Shifting a 3 stick mack transmission.
explanation-One stick is the main. Think of it as a normal shifter in a car 1-4 or 1-5.
2nd stick is for a gear spliter. Once you gone through all 5 gears you shift the spliter and then shift your main stick through the gears again 1-4.
Im not sure what the 3rd stick in the video is for unless its an auxiliary add on or something.

Just when you thought that you had gotten down the basics driving a stick shift and getting ready to step up to a couple of more complex maneuvers, along comes something that you may or may not have seen before that will throw a whole wrench in the gears and make you wonder how the heck they do it! When it comes to shifting a big truck, sometimes, things can be a little bit more complicated as extra gear levers are thrown into the mix so these massive machines can get moving without a hitch!
In this one, we follow along with the driver inside of their rig that uses not one or two but three sticks to shift the heavy duty machine. Sometimes, the driver even has to use both hands to move one lever out of gear and the next into gear. It seems like an incredibly confusing concept to an outsider like myself but, after a little bit of practice, it looks like this driver most certainly has it down pat, almost to the point where it becomes second nature. Even if you have no idea what’s going on here and only understand the basic concepts, it still ends up being a lot of fun to watch!

OT: Semi truck with 3 stick shifts
It is retarded.
Only one is actually a “stick”. The other two huge levers just activate tiny air switches that engage the air cylinders to split the ranges. This is normally done with tiny switches that you flick with your finger or thumb.
This is probably an Eaton 13 or 18 speed. He has a 5 speed “stick” and a high and low range. Then he can split the 5 gears in either the high range or both. Usually, you can’t use the 5th gear change in high range.
So a 13 speed would have 5 gears in low range. 4 gears in high range, plus a split of the 4 in high (8).
An 18 speed would be 5 gears in low range with a split (10). Then 4 gears in high range plus a split (8)
Back in the day they did make two stick transmissions. They were basically two transmissions bolted together. Usually a 4 speed and 3 speed, but up to a 5 speed and 4 speed. As I recall, there were a few ratios that overlapped, so you could have the main in 4, and the aux in 2, and have pretty much the same ratio as having the main in 3 and the aux in 3. I never put a lot of miles on one, but they are kind of neat.
I drove a Mack with a 4×3 two stick trans. You could shift through 3 gears in reverse.
