A tried-and-true trick with a power window that won’t open is to press your palm against the glass and “help” the window open as you push the button. If the engine has any life left at all, this may be enough to get it going again.

If you hook up a voltmeter to it, there should be 12 volts while the key is on and ±12 volts when you press the switch.

3. Window motor
Your Subaru Legacy’s power window motors can and do fail over time. You have to remove the door panel to do this. Many of them are riveted in, so be prepared to handle that. If you’ve checked with a voltmeter that it’s getting power but it’s not working, it’s time to get a new one. They are not that expensive, it may just be the challenge of getting them out.
Engine going bad is almost always a slow process. If it’s been hard going upstairs for a while (think the speed of the other windows), that’s a really good sign that it’s the window motor itself.

When it comes to power windows, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone! Well not gone but not working properly.

4. Blown fuse
If you try to operate the broken power window, listen carefully. What do you hear? If you hear the motor behind the door working like it’s trying to move the glass, jump down to Tip #2. But if you don’t hear anything at all when you press the window switch, that could indicate an electrical problem . If no power gets to the window regulator motor, it cannot turn on to move the window. This problem can be caused by a simple blown fuse.
To find out if the fuse has blown, locate the fuse for your power windows and remove it from the fuse box. Your owner’s manual should have a diagram of the fuse box, and a diagram may even be printed on the fuse box cover itself. If the power window fuse has blown, it may just need to be replaced with a new one to get your windows moving again.
