[0.95.1] Slightly Better Tech-Mining
First your mod is a fantastic idea. Tech mining felt very underwhelming baring the occasional stroke of luck and bloated planet inventory with resources mostly useless at this point. And the depletion counter is very handy.
Question though : is it intentional for me to find really powerful stuff very frequently ? First draw on big ruins – “Extensive ruins” – and I got a corrupted nanoforge. I thought maybe begginer’s luck and all that. Then later on lots of hull mods and blueprints, sometimes two or three at a time, and even later on a bioforge factory item … Same planet at a couple month interval. I’m using Tartiflette’s Unknown Skies by the way.
I like your mod a lot on paper but this just offered me some of the best items for this playthrough and I felt like I did not really deserve them yet. Was I unbelievably lucky or is it working as intended ?
Is tech-mining still worth it somehow?
I’ve found a Doom blueprint on the 3rd vast ruins planet I tech-mined, plus alpha-cores and other goodies from first 2 vast ruins planets.
You can always do tech-mining later when you are richer, once you have 2-3 colonies but don’t have 6 planets colonized yet, and no longer worried about income, go out and tech-mine all the big ruins you can find. Then set up your 6 planets colony.
If you are trying to do tech-mining early game hoping to strike big when you are still worried about income then of course it may not be “worth it” depending on your luck, so don’t do it early game, do it mid-game or later.
Tech mining drops
I would say the vaste ruins are still worth it: with the story point upgrade and an alpha core i got atleast one alpha core or an artifact (sometimes you get the corrupted nanoforge…) at the first dig. Also i typical got one more Domain artifact after 12-16 months of mining (2-3 vast ruins at a time). After around 3-5 cycles i would abandoned the colonie (depends mostly on the finding of a new unspoiled vast ruin)
So from personal experience i would hold off on vast ruins till you have atleast an alpha core to put on the building.
I did some extended ruins but never got the feeling they provide anything close enough to justify investing 2 story points into them.
If you want no specific Domain Artifact i would invest the story points into the vaste ruins and not the history-magicman (as you will get around the same amount of extra artifacts but without the increase in cost).
EDIT: One high-roll game i had was 1 pristine nanoforge + 4 Hypershunt taps + 3 minor artifacts (plasma dynamo, biofactory embryo, spoolthing[uncertain if it was from mining or just the vast ruin itself]) + 2 corrupted nanoforge within 5 vaste ruins (they were full upgraded + core)
Was the weight of Hypershunt taps changed? i found them quit often through techmining on different runs (especially from the monthly digs)
