Ever wonder how to wire up Lace Sensor Dually Pickups into Seymour Duncan Triple Shot Rings?
In this video I’m using Lace Sensor Dually Humbuckers (Purple and Emerald) and wiring them into Seymour Duncan Triple Shot Rings using the REVERSE WIRING schematic. I prefer this schematic over the standard wiring, but it’s really easy to switch between the two.
The Triple Shot Rings allow for either single coil to be active or the humbucker to be active in series or parallel. This allows for a multitude of combinations when paired with another humbucker wired into a triple shot ring. As a matter of fact, there are 24 different combinations! (Wire in a phase switch and the number of combinations extends even further!

How can I test my pickup if I think it is not functioning properly? The surest way to confirm a pickup is functioning properly, is to take a resistance/ohms reading with a multi-meter. There is a Tech Specs pull down menu on each pickup page that contains the proper resistance for that particular pickup. If the reading you get is within spec, then your pickup is functioning properly, and the issue lies elsewhere….most likely in the wiring.

What tools will I need to install Lace pickups? At a minimum, you will need a soldering iron and solder, a small Philips Head screw driver and wire cutters/snips.
Is it difficult to install Lace pickups? No, however some soldering experience is recommended. If you are not confident about your soldering skills we recommend you review a few YouTube videos on the subject prior to attempting to solder.

How do 250k pots and 500k pots differ from each other? A 250k pot will offer you a much wider and detailed taper, or roll off. 500k pots are generally used to brighten up inherently dull traditional humbucker pickups. They have a much shorter and less user friendly taper.
Can the covers on the pickups be removed or changed? No. The covers are epoxied onto the pickups and cannot be removed. Attempted removal will render the pickup inoperable and void any warranty, written or implied.

How can I ground my Lace acoustic guitar pickup on my acoustic guitar or resonator? You can attach a Plate Mate or copper tape under the bridge of your instrument. You will need to solder a ground wire from there to the ground lug of the input jack.
“To easily ground the strings, go to the Stewart McDonald web site and obtain a Plate Mate. This is a brass plate with holes spaced to match the bridge pin spacing. Measure your pin spacing and obtain the correct version. Before you install, solder a flexible stranded wire (about 1 foot) to the metal plate mate and connect the other end to the output jack ground connection or metal braid of the pickup lead. I like the Lace Alumitone tone since I installed one on my Gibson Les Paul CM and I wanted more possibilities for my SG. So, I went ahead and tried something.
My SG had Classic ’57 PAF and I don’t like them so much on this guitar. They are were perfect on my ES-339 but I wanted something different on the SG.
OK, so… the point was : is it possible to wire Alumitone humbuckers in a Jimmy Page way?
I wasn’t sure of that, because the Alumitone technology is way different than a regular humbucker. The Alumitones are “splittable” but it is not a real split as they are not made of 2 coils in series but have a very different design.
I asked the question directly to Lace and they kindly answered this:
Hello. I have attached a Jimmy Page diagram courtesy of our friends at Duncan. From what I can tell, the Alumitone pickups will work. You will need to use this diagram to split the Alumitones: http://www.lacemusic.com/pdf/14.pdf

OK, let’s go!
I took the Seymour Duncan diagram (actually a different version from the one Lace sent me), replaced the wires colors with Lace’s and tag the CTS pins (only the 250k CTS push/pull can fit in the SG’s cavity without routing), and ended up with my own diagram :
The parts I used:
I chose an Alumitone humbucker for the neck, and a Deathbucker for the bridge.
Note: At first, my intention was to use a 4pin JST connector (top center on the above picture) to ease the pickup manipulation, but they were too small to fit in the pickups wires, so I did without.
My first impression on the blank cardboard I draw, was “hmmm, not so much room here”…
Indeed…
But at the end, everything fitted in the cavity!
… and I could put the plate back on without any trouble.
The guitar looks exactly like before, thanks to the Deceptor version of the Alumitone which has a chrome cover:
… except if you look closely to the pickups because the “screws” are fake of course.
And…
Everything works fine! Great tones in any position!!!
