How do women’s hinges work?

Hinge works like most dating apps, letting you like or reject other users that appear on your feed. When you sign up for Hinge, you have to answer three “prompts” about yourself, which appear on your profile. Unlike Tinder or Bumble, Hinge lets you like specific parts of someone’s profile instead of the whole thing.

Hinge touts itself as “the only dating app to shut down.” In other words, Hinge wants its users to find lasting relationships, not just quick flings.

But despite the marketing, Hinge isn’t really different from its competitors like Tinder and Bumble. It’s a smartphone app that shows you pictures of other people in the app and allows you to like or dislike them. And if two users like each other, they will be connected to start chatting.

Hinge’s key unique features are “prompts,” short questions that add flair and humor to your profile; and Standouts, a list of your most compatible matches.

Here’s everything you need to know about how Hinge works and how to get started.

How hinge works

Hinge is free to download on both the iPhone App Store and Android Play Store and is completely free to use, although there are paid upgrades.

When you sign up for Hinge, you’re required to provide all of the standard information: your name, email address, date of birth, and city of residence. You also have the option to provide more details about yourself, including your height, religion, political beliefs, and more.

You can hide most information by tapping the lock icon on the left. Hinge; William Antonelli/Insider

But the feature that really sets Hinge apart – and one of the few that you have to fill out to use the app – is the “prompts”.

The Hinge prompts

The most important part of the sign-up process are the prompts, which are personal questions about your life and interests. You must answer three prompts to create your account and your answers will appear on your profile.

There are a few dozen prompts to choose from, and you can always replace the prompts on your profile. They range from opportunities to talk more about yourself, like “One fact about me that surprises others…” to conversation starters like “The only thing I’d like to know about you is…”

You have to answer three prompts, but you can choose which ones you want to take. Hinge; William Antonelli/Insider

Prompts appear on each user’s profile and are an important part of the Hinge experience. With so many prompts to choose from, it’s rare to see two people with the same set, let alone the same answers.

Once you’ve set up your profile, you can search for potential matches.

Like and reject

Like other dating apps, Hinge shows you one user at a time. You can scroll through their images and prompts and then decide whether to like or dislike them by tapping the heart icon or the “X” icon.

However, unlike other apps, you don’t have to like a person’s entire profile. If they have a specific image or prompt that catches your interest, you can only like this post. It’s a great way to let someone know that you’re really paying attention to their profile and not just liking everyone who comes your way.

If you like something, you also have the option to add a comment. In other apps you would have to wait for a match to start chatting – here you can just start the conversation with a like. Every Like you receive will appear on your personal Likes Page.

You can like a specific element of someone’s profile, e.g. B. a photo or a prompt. Hinge; William Antonelli/Insider

You can also upgrade your Like to a rose. If you send someone a rose, you’ll appear at the top of their feed, showing that you really care. Receive a free rose every Sunday and can purchase more in packs of 3, 12 and 50.

Hinge tracks every profile you like and uses the data to recommend new profiles to show you in the future. They also use it to compile a special list called “standouts”.

outstanding

Standouts are another unique hinge feature. Each day, Hinge creates a list of users who “are your best match” based on how they responded to their prompts. Tapping any of these prompts will take you straight to that user’s full profile. It separates the wheat from the chaff and gives you instant access to your most compatible matches.

Tap the star icon on the bottom toolbar to open the Standouts menu. Hinge; William Antonelli/Insider

However, there’s a catch: you can’t just “Like” these users. Instead, you must send them a rose. This means that if you’ve already used up your free weekly rose, you’ll have to buy more.

Your Standouts list is updated every day at midnight. There’s always a chance they’ll show up on your regular feed as well, but there’s no guarantee.

Can you send pictures on tinder?

Are you among the many people who have wondered if you can send picture messages on Tinder? Well, unfortunately… the short answer is NO: you can’t send pics on Tinder (even if you have Tinder Gold).

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Are you one of the many people who have been wondering if you can send picture messages on Tinder?

Well, unfortunately… the short answer is NO: you can’t send pictures on Tinder (even if you have Tinder Gold).

But all is not lost… There are some other creative methods of sending picture messages that I have figured out.

Let’s jump right into it and answer how to send pictures on Tinder

Should a girl message first on Hinge?

Unlike the Bumble dating app, anyone can send the first message. If you just send a like, that is viewed as lazy and low effort. Always send a message or comment with a like on Hinge.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

How to respond to an invitation to start chat, conversation; Good hinge openers

Occasionally, your original comment may not appear. It’s rare, but Hinge is one of the most flawed dating apps out there. If you receive this prompt after posting the first comment, just indicate that the conversation started or that you commented on a photo or prompt.

Some people will acknowledge this oversight, others may reply that there was no mention (Hinge is quite buggy so don’t rule it out).

If there is no response or you get a lame response, move one. Rarely do people fail to notice the initial message and a simple reminder/prompt is enough to reignite a conversation, but don’t get too hopeful.

A lot of people on dating sites are flaky, lazy and reckless. Focus your time on those who respect your time. You should only focus on those who match your time, dedication, enthusiasm and respect, otherwise take this lack of decency as a potential red flag.

Whether male or female, straight, gay or bi, people like it when others show initiative beyond the initial interest. It shows confidence and frankly, a lot of people on dating apps could benefit from it.

Too much anonymity, hiding behind old blurry dark photos and incomplete bios has made it difficult for people to reveal themselves. One more reason to stand out better in a sea of indecisive, insecure and nervous people.

What can you deduce about people using this generic prompt?

Inviting someone to chat after a comment has already been sent is lazy. People like this want to be entertained or use it as a way to analyze someone to see if they can manipulate and take advantage of them.

It can be a leading indicator of how eager and quick you are willing to jump through hoops for a total stranger.

If you like and the other person sends that message, it’s similar, it’s a little better, but chances are the party isn’t that interested nor outgoing enough to show up. If you like someone, comment on a profile or photo, don’t just send a like. Better yet, follow the comment with a question or opinion.

Pro tip: Reduce your chance of going out of kilter or ghosting by avoiding these Hinge Tinder bingo offenses.

Hinge Conversation Tips, Advice: Should You Use Hinge to Start Chat?

If you need to ask someone to speak to you, you’re barking up the wrong tree. You shouldn’t have to ask anyone to show interest in you or to make an effort.

People can get anxious because they’re blinded by infatuation, don’t have many options (likes or matches), or use a volume approach with dating apps.

If you are interested in someone, make the first move. Take control of your love life. If you are a passenger in your own life, things will not go as you hoped or planned. However, you shouldn’t be the one who texts first all the time – don’t text him. Make sure the other person matches your energy, interest, and enthusiasm.

There is a fine line between taking the lead here and there and being overly clingy, making excuses for others and trying to see if he or she is interested in you.

Some guys and girls try too hard to make something out of nothing on dating apps. One of the main reasons is the lack of options. Instead of trying to convince someone you’re not really interested in to date you, focus on yourself and what you can influence and control.

Work on your looks, smile, style, hobbies, interests, and conversation skills. Improve yourself and make yourself more interesting and attractive so you can afford to be more picky.

How do I reply to a like on Hinge? Do you respond to likes without comments? Hinge Etiquette

Likes alone are meaningless. If you like someone, add a note. I generally advise against replying to a simple like alone. It can be seen as lazy or something done by someone who is shy.

Focus on the ones that put in a little more effort and creativity. If you like someone, send not only a like but also a note. Reference their profile, photos, or captions. Don’t use a boring intro like “How are you” or “What are you doing?”.

Hinge Opening Lines, First Messages On Hinge, What to Say On Hinge, Hinge Conversation Starters

It’s best to comment on someone’s photos, captions, prompts, or bio. Show that you have read the person’s profile. Avoid commenting on the easiest, first, or most popular photo, and respond when prompted (they’ll probably have heard your comment many times).

Be unique, be creative, show that your comment is specific to them and not something generic, boring or even lazy.

How do you start a conversation with a guy on the hinge?

Check out his profile, prompts and photos. Pay attention to details like logos on shirts, objects on his plate, background locations, facial expressions, or casual observations.

Specific, targeted comments, opinions, and even slight jabs are a great way to show that you’ve checked out their profile, rather than general, lazy openings like hi, hey, how are you, how’s your quarantine to begin with.

It’s Your Turn – Red Buttons vs. Blue Buttons

Red buttons indicate incoming likes, new matches, and conversations that it’s your turn to respond to by summing them up into a total.

