After doing a few searches on r2r I was having trouble finding a good preset for my AI Prime 16HD. The consensus seemed to be that people liked the Saxby preset provided by AI ( https://www.aquaillumination.com/signature_series/david-saxby ). The other popular option was the BRS AB+ setting ().I decided to take the time to combine the two. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:It is kind of the best of both worlds, I think at least. There is some moonlight and fluctuation going on – which seems pretty cool, right?Anyways, I have a Waterbox Cube 20g so my tank is an 18″ cube essentially and my light is mounted 10″ above the water line. I used the BRS numbers at 70% because that is what is best for my tank (mixed tank, mostly LPS and Softies with a few SPS up top).Figured I would share what I made – seems to be working pretty well. 3 x Large Deltec Protein Skimmers (One beside the display aquarium and two in the remote sump room)
Deltec Fluidised Media Reactors running Rowaphos to control phosphate levels
A large Deltec Nitrate Reactor (sump room)
2 x large Fleece Filter Units (One beside the main aquarium, one in the remote sump room)
Large array of U.V Sterilisers (Sump Room)
Bespoke aquarium chiller
Aquarium Flow
Multiple Abyzz A400 and A200 pumps supplying a bespoke internal (up and over) closed loop system, pumps are set to create random flow dynamics within the aquarium.
Sump Room
The sump room resides in a repurposed cellar (10 x 11 feet) some 40 meters from the main aquarium. Due to the elevation Abyzz pumps are used to pump water from the sump room to the display and back again. The flow is controlled by a special system designed by David utilising mercury float switches to maintain the correct water levels at both locations without the use of a gravity siphon.
Water Chemistry
D-D H2Ocean Pro Reef salt is used exclusively and David carries out 10% water changes on a monthly basis
Whilst the enriched Salt mix maintains Magnesium and the majority of minor elements David doses Strontium and Iodine on an ongoing basis and closely watches his levels via ICP testing.
Calcium and Alkalinity are maintained by the use of a large Deltec Twin-Tech Calcium Reactor.
Nitrate is kept at a level of around 2ppm by the Deltec Nitrate Reactor whilst Phosphate levels are controlled by Rowaphos at a level of 0.018 mg/l
Aquarium Alkalinity 7-8dkh , Calcium 440- 450 pm
Livestock
Over 300 fishes that are mainly shoaling varieties and countless SPS and LPS species plus some of David’s favourite Soft corals

I have uploaded the David Saxby (not sure which version) to my AI Prime HD which is over a RR 170.
The levels (percentage) are not particularly high, and the tank does not look that bright compared to other tanks I have seen. What I mean is there is plenty of power not being used.
I have a birds nest coral and GSP plus fish.
Was the preset written for a more powerful light? Can I up the overall levels? Or perhaps is there a better preset?

David Saxby AI Lights settings I know there is a huge thread on AI Lights, but I am more interested in knowing if anyone has an explanation of David Saxby’s settings?
I use a modified version of his settings (albeit with AI Prime HD, not Hydra).
1.) Is there a good reason to use “respiration” intervals? I mean if the corals are “breathing/respirating” at night when there is no light, what is the point during the day? (Most experienced reefers I have spoken to say as long as you give a good 3-4 hours of peak photosynthesis that is all that is required.)
2.) Related to respiration, any idea why he only peaks the whites/blues but not the other colors? Do clouds block blue/white and not the other spectrum wavelengths?
3.) I notice he runs the “Reds” longer than the “Whites, Greens, Violets”…is there any reason doing this. Is it supposed to mimic a sunrise/sunset?
The guy’s tank is stunning, so he obviously knows what he is doing. Just curious if anyone has specifics why he chose these settings.
