So lately i have been thinking how can Itachi’s susanoo weild Totsuka blade and Yata mirror. More importantly how did they come in Itachi’s possesion.
First lets see what this weapons are and how Itachi wields them.
Leta start with;
Yata Mirror:
The Yata mirror is an ethereal shield. It is said to be endowed with all the nature transformations and able to change its characteristics to any nature transformation to completely negate any attack, whether it be spiritual, or physical.
The sword of Totsuka:
The sword of totsuka (also known as Sakegari Longsword) is a variant of kusunagi blade(sword that orochimaru keeps in his mouth). It is sheathed in a sake jar; the blade is unlike any other. It is a eternal weapon with an enchanted blade capable of sealing the target it pierces into the jar and trapping them in a genjutsu like world of drunken dreams for all eternity. It can also cut through objects like a normal blade.
So lets start from beginning.
During the battle of two brothers when Sasuke tried to squeeze out more power despite having no chakra left; orochimaru’s chakra within him forced its way out. As a result orochimaru’s eight headed serpent jutsu came forth.
But no worries, just with one blow of totsuka blade orochimaru gets sealed away. Thats how OP this blade is. So now devoid of all chakra Sasuke makes last attempt by throwing all his remaining kunai and paperbombs at Itachi. But again Bamm its Yata mirror; Itachi easily deflects all the attacks.
Black zetsu claims that Yata mirror, combined with the sword of Totsuka, potentially made Itachi’s susanoo invincible.
Now, questions that arrise are:
How did this weapons come in his possesion?
How did he give them and hide it in an ethereal being?
Where did they go after his death?
I have two theories for this: (this are just what i guess)
Lets start with the unlikely one.
First:
“Itachi got them when he activated susanoo.”
Okay I know this sounds a bit upsurd since sasuke and Madara didnt get it, but hear me out.
So it is said that sharingan reflects innermorst emotions of a person. Susanoo is a spirit God or a protector of the user who wield mangekyou sharingan in both of their eyes.
If the user wishes to ‘protect’ the world and ‘deflect’ its evil and hatred; He develops the Yata mirror and Sword of sealing (block all hatred and seal all evil) making the user ultimate protector.
If the user uses different path; susanoo with defense to all who oppose and black flame arrows to burn all those who created this hatred and evil making the user ultimate monster.
This theory can also support the fact that edo tensei Itachi was also able to use this weapons.
Since edo tensei brings back the user as he or she was during their death(Nagato came back with rennegan even when it was taken from him after his death).
One can ask how did orochimaru know about this sword if it was an uchiha power. He searched for it his entire life.
This is were i think this theory of mine produces a plothole. It is possible that this sword may be present in more then one forms in world, like kyubi was split in two and both were present during the war.
Anyway lets go to my second theory.
Second:
“Itachi found them and sealed them away in his mangekyou sharingan. Since susanoo is also an ethereal being it was able to wield them.”
Okay, so we all know that Itachi was a child prodigy. Every one including orochimaru, Lord third, kakashi said that he was a true heir of Uchiha. It is mentioned in manga that since very young age Itachi payed attention to history and learnings of his predicessors.
I believe after leaving village Itachi found both of this weapons and sealed them in his mangekyou sharingan (susanoo) to hide them from orochimaru.
I mean Kisame and Itachi did do nothing for two years but just roam around. And Itachi very well knew orochimaru’s intentions of destroying leaf.
The third databook does state that they are spirit weapons and dont posses physical form. I am not entirely sure how that works but i guess that makes them uniquely compatible with susanoo. Now they being spiritual item I figure Itachi sealed them off in his body or eyes as i mentioned earlier.
This theory also supports how edo tensei Itachi was able to wield them, since those were just spirits sealed within his eyes at the moment of his death. (Just like Minato was able to use other half of kyubi’s chakra).
So i think this second theory is more plausible.
