How to Get Paint Out of Clothes
Let’s start with a few basic principles about removing paint from textiles. The first is to treat stains as quickly as possible, and hopefully before they dry in place. Stains that have dried are harder and sometimes impossible to remove.
The second principle is simple but very important: Always choose the least aggressive method of cleaning. If you’re trying to get paint out of your favorite T, it may seem easier to head straight for the caustic cleaning agents to save time. Besides being more expensive and more environmentally unfriendly, the most aggressive approaches could get the paint off, but it could also remove the dye from the fabric or leave a paint spatter-sized hole in the fabric. With that caution in place, let’s move on to some techniques for removing latex paint from fabric. We’re starting with the gentlest options first, so approach the project in stages.
Blot up or scrape off the excess paint.
Rinse the spot in running water to flush out as much paint as possible.
Treat the spot with equal parts dishwashing liquid and warm water. Apply the mixture with a cotton cloth or sponge, and blot or scrub the spot away.
Pre-treat the spot with commercial stain remover, and then wash the garment as you would normally.
If the gentle stuff doesn’t work, it may be time to do a little damage control assessment: Is the paint spot so visible that the only option is to get it out or toss the garment? If not, aggressive cleaning may make the paint stain worse than it already is by stripping some of the dye from the fabric or damaging the fabric fibers themselves. If you’re prepared to risk it, the following techniques may work. To hedge your bets, though, treat an inconspicuous area of the garment first. Choose a hem or seam allowance. If the technique works without leaving a mark, it’s probably safe to use:
If the mild dish detergent solution above doesn’t do the trick, apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a damp cloth and try removing the paint residue that way.
If the alcohol works somewhat but still leaves a paint outline or specks behind, substitute a toothbrush for the damp cloth and scrub a little harder. (Note: This can damage or distort delicate fabrics like knits, so be careful.)
If all else fails, heavy duty commercial paint and stain removers like Oops! and Goof Off may remove the stain. When using one of these products, read the manufacturer’s directions carefully and be sure to perform a spot test. Strong solvents may undermine some synthetic fabrics or change the tint or density of brightly colored fabrics.
How to remove your Halloween makeup safely and easily
The spooking season has begun and it’s time to paint our faces and scare the heck out of our friends and family! Special effects makeup or just plain old Halloween makeup can be a little tricky to get off of our faces once applied, so here’s my guide to getting that blood and gore off without damaging your skin. Just remember, be patient and remove your makeup gently so as not to damage your skin or cause irritation.
Liquid Latex and Silicone
Liquid latex and silicone can usually be gently peeled away from the skin without much fuss, however, when layered up it can tend to be a little tougher to remove. To help me remove such materials, I like to use a wondrous little product called Isopropyl Myristate. In short, it’s an emollient that’s used in our cosmetics already and helps the makeup to slide right off. I use a little on a cotton pad to saturate the area, then gently and slowly begin to peel the makeup away. You can always apply a little Isopropyl Myristate to a cotton bud and push it under the liquid latex or silicone to help it slide on off of the skin if it’s still a little tough to remove.
Prosthetic Pieces
Prosthetic pieces like chins or noses can be gently peeled away from the skin. Use Isopropyl Myristate for the tougher to remove pieces followed by an oil based cleanser.
Greasepaints and Cremes
Greasepaints and cremes can be a little more time consuming to remove as they tend to repel water. The best way to get this type of makeup off is to use an oil based cleanser. The DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is brilliant for this, but Coconut Oil from your kitchen cupboard will work great too if you don’t want to splash your cash on a fancy oil cleanser. Simply apply a little oil to your dry face and work it in with your fingertips to massage the makeup away, remove it using a soft, wet muslin cloth and repeat the process until the makeup has disappeared.
Fake blood
Some fake bloods are easy to remove with a little oil cleanser and water, but some are specifically designed for ultra long wear and require a specific remover. Some brands will have their own remover that you can buy along with your fake blood. In the case of stubborn fake blood stains or coagulated blood, I tend to rely on my trusty Isopropyl Myristate to gently cleanse the blood away.
Spirit Gum & Scar Wax
Spirit gum is easily removed with Spirit Gum remover followed by your cleansing routine. I love the Mehron Spirit Gum Remover as it’s really gentle on the skin. As for Scar Wax, I tend to use my metal spatula to scoot the majority off followed by either Isopropyl Myristate or my regular cleanser depending on how much is left on my skin.
