The wall hip lock exercise is the easiest way to train the hip lock. This is an attractor of running and trains the co-contraction of muscles around the hip
The attractors of movement remain constant regardless of the situation while fluctuators alter depending on the situation or environment. If we can deepen the attractor wells of the specific movement, then the movement will become more economical and robust when performing it in whatever scenario is presented. For example, the lock position of the hip or keeping the head still are attractors of running meaning whether you are sprinting in a straight line, changing direction or stepping to beat a player, these 2 things should remain constant.

Recently I have been playing around a lot with the exercise concepts and ideas that Frans Bosch talks about and implements within his day to day practice when working with athletes across the globe. In the image below you will see an example of the overhead (dumbbell loaded) single leg hip lock drill that can be incorporated into ones strength and conditioning program for runners. The aim of this is to create co contraction and stiffness through the torso and hip which is an important component of running efficiently.

This blog post was written by osteopath Heath Williams of Principle Four Osteopathy. Principle Four Osteopathy is one of Melbourne City CBD leading Osteopathy clinics. At the clinic we treat a wide range of clients, ranging from the office worker, exercise enthusiast to athlete. We have 3 experienced osteopaths working across both of the clinics. First, determine which level of analysis suits you best. If you have any questions about this you can contact us. Then select that level and go through the form.

An account will be created and you will enter your personal portal. Here you’ll see which tasks you should complete before we can start the analysis. Simply Tick Off all the boxes and we will contact you once we have completed the analysis. We then plan a video call to discuss the analysis and the optional training program. Depending on which level, this cycle repeats itself a number of times.