Blue buttons on the Games tab summarize conversations that it’s your turn to respond to. If you find yourself getting a red button frequently even after sending a message, you should contact Hinge to take a look at your account (information below).

Hinge Date From Home – Ready for a video or phone call?

Once matched, Hinge users will see a “Date from Home” pop-up menu at the end of each conversation with their matches. This prompt asks if they’re ready for a video chat or phone call with their match. This prompt came from a survey of users who suggested they were open to going on a digital date.

Hinge Messages: Online Dating Etiquette, Hidden Chats, Matches – Hinge Rules, Hinge Chat Gone

If you’re no longer interested in talking to someone, you can unconversation or swipe left and select “Hide” to hide the conversation for later.

Usually, the more engaged you are with someone, the more polite it is to say that you are no longer interested in the person. Any match with no activity in 14 days will be automatically hidden.

Can you see who you’ve commented on Hinge?

Yes, but only after you agree (the other person likes you too).

Hinge Take Your Turn: How do you chat on Hinge?

By not replying after matching, you’re inviting a person you like to send the next message, even if they messaged first. That’s lazy and pathetic.

Hinge conversations lead nowhere

It happens, a few replies and then nothing. Either the messages you sent are not that interesting, the other person is bored or not interested, or the other person has met someone else.

Conversations require awareness, timing, luck, screening skills, life experience, and the ability to avoid wasting time.

How to get more Hinge replies, no Hinge replies, no Hinge replies, Hinge match but no message, Hinge match but no reply

Maybe you’re not her type, maybe you didn’t send a good enough comment that’s unique and hasn’t been seen yet.

Maybe your timing was off. Maybe the other person is a bot/spammer/fake account. The person may not be interested in you (even if you agree – matches mean nothing).

Add other conversation starters to your profile, e.g. B. Backgrounds and activities in photos and fill out your profile.

Bug On Hinge, Hinge Dating App Issues – Shadowbanned On Hinge; Contact Hinge Support

Hinge is a notoriously buggy app. From time to time, you’ll see people on Reddit and public forums mentioning that their messages were never sent or disappeared.

While that’s possible, it’s also possible for users to see less of it for others, and for too much swiping, messaging to hurt their chances, whether it’s a bandwidth issue or, if you believe the internet, a shadow ban on Hinge.

It doesn’t hurt to see if there’s an error with Hinge by emailing customer support with examples, account info, device type, and screenshots.

Hinge Voice Notes

Mount recently posted voice memos in messaging for those who hate messaging. I think they should be avoided at all costs (rather lazy, impersonal). It’s like receiving voice messages in WhatsApp and having to sit through them.

First message from Hinge: Hi, Hey, Say What’s Up On Hinge: Hinge Icebreakers

Find out why saying hello, hey on Hinge as the first message is pretty pathetic and gets you nowhere on dating apps. Sometimes you can look for people like this when you search for red flags in a profile. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a good way to be more efficient on dating apps.

How to respond to Hi On Hinge

My advice, don’t. It’s low effort, lazy and pathetic. If you can’t afford to be picky, optimize your profile so you can be pickier.

Just use one of her photos or prompt answers as inspiration for your first message! And it works both ways. If she likes what she sees in your profile, it’s easy for her to reach out to you. Hinge even added a special feed called Standouts designed to get people messaging each other.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Looking for the best way to start a Hinge conversation? This popular dating app gives you a built-in advantage!

You can send a message while liking a profile instead of just swiping right and hoping for a match like you do on Tinder.

According to the app’s internal data, your comment increases the likelihood of you receiving a response by 3 times.

Just use one of their photos or prompt replies as inspiration for your first message! And it works both ways. If she likes what she sees on your profile, it’s easy for her to contact you.

Hinge even added a special feed called Standouts that people can use to message each other.

Just tap the star icon and browse a curated selection of prompts and photos.

Each belongs to someone identified as potentially compatible by the Hinge Standouts algorithm.

Every day free users get a new selection of around 10 to scroll through. (Hinge Preferred users unlock a few extra daily standouts.)

If you like what you see, tap the “Rose” icon to let her know.

Hinge users get one rose every week, replenished on Sundays, and you can buy more at any time. The roses never expire and cost about $1.49 each if you buy 50 at a time.

Hinge Conversation Strategy

When it comes to how best to start a conversation on Hinge, there are two approaches you need to take:

First, understand what makes a successful first message on a dating app so your conversation starters get replies from every woman whose profile intrigues you. Second, have the kind of profile that gets interesting women to send you comments, likes, and roses.

By the end of this article, you’ll have everything you need to achieve both goals — and you’ll be hooking up with real dates in no time!

Hinge strategy #1: Get your first message straight to the point

The message you include with your “like” not only needs to start the conversation, but it also needs to set you apart from the competition.

So while “hello” technically gets the message exchange going, it doesn’t make them want to reply.

A lot of guys take compliments, thinking it’s the best way to impress them. Spoiler alert: it isn’t.

A better way to start a hinge conversation

Women on dating apps are inundated with appearance-based compliments from men hoping to get their attention.

You’re far more likely to get an eye roll and a hard pass than a reply to a message like the ones above.

Commenting on any content on their profile that interests you, whether it’s a photo or a quick reply, is a much better messaging strategy for Hinge.

A Hinge conversation starter should accomplish these three things:

Show that you are interested in learning more about them. Share some attractive information about yourself. ask a question

This is what it looks like in action:

Let’s unpack that a little.

First off, any time someone mentions their dog on a dating profile, chances are she’s willing to talk about it.

That goes for just about any hobby too—if she’s taken the time to bring it up, she’ll generally find it a great topic of conversation.

She also learns that the two of you have something in common – you are both dog owners.

This is another subtle way to quickly build attraction, you use the implicit selfishness effect. Humans are naturally more attracted to others who remind them of themselves, so it’s always a win if you can connect on that level.

The “Should I bring” line shows confidence – you basically assume that you will eventually meet their pup, but you do so in a natural, sincere, and not arrogant way.

You can adapt this Hinge conversation strategy to a variety of messages.

Just write it with the assumption that the two of you will eventually share the experience.

The key to starting a conversation about Hinge

Most importantly, you ask her a question. This is an important conversational tactic when you want to address the other person.

Invite them to share something about themselves and they generally will.

They also make it much easier for her to formulate her answer since it provides information she already knows. The conversation has a clear direction so not much effort is required on their part.

Hinge strategy #2: Make your profile message worthy

If you’ve been using dating apps for more than a minute, you already know that you need to put profile photos and video clips where you look your best.

But on Hinge, it’s just as important to choose content that also encourages comments and likes.

Even if you look decent, a lineup full of boring selfies taken in places like your car doesn’t make it easy for her to start a conversation.

And if your prompt replies don’t make you look like a good catch, why would she even bother sending the first message, let alone a like?

First, let’s talk about your Hinge photos.

If you’re unsure about choosing photos that will make you look your best, be sure to check out these dating profile picture tips.

Once you’ve made good choices, you can now determine which ones have the greatest potential to inspire messages. This is the key to getting more conversations on Hinge!

Use data to increase your match rate

Hinge had a team of data scientists analyze 1,000 user photos to determine which features and attributes help a photo perform well — and not so well.

Here are 3 insights from their research that you can use to optimize your Hinge photo lineup:

#1: Use photos that show sports and physical activity.

This type of dating photo has consistently outperformed other types of images.

It’s also easy to comment on a sports picture — whether she’s pointing out that the two of you have an interest in common, an activity she’s always wanted to try, or just asking if you won that day.

There are a million easy questions to choose from if she’s curious enough to start a conversation with you, and that makes for a great Hinge photo.

#2: Snaps of people going out at night also did well.

This makes sense since first dates with a new person are usually social, and it’s good to reassure them that they’re fun to hang out with.

But in general, it’s better if the photo only shows yourself or you with friends of the same sex. Having a friend of the opposite sex who is mistaken for a possible significant other earned Hinge the title of “Epic Fail”.

That being said…just make sure the night you portray is one she’d be happy to attend. Save proof of the legendary pub crawl with your brothers for Facebook.

#3: Selfies are 40% less likely to get a like.

This percentage goes up to 90% if your background is a bathroom. Save the selfies for social media…they’re fed up with online daters.

The numbers don’t lie

Studies from other sources support Hinge’s findings. In one, researchers showed participants photos of the same subject, one a selfie and the other taken by someone else.

