment. (Sharon’s goal of making her house the hangout is great.)

If there’s a party

When it comes to parties outside the home, here are six important tips to keep in mind:

1. Find out where the party is located.

It’s amazing how quickly party locations seem to change. Make sure your teen knows they need to get in touch with you before moving.

2. Ask if there is a guest list.

Parties can quickly get out of hand when the party is open rather than invitation only.

3. Call the parents beforehand.

Make sure there is supervision and that no alcohol is being served and that other drugs/smoking are not allowed. Check if your teen’s phone is charged. You want to make sure they can reach you and you can reach them when needed.

4. Talk to your teen beforehand.

Discuss how you can handle situations in which they may not be comfortable. Make sure they understand that if anything unexpected happens they should call you and you will come and pick them up. While risky behavior should be discussed later, the teen should know that if they ask for help, they will not be punished.

5. Before the party, make sure your child drives home safely.

Always remind them to never get in the car with a teen who has been drinking or using illegal drugs.

6. Be awake when your teen comes home.

Wait for them and chat about the event to make sure they follow the set rules and curfew.

Never underestimate how a good and successful party can suddenly turn into a disaster just because it lasted 30 minutes longer than it should have been.

Age matters!

Think about the thresholds of children by age and work of them. The younger they are, the more likely they are to get tired and over-excited if the party gets too long, regardless of the variety of activities you have carefully planned for them.

Parents of high schoolers worry about the parties their kids attend, and rightly so. Alcohol and drug use can occur at unsupervised parties; drunk teenagers can get behind the wheel and endanger their lives, those of their passengers and innocent drivers; and alcohol intoxication, sexual assault, or arrest are glaring possibilities when minors drink too much.

However, the image of a crazy high school party where the parents are on vacation and the whole school shows up for beers is a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, the occasional partying is approaching runaway levels, but the majority of parties are smaller affairs, attracting no more than a few dozen kids, and may even be thrown with the blessing of parents who believe teens are safer if they drink in a supervised environment.

Just because a party is smaller doesn’t mean it’s less risky for those who attend. Kids have more drinking space and often rely on their own alcohol — including the harder stuff — rather than waiting in a keg line to get a beer. The fewer people there are at a party, the greater the chance for teenagers to find a secluded place to do drugs. And the one thing that often breaks up larger parties before they become more dangerous — the police — might not matter at a smaller party where kids can limit the noise to a muffled roar.

So what really happens at high school parties? They’re not much different from when today’s parents were teenagers themselves — although that may not be much of a consolation to many of you. Most importantly, take an active interest in where your children go, whether a party is supervised, and establish firm rules that prohibit alcohol or drugs.

Teen Alcohol Statistics

According to the University of Michigan’s 2016 Monitoring the Future study, 19.9 percent of 10th graders and nearly a third of 12th graders reported drinking alcohol in the month prior to the survey. Although these numbers continue to decline—in 1991 the percentages were a staggering 42.8 and 54.0 for grades 10 and 12, respectively—too many children still drink and may get in cars. The number of drunk students in 10th and 12th grades fell to 9.0 and 20.4 percent, respectively, but remains a concern. Take any five high school seniors — one of them has been drunk on average in the last month, maybe at a party. That’s scary, especially if you’re worried it’s your child.

Teen Marijuana Stats

Pot is more commonly smoked at high school parties simply because there are few other opportunities for teens to do so. In fact, in the same Michigan survey, marijuana use for 12th graders increased from 21.3 percent to 22.5 percent in 2016. And the numbers are far worse than they were 25 years ago, nearly doubling in that time. If you don’t remember seeing a lot of marijuana smoked at parties when you were growing up, you know times have changed on that front.

Dangerous behavior at parties

Big or small, supervised or unsupervised, school parties involving drugs and alcohol can be dangerous. For starters, drinking games (beer pong, quarters, etc.) can get teens drunk quickly. Inexperienced drinkers may not know when to stop, and consequences range from obvious vomiting and fainting to more serious alcohol poisoning.

Second, sexual assault at drug and alcohol parties is a big issue. Disabled teenagers may be taken advantage of and unable to fight back; Also, their cries for help may not be heard. Your drunk “friends” may become more aggressive and make poor decisions (eg, not believing when a person says “no”).

