A MyCOPDTeam Member said: I have had that problem at times expecially in the shower. I think the humidity of the bathroom causes the coughing. Maybe you could take your shower before meds or in the evening. I found that spacing out my meds was better for me. Some are taken with food some are empty stomach I even have one that I set my alarm at 3:00am and take. That one has so many things that don’t jive with other meds, caffien, and vitamins. Be sure to read the info sheet you get with your perscriptions and ask your pharmisist if your not sure. Sorry my spelling is horrible and I can’t find spell check on this laptop!😊 posted about 5 years ago
A MyCOPDTeam Member said: These posts have been very helpful. I take showers ’cause they help clean my sinuses. Nice to know how copd also affects others. I knew I had to keep door open just by trial and error. This is going to be so useful ’cause I’m new at all this. posted about 5 years ago
A MyCOPDTeam Member said: I was told to not take too warm of a shower because it can make you cough harder and make it causes shortness of breath. I was told to keep the bathroom door slightly open to allow some of the steam to escape. After I was told this I got to thinking back and realized that was what my problem was. I used to love a nice hot shower, but now they are another thing COPD has taken away from me posted about 5 years ago
Asthma and Hot Showers – The Danger
I never really considered that my love for hot showers to soothe my fibromyalgia aches could turn into a problem for my asthma. But the tables ended up turning on me; I learned that a hot shower in a closed bathroom was not good for those of us who do not have good lungs. Unfortunately, it took a bad health situation for my husband and I to learn the risk that the hot showers presented to my health, specifically my lungs ability to get enough oxygen.
Experiencing asthma complications
At the beginning, it was not an issue for me because my lungs were not as bad as they ended up getting in 2016. Unfortunately, I ended up getting an extremely bad case of pneumonia, which we were unaware of until it took over my lungs. I was intubated for 15 days and stayed another two weeks in the hospital after the intubation.
Why Do I Cough or Sneeze When I am in my Hot Tub? Why Do My Eyes Burn So Much!?
Here’s the deal: The chemicals we use in our hot tubs and spas are all harsh and very toxic. It’s in the water we soak in and the air we breath while in the tub. So when you’re sitting in your hot tub without a care in the world and all of a sudden you start coughing and sneezing or eyes burn or get asthma attacks or itchy skin or or rashes or faded suites or any number of unpleasant side effects.
Unfortunately, this happens more than you think and the cause is typically from the same culprit. A gas called Chloramine.
The reality though is that there’s a better option now. By harvesting the free copper ion and suspending it through our patented process, we can eliminate the need for the toxic levels of Chloramine and enjoy a natural, rejuvenating soak in water we can be comfortable in and WITHOUT the chemicals or smells.
What is Chloramine?
Chloramine is released from your tub when chlorine is combined with nitrogen and ammonia, all elements that are present in your hot tub. When this happens, it releases the strong chlorine odor you typically smell from a hot tub or swimming pool. This gets in your eyes, down your throat, and into your lungs.
Why is it in my Hot Tub?
There are a variety of factors that cause Chloramine to gas off and “hover” over the waterline. Chloramine gases can form when there are contaminants added to the water, this happens when people get in the hot tub and any skin and hair products, lotion, sunscreen, sweat, etc get released into the water.
Chloramine gases can also form because of interaction with other compounds found in traditional sanitation methods, such as using chlorine, bromine, and chlorine-free shock tablets. High concentrations of traditional chlorine-based sanitation methods along with higher water temperatures and “jetted” water movement/bubbles also cause the emission of Chloramine gases.
The Dangers of Chloramine
Not only does Chloramine smell bad, it also can cause harmful repertory side effects. I can make your eyes burn, make your skin itch, give you rashes, make you cough and sneeze and feel otherwise terrible. Some people, including my daughter, actually have allergies to these chemicals. That’s why we created iONRx®.
Here’s the deal, as the gas hovers above the water line, anyone in the hot tub will be exposed to the gas and will breathe it in. The Chloramine gas contains evaporated chemicals that can be inhaled and cause irritation to the respiratory tract, which causes throat irritation, coughing, and sneezing. Other side effects may include watery eyes and skin irritation.
There you have it, the next time you start feeling a throat irritation, coughing, and sneezing, it’s because Chloramine gas has been released from any of the above factors.
How Do You Remove Chloramine and Stop All the Coughing, Itching and Lung Problems?
There’s only one all-natural hot tub treatment solution that requires little maintenance and helps reduce up to 90% of the use of harmful chemicals. iONRx® is a revolutionary hot tub cleaner that requires only the lowest amount of chlorine (the same amount found in drinking water) to help oxidize the water and does NOT emit any harmful gases when combined with other compounds.
When you typically use chlorine and other sanitizers to treat your hot tub water, it’s more prone to release the harmful Chloramine gas because it encounters other contaminants and the ammonia and nitrogen. iONRx® is eco-friendly, non-toxic and will help reduce the chances of you breathing in Chloramine. If you want to safely treat your hot tub water, order iONRx® today!