These participants found that the subject in the photo taken by someone else appeared more likeable and also more attractive.

If your current Hinge series has a selfie/Snapchat filter combo, you definitely need to swap it out for a more attractive dating photo.

Not only did they get the worst score in Hinge’s study, but some dating apps like POF have banned them for hiding your appearance to varying degrees.

POF conducted its own study, in which participants revealed that they thought face filters made you appear:

Insecure Shallow Like pretending to be someone you’re not

These are 3 compelling reasons to skip the face filters on any dating app or website!

Bonus hinge photo tip

Adorable dogs are Hinge’s gold when it comes to inspirational messages and “likes.” It doesn’t even have to be your dog.

Research has shown that the mere perception of dog ownership makes you a more attractive catch.

Their Hinge profile photos have the most immediate visual impact, but that doesn’t mean you can just call them out with your Hinge replies.

Choose your prompt answers wisely

Everything she sees and reads contributes to her first impression, and when you have a lot of competition, it doesn’t take much to put you out of the running.

Here are 3 common mistakes guys make when answering the Hinge questions, and what you should do instead!

Mistake #1: Waving an unintentional red flag

Each Hinge prompt allows up to 150 characters, which means content that they think is negative or questionable can have a big impact on the impression they make of you.

Take the “Pet Peeve” prompt, for example.

If you can’t find a way to make your response fun and light-hearted, you come across as more of a whiner, swayed by life’s little annoyances.

Don’t respond to prompts in a way that inadvertently emphasizes an unattractive personality trait, such as insecurity, clinginess, or arrogance:

How to fix: Use each hinge prompt to emphasize a specific, attractive feature

When deciding which Hinge prompts the answer, make a short list of the qualities you possess that you think your “ideal” woman would look for in a man.

Next, select the prompts that will help you “prove” that you are that type of person. Sounds a bit complicated, but it isn’t.

For example, let’s say you’re an outdoor-savvy, adventurous guy looking for a “nature girl” to hit the trails with you.

To address them, choose a prompt like “Best Travel Story” or “On My Bucket List,” where you can describe a recent experience you’ve had or would like to have.

Here are two good real-life examples:

Other attractive features are:

Stable career

ability and means to travel

Physical fitness

Strong family ties

Interesting Hobbies

“DIY” Skills

With over 80 options, you shouldn’t have a problem finding prompts that help you shine.

Mistake #2: Claiming that past relationships have burned you

Most of the people you find on dating apps have had at least one breakup or bad dating experience.

The last thing you want to do is imply that you’re not over your last one.

Leave dating and relationship drama of any kind out of your dating profile.

Positivity exudes confidence and happiness, while a negative start makes them much less motivated to want to learn more about you.

Here’s how to fix it: Focus on what you’re looking for, not what you’re not

It’s a great idea to include a line or two about your definition of girlfriend material. It puts them on your profile, which can help establish a connection.

Just do it in a positive, constructive way, like this:

Mistake #3: Underestimating the impact of poor grammar and typos

150 characters isn’t a lot of space and there isn’t much text in a hinge profile.

Over 60% of single women say they check profiles on dating apps instead of just quickly swiping through them.

Misspellings, terrible grammar and sloppy typos can quickly derail the attraction train.

This is especially true if she’s aiming for a long-term relationship – details matter. If she thinks you’re not keen on making a good impression, why would she waste her time texting you?

To fix the problem: Pay attention to your spell check

In the age of smartphones, there really is no excuse for such mistakes.

Misspelled words are not only underlined in red, your phone also suggests the correct spelling.

That’s one of the reasons it looks so bad – it’s literally a split-second fix that you don’t seem to have to do.

When you’re on a platform where impressions are everything, that’s terrible news.

It’s also a good idea to get a second opinion on your profile, since it’s difficult to be an unbiased critic of something you’ve written yourself.

Run it from a few friends, preferably those who are the same gender as you are interested in dating.

Feedback on the first impression your profile makes can be tremendously helpful and well worth the extra time and effort.

Does everyone you see on Hinge see you?

No, Hinge shows your profile based on location, deal-breakers others select. Similarly, in big cities, not everyone is on the app that often or for that long so people may never see your profile. All the more reason to give your profile, photos serious thought rather than just dabble and see what happens.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Like a resume, your online dating profile is a work in progress and people often work rigorously on it and improve it over time.

Unlike a resume, where your updated version is viewed in isolation and independently of new companies you submit it to, your dating profile is weighted by the success (or failure) of your early colleagues and displayed to others accordingly.

Pro tip: Be sure to check out the dating profile templates before downloading the app so you can set up a practice profile before going live.

New Users Boost Bumble, Hinge: Front Loaded Matches, fewer matches over time, Tinder encourages new users

If you’re ever wondering why you’re shown attractive and desirable profiles by users early on and then hit a wall with less desirable people and fewer likes, that’s it.

There is always a regression to the mean and it can take between 3 and 5 days for the algorithm to analyze and rank your profile compared to others in the area (depending on supply, demand and swipe activity).

Some people attribute it to a bug or the app, but in most cases it’s just your profile moving up or down the pecking order.

This regression is part of a larger monetization strategy – most dating apps come with free trials (no notifications, e.g. Hinge) or with hard upsells for boosts, hoping you’ll remember how that first week was .

Dating apps (more so than others) are photo-centric, meaning most of what a person sees is photos, or at least photos are prioritized, meaning bios, prompts, and demographics are ignored or deprioritized early on.

It’s an unfortunate approach, but it is what it is and that’s why it’s important to start your dating profile as strong as possible from the start and not get caught in a vicious cycle.

Some users are savvy and aware of this phenomenon and might try to tamper with the system by creating duplicate account, deleting accounts and restarting, but often apps will detect what is going on and punish users even more if they try to cheat the system.

Needless to say, this can lead to a dark path where users don’t get likes, get put down by others, and end up never getting any data about the app – DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

While it’s good to get feedback from others on your profile, it can actually hurt you. Friends tend to be less direct when it comes to something this personal.

If you ask attractive friends or more social friends for help, they might have an advantage you don’t (have more leeway to get away with mistakes, red flags, or sickly taboos).

Bumble algorithm, how does Bumble decide who to show you? Bumble ELO, Bumble Attractiveness Ranking, how does Bumble determine who you see first?

Similar to Hinge, Bumble encourages new profiles and shows them to many people early on to get an idea of desirability.

After this initial phase, the number of times your profile is viewed will decrease and return to normal (which is why you may see fewer likes after a few days or weeks).

How to improve Bumble profile? How to optimize Bumble algorithm ranking?

Get better photos, fill out your profile, bio, avoid generic clichés, don’t swipe right too much, don’t swipe right too fast, have confidence and don’t swipe exclusively outside of your league, age group and yours Radius.

Read how to optimize your Bumble profile here.

Why am I not getting matches on Bumble? Does Bumble penalize you if you swip too much? How do you beat the Bumble algorithm?

The more you swipe right on IG models, people who are far away or significantly taller than you or younger than you, the more likely they will see you and swipe left on you.

It’s best to have realistic expectations, tweak your profile, and be patient rather than swiping too much.

To get more likes, matches, good photos, smile, get to know your audience, fill out your profile and not use self-sabotaging photos.

Bumble Boost, Tinder Boost, Hinge Preferred – Paid premium features, when to boost

While Bumble Premium Memberships and Preferred Hinge Memberships can be tempting, I see these services as similar to annoying paid ads.

In the long run, working on yourself (appearance, health, career, hobbies, social life, wardrobe, grooming, and photos) is much better than paying for a dopamine rush from a few extra random likes.

Read more about paid features in dating apps and whether you should try them.

How do algorithms work on Hinge, Bumble & Tinder, Tinder ELO

Dating apps aren’t set up to see you as the most desirable, compatible user. You are constantly testing A/B algorithms, functions and you are the product. Don’t assume that boosts or paid services will help your profile – only improved photos, bios, captions, demographics and looks can do that.

Dating algorithms are designed to keep you on the app for as long as possible and monetize those efforts.

To get the most out of dating apps, you need to focus on improving yourself and your profile — there are no hacks. Dating apps show users they think you might be interested and have a chance, not necessarily the ones you’re most likely to like or swipe right at you.

You mix in profiles for attractive people, not-so-attractive people, people outside of your preferences and radius to teach and improve the algorithm.

