The video shows the first results of the project BesMan using the DFKI’s robot AILA. The robot autonomously executes a given highlevel action plan in order to perform some operations on a mockup of the International Space Station (ISS). On the one side, a software framework and an accompanying embedded domain specific language (eDSL) have been developed to describe and control robot manipulation behaviors and keep their descriptions (and the descriptions of the tasks) independent of a particular robot. Thus, the same robot highlevel behaviour can be reused on robots of different morphology and/or hardware. On the other side, a wholebody reactive control approach is used in order to automatically find an optimal usage all the available degrees of freedom at runtime.
BesMan is a cooperation project of the Robotics Innovation Center of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Robotics Group at the University of Bremen.
This project is funded by the German Space Agency (DLR Agentur) with federal funds of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in accordance with the parliamentary resolution of the German Parliament, grant no. 50 RA 1216 (DFKI) and 50 RA 1217 (University of Bremen).

CEATEC Japan 2018: [Time Lapse] Autonomous Tidying-up Robot System


PFN will exhibit a fullyautonomous tidyingup robot system that uses advanced deep learning technology at CEATEC 2018.

The robot system has been awarded the SemiGrand Prix in the Industry/Market category at CEATEC Award 2018, which recognized innovative technologies, products, and services from among a large number of exhibits at CEATEC JAPAN 2018.
This system is the first of its kind that can automatically keep a cluttered room neat and tidy at a practical level, something that has been difficult to achieve using conventional robot system. Thanks to the rapid advancement of deep learning technology in recent years, PFN has utilized cuttingedge deep learning techniques to enable the robot to recognize objects and understand spoken language as well as controlling the robot. As a result, the robot is able to quickly and accurately grasp and place objects, how to plan its movements, follow human instructions, all of which are essential for a robot to work in the human living space.
PFN uses HSRs (Human Support Robots) developed by Toyota Motor Corporation in this demonstration.
