In the Old Testament tabernacle (a movable tent that housed the presence of God), the objects within became more precious as the areas became more sacred.
In the outer courtyard the objects were made of bronze. But in the holy place were the objects of gold, like the golden lampstand and the altar of incense. In the innermost area – the Holy of Holies, where they encountered God – the objects were made of gold or overlaid with gold.
Imagine being in there – surrounded by shiny gold all around! It really would have made a great impression and symbolized God’s glory.

In a dream, the positive presence of gold means that God is in the thing that the symbol represents: God is its source. For example:

Gold dresses could be our divine calling.
Physical gold or coins could represent God-given financial provision and blessings.

DREAM INTERPRETATION EXPLANATION I dreamed that I was getting ready to go out. I saw some shoes that weren’t mine. I walked down the corridor and then found my gold sandals. This was at a time when I was searching for what to do next. I shouldn’t take the first option that comes my way, but go a little further and I would find my God-given path. Shoes are something we do (step into). Gold represented a God-given opportunity – but I had to walk past the first one to find it. I dreamed I was trying to come home to my friend Jo’s wedding. I found the invitation hidden between a stack of cards. I decided to wear my new gold dress. This was a different time as I searched for my God-given destiny for the next season. The dream alerted me that I would find it by reviewing my previous dreams. Coming home meant finding my destiny. Jo is a well-known dream symbol of mine and the meaning comes from Joseph who was an interpreter of dreams in the Bible. Just before I woke up I dreamed I saw a light on my bedside table and a gold pen next to it. This was a calling dream: I had God’s anointing to start writing about dreams. The gold indicated that God was in my idea to start writing – hence this blog! My friend dreamed that she put a lot of paper through the laminator and it came out golden. This was during a difficult busy time as she learned to depend on God for help. It was an encouragement that God was working in her life through it. The laminator represented the trial she was going through and the gold was the divine faith and character that developed as she trusted that God would help her.
Negative meaning of gold: idols
Gold can also appear in a negative context. The context and atmosphere of the dream would provide clues about this. The negative meaning of a dream symbol is usually the opposite of the positive one; in this case the opposite of god is a false god, in other words, an idol.

This doesn’t have to be a literal gold statue like in biblical times! Some of the things mentioned above, like wealth and money, can be idols. Any source of supply or idea that we seek outside of God can be an idol.
Whenever we look to anything other than God as our source, that thing has become an idol.
Therefore, gold can be a helpful clue that we are relying on something other than God—and that’s ultimately what we need to know. The main point about false gods in the Bible is that they have no power to help in the long run. They are not the true God – who is our Source and Provider.

DREAM INTERPRETATION EXPLANATION I dreamed that I was sitting and looking at a huge golden palace. I tried to get there but lost my coat and just got farther from where I needed to be. That told me that a great idea I had to make money might not be the best thing for me. I thought this idea was from God, but it wasn’t. It was an idol. The dream became more and more frustrating, suggesting that this was a negative context of gold. I dreamed that I bought a book from a man named Golding, but the pages turned into nonsense like the kind you find in spam email. My friend said I should get rid of the book. This was at the same time as the previous dream and was about the same subject. I had had a wrong idea, thinking it came from God, but it was nonsense. I should throw it away! The surname Golding was a pun on gold. The advice to get rid of the book suggested that this was a negative context.
Conclusion
In a positive context, gold can represent God’s presence – and any blessings that come from God’s work in our lives: wealth, provision, good character, etc. In a negative context, gold can represent idols and anything that takes the place of God’s best for our life.