Not everyone sees your profile on the Hinge, Bumble, or Tinder apps. For one, people have filters. Second, not everyone is on the app 24/7. Women use 1-2 apps on average (max), while some men use 2-4 or more apps.

Given app usage and the gender imbalance on dating apps (60/40 male to female or more), it is possible that men see most/all women, while women may see less than 30% of male profiles.

Too much, too fast swipe right on Bumble, Hinge & Tinder

If you’re in an app for a while, you might come across profiles that you’ve already seen or swiped over.

One reason is that you wipe too often and too much. Dating apps handle an insane amount of data and it’s costly to update servers in real-time for everyone after every swipe.

Sometimes it takes some time for dating apps to update their reporting servers to balance the cost and effort. So you’d better take your time to check profiles carefully so the apps can catch up and record your actions.

Even then, apps will likely penalize you and show you less to others if you swipe right too much and or never scroll to thoroughly examine profiles.

How Do Dating Apps Make Money (Hinge, Bumble, Tinder etc.)

Some apps sell advertising on their website, others sell your personal information to third parties, and still others make money from subscriptions and upgrades. Dating apps work like drug dealers – they hit you and get you hooked.

With dating apps they first boost your profile and then slow down how many people see your profile and how many profiles they show you. Many users think that by paying for subscriptions and upgrades they can reclaim that initial activity, but that’s often not the case.

Most profiles have exhausted more of their compatible and likely likes/matches early on and don’t have many options left.

Few profiles are great enough to continue the stream of likes/matches they saw when they first signed up (these are usually the most sought after alias most attractive people on the platform).

Dating apps sell users false hope by stating that with Y premium feature they can get X more matches.

Typically, these extra likes (if any) come from people further away, out of your league, accidental likes, or people looking for IG followers or attention, or people right-clicking on all.

Paying for subscriptions is like paying for paid ads on websites – they are likely to result in accidental clicks or bots clicking on ads to trick others into paying more.

Why am I not getting any likes on Hinge? How do I get more likes on Hinge? No likes on hinge 2022

New users are boosted upon registration and seen by many people within the first few hours and days. Once your profile is viewed enough times, Hinge will adjust your visibility (who you see, how often you see) based on your swipe worthiness to the right.

If you want to keep getting likes on Hinge, work on your profile. Enhance your worst photos, fill in your prompt answers and bio, add captions to your photos and send comments along with likes.

No likes on Bumble? How do I get more likes on Bumble?

Bumble is a rather shallow app in terms of photo quality on profiles, but also user interaction. Guys are not able to send first messages so sometimes they like each profile and then see who likes them back.

It’s hard to differentiate the effort with a swipe on Bumble. Because women are bombarded with likes on the app, they tend to be more selective and like fewer profiles (perhaps less than apps like Hinge, where effort can be measured by comments).

My recommendation to get more likes on Bumble – invest in your photos, prompts. Paying for boosts may get you more likes, but these are low-quality likes from people outside of your area, age group, and interest.

How do you know if you’re a standout on Hinge?

If you want to check it out, you can find the standouts tab by tapping on the star icon at the bottom of your screen. The standouts feed is refreshed daily, which encourages you to stay active on the app.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

You know the basics of how dating apps work. You have a feed full of users to look through and decide whether to “like” or message any of the profiles you find. The mechanics differ from one app to the next, but the idea is the same.

Many dating apps are starting to recognize swipe fatigue and offer ways to see top matches without scrolling through the day.

Hinge’s solution to this problem is its new standout feature.

Hinge Standouts are a curated list of potential matches that Hinge believes are a best match for you based on your behavior in the app and the quality of the featured profile.

If you want to check it out, you can find the Featured Items tab by tapping the star icon at the bottom of your screen.

The outstanding feed is updated daily, which encourages you to stay active on the app.

Is Hinge better than Bumble?

Overall, Hinge is better than Bumble for most guys.

Hinge’s match-before-you-message format encourages communication, and while you can only like a limited number of women each day at least you can send them a message right away.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

When it comes to Hinge vs Bumble, both dating apps are worthy of your shortlist if you’re looking for a serious relationship. But which one is better?

This quick guide offers a head-to-head comparison in all the major categories!

Jump straight to what you want to read about first, or start at the top!

Hinge vs Bumble: Popularity & Demographics

Both Hinge and Bumble were among the fastest growing dating apps in the US in 2020. Hinge took first place, Tinder 2nd, and Bumble 4th.

Hinge may be growing the fastest, but it still has some catching up to do — Bumble is the second most popular dating app in the US, right behind Tinder.

If you base your decision on which dating app to use solely on the number of potential matches, Bumble is better than Hinge.

Bumble wins the general popularity contest, but you should also consider how popular a dating app is with people in the age group you want to date.

Hinge’s fastest-growing demographic is singles in their mid-20s, particularly those aged 22-26. The broader target market is Millennials, with almost 50% of users under 30 and the rest under 49.

Bumble has more users under 30 and also more users over 50.

If you’re over 50, try Bumble first. Hinge is slightly more popular with users over 30. So if you are, Hinge can give you an edge.

Category Winner:

Bumble is better than Hinge when it comes to your potential match pool – it has a lot more users overall.

But remember…

Both Bumble and Hinge are geared towards dating, not dating. You will find that most of your potential matches are looking for a relationship. Hinge in particular – their entire marketing campaign revolves around “designed to be delete”.

Bumble lets you filter for singles looking for “something casual,” but as app founder Whitney Wolfe Herd explained, “We’re not one of our competitors just trying to bring people together.”

If that’s what you’re looking for, stick with Tinder.

Hinge vs Bumble: Matching & Messaging

Hinge & Bumble take completely different approaches to connecting you to compatible games.

Fits on hinge

Hinge abandoned the swipe format altogether a few years ago, which has greatly increased user engagement. When it was a swipe app like Tinder, 1 in 10 matches actually talked to each other. That rose to 50% of games engaged with others in the app after the redesign.

Instead of swiping, Hinge presents potential matches in 3 separate feeds.

One of them will reveal who has already liked your profile — a feature most other dating apps charge a premium for. To see them all at once, however, you’ll need to upgrade. If you are a free user, you will have to go through them one by one.

As Hinge executive Amarnath Thombre explained to MarketWatch, “The main appeal of Hinge is to see who liked you.”

Your “Discover” feed will display singles that match your specified criteria, and a curated group of “Standouts” will make up the third feed (more on that in a moment).

But no matter where you search, you can only “like” a maximum of 10 people per day. Anything beyond that requires a premium subscription (more on that in a moment).

You must like or pass a profile before you can view the next one.

Messaging on hinge

With hinge you can send a message before likening – you can add a comment with your like.

You can like and comment on any part of a user’s profile, whether it’s a photo or a quick reply. That makes it easy to start a conversation about Hinge, which is the whole point of the more interactive format.

Appropriate for Bumble

Bumble has 3 “modes” – one for dating, one for friendships and one for business networking.

In dating mode, like Tinder, users swipe through a match feed. When you and someone you are interested in swipe directly on each other, a match is formed.

Bumble allows free users to swipe right — or “vote,” as they call it — about 100 times every 24 hours. For unlimited swiping you need to upgrade.

News on Bumble

Once you’ve matched, Bumble sets itself apart from competing dating apps with a big twist. Only women can send the first message. The exception is same-sex matches, then any person can send the icebreaker.

Founder Wolfe Herd, a big proponent of women’s empowerment (particularly in tech), envisioned a Tinder that was “women-friendly.” Women on Bumble don’t have to sift through piles of unwanted messages from men — especially lewd or obscene ones.

So women take the first step – but the clock is ticking. The Icebreaker must be sent within 24 hours or the match will expire. Men then have a day to reply or the same thing will happen.

Both halves of a game have a chance to add an additional 24 hours to the countdown, but extending more than one game per day requires a premium subscription.

Bumble doesn’t allow men or women to send a message before matching, although you can respond to a prompt or a photo on someone’s profile by sending an emoji. The emoji will appear when the other person swipes right.

Category Winner:

Hinge is better than Bumble for boys when it comes to matching & messaging. With the right messaging strategy, you can send the kind of icebreakers women want to see.

57% of men said they don’t get enough messages on dating apps, and that’s a frustrating position when you’re not in the driver’s seat.

The ability to send a message before you’ve actually matched can be a game changer for some men, so much so that it’s a premium perk included with Tinder Platinum.

