A Look at The Sephora VIB Rouge Welcome Kit Featuring NARS Goulue
I think I renewed for Sephora VIB Rouge in October but they didn’t have the new Welcome Kits available in store or online until just recently. The new Sephora VIB Rouge Welcome Kits, as you already know from my prior posts, now contains NARS Goulue Blush vs the Bite Beauty VIB Rouge Creme Lipstick that’s been available for a while.
NARS Goulue Blush is available in full size for Sephora VIB Rouge members only but the Sephora VIB Rouge Welcome Kit does come with a mini version of the blush you can test try out for yourself. So you’ll either get the kit upon renewal or if you just recently hit VIB Rouge status you’ll also be offered the kit.
I actually prefer the Bite Lipstick! Dont’ get me wrong, Goulue is a nice shade but Bite Beauty’s VIB Rouge Creme Lipstick is one of those colors that just rocks my socks!
Anyway, for those coming up for Sephora VIB Rouge renewal or those just about to hit this Welcome Kit is what you can expect to receive!

When I heard about VIB Rouge this morning, the first thing I did was check my account to see how close I was to qualifying. When I learned that I only had $52 to go, well, I knew what I had to do. After work, I made a beeline for Sephora – here’s what I got.
The box for the VIB Rouge Welcome Kit is much larger and made of more substantial cardboard than the regular VIB Welcome Kit. On top is a little insert that tells you a bit about the program, which contains all the same information as the Sephora website.
Under the info insert are the goods: a shiny new VIB Rouge card (and it is shiny, I just took the photo from an angle where it wouldn’t glare) and an exclusive Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick mini in the exclusive color Rouge. A full size is available for Rouge members on the Sephora website.
These photos were taken under natural light. I compared it to Bite Beauty Tannin (far left) and Givenchy Le Rouge Grenat Initie (far right). As you can see, when swatched Rouge and Tannin are almost indistinguishable. In the tube and on the lips though, Rouge is a little warmer and slightly less glossy.
So that’s the welcome kit! I also bought some stuff of course – I’ve been eyeing these things for a while. For now enjoy the photos & swatches – reviews will be coming soon!

I want to order some things online soon and get my welcome kit at the same time. I tried a test to see if it would show up in my basket and it didn’t. I’m not sure what I have to do to get it added to my next online order but I would really like to make sure I can get it.

I’m just going to say it now, I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE MORE THINGS. Now that I got that off my chest, I’m a bit disappointed with this kit. The VIB Kit had some coupons that I could use, like a free makeover, free shipping on one purchase of any amount and a percentage off my next purchase.
Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in VIB Rouge (2 g/0.07 oz). It’s a nice shade of brick red that makes me feel like a top ranking executive in a major corporation because the color is dark but not vampy. I don’t know if this is a color I’d wear in the daytime but for nighttime or the Fall season, it would be perfect. Since I have already invested $1000 USD (yikes!) into Sephora, the least they could’ve done was include a full size lipstick. Instead, they give you the option to buy it online for $28 USD–what?? ᕙ(｀皿´)╯There’s another limited edition hot pink shade that retails for $24 USD but really? My favorite high end lipstick is the Bite Beauty ones, I get it for $18 USD. The Bite Beauty Lipsticks are supposedly all natural–so natural, in fact, that you can eat it! (but that would be a very expensive, $28 USD snack, imo). BareMinerals also claims to be all natural and while $18 USD isn’t cheap for a lipstick, it’s a $10 difference that I can put towards another beauty purchase (though I’m not going to be doing any of that for a long time). With VIB Rouge, you get unlimited makeovers (not that I took advantage of them before), free shipping for the year you qualified (that’s nice), and a mini size of the VIB Rouge-exclusivein(2 g/0.07 oz). There are other perks of being VIB or VIB Rouge, such as access to some limited edition kits from Laura Mercier, Becca, and Josie Maran to name a few. You’ll also get access to Rouge-only events and special seasonal gifts but I haven’t received or attended any so I can’t speak to how awesome those perks are. I’ll update this post or have a new post when I take advantage of those perks.
But I guess I expected too much for something like this. It doesn’t mean I won’t stop shopping at Sephora but I much prefer the perks that Ulta gives (points can be redeemed for money off the next purchase, 2X or 3X points earning during certain weeks, etc.). With this initial package, I’m a bit disappointed. But who knows, I still have 6 months or so of VIB Rouge so things can still look up for me.

In case you don’t know, Sephora VIB Rouge status is awarded to those who spend $1000 per calendar year. Once qualified, you’ll stay Rouge until the end of next year. For example, I qualified in March 2015, I’ll be a Rouge until 12/31/2016. 🙂

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in So Rouge
The VIB Rouge Welcome Kit 2015 features a deluxe sample of Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in So Rouge which is a deep, vivid, true red that I think will look fantastic on most skin tones. It has a super creamy texture that completely glides on the lips leaving a fully opaque finish in one pass. It doesn’t settle into lip lines, bleed, or feather on me but it does emphasize the texture of my lips just a tiny bit.
The bullet tip was designed in such a way that makes it easy to apply along the edges of the lips without having to use a lip liner (although it would make things a bit more polished if you do use one). In the photo below, I applied So Rouge on my bare lips (without a liner) and you can just see how smooth the finish is! It applies a satin initially but will dry down to a good matte that is fairly moisturizing.
It boasts “10 hours of luxurious wear” but on me, So Rouge doesn’t last more than a few hours. It also transfers easily especially in the beginning of wear. At least I’m glad that when it fades, it leaves a bit of a soft red stain so my lips still have some color left. The formula doesn’t have any scent or taste and comes in a Sephora-inspired red casing. I believe the VIB Rouge Renewal Kit also features the same gift as the Welcome Kit but don’t quote me on that!
