By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream Review

I used to not appreciate moisturizers much. For years, I thought I didn’t need any since my skin is combination / oily (wrong). Then I finally embraced them, but was not as excited about creams as I was about toners and other skincare routine steps. Now I can officially say that a great moisturizer can be a game changer.

I chose By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream to try because it seemed interesting. It’s a daily moisturizer with gentle exfoliating LHA and PHA. The cream promises to improve the look of pores, pigmentation, and help normalize sebum production. The 63% hibiscus flower extract is rich in antioxidants and supports the PHA and LHA functions.

By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream is available on* Wishtrend , eBay , YesStyle (use the reward code KBHOBBIT for an extra discount), and Amazon .

How to use:

Apply at the end of your skincare, morning and/or night

Follow with SPF if using in the morning

The pink hue of the product comes from hibiscus and vitamin B12, not from artificial colors. The product is cruelty free, doesn’t contain artificial fragrances, and is vegan friendly.

According to the brand, the cream can be used with vitamin C and niacinamide, but is not recommended right after physical exfoliation. If using By Wishtrend mandelic acid (review here ) or By WIshtrend vitamin C, let them absorb fully for about 10 minutes before applying the cream. Always use SPF.

My impressions

This is a great product for those who want to tackle skin texture, overabundance of sebum, and hyperpigmentation but in a gentle way. I’m not into strong acids that sting and cause peeling. I like the “lesser dose, more frequent application” approach, and the By Wishtrend hibiscus cream gives me that.

The gel texture is light and pleasant to use, not at all sticky. I don’t notice a scent. I apply the cream in the evenings after the rest of my routine. I skip it on days that I use retinol. I haven’t had any issues doing a physical exfoliation and the cream on the same evening, but please remember that everyone’s skin is different – always listen to and pay attention to yours.

Do not expect miraculous overnight results. However, with regular use, my skin became smoother and softer, and the look of pores improved. I can’t speak about the sebum production right now, because during the winter my combination skin gets more dry regardless. My guess is something improved, explaining the smaller looking pores (since that is driven by sebum as well).

I think this is worth a try if you are looking for a gentle, consistent product to introduce to your routine. I’m personally really enjoying the benefits and the application process itself. I would happily get another jar.

[Review] By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream

It took me a while to be okay with chemical exfoliants although I have to admit I’m still coward to try anything that’s not labeled for “sensitive skin”. I do think I’m more comfortable than before because with the right exfoliating products, you can actually have healthier skin. Exfoliating the skin is just as important as protecting it with SPF, properly cleansing or moisturizing daily. I never thought of it as being non-negotiable until I used the Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water which really allowed me to understand how important it is to exfoliate regularly. I belatedly realized it didn’t really matter how great my other products were if I had this barrier made up of clogged pores and skin waste preventing them from effectively penetrating my skin.

The Acid-Duo Hibiscus Cream is a light cream type exfoliant that you may use on a daily basis. It consists of LHA and PHA which has exceptional exfoliating capabilities but are known to be less irritating and perfect for sensitive skin. It not only improves clogged pores and sebum, but it can also help minimize pigmentation and help with a dull complexion. As the main ingredient, it consists of 63% Hibiscus Flower Extract that are rich in antioxidants and help support the effectiveness of LHA and PHA.

This time around, I decided to try a chemical exfoliant in the form of a cream. The Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream is By Wishtrend’s second release featuring duo LHA & PHA, the first being a cleanser. The cream caters to the sensitive skin crowd and claims to be gentle and fantastic for daily use. You can pair this with other exfoliating products, except for physical exfoliators. The formula is vegan, free of ethanol, artificial coloring and fragrance.

The Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream contains 63% Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, 0.5% Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (LHA), 0.1% Gluconolactone (PHA). I didn’t know there were so many who actually had a difficult time handling acids because everywhere I had looked before, people were talking about their tolerance levels and I was convinced then I would burn my skin raw if I attempted what these people were slathering on their skin. I had no clue there were a ton of others like myself who wanted to exfoliate but with gentler alternatives. The demand seems to be currently high because I’m definitely seeing more LHA, PHA, and other acids constantly cropping up that are supposedly milder acids capable of achieving similar or the same results on skin.

Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract – loaded with anti-oxidants, the extract can diminish lines and wrinkles, help the skin appear more youthful. It also contains AHA to speed up cell rejuvenation.

LHA – a derivative of Salicylic Acid that aids in digesting the bond that holds together dead skin cells. LHA has a higher molecular weight and higher pH which means its less likely to irritate the skin. It’s tough on acne but gentle on skin.

