Why are my dashed lines not showing in AutoCAD layout?
In most cases, your issue will be related to linetype scale (LTSCALE) as it relates to Paper Space linetype scale (PSLTSCALE). However, you may have your measurement units mistakenly set to Metric when your drawing is meant to be in Imperial units (or vice versa), which can also affect the appearance of dashed lines.
How do I show a dashed line in a viewport?
Double-click inside it and zoom in to your example. Then double-click outside the viewport to return to paperspace. Click on the viewport to highlight it, and change its scale to 1/4″ = 1′-0″. You should see the dashed line in the sample, similar to how it shows in modelspace.
How do I fix dashed lines in AutoCAD?
To adjust the scale, open the Linetype manager through Format > Linetype. Change the Global scale factor. Changing it from 1 to 0.5 will make your dashed line twice as dense. You can also change it using the command LTSCALE.
Why some lines are not visible in AutoCAD?
Check the Shade Plot setting in the plot options and change it from As Displayed to Wireframe. Check for layer states that could be overriding or misapplying layer settings. On the command line in AutoCAD, enter the LAYERSTATE command. Select a different layer state and click Restore.
How do you show linetype in model space?
This question gets asked very frequently and I decided to address it here. Linetypes are controlled by four variables: LTSCALE, CELTSCALE, PSLTSCALE and MSLTSCALE. To put simply set the value of the above four variables to 1 and your linetypes will show appropriately in both paper space and model space.
How do I make a dotted line in AutoCAD?
To make AutoCAD actually draw the lines with a dashed symbol, first zoom in closely to a line feature, then enter “Linetype” at the command prompt to open the Linetype Manager. Click the Load button, and select the specific Linetype to apply to the features.
Why is my Linetype not changing in AutoCAD?
If you change the linetype of a layer or an object but the object remains a continuous line, check the Ltscale system variable. It should be set to your drawing scale factor. If this doesn’t work, set the Viewres system variable to a higher value.
Why are my lines dashed in AutoCAD?
Causes: The linetype scale is too large or too small for the size of the affected object. There is a problem with the display driver on the system. The linetype property of the line itself is Continuous, while its layer is assigned the desired linetype.
How do you refresh a linetype in AutoCAD?
The Classic Way – Through the Layer Properties Palette
In the Layer Properties palette, click any entry in the Linetype column. The Select Linetype dialog box will open. Select any linetype, then click Load. The Load or Reload Linetypes dialog box will open.
What is Psltscale in Autocad?
Controls the scale of linetypes in layout viewports. When off (set to 0), linetypes in layout viewports are scaled using the LTSCALE system variable, which applies to model space and paper space.
How do I set linetype scale in Autocad?
To change the linetype scale, click the Linetype drop-down list in the Properties panel of the Home tab and choose Other to open the Linetype Manager. Click Show Details if the lower portion of the dialog box isn’t displayed. In the Global Scale Factor text box, type the scale factor that you want. Click OK.

They always show up in my layout just like they do in model space and print just as i see them. Over the past two days something happened and now dashed lines in model space show up as solid lines in paper space. It doesnt do it when I open old drawings, just the ones I have created the past couple of days. I must have accidentally done something, does anybody have an idea as to what? Please help!
You need to work with both LTSCALE and PSLTSCALE. I use LTS at the scale
of the dwg (48, 96, etc.) and PSLTSCALE OF 0. Most here, I think, will
use LTS of 1 and PSLTSCALE of 1 when in PS and switch to LTSCALE of the
drawing when in MS. Also, PSLTSCALE must be set for each layout.
Dashed Lines Appearing as Solid Lines
Issue
Your drawing has several lines that are supposed to be dashed. While you may be able to see them as dashed in Paper Space, the lines are appearing as solid in Model Space.
Here’s an example of a drawing with several dashed lines that are appearing erroneously as solid lines in Model Space:
Cause
In most cases, your issue will be related to linetype scale (LTSCALE) as it relates to Paper Space linetype scale (PSLTSCALE).
However, you may have your measurement units mistakenly set to Metric when your drawing is meant to be in Imperial units (or vice versa), which can also affect the appearance of dashed lines. If this is the case, you’ll need to reload your linetypes as described below.
Solution
Step 1: Check Your PSLTSCALE and LTSCALE
Your first step should be to troubleshoot your drawing for issues with LTSCALE and PSLTSCALE. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with these important settings on a general level. For more information, including the solution to most cases of dashed lines appearing as solid, see our Linetype Scale (LTSCALE) page.
If the steps linked above fix your issue, you can continue designing. If not, please move on to Step 2.
Step 2: Set Your Measurement Units Correctly and Reload Your Linetypes
If fixing your LTSCALE and PSLTSCALE (as described on the linked article above) does not correct your issue, your next step is to set your measurement units correctly and then load your linetypes to configure them correctly.
Check your measurement units by typing Measurement in the Command line and pressing Enter. Check the value that is currently set in the Command line. The values are as follows:
0 = Imperial
1 = Metric
Enter a value that matches the measurement units you have set for your Land F/X project and your drawing. For example, if you have your measurement units set to Imperial, type 0 and press Enter.
Now that you have your measurement units set correctly, you’ll need to reload your linetypes so they appear correctly.
Follow our steps to reload all linetypes in your drawing.
Step 3: Purge Unused Linetypes
The final step is to purge all the now-unused linetypes from your drawing. Type Purge in the Command line and press Enter.
In the Purge dialog box, expand the Linetypes entry and select all listed linetypes. (You can select multiple items by clicking while holding down the Shift key.)
Line type not showing up properly in paper space
1. Set LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, MSLTSCALE & CELTSCALE all to 1
2. In paperspace, draw examples of the standard linetypes that came with AutoCAD (for example, hidden, hidden2 and hiddenX2)
3. Test-print the linetypes at 1:1 scale in paperspace, compare them, and select the ones that you wish to use.
4. In modelspace, set CANNOSCALE to 1/4″ = 1′-0″. It is found on a list on the taskbar, next to an icon of the end of a drafting scale. The default scale is usually 1:1. Pick 1/4″ = 1′-0″ from the list.
5. Now select your hidden linetype and start drawing a sample.
6. Switch back to the paperspace tab and create a viewport. Double-click inside it and zoom in to your example. Then double-click outside the viewport to return to paperspace. Click on the viewport to highlight it, and change its scale to 1/4″ = 1′-0″. You should see the dashed line in the sample, similar to how it shows in modelspace.
Others have different set up, but I typically set the following to 1
ltscale=1
msltscale=1
psltscale=1
You can also look at your annotation visibility icons at the bottom of your screen
I changed them back to 1 and it showed up in p.s. good on the longer lines, but the short ones were still solid, so I changed it to .5 and it worked great.