Exploring Specific Dream Scenarios These wild times have resulted in a long list of wild dreams, ranging from scary to sweet to violent. Below we go over the most common ones. If It’s a Long-Term Ex “Dreaming of a long-term ex–especially first love–is incredibly common,” says Loewenberg. “This ex becomes a symbol of passion, unbridled desire, unabashed love, etc.” These dreams are your subconscious’s way of telling you that you want more ~spice~ in your life. When it comes to a recent ex, it seems like your subconscious is trying to sabotage all the hard work you put in in your waking hours to get over that person. On the contrary, Loewenberg says, “Your subconscious is actually trying to help you heal and process how you’re feeling about the breakup.” If You’ve Been Abusive To dream of an abusive or toxic ex (think: physical or mental abusive, serial cheaters, etc.) is a very common trauma response, says Malina. According to Loewenberg, if you’re dreaming about an abusive ex, it’s probably because in your waking hours you’re still trying to find a W-H-Y behind what happened. If during waking hours you are “beating yourself up” about that past relationship, the dream could symbolize the abuse you are now subjecting yourself to by rumination. When someone confronts the other about past mistakes “When you have a dream in which you confront someone, you are confronting the part of you that was hurt by that person,” says Loewenberg. “It’s your way of slowly coming to terms with how you were hurt.” If you’re getting babes back together, it’s time to look deep and consider whether or not you would actually get back with an ex, should they cringe . If you want, it’s time to remember why you broke up in the first place. They were probably damn good reasons! (This is where a therapist or protective BFF can be very helpful). However, if you have ZERO interest in that ex in your waking hours, the dream is a sign that you have made peace with the relationship and learned the lessons you had to learn from it. Exciting! When you fall in love again, says Loewenberg, it indicates that you long to feel cared for and loved now. Pretty damn understandable wish in the middle of a pandemic, right? If you get physical aka kisses, touches and the like. In dreams, sex = connection. So, it’s time to check if you really want to reconnect with that ex. This is another instance where it can be helpful to make a list of the reasons for the breakup. Loewenberg adds, “When you have a child together, it’s not about sex or kissing, it’s about bonding for the good of the child.” Good to know! If it’s something positive, it’s probably been a minute since your quarantine baby made you feel that way, and you miss that feeling. As Barr says, “Now that people are together 24/7, relationships can feel slightly stale.” She suggests actively planning dates (and tissues) to rekindle the spark. If you dream that you’re developing COVID-19, you still have some ugly feelings towards that ex, says Loewenberg: “Your subconscious uses the virus as a metaphor to show you that you still have something left of your ex, that You need to work through it.” LOL, yes, your ex = the virus. If you’re very over your ex, Loewenberg says, it could indicate that something in one of your current relationships (romantic and/or sexual or not) is feeling unhealthy. Do you become codependent? Do you take each other for granted? Solve after that and the dream will stop.
So… when are these dreams a red flag? According to Barr and Loewenberg: if they become a constant thing (read: nightly or bi-nightly)

What if you’re in a relationship – should you tell your partner? While communication is generally a good thing in relationships, Barr and Loewenberg agree that telling your current boo that your ex-boo is cooling off in your subconscious will do more harm than good. “It’s likely to make your partner insecure and jealous without giving you or him anything,” says Loewenberg. Still, as Jesse Kahn, LCSW-R, CST, the director and sex therapist at The Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center in NYC, says, “There is no ‘should’ when it comes to relationships because every relationship and every person is different. Kahn adds that these questions can help you figure out what’s right for your relationship: Do you want to tell your partner, and if so, what are your intentions and motivations? If you tell your partner, will there be consequences for you or your relationship? How do you feel about these episodes?
How to Talk About It Should you tell your partner the intimate details about these dreams? Probably not. But as Barr points out, our partners are really intuitive. So when you are affected, disturbed or haunted by these dreams, your S.O. probably noticed. Therefore, when your partner asks you what’s going on, Barr suggests sharing the fact that you’ve had some confusing dreams. For example, “I know I’ve been acting great in my head lately. That’s because I had super vivid dreams with scenes from my past, and that disoriented me. But I’m here, I love you, and you don’t have to worry.”
“You’re right, I was in a weird mood. My dreams have been really disturbing lately and they have been haunting my waking hours. I promise to let you know if I’d like to discuss this further.”

There are few things in design that are more subjective—or important—than the use of color. A color that may evoke one reaction in one person may evoke the opposite reaction in another, due to culture, past association, or even just personal preference. Receive email updates on upcoming articles.
Color theory is a science and an art in itself, upon which some build entire careers, as a color consultant or sometimes as a brand consultant. Knowing how color affects the majority of people is an incredibly valuable skill for designers to master and offer to their clients.
However, there is a lot behind it. Something as simple as changing the exact hue or saturation of a color can create an entirely different feel. Cultural differences can amplify these effects, with a hue that’s cheerful and uplifting in one country becoming depressing in another.
This is the first part of a three part series on color theory. Here we will discuss the meanings behind the different color families and give some examples of how these colors are used (with a bit of analysis for each). In part 2 we will talk about how hue, chroma, value, saturation, tones, tints and shades affect the way we perceive color. And in Part 3, we’ll discuss how to create effective color palettes for your own designs.
Warm colours
Warm colors include red, orange, and yellow, and variations of these three colors. These are the colors of fire, autumn leaves, and sunsets and sunrises, and are generally energizing, passionate, and positive.
Red and yellow are both primary colors, with orange falling in the middle (making it a secondary color), meaning that warm colors are all really warm and aren’t created by combining a warm color with a cool color. Use warm colors in your designs to reflect passion, happiness, enthusiasm and energy.
Red (Primary Color)
Red is a very hot color. It is associated with fire, violence and war. It is also associated with love and passion. In history, it has been associated with both the devil and cupid. Red can actually have a physical effect on people by increasing blood pressure and respiratory rate. It has also been shown to improve human metabolism.
Red can be associated with anger, but also with importance (think of the red carpet at award shows and celebrity events). Red also indicates danger (the reason traffic lights and signs are red and that warning signs are often red).
Outside the western world, red has different associations. In China, for example, red is the color of prosperity and good luck. It can also be used to attract good luck. In other Eastern cultures, red is worn by brides on their wedding days. In South Africa, on the other hand, red is the color of mourning. Red is also associated with communism.
Red has become the color associated with AIDS awareness in Africa due to the popularity of the [RED] campaign.
In design, red can be a strong accent color. It can have an overwhelming effect when used too often in designs, especially in its purest form. It is a great color when there is power or passion to be represented in the design. However, red can be very versatile, with lighter versions being more energetic and darker hues being more powerful and elegant.

