Takes forever to heat up

Slimpicker said welcome please describe what do you mean by buy ‘forever’ and you ‘think’ you have a pro 22?

If so, don’t they only go up to 400° anyway?

My point is that if you only claim 350° with the Traeger probe, you could very well get 400° unless you prove it with a third party temp probe

Traeger’s built-in probe is not reliable, especially in the Pro22 Click to expand…

I’m pretty sure it’s a PRO22 but it doesn’t have any markings on it. It says it can heat up to 450, but I’ve never seen it get past 400. And it could take an hour to get over 350. It’s about 2x years old and I recently cleaned it. I’ve never checked the thermometer, I’ll try that. But it takes a really long time to get hot enough to cook.

Traeger grill slow to heat up? Try these tips

A slow-starting grill can be devastating for any type of family gathering.

You don’t want to be the one who invites everyone in only to find out your grill isn’t working.

If this is the case, the entire event could be ruined and you may feel very embarrassed and unable to explain how this happened.

Fortunately, we have the answers on what to do if your Traeger grill is slow to heat up.

Traeger Grill is heating up slowly

One of the most common reasons your Traeger grill is slow to heat up is that it has old or poor quality pellets in it.

If you’re not looking for pellets that make sense for the grill you’re using, you may find yourself in a situation where your grill’s temperature just isn’t reaching the levels you need.

The grill’s flame can die out too quickly if you don’t have great pellets in it.

You can work to improve this situation by purchasing better quality pellets for your grill. Otherwise, you may end up encountering the problem over and over again.

Why does it take a long time to heat up a Traeger?

The simple answer is that it shouldn’t be.

If your Traeger grill is taking a long time to heat up, there is most likely something wrong with the grill.

You need to get on that grill right away and see what steps you can take to improve the situation.

People who suffer from a Traeger grill that doesn’t do what they want it to do will likely have a hard time convincing people to come over to their grill.

Some of the steps you can take include:

Checking the level of pellets in the storage tank

Check the quality of the pellets to make sure they are holding up

Remove and/or replace pellets that do not appear to meet the quality standards you have set for them

You don’t always want to assume it’s just the pellets, but they are often a leading indicator of problems with your grill.

If you are not using the type of pellets intended for your grill, you run the risk of the grill not performing as intended.

How do I increase the heat in my Traeger faster?

If you are looking to increase the heating rate on your Traeger, the first place to start is to check the RTD sensor.

This probe is an important part of your Traeger grill’s infrastructure and you don’t want to overlook it when it comes to maintaining your grill.

It can help you get the grill up to the heat output and speed you need.

If the probe is dirty or otherwise struggling to function as it should, you should use some Traeger degreaser to clean it.

Removing grease and other particles from the probe can help you get the most out of the grill itself.

Should I add more pellets to increase the heat faster?

Probably yes.

This depends on how many pellets you already have in it and the quality of those pellets.

The grill won’t heat up because you’re using the wrong pellets?

It’s having problems because you didn’t distribute the pellets on the grill as intended?

Either could be a problem resulting in you not getting the quality out of your grill that you were hoping for.

If you find that your Traeger grill is not heating up as quickly or as effectively as it should, then you need to try adding more pellets to help it heat up faster.

You should aim to get the Traeger branded pellets if possible.

Finally, you definitely want to use branded pellets to get the highest efficiency from the pellets you use.

How long does it usually take for a carrier to heat up?

The approximate heat-up time of a properly working Traeger is about 15 minutes.

If you find that your Traeger is taking longer, there may be a problem with your grill.

There are many steps you can take to try and change this, but you should make sure it really is a problem with your Traeger that is giving you all these problems.

Sometimes human errors are made that can contribute to the problem.

Just look at everything a few times to make sure you’re not doing anything yourself to make the problem worse.

Traeger grills are built to last, and you should get a lot of life out of them.

Conclusion

The Traeger grill is a powerful machine that should be given its due respect.

The people who put their blood, sweat and tears into this machine have done a lot to ensure that it is fully functional and up to date for you.

Make sure you take proper care of your Traeger grill and it will take care of you.

If you feel that you are doing everything in your power to maintain your Traeger grill, then you should check out some of the possible troubleshooting solutions listed above.

Why Is My Pellet Grill Not Heating Up? (4 Main Reasons)

A pellet grill requires electricity to power the digital display and turn the auger to feed wood pellets into the fire pit. However, the heat of a pellet grill is actually generated by the burning of the wood pellets, facilitated by the heater fans that add oxygen to the flames to maintain your desired temperature.

If any part of this process is interrupted, your pellet grill will stop producing heat and begin to cool down or not heat up at all! This process is the same no matter what pellet grill you use, whether it’s a Pit Boss, Traeger Grill, Camp Chef, or a portable pellet grill.

It’s important to note that pellet grills work to maintain an “average” temperature rather than an exact temperature, so slight variations in temperature are normal
