When you access a BMW hidden menu, you have access to various service tests. This is helpful if you are trying to test/diagnose the instrument cluster, issues with your car, check coolant temperature, or check real speed.
For example, you can test the instrument cluster is working properly. Check the gauges, display raw sensor data, and even perform some adjustments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a hidden menu on my BMW?
Most BMW 1999 and newer have a hidden On-Board Computer menu. Models with navigation have a hidden menu for the maps, and cars with iDrive may have a hidden menu for the iDrive in addition to the OBC hidden menu.
Why can’t I enter the hidden menu?
Make sure the key is turned with only one click. This is known as the ACC or accessory position. Don’t start the engine. If your car has a START button, press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal.
Where do I get the code to unlock the hidden menu on my BMW?
Add the last five digits of your Vehicle Identification Number. Your BMW VIN is shown on the lower right corner of the windshield or the driver’s door frame.

BMW On-Board Computer Hidden Menu for E90 E91 E92 E93
The BMW E9X (E90, E91, E92, E93) 3Series produced between 2004 to 2013 is a great machine offered with various engines and bodystyles to suite anyone. Whether or not you are a new owner or have owned it for a few years , you might not be aware that BMW has worked in some undocumented hidden features and kept them a secret. Here’s a very short peek of the many features you can access, some are cool and some can help you service your:
Be able to switch the temperature units readout.
Light up your dashboard like a Christmas tree – useful to find faulty lights.
The current speed readout in a digital format – useful when comparing You can check your speedometer’s accuracy with an external GPS.
Fuel sender unit debugging by knowing how many liters of fuel are currently in the tank.
Actual VIN number of the car – useful when buying the car and want to make sure that all matches to what is in the engine bay.
Accessing the secret menus To access these hidden menus you have to: Turn ignition on, or start your car
Press and hold the button to reset the daytrip/odometer for 10 seconds To access these hidden menus you have to:
Navigating through OBC
At this point the OBC should display data in a “XX.YY” format.
e.g. If the BC displays “01.00”, that means Main Menu 01, sub menu 00 To toggle between the menus, you need to use again the odometer button:
While the display reads XX.__ press the button repeatedly to select the main menu option (XX) when reaching the desired main menu option, wait for 2 second for the display to read XX.00, at this time pressing the button will select the sub menu (YY)
To go back to selection of a main menu (XX), press and hold the button for 2 seconds, until it shows XX.__ again.
To leave the hidden/service menus press and hold the button for 10 seconds, or remove the key.
Unlocking Secret Menus
Unlock code needs to be calculated from adding the last 5 digits of your VIN number together. Say your VIN is XX12345, you take the last 5 digits (12345 in this case), and add them all up, so 1+2+3+4+5=15. Meaning your unlock code is 15.
To enter the unlock code, go to main menu 19, and wait until it asks for the unlock code. Now press the button until it reads your unlock code (15 in our example), and the display will show ‘lock: off’.
Now all menus are available.
By default the available main menus are 01, 02 and 19. To access the remaining menus a secret code is required which can be found under menu 01.00.
Note: The main trick, is to not take too long before you enter input, if you wait too long, the thing times out and takes you back to the regular readout.

E90 Menu Unlock I’ve got 2 questions for you:
1) I read a trick on the MT web site to unlock the BMW menu.
I would like to know if some had tested it ? and if yes, what arrived ? and how to relock the menu.
here is what I read:
For ‘navigation’ in the menu’s, use the ‘mileage reset button’.
To get IN the menu’s push that button for approx. 15 sec.
Keep it pressed until you get the “01.__” in the display between the RPM and speedo-meter.
“XX.YY” means the menu-numbers.
If you want increase the “XX” part, push the ‘mileage reset’ button for approx. 2 sec.
As soon as you see “XX.__”, you can increase XX by pressing the ‘mileage reset’ button.
Every ‘push’ increases “XX”. If you want to increase the “YY”, when the display shows,
for exmaple “01.00”, then every ‘push’ on the ‘mileage reset’, will increase the “YY” value.
01.00 FGSTNR = “Fahrgestellnummer” (Chassisnumber)
01.01 K-ZAHL W/T
01.02 BMWTNR
01.03 COD DIA
01.04 KI HSTL DATUM = “Herstellungs Datum” (Manufactored/Essembled on date…)
01.05 ???
01.06 SW
01.07 KODIERDATEN
01.08 CAN
02.00 KI TEST = Dashbord test. All light, gauges, displays and so on will light up,
move…. works only when the engine is NOT running.
03.00 ??? (maybe it will show something after your first ‘service’, motoroil change)
04.00 MOM VBR = actual fuel consumption
04.01 RW-VBR-MOM = fuel consumption per hour
05.yy average fuel consumption
06.00 how much you have in your ‘tank’ in liters. Left- and Right compartment and Total
06.01 dito in hex?
07.00 KTMP-MOM = Temp. Cooling Fluid (celcius)
07.01 ATMP-MOM = “Aussentemperatur” Temp. Outside (celcius)
07.02 dito in hex?
07.03 N-MOT-MOM = RPM
07.04 N-VWF-MOM = max. RPM at the moment. E60 it gives a vlaue. E90 it shows “—–”
08.00 V-EFF = exact speed
08.01 V-ANZ = “Anzeige” speed shown on dash..
08.02 V-SZ
08.03 D-GESCHW 1 WEG
08.04 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT
08.05 D-GESCHW 2 WEG
08.06 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT
09.00 Voltage
10.00 KM/WOCHE
11.00 ??? , has to do how the time will be displayed
11.01 km or miles
11.02 Celcius or Fahrenheit
11.03 how to display fuel consumption. km/l or l/100km or mpg
12.00 V-ANKUNFT = arrival time 12.01 ANK-ZEIT = time of arrival
13.00 AUDIO = all(?) sounds. Like the ‘boing’ of the ‘light on warning’
14.00 FS EINTRAEGE = error messages (if any)
15.00 Oil temp??
16.00 Dashbord lighting.
17.00 Temp inside in the car??
18.00 CC-TEST = you can see some of the ‘check control’ messages.
Look also at the iDrive screen!
19.00 UNLOCK
20.YY to 23.YY ???
That UNLOCK stuff is also important.
If not UNLOCKed, you can only see menu’s 01 and 02.
In the ’19’ menu you must ‘click-in’ a unlock code.
That code you can calculate from the “FGSTNR” number.
You must add the last 5 figures of that FGSTNR number. for example:
: XXXXXX12345 the unlock code will be: 1+2+3+4+5=15
20.YY to 23.YY There is more to discover……
2) I have the iDrive with 8″8 screen but not the TV option. I would like to know if it is possible now to add the TV option easily (of course it would have been better to choose it at the beginning )
Thank you by advance for your answers