PHA – works like an AHA without the potential irritation. PHA works by exfoliating dead skin cells and hydrating the skin at the same time. It is unable to penetrate the skin but this makes it great for those with sensitive skin.

The Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream comes with 50ml of product and is housed in a plastic container. The container is opaque and no spatula is included.

The cream owes its light pink hue to Hibiscus Flower Extract and Vitamin B12. The cream has a very flowy texture, if that makes any sense. The texture feels like the married result of a gel and lotion. It’s easy to spread and glides on like a dream.

Every review that I came across described this cream’s scent differently, one even stating it was unscented. Well I guess I’ll throw a new one out there: permanent markers. I’m not a fan of it but it only bothers me a short bit before entirely disappearing. Keep in mind there’s no fragrance in the formula so whatever we smell comes from the ingredients this is formulated with. I imagine it’ll only bother those with sensitivities to peculiar scents, the rest should be alright as it lingers but for a short moment.

I was just a slight bit apprehensive that this would cause some sort of irritation the first time I used it on my skin but to my surprise, I didn’t feel a single tingle. There was actually no sensation aside from this being moisturizing. I woke up the next morning without noticing or feeling anything different so I proceeded to use this for every day and it’s been perhaps well over a month since I’ve had this. And until this day, I still don’t feel any stinging or tingling of the product when it’s applied. I’ve used the cream a couple of mornings but prefer using it at night. I find that I’m less excited to reach for products with exfoliating properties in the morning not to mention there’s that risk of making my skin more sensitive to the sun.

order of application:

morning: cleanser -> toner -> serum -> Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream -> sunscreen

night: cleansing oil -> cleanser -> toner -> serum -> Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream

I apply a generous amount of this to both my face and neck. The texture is easy to spread, the level of tackiness is actually very tolerable. It takes a moment to fully absorb and does moisturize skin to some extent. However I will say I don’t find this cream remarkably moisturizing. Those with dry skin might feel the need to reach for an additional moisturizer to layer on top of this. For me it’s adequate but with the weather getting colder and a lot drier, I don’t know if this alone will suffice soon.

I do not use this on nights that I use the Mandelic 5% Acid Skin Prep Water, which by the way is close to being emptied. It is recommended that you apply the cream 10 minutes after either the Mandelic 5% Acid Skin Prep Water or Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum (both By Wishtrend products) but I’m not that ballsy. I’m not subjecting my skin to any potential over exfoliation, thank you very much. I however do pair this up with a very mild exfoliating toner at night and so far, the duo has given me lovely results.

If you’re comfortable with strong acids, this might end up disappointing. I still consider myself a beginner level user of chemical exfoliants and I prefer gentler acids like LHA and PHA. I experienced zero tingling with this but I read there were some who felt a bit of stinging so I would caution those with sensitive skin to slowly increase their frequency. Your skin will definitely tell you so look out for signs of irritation and then just take it from there.

So in short, this has helped me maintain a rather healthy skin texture, my skin is brighter, clearer and I’m overall quite satisfied with the results I’ve gotten from this. I don’t produce nearly as much sebum but the weather could have some influence over that so I can’t, with confidence credit this cream for that.

The good:

mild on sensitive skin

contains gentler acids

skin appears brighter, feels soft and looks healthy overall

The bad:

scent

slightly tacky

might not be adequately moisturizing for some

expensive

By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream Review

As someone with sensitive skin and a history of a damaged moisture barrier, chemical exfoliation is a tricky subject. Learning my skin’s tolerance levels, being painstakingly patient and knowing the right product and how many applications is not easy. I’ve found success with alternative ingredients like niacinamide and arbutin, but I’ve also been curious to discover a chemical exfoliant that might, indeed, suit my sensitive skin, and I think I have!

So today I want to introduce a new product, By Wishtrend Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream, and talk about two lesser-known acids that could be just the ticket for sensitive skin.

My skin type: Combo/dry, dehydrated and sensitive

Heads up: This product was provided to me by Wishtrend as a press sample

Acid-Duo Hibiscus 63 Cream

Wishtrend describes this product as an exfoliating light cream moisturizer that’s gentle enough to be used daily. It uses sensitive-skin friendly LHA and PHA, plus utilizes 63% hibiscus flower extract to help support the effectiveness of the acids and provide antioxidant protection.

This is meant to be used as a moisturizer and can be used day or night. The texture is a very humectant, thin and lightweight gel. This absorbs pretty quickly in a very light layer, but I personally didn’t feel like this was enough for my skin and always used another moisturizer on top.

