RollerCoaster Tycoon

Gravity Gardens is a paid to enter park, with a goal of a park value of $500,000. The catch is that you can only build rollercoasters. Luckily, from the beginning you have access to all of the major styles of rollercoasters, and can even research more. I started out this park by building a small reverse incline corkscrew coaster, and then deleting all of the extra paths and scenery. In this scenario I also did not build any bathrooms. I think it helped decrease the time guests were in the park, and thus increased the number of park entrance tickets.

In addition to about $10k in paths and scenery, the park comes with one wooden rollercoaster already in it. It is pretty good, and is not placed too terribly (like most of the other rides in scenarios), so I kept it. I built another corkscrew coaster next to it.

I also built a food and drink stall, as some of the guests had been in the park for a long time already. Knowing that I had to have a park value of $500,000, and only being able to build rollercoasters, I tried to keep the size of all the rides down, and keep them as close together as possible. I decided to build a Wild Mouse rollercoaster, as they are very easy to keep small.

These are one of my least favorite rides to build, because I either have them way too intense or have them way too boring. This one turned out pretty decent, and as you can see, kept to a very small area.

It was now halfway through Year 1 and I was nearly a quarter of the way to the goal. I studied guests for a short while and noticed that they were bringing around $60-80 to the park so I raised the entrance fee to $50. One difficult part of this scenario is that after a year, a ride can get “old”, which decreases its value. I had to make sure that I kept building more rollercoasters, so even when rides did lose value, I was still adding enough new rollercoasters to overcome this.

In the top right corner I built a Junior Rollercoaster, I tried to make it more exciting and more intense by having a fairly high speed, and I did that by having a tall lift hill, and dropping all the way down on the first drop. Instead of a 4 intensity, it was a 6. I did this because I expected most of the guests to be adapted to higher intensity rides, because there was only rollercoasters in the entire park.

I built another corkscrew rollercoaster next to it, and then I built another Wild Mouse.

At the end of Year 1 my park value was up to $200,000, almost halfway to the $500,000 goal. As you can see, I was spending about $3,000 a month on building new rollercoasters, and getting around $6,000 from park entrance tickets.

I also built another Corkscrew rollercoaster on the other side of the original wooden ride.

I wasn’t feeling too creative so I built another Junior rollercoaster. I then decided that I needed path the park a little bit better, so I created a loop for the right half of the park, most of which went underground.

After building all of the upper right section of the park, I moved to the upper left section.

I started this section by laying down a path, and then building a Corkscrew rollercoaster at the top, and then a Wild Mouse in that corner, because there was not much room for any other style of rollercoaster. At this point my park value was around $275,000. Since I also had a lot of extra cash, I decided to start making the more expensive types of rollercoasters.

The first one I built was a Twist rollercoaster. I like these and they usually turn out with stats like this one. One of my goals for this rollercoaster was to have a corkscrew go through a loop, and I got it to work twice.

I then built a wooden rollercoaster, which turned out to have pretty similar numbers. I was pretty happy with the way this rollercoaster turned out, I wanted to integrate it with the Twist rollercoaster more, but there just wasn’t enough room.

The next rollercoaster I built was a Slide Friction rollercoaster. I don’t really like these, for the same reason I don’t like Wild Mouse rides. I decided to build one for guests that had really low intensity and nausea, but it turned out to be a pretty medium ride instead.

I went back to building big rollercoasters with this teal Stand Up Twist rollercoaster. I didn’t want to have too high of a lift hill, so I decided to exclude vertical loops because they require such a high speed, compared to corkscrews. Then it turned out that my lift hill was still way higher than I actually needed, but the ride turned out fine anyway.

It was nearly the end of Year 3, and the park value was $400,000. Also each month I was averaging around $7,500 in entrance tickets, allowing me to build up a lot of extra cash. I was in a great place to just power through and build some giant rides to get the $500,000 park value goal.

In this spot I originally intended to build a Mine rollercoaster, however it seems that in RCT2 you are not allowed 3 trains, which severely limits the effectiveness of rollercoasters. Instead I just built another Wooden. I tried to keep this one more compact, to leave room for the next few rollercoasters.

I gave another go at the Stand Up twist, this time with one half loop, and so the lift hill had to be slightly higher. It was a little more intense than I wanted, but it is mainly attributed to the loop causing the speed to be pretty high. Also I wanted to make the ride just a bit longer, but ran out of room and didn’t want to make the ride really long.

I then made an Inverted rollercoaster, my goal for it was to keep it between the two hills, but that didn’t turn out so well. I needed the extra room for some of the turns. On this ride I probably had the lift hill too high as well, which caused the very high intensity, however guests still rode it.

I started building a Wooden right next to the Inverted, and then I got his message

I was pretty impressed how fast I actually beat this scenario. I was worried about rides getting old and then the park value decreasing, but I was earning enough money from entrance tickets that my building out paced the deprecation of those old rides. This scenario is also great for people who just want to build rollercoasters because you can set the entrance fee so high, and are required to only build rollercoasters.

RCT 2: Gravity Gardens Completed.

I have been developing my Gravity Gardens park for a couple weeks, and just completed it. I think it’s probably one of the toughest to complete, as the park value goes up and down like a yo-yo for no apparent reason. I had a park Value of $487,000 at one time. Did nothing to the park, and the value dropped to $432,000. In a very short time. Here are some stats.

37 coasters. Company value $537,141.00….Park value $537,364.00…total admission: $1,293,598.00

4818 guest in park, cash on hand $12,118.00…total park guests. 28,468. which averages to $45.00 per guest. Though my last gate admission was $50.00

The hardest part about Gravity Gardens, is all the paths that need to be created, and handy men needed to keep cleaning them. It seems, even if you give the handy men in Gravity gardens a 6 square work area, they still can’t seem to keep it clean. I have 47 handymen in the park, and was spending over $4,000 a month on employees.

The trick to Gravity gardens is to nip the paths at the bud at the get go. Break off areas that you are not going to use, until you are ready to build in those areas. Otherwise guests will wonder your entire park, and leave their garbage all over the place. I have learned that trash barrels are useless, because the guests don’t use them, and the Handy men don’t change them. Your park rating goes down, and guests don’t stay long, and you lose big money at the get go hiring staff to clean all those paths. I also removed the entrances to the fountain paths, because guests go in there and get lost. Removing all those paths, also gains you money to build rides.

Another thing that works well to gain cash to build, is wait until you have about 3,000 guests in your park, then close all the rides, and leave only shops that make money open, and charge for restrooms. Guests will get upset, and leave in droves. Wait until those 3,000 guest have dropped down to under 1,000. Re-open all the rides, and anything else you closed. Put the restrooms back to free, and start advertising your park. Guests will return, and with so many guests gone, there is also less litter to clean, so you park will be cleaner too. Also and easy way to make quick ride cash.

I made almost $35,000 on the guests that returned.