orange (secondary color)
Orange is a very vibrant and energetic color. In its muted forms it can be associated with the earth and autumn. Because of its association with the changing seasons, orange can represent change and movement in general. Orange is also strongly associated with creativity.
Because orange is associated with the fruit of the same name, it can be associated with health and vitality. In designs, orange grabs attention without being as overwhelming as red. It is often seen as friendlier and more welcoming and less intrusive.

yellow (primary color)
Yellow is often considered the brightest and most energizing of the warm colors. It is associated with luck and sunshine. However, yellow can also be associated with deceit and cowardice (calling someone yellow is calling them a coward).
Yellow is also associated with hope, as seen in some countries when families who have loved ones at war display yellow ribbons. Yellow is also associated with danger, although not as strongly as red.
In some countries, yellow has very different connotations. In Egypt, for example, yellow represents mourning. In Japan it represents courage and in India it is a color for merchants.
In your designs, bright yellow can bring a sense of happiness and happiness. Softer shades of yellow are often used as a gender-neutral color for babies (rather than blue or pink) and toddlers. Bright yellow also conveys a calmer feeling of happiness than bright yellow. Dark yellow and golden yellow can sometimes look aged and can be used in designs where a sense of permanence is desired.

cold colors
Cool colors like green, blue, and purple are often more muted than warm colors. They are the colors of the night, of the water, of nature and usually have a calming, relaxing and somewhat reserved effect.
Blue is the only primary color within the cool spectrum, meaning the other colors are created by combining blue with a warm color (yellow for green and red for purple).
For this reason, green takes on some of the characteristics of yellow and purple some of the characteristics of red. Use cool colors in your designs to convey a sense of calm or professionalism.
Green (secondary color)
Green is a very down-to-earth color. It can represent new beginnings and growth. It also signifies renewal and abundance. Alternatively, green can also represent envy or jealousy and lack of experience.
Green shares many of the same calming qualities as blue, but it also contains some of yellow’s energy. In design, green can have a balancing and harmonizing effect and is very stable.
It is suitable for designs related to prosperity, stability, renewal and nature. Lighter green is more energizing and vibrant, while olive green is more representative of the natural world. Dark green is the most stable and representative of prosperity.

Blue (Primary Color)
Blue is often associated with sadness in the English language. Blue is also commonly used to represent calm and responsibility. Light blue can be refreshing and friendly. Dark blue ones are stronger and more reliable. Blue is also associated with peace and has spiritual and religious connotations in many cultures and traditions (for example, the Virgin Mary is generally depicted in blue robes).
The meaning of blue depends heavily on the exact shade and hue. When it comes to design, the exact shade of blue you choose has a huge impact on how your designs are perceived. Light blue often has a relaxed and calming effect. Light blue can be stimulating and refreshing. Dark blue, like navy, is excellent for corporate locations or designs where strength and reliability are important.

Purple (secondary color)
In ancient times, the dyes used to create purple hues were extracted from snails and were very expensive, only royalty and the very wealthy could afford them.
Purple is a combination of red and blue, inheriting some attributes from both. It is also associated with creativity and imagination.
In Thailand, purple is the mourning color for widows. Darker purples are traditionally associated with wealth and nobility, while lighter purples (like lavender) are considered more romantic.
In design, dark shades of purple can convey a sense of wealth and luxury. Light shades of purple are softer and associated with spring and romance.

neutrals
Neutral colors often serve as a background in design. They are often combined with lighter accent colors. However, they can also be used alone in designs and create very sophisticated layouts. The meanings and impressions of neutral colors are much more influenced by the colors surrounding them than warm and cool colors.
Black
Black is the strongest of the neutral colors. On the plus side, it is commonly associated with power, elegance, and formality. On the negative side, it can be associated with evil, death, and mystery. Black is the traditional color of mourning in many western countries. It is also associated with rebellion in some cultures and associated with Halloween and the occult.
Black, when not only used as an accent or for text, is often used in fancier designs, but also in very elegant designs. It can be either conservative or modern, traditional or bohemian, depending on what colors it is paired with. In design, black is often used for typography and other functional parts due to its neutrality. Black can make it easier to convey a sense of sophistication and mystery in a design.