The cream has a light pink tinge to it, which naturally comes from the hibiscus extract and there are no colorants in the formula. The cream has no detectable scent.

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS : Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Butylene Glycol, Water, Glycerin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetyl Alcohol, Gluconolactone, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Hydroxyacetophenone, Carbomer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Potassium Hydroxide, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Dimethicone, Cyanocobalamin

Highlights: Essential oil, fragrance, alcohol free.

Hibiscus Extract: The cream contains 63% of this flower and gives the product its pink hue. Hibiscus is rich in antioxidants which can help protect the skin from environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution. Hibiscus is a great natural source of AHA, BHA and AKA (alpha keto acid). This means that hibiscus can help skin shed dead skin cells, but it also means that hibiscus can help support the effectiveness of other acids like PHA.

Gluconolactone (PHA): Also known as a polyhydroxy acid (PHA), it has similar benefits to its more famous acid sister AHA, with less potential irritation. PHAs have larger molecules than AHA, which is potentially why it has proven itself to be less irritating.

PHA can help exfoliate dead skin cells, help improve skin texture and clarity, increase skin thickness and help decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (LHA): Also known as a lipo hydroxylic acid (LHA), it has similar benefits to BHA. LHA has the ability to help loosen the “glue” that holds dead skin cells in place, making it especially effective for those who suffer from acne and clogged pores. LHA is soluble in oil, meaning it can dive in deep into your pores to help clear up any pore-based problems (acne, clogged pores, blackheads, etc.). LHA is generally regarded as being more well tolerated and gentle on the skin.

NOTE: As with all chemical exfoliants, PHA and LHA can greatly increase your sun sensitivity, so please make sure you have a consistent sunscreen routine in place when using.

My Experience:

I was particularly attracted to this product’s claim of being super gentle on the skin. As someone who deals with sensitivity, I’ve shied away from chemical exfoliants and haven’t used any kind of exfoliator in about 4 months for fear of irritating my skin.

My skin was feeling healthy and balanced, yet I was noticing a little dullness and some texture showing up. I knew could benefit from some exfoliation, so I accepted the press sample from Wishtrend for this new gentle exfoliating cream.

As stated at the beginning of this review, I always pair this with an additional moisturizer as it’s not protective enough for my combo/dry and often dehydrated skin. As an exfoliating cream layered under a moisturizer, I found this worked really well and didn’t feel too heavy or oppressive on my skin. I also only used this about 1-2x a week, as I felt it was not necessary to use daily.

I mostly wanted to improve the little bit of texture and clogged pores I was seeing, some blackheads on my nose and hopefully perk my skin up from looking dull. And I wasn’t disappointed.

The first time I used this cream I noticed my skin immediately brightened up overnight and was super soft! I was very impressed. I was surprised to feel no irritation on application or in the days to come. I think sometimes we get stuck in the trap of thinking that irritation can only occur within about 24 hours of application. But this isn’t always the case, as irritation can occur days after application, so it’s important to pay attention to your skin in the four days after your first application of an active or acid.

So my first application was a success, but I was still cautious because sometimes the issue comes after multiple applications; I wasn’t out of the woods yet.

I stuck to using this 1x a week and occasionally 2x a week over about a month and I noticed that my skin was brighter and smoother. My texture issues seem to be mostly solved and slowly but surely, I’m seeing improvements in my blackheads.

Now, this review might be a little unconventional as I haven’t used this quite as directed. However, I appreciate how easy it is to use this cream according to your unique needs. This will work for any skin type (moisturizer for more oily types and layered with other moisturizers for dry types). This also can be used as many times a week as you like. I do think this could easily be used more than 2x a week as it’s very gentle, but my skin needs just don’t call for it. (never feel like you need to do more if you’re seeing results with less!)

Final Word

I really like this. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin but still effective enough to show results. I also appreciate that I was able to make this work even though it wasn’t an effective moisturizer for my skin. Don’t let the daily moisturizer label hold you back if you only want to use an exfoliator 1-2x a week.

I must admit that this is probably not going to be an impressive product for those with more aggressive and consistent exfoliating routines, but for sensitive skin and those looking to start with chemical exfoliation, this could be just the ticket!

What I love:

Light texture can function for all skin types

Gentle and non-drying

Acids with AHA-like benefits (skin smoothing and brightening)

Acids with BHA-like benefits (clearing clogged pores)

Effective without irritation