Also, it’s relatively easy to write a personalized message in response to a quick reply or a profile picture on Hinge. If your profile and photos aren’t enough to convince someone you’re a good match, a great Hinge message could send them over the fence.

For women, it depends on how you feel about *always* having to start the conversation. Only 30% of single women said they received too many messages in a recent Pew poll.

As Fast Company theorizes, “Many women feel that making the first move is just too much work and they’d rather open their dating app and see a bunch of requests.”

If you are looking for a dating app that offers profiles of men who have already liked your profile, you might also want to consider Coffee Meets Bagel.

Hinge vs Bumble: Match quality and filter options

These two popular dating apps attract the kind of singles you want to match. But one of them goes the extra mile.

Hinge Match Quality

As you’d expect from a dating site that calls itself *the* relationship app, Hinge’s matching algorithm identifies highly compatible singles and presents one to the most users each day via the Most Compatible feature.

The Standouts feed is another place for the algorithm to work its magic. The ten or so profile and photo prompts in this section are based on similar content you’ve liked, so the users who wrote them are theoretically more “your type.”

If you tap on the prompt, you can view the entire profile card. This feed is updated daily as an incentive to subscribe often.

Screening games on the hinge

Hinge allows free users to set match preferences for gender, age, specific neighborhood, maximum distance, ethnicity, and religion.

Hinge also allows you to change your location as you like, and it’s not a premium feature.

Upgraded users can use the “Preferences” set, which allows you to filter by:

Height

Children and family plans

educational background

politics

Vices (eg, drinking, smoking, marijuna, and drug use)

Any of these settings can be specified as a “deal breaker” – this means that the Hinge algorithm will exclude profiles that do not fall under these specific criteria.

If a category isn’t designated as a dealbreaker, you may get suggested matches that fall outside of that area but are generally compatible in other areas.

Bumble Match quality

Bumble doesn’t have a feed for specially curated suggested matches, or anything similar to Hinge’s “Most Compatible” or Tinder’s “Top Picks” features. If you’re a free user, all your suggested matches are in one place.

Bumble Premium users unlock the “Beeline” where you only see the profiles of people who have already liked yours.

Screening matches on Bumble

Bumble’s basic filters are gender, age, and distance. Bumble lets you swipe in a variety of locations, but it’s a perk of the most expensive upgrade option – Bumble Premium.

All users can select a filter from the Advanced Filters menu, which includes:

Only verified profiles

Type of dates they are open to (virtual, social distancing with mask, social distancing)

Height

exercise frequency

Star sign

education

Drinking & Smoking

pets

type of relationship sought

children

religion

politics

However, selecting more than one also requires a Bumble Premium subscription.

And there’s a twist: you can only filter by a preference if you’ve provided that information in your own profile. Your answers will be reflected on a badge displayed on your profile card.

Category Winner:

Hinge is better than Bumble when it comes to match quality and filtering.

Most Compatible & Standouts features offer curated match suggestions, plus you can change your location for free to increase your potential dating pool.

Hinge also lets you indicate which of your preferences are real deal breakers, which is an efficient way to avoid reviewing your games and missing out on some great people.

Hinge vs Bumble: Cost and Premium Features

You can use both Bumble and Hinge effectively and for free. But like most dating apps, each offers additional perks to paying members, as well as a la carte in-app purchases.

hinge costs

Hinge offers a premium subscription: Hinge Preferred.

A preferred membership costs around $29.99 for 1 month, $59.99 for 3 months and $89.99 for 6 months.

Hinge also offers 2 in-app purchases:

Profile Boosts ($9.99 for 1)

Roses ($3.99 for 1)

Each Hinge Boost lasts for 1 hour. Sending a rose on Hinge is equivalent to a SuperSwipe on Bumble or a SuperLike on Tinder. In both cases, if you buy multiple boosts or roses at once, the price will go down.

Bumble costs

You can choose between two upgraded subscription options: Bumble Boost and Bumble Premium.

Boost costs $14.99 for 1 month, $29.99 for 3 months and $47.99 for 6 months. It’s $7.99 to try it out for just one week.

Premium costs $32.99 for 1 month, $66.99 for 3 months and $199.99 for “lifetime” access. You can also try it for a week for $17.99.

Bumble also has 2 in-app purchases:

Headlight ($5.99 for 1)

Super Swipes ($6.00 for 2)

Improving your profile via the Spotlight feature costs less than Hinge, but only takes 30 minutes. The price per use of both features goes down if you buy them in bulk.

Premium Features

Category Winner:

Bumble is better than Hinge when it comes to premium features and overall value. Paying to use a dating app also unlocks many benefits for the investment.

The ability to hide your profile is a huge plus if you’re worried about your clients, colleagues, students, etc. meeting you on Bumble. And we all know it – it’s nice to be able to undo a swipe.

Hinge vs Bumble: Profiles

Both Hinge and Bumble allow users to upload 6 photos. On Hinge, you can replace any number of these photos with videos. Hinge goes one step further than Bumble and requires all 6 spaces to be filled in to start liking profiles.

Bumble doesn’t have a minimum, but encourages users to check their profiles by making this a filter to screen matches.

Let’s take a closer look at the profile format for each app.

hinge profiles

You won’t find a traditional “About Me” style biography on Hinge. Instead, profiles consist of your 150-word-or-less answers to 3 different questions. You can choose the prompts from a menu that changes occasionally.

The order in which you view the answers is up to you, and they appear automatically between the photos in your lineup.

Hinge also displays the information from the Virtues, Vitals, and Vices sections that you want to make visible. This may include your job, school, level of education, political and religious affiliation, etc.

You can also link your recent Instagram feed to your Hinge profile.

Bumble Profiles

Bumble has an “About Me” section like you would find on Tinder.

But it is shorter and is 300 characters or less. You can also choose three prompts to answer, which Bumble has previously dubbed “Move Makers.” Responses are shorter than Hinge, with a 120-character limit.

Bumble displays details like your exercise habits, education level, height, exercise habits, etc. as profile badges.

You can link both Spotify and Instagram to your Bumble profile.

Category Winner:

Bumble is better than Hinge when it comes to how much information you can share with and learn more about your matches.

Slowing down and learning more about your matches is trending – studies by dating giants Match and OkCupid both suggest the era of “slow dating” has arrived.

According to Match’s Singles in America survey, 63% of singles want to spend more time getting to know someone, and overall the focus is less on physical attraction and more on meaningful conversations before meeting in person.

Final Verdict: Is Hinge Better Than Bumble?

It’s close – with a well-written profile and a carefully curated photo lineup, you can meet incredible singles on both dating apps. They’re both popular with singles in their 20s and 30s. (Dating in your 40s or 50s? Try Match.)

Bumble won 3 of the 5 categories, but Hinge won arguably two of the most important ones – Game Quality and Messaging.

So if you only want to use one of them…

Overall, Hinge is better than Bumble for most guys. You want at least a chance to attract her by sending a great message, right? On Bumble, the ball is all hers — it’s more of a passive experience, at least until the first message rolls in.

Hinge’s match-before-you-message format encourages communication, and while you can only like a limited number of women each day, you can at least message them right away.

For women, Bumble is better if you have limited patience with dating apps and want to control what goes into your inbox. But remember, it will *always* be up to you to get this ball rolling.

With a countdown, Bumble is not a dating app to neglect. If you don’t have time to put on your Bumble at least once a day, Hinge is probably a wiser choice – especially if you’re paying for it.

It starts with finding the right dating app…

But at the end of the day, it’s not just about Bumble vs Hinge. Finding the right dating app is only the first step in your overall online dating strategy. In fact, part of this strategy should be picking several – just to make sure all your bases are covered.

Then you need to create a profile that makes you look your best – in an authentic, natural and compelling way.

But even that isn’t good enough – you also need to package this profile in a way that attracts the kind of person you want to meet.

And once you’ve hooked up with great people, you need to maintain that attraction with messages that ultimately lead to a video chat, phone call, or date.

In short – it’s hard work. Every single step must lay the foundation for the next step – your success depends on it. But the end result – meeting someone incredible – is totally worth all that effort.

Right now, you’re probably wishing you could just magically meet the right person without putting all the time and effort into your photo selection, profile writing, and strategy planning.

Why does Hinge only show 5 photos?