After removing your makeup thoroughly, it’s great to follow with a proper skincare routine to replenish the moisture and surface oils that have just been cleansed away. If you have the time, treat your skin to a soothing face mask before following with a nourishing moisturiser to keep your skin happy and healthy. I really rate the Starskin Red Carpet Hydrating Coconut Bio Cellulose sheet mask followed by something like the Decleor Hydra Floral Anti-Pollution Hydrating Gel Cream or the Caudalie Overnight Renewal Cream. Don’t forget to add a slick of your favourite lip balm to rehydrate your lips too!

Can I coat fabrics with Liquid Latex?
Yes, you can paint any type of material with liquid latex but be advised that once you paint it, you won’t be able to remove the liquid latex. Will Liquid Latex stick to body hair?
Yes, Liquid Latex will stick to any hair it is applied to. If applying near your hairline, make sure all hair is tightly secured back to avoid it coming into contact with the latex. We strongly recommend shaving any area before applying latex to make the latex removal more comfortable, You can also apply a thin later of baby powder, corn starch, or Vaseline to any area before applying the latex to minimize discomfort when removing the latex.
Who shouldn’t use Liquid Latex products?
Anyone with allergies to latex, ammonia, or sulfur. If you are unsure how you will react to Liquid Latex, apply a small amount to your skin and let it dry. If no reaction or discomfort occurs, you can proceed with the rest of your application. Stop using if any irritation, sensitivity, or negative reactions occur.
Why does Liquid Latex smell?
All liquid latex products use ammonia as a preservative agent. If you are allergic to ammonia-based products, then you shouldn’t put liquid latex on your skin. The smell starts to go away once you leave the container open.
How is Liquid Latex made?
Our Liquid Latex is made by combining water, natural latex sap, ammonia, and various dyes depending on the desired color. The ammonia helps give the Liquid Latex a long shelf-life and a low viscosity for easy application. Please note that the color of Liquid Latex will be darker when it dries. We try our best to keep the colors as consistent as possible between batches, but color variation is possible
What is Liquid Latex Ultra Shine?
Liquid Latex Ultra Shine is a silicone-based protective coating that you can apply directly on top of your finished latex design. This helps protect the latex against cracking and fading and can help prolong the life of your artwork.
How do I remove Liquid Latex?
Once Liquid Latex has dried completely on your skin, you can gently pull or rub it off. If there is any body hair underneath the latex, this may be uncomfortable. We suggest trying our Liquid Latex Body Wash. Just spray a little bit onto the dried liquid latex and lightly rub into the latex with your finger and let it set for about 1 minute. This will help the latex separate from your skin so you can do a final cleansing with soap and water.
What is Rainbow Metallic Pearl Sparkle?
Rainbow Metallic Pearl Sparkle is made from mica chips designed to produce a metallic sparkle that glitters in light. Since it’s a powder, you should take precaution when applying it by using a paper dust mask to avoid inhaling any small particles. A great tool to help you get started is our Liquid Latex Application Kit which comes with a dust mask.
Apply to dried latex with an applicator brush or with your fingers to take your design to the next level!
What’s the shelf life of Liquid Latex?
If left unopened with the original seal in ambient temperature, the latex will maintain its original characteristics for at least a year. After 1 year, the product does start to thicken up a bit but it doesn’t dry out like it does when the lid is open.
The shelf life of opened product depends on the volume of latex in the container. We recommend using smaller sizes like the 2 oz within one week of opening, but a gallon will probably last a couple months although it may develop a thick film on top that will have to removed.
Can I dilute Liquid Latex if it’s too thick?
Yes, but we advise taking caution to dilute it very slowly. Only dilute latex products with ammonia, do not use water. A little goes a long way, so if you must dilute it, do it slowly.
How much Liquid Latex does it take to cover a whole body?
This will vary depending on how many coats of latex are being applied and how big the model is. For an average sized adult, 1 32-oz container should provide at least 1 coat of latex. If more coats are desired, several containers should be purchased.
Will my latex look exactly the same as the pictures on the website?
The resolution of every screen is different, so latex colors may appear slightly different in person. The color will also get considerably darker after it dries. We try our best to ensure that each batch of Liquid Latex we produce is the same color, but there may be some slight color variation from batch to batch.
