The distance from points and edges can be measured, and the measurement result is displayed in a dialog. This contains the coordinates of both the measured elements, the distances of the measured points and the shortest distance between the two measured elements.
The measured points and are projected onto a mounting surface and correlated with each other there, i.e., the projected points on this mounting surface are then also visible during the measurement. If the measured points are not on a common mounting surface, the measured values are relative to the origin of the layout space.
Color display of measuring points:
Red: first measured point Yellow: second measured point Green: points on the mounting surface to which the measurement is projected.
Preconditions:
You have opened a project.
The layout space navigator is open and a layout space is open.

Measure distance between pads
before I used to measure distance between center of pads , vias , traces and mechanical holes by starting rout trace, goes to center of a pad , the sticky mouse points on the center then press space to reset the relative X,Y the goes to other pad and precisely measure the distance .
today when I press the space key it does not reset the relative X,Y
this is very important for precise results . also it is very useful to have air gap measurement between pads and traces
can someone help ?

By setting a “Measurement Item” and “Measurement Target”, it is possible to measure various target distances.
A ruler calculates the shortest distance between objects excluding arbitrary points, so if you zoom in to the screen, the measurement results may be shown outside of the screen.

There are three types of Measurement Items.
Item Description Any Two Points It is possible to select points freely as a reference point for measurement. Object It is possible to specify an object as a reference point for measurement. Segment It is possible to specify a segment as a reference point for measurement.

There are two types of measurement targets. You can also combine different measurement targets.

The measurement is also displayed visually within the design space, showing the measurement’s X, Y, and direct distances. The direct (shortest) distance is shown in yellow, with the X and Y distances in light blue. The measurement is also entered as an entry in the Messages panel. Continue measuring the distance between other points or right-click or press Esc to exit measurement mode. To clear previous measurements from the design space, press Shift+C.

The easiest way to measure a distance, is to draw a line, in any convenient layer, any BMP layer is OK, you can leave it, or remove it as you please.
Draw the line say 0.001 mm wide, with high resolution grid, wire bend style2, and then check the properties of that line, one will be length.