Third, alcohol lowers inhibitions and leads to wrong decisions (not just sexually). Brawling, accepting challenges, drinking more or trying a stupid stunt, or, most troubling, driving with a disability — or passengers not realizing the driver is disabled — are not just stupid decisions, they are unsafe behaviors .

Offer a ride home

Even the best teenagers can end up at parties where alcohol and drugs are present. These same teenagers may not drink or smoke but are affected by the poor choices made by others. When faced with a dangerous situation, you want your kids to call you for help, even if they’ve been drinking. Therefore make this deal with your kids: if they need a ride because they are disabled, their ride is impaired or just because they want to go and none of their friends want to go, they can call you and you will pick them up, none Questions asked until the next morning. Consequences from you may be imminent, but they don’t have to be immediate—better to bite your lip on the drive home than to visit your child in the emergency room, police station, or morgue.

Unattended high school parties are an obvious problem, as are attended parties where parents allow attendees to drink. How to make a teenager’s birthday special

We all love to feel special and to be pampered. There are some who say they don’t need it but have the biggest smiles on their faces when you do something cute for them.

If you are throwing a party on another day, make the actual birthday special with small things too.

I know these ideas may sound baby-ish to some, but hey, I would love it if someone did these for me!

1. Special breakfast

Who wouldn’t like to be woken up by delicious aromas coming from the kitchen.

And as you know, teenagers love to eat. I heard teens can empty the fridge in seconds.

Maybe food isn’t in the 5 love languages, but having a special breakfast waiting for you definitely makes you feel loved.

So start the birthday by making your teen’s favorite breakfast and serving it on the patio… well, if it’s not warm outside, then serve breakfast inside, but you already knew that.

Maybe your mornings are hectic and you might even be out the door before your teen enters the kitchen. These ideas would still be feasible:

a birthday sign (a small sign attached to a dowel or chopstick). Stick it in the vase with the flower or put it in a candy-filled little bucket you can get at Walmart or Party City.

2. Something new

Your teen will love having something new for the day.

Shop or ask your teen to pick a new shirt or an entire outfit for their birthday. Get it ready to wear on birthday.

3. “Stepping stones”

I don’t know what these might be called, but I’ll call them stepping stones for now. Cut out shapes or pictures and stick them on the floor leading from the bedroom to the kitchen or other room.

Maybe your tough guy won’t be into that thing, but who knows, maybe inside he’s thinking, “Mom, you’re so weird but I love you.”

4. Hanging surprises

Blow up balloons and hang them from the ceiling. Make a group or arrange to take the birthday star to the special breakfast.

Write letters on the balloons to spell “Happy Birthday” or write numbers and sweet notes.

5. School day surprises

If it’s a school day, pack a special lunch with a cute or funny birthday note.

Wrap a candy bar with a Happy Birthday wrapper.

Place a toothpick with a birthday flag in a sandwich.

Use fun packaging for a cupcake.

When you pick up your child from school, play their favorite music or radio station in the car. Stop to get hot chocolate, iced tea or similar.

6th birthday dinner

The day started with a special breakfast and ended with a delicious dinner.

Decorate the birthday star’s dining room or chair.

Invite your teen’s best friend over for dinner.

Make your teen’s favorite meal…or make it simple and serve popcorn, pizza, ice cream, donuts…

Make a fun popcorn mix with her favorite color of popcorn and M&Ms

Tell stories from the past and listen to your teenager’s favorite music.

Watching a movie together over dinner… Sometimes we’re just too exhausted when evening comes and dinner sounds great in front of the screen. You are together and celebrating!

Who is responsible for the youth room? This question has divided parents and teenagers dating back to the Stone Age, when the first cave teenager was reprimanded for always leaving his bear and bison skins on the ground.

Let’s hear from both sides. Teens will insist it’s their room and they should be able to do whatever they want in it. If that means leaving a trail of trash, clothes, and magazines on the floor, that’s up to you.

Parents will reply that it may be the teenager’s room, but this is their house and what they say stands. What follows is a trade-off: let your offspring keep their room as messy as they like, as long as you don’t have to call the health department.