Hinge’s profile requires you to add six photos, and people can like them and start conversations based on them individually. So they can really tell what kind of photos illicit the most positive responses.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Do you think you’ve become obsessed with your dating profile pictures and finally managed to get them just right? Sorry, but you better think again.

The dating app Hinge has trawled through thousands of its users’ photos and figured out what gets those likes and what gets ignored. The results are quite surprising. Hinge’s profile requires you to add six photos, and people can like them and start conversations based on them individually. This way they can really tell what kind of photos get the most positive reactions.

To get to the bottom of the effect, they tagged thousands of randomly selected photos with 35 different labels (for example: hair up vs. down). The basic takeaway is that you should choose photos that bring out the real you. As Olivia Abramowitz, VP of Marketing at Hinge, told us in an interview, “Your photos should show you in your natural state, doing something you love.”

Credit: Hinge

How can this be implemented in practice? Well, for one thing, you should skip sunglasses and Snapchat filters — or really anything that obscures your face or eyes. Also, Abramowitz said a shocking number of images showed other people who could easily be mistaken for a significant other, and that was a big turn off. So skip the photo of you with your brother no matter how great you look.

Interestingly, posing on the beach also made a photo a lot less likeable — sand shots of women were 47 percent less likely to receive a like, compared to 80 percent of men. Abramowitz thinks this may be related to the fact that Hinge’s audience is less focused on dating and more focused on finding serious relationships. Maybe they just didn’t respond as well to these more revealing photos because they felt less comfortable starting a conversation based on them.

Conversely, it was very appealing to use a photo of you doing a sporting activity. Women were 166 percent more likely to like sports photos; for men it was 45 percent. While it’s possible that many people are interested in finding someone active, Abramowitz suggests these photos work particularly well because they provide people with a natural conversation starter. “Hey, I like tennis too” obviously works much better than a simple “Hey”.

One thing this data makes very clear is that our intuition about what should work kinda sucks. For example, snapshots got 15 percent more likes. But amazingly, 80 percent of the photos people use are staged. Similarly, black and white photos received 106 percent more likes, but only 3 percent of all photos were black and white. Maybe it’s time to reconsider some of our strategies!

Even selfies were taboo. Normal selfies were liked 40 percent less. Bathroom selfies were 90 percent less popular. whop whop (But seriously, never use a bathroom selfie.) Abramowitz suggests that selfies can look too staged or give the impression that you’re trying too hard.

And now for the nitty-gritty details, women were 76 percent more likely to get a like if they smiled in a way that showed their teeth. Facing away from the camera (which increased likes by 74 percent) and standing alone (which increased likes by 69 percent) were also great helpers. And oddly enough, you also wore your hair up, which increased your chances of a like by 27 percent.

Credit: Hinge

For men it was almost exactly the opposite. Looking straight ahead was key, increasing the likelihood that you’ll be liked by a whopping 102 percent. Smiling to avoid showing your teeth was preferred, increasing your chances by 43 percent. But like women, photos of you standing alone performed 11 percent better.

Of course, this is all based on Hinge’s user base – so it’s entirely possible that a bikini shot might work much better in another app. But the general insight here is good. As Abramowitz put it, “The best photo of you isn’t always the best photo to use.” You’re not necessarily looking for the most flattering photo ever taken of you. You look for those who say something about you, even if not every hair on your head is in exactly the right place.

So focus on finding the photos that make you look like you’re doing the things you really love to do. Give them something to talk to you about, and eventually the right people should find their way to you.

How do I select pictures for Hinge?

5 – Use a variety of shots.

4–6 total photos are ideal (6 are required on dating apps like Hinge) – 1 up close-up, 1 action, 1+ travel, 1 environmental and 1 candid photo can round out your profile. 6 – Use photos that will engage suitors, invite them to inquire about the backstory behind the photo.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

10 Worst Dating Photos, Sample Images to Avoid on Your Profile for Guys and Girls, Bumble, Hinge

1 – Don’t post photos with exes. Obviously, but you’d be surprised how many people post photos with ex-boyfriends or possibly cropped ex-boyfriends, or uncapted photos of people who can be mistaken for an ex or current significant other.

2 – Stay away from selfies. Especially fitness, car, and bathroom selfies. Don’t use them unless you’re having an epic selfie on a mountain top, a ski lift, or with a celebrity. Keep the floating heads to a minimum (1 max, if any). Selfies can distort your face and make you appear wider. Read more about using selfies in dating profiles here.

3- Wait with photos of your kids. It’s great that you love your children (actually, it should be understood and needn’t be said), but listing your children (and if they are grown or living at home) on your profile is sufficient for now. However, if you have a pet, make sure you have a photo of your furry friend.

4- Avoid profile photos with sunglasses and hats. People want to see your eyes and your face. If you must, use only one. Use too many or one as your main profile photo and people may assume you have something to hide e.g. B. Hat fishing. Limit yourself to a maximum of 1 per profile and make sure it’s in a suitable environment, e.g. B. Beach, outdoors.

5 – Avoid group shots unless you explicitly tag who you are in the lineup (or it’s otherwise obvious). People don’t want surprises and room changes. Definitely don’t use a group photo as your main profile photo, limit group photos to 1-2 max per profile and make sure your friends aren’t super attractive and significantly taller than you for guys.

6 – No duck faces, no Snapchat filters (no explanation needed), or shirtless photos. It’s one thing to take a picture by the pool at the beach, but photos should be candid and natural, not staged, obvious, or model-like. Keep it classy, not cheesy, or you’ll come across as egocentric, desperate, thirsty, narcissistic, and gross.

7 – Stay away from photos without you in the photo! This is a dating site, not your portfolio gallery. Photos of a pet (unless you are also in the photo but don’t give him mouth hugs), painting, sunset, feet or view offer nothing to admirers. The focus should be on you, not on someone, on something else.

8 – Avoid staged portrait photos and corporate portraits. These are often stiff, lifeless and easily recognizable as staged. People will search you on LinkedIn to get a better look at you, so save this photo for something more candid, natural, as professional portraits will suggest Photoshop or enhancements have been made.

9 – Avoid tiny, distant, blurry and dark photos. People want to see you and what you look like, not a silhouette. These photos suggest you are trying to hide something. It’s okay to have a photo like this (especially if it’s an epic place or destination), but keep it to a minimum.

10 – Avoid looking too intense in photos – Not smiling, focusing too hard, an “intense face”, stuffed eyes, bloated eyes, creepy angles can signal uncomfortable feeling to users. Use bright, warm, inviting photos. Read this guide for more information on how to look too intense.

There are always exceptions to the above guidelines, but the first picture on online dating profiles is crucial. A decision to swipe left can only be made on the first photo alone.

Using one or two of the above photos won’t ruin your chances of success, but if most of your photos fall into one of the above categories, you’ll have a harder time getting people to look past your photos. In general, you should avoid using misleading photos (old photos, weird angles, different appearance).

You want photos that show you in the best light and that represent you. Below are my recommendations for the types of photos to put on a dating profile.

Do I have to have 6 photos on Hinge?

Hinge requires you to have a full 6-photo lineup to “like” other profiles. But scrolling through selfie after selfie isn’t visually interesting, and it definitely won’t give her a glimpse into any interesting hobbies you may have.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

In order to be matched with you on Hinge, she needs to “like” and hopefully comment on a certain part of your profile. So your photos must compel them to do just that.

These 9 Hinge profile picture tips will boost your match rate and grab the attention of the quality, relationship-focused women you most want to meet!

#1: Lead with the “perfect” hinge photo

Don’t worry – achieving perfection doesn’t depend on how you look. It’s about choosing a photo with the most attractive attributes.

And thanks to science, there’s a checklist of qualities a dating photo should have for maximum impact:

#2: Add some photos that invite comments

Hinge requires you to have a full 6-photo lineup to “like” other profiles.

But scrolling through selfie after selfie isn’t visually interesting, and it definitely won’t give her insight into any interesting hobbies you might have.

There’s another downside to the selfie-heavy lineup. The selfie taker (i.e. you) is often perceived as more narcissistic and less likable and attractive than you would have been in a non-selfie picture. Also, 82% of respondents felt that social media could use a lot less selfies.

Photos of you actually doing something are great for comments. Whether you’re hiking, hanging out in a cool place, or interacting with your adorable dog, it’s easy for them to ask you what’s in the photo. And boom – your call is already on.

Make sure to add a caption to some of your Hinge photos or attach a ready-made prompt – this is another easy way to get them to “like” one of your images.