White
White is on the opposite end of the spectrum from black, but like black, it can pair well with almost any other color. White is often associated with purity, cleanliness and virtue. In the West, white is commonly worn by brides on their wedding day. It is also associated with the healthcare industry, specifically doctors, nurses, and dentists. White is associated with goodness, and angels are often depicted in white.
However, in much of the East, white is associated with death and mourning. In India, it is traditionally the only color widows are allowed to wear.
In design, white is generally considered a neutral background that gives a bigger voice to other colors in a design. However, it can help convey cleanliness and simplicity and is popular in minimalist designs. White in designs can also represent either winter or summer depending on the other design motifs and colors that surround it.

Gray
Gray is a neutral color that generally falls on the cool end of the color spectrum. It can sometimes be seen as moody or depressing. In some designs, light shades of gray can be used in place of white, and dark shades of gray can be used in place of black.
Gray is generally conservative and formal, but it can also be modern. It is sometimes considered the color of mourning. It is often used in corporate designs where formality and professionalism are paramount. It can be a very sophisticated color. Pure grays are blacks, although other grays may contain blues or browns. In design, gray backgrounds are very common, as is gray typography.

Brown
Brown is associated with earth, wood and stone. It is a completely natural color and a warm neutral. Brown can be associated with dependability and dependability, with steadfastness and down-to-earthness. It can also be considered boring.
In design, brown is often used as a background color. It can also be seen in wood textures and sometimes in stone textures. It helps add a sense of warmth and health to designs. It is sometimes used in its darkest forms as a substitute for black, either in backgrounds or in typography.

Beige and light brown
Beige is somewhat unique on the color spectrum as it can take on cool or warm tones depending on the surrounding colors. It has the warmth of brown and the coolness of white and, like brown, is sometimes perceived as dull. It is a conservative color in most cases and is usually reserved for backgrounds. It can also symbolize piety.
Beige in design is commonly used in backgrounds and is often seen in backgrounds with a paper texture. It takes on the properties of the surrounding colors, which means that it itself has little impact on the final impression a design makes when used with other colors.

We often claim to have dreamed in color, but when questioned we cannot say clearly what colors we dreamed in or what the color of a particular object or something was. Each color has its own symbolism for each of us. Colors play an important psychophysiological role in our lives.
Dreaming is fairly visual in nature, but those who have heightened awareness of color while awake may be more likely to recall their dreams in color than their less color-aware peers. Dreams cannot be captured or encapsulated, they are subject to the filter of consciousness making them difficult to study. In our waking state, colors stimulate emotions. Colors also stimulate emotions in dreams.

Introducing the color orange
As I write this, it’s early November and we’ve just passed Halloween. For a while, the shops were full of pumpkins and orange decorations. As a follower of Jesus, I didn’t choose to celebrate Halloween myself, but all that orange caught my attention!
There are many wonderful orange objects that occur naturally in our world. In addition to pumpkins, there are oranges, carrots, satsumas and butternut squash. I have some bright orange flowers on display in a vase; there are still a few golden marigolds in the garden, and the autumn leaves shine beautifully in the sunlight.
Orange is a gorgeous color! It awakens feelings of summer sun, happiness and joie de vivre. So let’s unpack what it could mean in our dreams!
Orange as a dream symbol
As with any dream symbol, each color can potentially have both positive and negative meanings. The context, feeling, and atmosphere of a dream give us clues that help us decide whether to interpret it positively or negatively. The color orange has such a positive effect: full of joy and hope. But it can also sometimes appear in a negative context.

In both aspects there is a sense of something that lasts for some time, for better or for worse! This meaning has been confirmed in my own dream experience over the last 15 years.

Most often when orange appears in dreams in a positive context, it represents perseverance. Perseverance gives a positive feeling of not giving up; of patient waiting; to carry on despite everything.

I decided to ask God why orange means perseverance or perseverance and as I did so, this Bible verse came to mind:

Examples of Orange as Stamina in Dreams
DREAM INTERPRETATION EXPLANATION From a friend: I looked up at the sky and could see two bright planets. My companion pointed out that Mars is orange in color. This dream was to encourage my friend to persevere and not lose hope. A difficult situation she was going through seemed endless, but she would change in due course. God has always used heaven to speak of the times and seasons. By highlighting the orange planet, the dream revealed that she was in a time of perseverance. Note that although it seems endless, it means it will end. A few months ago I dreamed of writing a blog post about the color orange and I could see its impact spreading across the internet. Sometimes orange appears in a negative context. We can see this from the context of the dream. It could feel uncomfortable, or we could think it’s a terrible shade of orange. Or maybe the object has the potential to hurt us, like an orange snake or spider.