PRO TIP: Dogs aren’t great just because they’re cute. Owning one (or just letting them think you do) can make you appear even more attractive.

She will also perceive you as friendlier, happier, and even more relaxed. There’s another benefit – it lets them know you’re capable of long-term engagement.

Remember that any photo you put on a dating app should be of your good looks. Don’t put an interesting environment (or a puppy) ahead of an unflattering image.

Hinge also lets you upload videos, and it’s a great way to add some visual interest to your profile! Check out these Hinge video tips.

#3: Embrace quality control

Hinge has positioned itself as a “relationship” app, and as such, many of the women in it are looking for a serious app. Your photo lineup should reflect that you take the app seriously.

Make sure all of your images are of high quality. Not only are dark, fuzzy, grainy photos an absolute mood killer, they’re also an excellent reason for them to hit the red X.

And if you add pics with most of your face (or all of it) cut out, she’ll think you just uploaded the first 6 Facebook pics you came across and did it for a day . You want a thoughtful lineup that looks intentional.

This will keep those “likes” pouring in.

#4: Choose “simple” hinge profile images

Numerous studies have shown that the brain has a natural preference for simple images.

That said, you should choose Hinge images that have a low cognitive workload. In other words, it’s easy to understand what’s going on in the frame. The higher the cognitive workload, the less attractive an image becomes.

Do you see the difference a simpler picture makes? Between the blur, the giant yellow scribble, the bright light, and the rampaging dinosaur, there’s a lot going on in this Hinge photo on the right:

Choosing sharply focused, well-lit, and high-quality images goes a long way to being easy on the eyes – and the brain.

#5: Choose your group shots wisely

For starters – don’t run with one. If she guesses wrong whose profile she’s looking at, it means the first thing you left her with was a vague sense of disappointment. Who wants to start on this foot?

But group shots can actually strengthen your lineup. They show that you are a sociable guy who likes to be around and have friends. All attractive qualities! Just be selective about which ones you include.

Make sure you are the center of the group. And when a woman accidentally smiles at you, it’s been scientifically proven to increase your perceived attraction.

Another attraction booster is touching another person in the photo, such as when your hand is on your friend’s shoulder. This gives you more social status than the person you touch in their subconscious.

Do you have a friend who is physically similar to you but a little less attractive than you? Take the opportunity to benefit from the Ugly Friend Effect and include a photo of the two of you. She’ll probably think you’re even more attractive than if you were alone in the picture.

#6: Command the frame

In other words, think of confidence that exudes attitudes of power. The classic victory stance is a good example.

Not only will you appear more confident, sweeping postures make you more attractive to others.

However, the opposite is also true, so keep an eye on your body language. If your shoulders are slumped or your hands are in your pockets and you’re staring at the floor, you’ll have an aura of insecurity that will likely diminish your perceived attractiveness.

#7: Understand how signaling works

Signaling is essentially another word for the take-home message she gets from your photos, and it goes much deeper than just how you look.

Consciously or unconsciously, she evaluates every little detail of your photo and accordingly forms an overall picture of you. The impression you want to leave on her is, “That’s a guy I’d love to spend time with!”

So make sure the background of your photos is aesthetically pleasing — that means no laundry tossed all over the couch or a kitchen sink overflowing with dirty dishes lurking in the periphery.

Needless to say, your bathroom should be clean because you know better than taking a bathroom mirror selfie, right?

#8: Eye Contact = Increased Connection

Since the eyes are the window to the soul, you should think twice about covering them up with sunglasses. Making eye contact, even through a photo, makes a stronger connection than not being able to see your eyes.

There’s also evidence that covering your eyes, whether it’s with a pair of Raybans, your hat, or your long flowing locks, can make you appear less trustworthy.

And Photofeeler researchers found that wearing them also makes you feel less likeable and even less competent.

Hinge Photo Hack: Studies have found that the dark ring that surrounds your iris, known as the “limb ring,” can affect how attractive people find you. The thicker it is, the hotter you are.

Try using an image editor like Pixlr or Photoshop to thicken yours up a bit. But don’t worry – it still has to look natural.

#9: Consider a professional photo shoot

Image quality has been an issue throughout this article, and there’s a reason for that. Poor quality photos can ruin your chances of meeting the kind of woman you want to be in a relationship with.

Professional photos can help your cause, no matter how attractive you are (or not). That’s because a professional knows how to work your best angles, find the most flattering light, and help you pose in a natural and confident way.

This is literally in their job description, so hiring one can give your match rate a huge boost.

Many photographers are now specializing in dating photos and excel at taking natural, candid shots that are miles from plopping you on a stool in front of a boring blue canvas.

Find one you can change outfits with once or twice, and who’s willing to shoot in some lively and interesting locations around town. Since you don’t want to make it obvious that you’ve hired a professional, don’t use more than one photo of you in each outfit at each location.

Can you send photos on Bumble?

Bumble, the dating app that puts the ladies in charge, is today launching a bold new feature. The app has introduced photo-messaging, which may be one of the first times that a mobile dating app has allowed users to send each other direct photo messages.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Bumble, the dating app that puts the ladies in charge, is launching a bold new feature today.

The app introduced photo messaging, which may be one of the first times a mobile dating app has allowed users to send direct photo messages to each other.

The reason for the resistance here is obvious. Users looking for potential love partners are more likely to share inappropriate or lewd images (dick pics) than the rest of the internet, who are already relatively likely to share inappropriate or naughty images. So how can an app allow direct photo messaging without flooding the network with nudes?

According to Bumble co-founder Whitney Wolfe, photo messages represent an opportunity to build a connection, as Bumble asks girls to start the conversation.

“It’s a big risk for a dating app,” says Wolfe. “But we see it as a great icebreaker for girls who want to start a conversation more Snapchat-like.”

This is how it works:

When a user sends a photo message, two things happen immediately. The first is that the photo is blurry unless the user press and hold the screen Snapchat style. Whenever the user holds and the photo is clear, it will be watermarked with the sender’s name and a picture of their face. This prevents someone from sending something they don’t want associated with their identity online forever.

Of course, nothing can stop someone from creating a fake Facebook account and using it to plug into the Bumble app, but Bumble requires a minimum number of friends to ensure people are genuine.

The photo messenger also offers the ability to draw or type a short caption, similar to Snapchat, making Bumble an odd little combo of Snapchat, a Sadie Hawkins dance, and of course, Tinder.

Which makes sense. Bumble co-founder Whitney Wolfe started at Tinder as part of the founding team and helped lead the marketing efforts around this rapidly growing dating app. She left the company last year and filed a lawsuit against Tinder, IAC, and Tinder’s leadership team, alleging, among other things, sexual harassment, sexual discrimination, and wrongful termination. The case was eventually settled out of court, with neither camp admitting wrongdoing.

Wolfe has since built Bumble along with fellow former Tinder employees Sarah Mick and Chris Gulzcynski. The app launched on December 2nd, 2014 and has grown to more than 1 million games.

How many pictures do you put on Hinge?

What does your turn on Hinge mean?

Today, Hinge is introducing its own take on how conversations on dating apps should be handled with a new feature it’s calling “Your Turn.” The idea with “Your Turn” is that it lets users decide – regardless of gender – who makes the first move, and then reminds users when it’s their turn to respond.

2022’s Ultimate Hinge Guide (All The Details You Need!)

Most dating apps customize users and then let them initiate their chat. However, when Bumble launched, it broke new ground by letting women make the first move. Today, Hinge is introducing his own take on how conversations should be handled on dating apps with a new feature called Your Turn. The idea behind “Your Turn” is that users – regardless of gender – can decide who makes the first move and then users are reminded when it is their turn to respond.

In early testing, the company claims the feature helped reduce ghosting behavior on its service by 25 percent.

Hinge CEO Justin McLeod explains that the idea behind “Your Turn” first surfaced in focus groups, where users told the company that they hadn’t always cut off their conversations on purpose. Sometimes they just lost track of the people in their inbox, or 23 percent of the time they were just “busy and forgot.”

The Hinge team then developed a feature that would better flag conversations you hadn’t replied to yet. This resulted in “Your Turn”.

After the first match, where “Your turn” helps get the conversation going, the feature reminds users when it’s their “turn” to respond to the conversation while the chat continues.

This fixes one of the biggest problems with dating apps — conversations can often start off well, but then fizzle out and die down. “Your Turn” is a little nudge someone wants to hear back.

However, when the conversation isn’t going well, Hinge users can now hide the match so they can focus on the conversation where things are going better — that is, where there’s more back-and-forth happening. This helps clean up the inbox without actually having to mismatch users — something people sometimes aren’t willing to do because… well, you know… just in case.

The end result of Your Turn is two-fold – it reduces inbox clutter and makes it clear whose turn it is to chat next.

It’s also worth noting that Your Turn doesn’t make the decision about who should start the conversation based on users’ gender.

“[Hinge users said] they’re fed up with the rules, the games, and being forced to do things they don’t want to do — on both sides,” says McLeod. “It gives you the same benefit of clarity about who should start the conversation without forcing a set of rules on you just based on your gender.”

Hinge says it hosted the function in London and Washington, D.C. last week. tested it with tens of thousands of users and found it reduced the number of matches that didn’t lead to a conversation by 25 percent.

Of course, with just under a quarter of people saying they ghost conversations because they’ve been busy or forgot, that means there’s a larger majority who’ve done the same for other reasons — they might have started making themselves dating someone, they weren’t interested…or maybe you’re just being a little rude.

However, there is no real solution to this larger problem. It’s just a part of the dating app culture these days, and one that can evoke negative feelings about the process in general.

But McLeod says other changes soon to be made to Hinge’s algorithms could help on that front.

“We look for things like that in the algorithm,” he says when asked how apps should deal with people who regularly “ghost” their matches.

“We’re going to be rolling out some pretty significant algorithm changes early in the new year,” notes McLeod. He says the new algorithm will pay more attention to users’ chat behavior, taking into account things like whether the person is just passing but not chatting, or if they’re ghosting.

Hinge doesn’t disclose the number of users, but says it’s now growing 15 percent month-on-month, with the majority of downloads coming from word of mouth. Most of its users also have college degrees, with 90 percent of the user base being between the ages of 23 and 36. The user base has doubled in the last 6 months and is now setting up 100,000 appointments per month (based on phone numbers being exchanged.)

The company was known for experimenting with new ideas in the past. It launched an app for friends who enjoy playing matchmakers and tested a personal assistant service. One of its features — how users comment on individual pieces of content, like text posts and photos — seems to have inspired Tinder’s test of a newsfeed that lets you respond to pots of new photos or other articles.

Hinge’s Our Turn feature goes live today in all markets including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India.

Can You Send Pictures on Hinge? Sending Photos & GIF’s On Hinge Chat

Everyone knows the old saying – a picture says more than a thousand words. Well, that’s usually true, but when we’re talking about online dating, it might be more like this — a picture allows you to speak words at all.

What the hell do I mean by that?

I mean if you don’t have decent pictures on your dating profile you won’t get a lot of likes and if you don’t get a lot of likes you won’t have a lot of potential dates to talk to.

Okay, maybe my reinterpretation of a classic phrase was a bit complicated. But you get the picture.

Those are profile pictures though, so how about pictures in the chat?

Can you post pictures on Hinge and just upload them to your profile?

Can you send pictures in hinge chat?

Hinge’s chat feature is different from chats on other dating apps like Tinder and Bumble because if you like how someone looks, you can express your interest with a message instead of just a swipe.

Specifically, a message about one of their prompt replies or pictures.

This encourages a much more personal conversation starter than the usual silent matching system. You can also shift the responsibility of keeping a conversation going to the other party by using Your Turn.

This feature does exactly what it says on the tin and tells your potential date it’s their turn to ask an incredibly interesting question because you’re all out there.

The main question here is of course, can you send pictures in Hinge chat?

Unfortunately you cannot send pictures in chat. If you want to share more of your vacation photos or send a girl that hilarious pic of you in your little league jersey at five o’clock (classic flirting moment – childhood pics comparison) then you need to chat Hinge on WhatsApp or Snapchat.

On Hinge, you are limited to the power of words. And of course emojis. But do we need more eggplants and peaches in the world at this point?

Can you send GIFS in hinge chat?

Gifs are an absolute gift from the internet gods when trying to charm someone new. In fact, they’re almost always a gift from the internet gods. But what’s better than finding the perfect Twin Peaks gif to show off your excellent retro taste or the perfect penguin gif to dazzle your potential date with cuteness?

Well, unfortunately, the internet gods have no jurisdiction over hinges. You can’t send gifs in Hinge chats! Maybe you could just describe your favorite gif in great detail? Or, alternatively, move things to a more convenient location. Or even better – just go on a date!

This way you don’t have to describe your favorite GIFs but can play them out. And if she’s into that weirdness, well, she’s definitely a Guardian. For a full overview of how Hinge works, see this article.

Can You Send A Picture Via Hinge? Here’s How

Can you send a picture via Hinge? Here’s how

If you’ve ever had a match on Hinge and wished you could send her a photo… you’re not alone!

Even with a Hinge Preferred membership, there is no native option to send a photo to a match.

So what happens when you want to share a photo with your match?

For example, maybe you talked about your garden or the new painting she bought…

You’re lucky!

Today I’m going to describe three ways you can share a photo with your Hinge match 👇

HOW TO SUBMIT A PICTURE ABOUT HINGE STRATEGY #1:

Link the photo to her

One way to send a photo to your Hinge match is to upload it online and then share the link. For example, you can:

Use Google Drive, iCloud or a website like Prnt.sc to upload the photo. Copy the shareable link. Paste the link into your chat

The downside to this strategy is that links from strangers are staggering…

For example, I never click on links I don’t know from strangers, and maybe they don’t either.

She may not even suit you because she is uncomfortable with the link 😬

In short, I don’t recommend this strategy – let’s explore some alternative strategies for sharing photos that are less likely to put them off instead!

HOW TO SUBMIT A PICTURE ABOUT HINGE STRATEGY #2:

Upload the picture to your profile

A smart and personal way to share a photo with your Hinge match that scares her less than linking her to an external website is to simply upload the picture to your profile.

Just replace one of the photos of you on your profile (probably your last photo) with the photo you want to share with her.

Then draw their attention to the photo! You could text her something like:

“Check out what I cooked for dinner tonight 🌮 Apparently you can’t send photos in Hinge chat, so I uploaded it to my profile. Hope you can guess which picture it is 😉”

This strategy is good because it feels the most personal and safest. However, there is another method that is even better because it can create a stronger connection!

HOW TO SUBMIT A PICTURE ABOUT HINGE STRATEGY #3:

Text her the photo

My favorite way of submitting an image to a Hinge match is to not submit it through Hinge at all.

📲 Send your photo to your match instead!

Why?

It’s an excuse to ask for (and get) her phone number!

You can say something like:

“I’m in this amazing terrace bar 🍻 and I want to send you a photo, can I have your number?”

This shouldn’t be the first message you send with a match.

(You need to establish a little trust in the conversation before she shares her number, even if you have a good excuse for asking.)

But it’s a smooth way to escalate things and get away from Hinge!

HOW TO SEND A PICTURE VIA HINGE

Summary and next steps

Today we covered 3 ways to send a photo to your Hinge match:

Tag her with the photo 🔗 Upload the picture to your profile ⏫ Text her the photo 📲

Sharing photos can be the perfect way to legitimize yourself and your hobbies in your Hinge match and keep the conversation going, so I hope this helps ❤️

You can see your potential matches in three feeds – Discover, Standouts and Likes You.

In your Discover feed, scroll through the profiles one by one and either “like” a prompt or photo, or “skip” that profile by tapping the X.

If you like a piece of content, you can also insert a message. This feature makes starting a Hinge conversation a breeze. If this person also “likes” you, a match is formed and the message exchange begins.

Standouts is a limited selection of profiles that changes daily. In this feed, you can see a prompt or photo prompt from a user’s profile, chosen based on similar content you’ve previously liked. Tapping on the profile tidbit brings up the full profile.

In the Like section, free users also scroll through each profile individually.

One of the perks of Hinge Preferred is that you can see everyone you’ve already “liked” at once. Just “Like” them back by tapping the “Conversation” icon and a match will be formed.

When it comes to messaging, Hinge makes it easy to keep track of whose turn it is to send a message. For example, if someone sent you a conversation starter, you’ll see a blue “Your turn” tag in the list of active conversations.

Hinge profiles consist of 6 photos or videos and 3 prompts.

Each answer is limited to 150 characters and there are over 80 prompts to choose from – and the choices change frequently.
