How fast are Harley-Davidson motorcycles? | Two Motion

The average top speed for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is around 115 mph and the average time from 0 to 60 mph is around 4.3 seconds. The fastest model, the FXDR, reaches 160 mph and the time from 0 to 60 mph is around 2.5 seconds.

Overview

In this article, we look at how fast Harley-Davidson motorcycles are and how that compares to other motorcycles.

We will look at the following:

How fast are Harley-Davidsons?

How they compare to other motorcycles

What does all of this really mean?

How fast are Harley-Davidsons?

The average top speed for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is around 115 mph and the average time from 0 to 60 mph is around 4.3 seconds. I was able to calculate this from data I collected from various sources but as you can see in the table below there are still a few I was unable to find.

The collected data are all from the latest models (2019 and 2020).

Model Top Speed 0-60 mph Livewire 110 mph* 3,0 sec* Street Rod 110 mph 4,5 sec Street 750 110 mph 4,6 sec Iron 883 105 mph 5,6 sec Forty Eight 110 mph 4,3 sec Iron 1200 118 mph 4,2 sec Roadster 110 mph 4,2 sec Low Rider S 120 mph 4,0 sec Deluxe NA NA Fat Bob 114 110 mph 3,5 sec Sport Glide 115 mph NA Softail Slim 125 mph 4,2 sec Low Rider 120 mph NA Street Bob 125 mph 4,5 sec Heritage Classic 110 mph 4,4 sec Breakout 114 115 mph 4,6 sec Fat Boy 114 110 mph 5,0 sec FXDR 114 160 mph 2,5 sec Road Glide Limited 105 mph 5,0 sec

*Updated 11 September 2020

How they compare to other motorcycles and vehicles

The fastest Harley-Davidson motorcycle (FXDR) just almost reaches the speed that a decent sportbike is able to do. But if you consider the fact that it’s still a cruiser, those numbers are actually quite impressive, especially the time from 0 to 60 mph.

Model Top Speed 0-60 mph Honda CBR 1000 RR 178 mph 2,9 sec Ducati Panigale V4 191 mph 2,8 sec Porsche 911 183 mph 4,2 sec Average H-D 115 mph 4,3 sec H-D FXDR 114 160 mph 2,5 sec H-D Iron 883 105 mph 5,6 sec

What does all of this really mean?

I would like to ask you a question; why does the top speed matter so much to you? I mean, even the Iron 883 reaches a decent speed above the national speed limit. Are you planning on taking it to the track? If not, why the hell do you care how fast it goes?

Harleys haven’t been in the racing scene since the 60s. Well, that’s not completely true (see the video at the end). They aren’t targeting the guys and gals that have a death wish, instead, they want to attract those that want to live (kinda like a liberation movement).

But we all know freedom isn’t free and the same goes for buying one of Harley-Davidson’s “freedom machines”. They are expensive and that might make you think twice before buying one. But still, they offer a lot more than speed if you have ever heard one start and idle.

Sound of a Harley-Davidson

Video – Racing Harley-Davidson

Final words

Of course, I don’t know why you would like to have this information but I hope it helps. I want to be clear on this. I love my sportbikes and a naked bike is like my spirit animal, but there’s a lot more to riding motorcycles than just going fast.

The Fastest Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson motorcycles aren’t traditionally thought of for their incredible speeds. With their iconic Big Twin designs, Harleys are meant for cruising, and the average rider rarely ever goes out of their way to reach their bike’s top speed. However, this hasn’t stopped Harley-Davidson from producing some staggeringly fast (and even record-breaking) motorcycles in their time. From their traditional gasoline-powered V-twin models that put the company on the map to the more experimental custom jobs that have utilized Harley parts, Harley-Davidson isn’t a name that you should overlook when it comes to speed. This article will discuss which bikes are the fastest Harley-Davidson motorcycles, both currently available and previously made.

What is the Fastest Harley-Davidson Production Motorcycle?

In terms of the time it takes to go from 0 to 60, the fastest Harley production motorcycle that’s ever been produced is the current FXDR 114. It can reach 60 mph in only 2.5 seconds, a remarkable feat that is simply par for the course with the improvements Harley-Davidson has made over the past two decades. Although it’s not aesthetically aligned with the designs that Harley enthusiasts might know and love the most, the sleek FXDR 114 has still appealed to many riders, especially given its exceptional acceleration abilities.

Before the FXDR 114,the electric LiveWire held the record for being the fastest Harley motorcycle in production. Debuting not long before the FXDR 114, the LiveWire was the first electric motorcycle from the company and could reach 60mph in 3 seconds, the current record. The LiveWire took the record from the 2001 V-Twin, famously clocked by Cycle World for its ability to hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Despite the increased acceleration times found in these models compared to some of the competition, they don’t necessarily have record-breaking top speeds. In terms of pure horsepower, the most powerful motorcycle that has ever been produced using Harley-Davidson engines wasn’t made to be sold to the public.

How Much Horsepower Does the FXDR 114 Have?

The FXDR 114 has 90 horsepower. While this certainly makes the FXDR 114 a formidable beast out on the road, it still isn’t comparable to the most heavy-duty models on the market, let alone the more powerful and experimental motorcycles Harley-Davidson has seen their name attached to outside of the market. The FXDR 114 can achieve a top speed of around 160 mph. This feat makes it the fastest Harley-Davidson production motorcycle currently being sold new, although it’s not the fastest motorcycle in the company’s entire history. Even though the average biker would rarely find themselves in a situation where they’d wish to exceed 160 mph, that hasn’t stopped Harley-Davidson from always experimenting and trying to push the envelope when it comes to speed.

Which Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Has the Most Horsepower?

The most powerful Harley-Davidson motorcycle ever produced was a custom motorcycle made for specialized purposes. It was called the Easyriders Streamliner and had to be handled by a driver who specialized in drag racing. That driver was Dave Campos. The unique bike was 7 meters long and completely enclosed, looking less like a Harley-Davidson cruiser than an oversized bullet on wheels. Due to its specialized design, as well as its two separate 1500cc engines, the Easyriders Streamliner was able to reach a recording-breaking speed of 322 mph. This was the overall record for a motorcycle for 16 years; however, this speed would be neither desirable nor attainable for the average Harley-Davidson enthusiast!

What is the Most Sought After Harley-Davidson Model?

Although excessive speed and horsepower are often what buyers are looking for when purchasing a vehicle, this isn’t always the case with Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Most of the time, the average buyer is looking for something much closer to the old-fashioned type of Harley-Davidson cruiser that you would see in the movies. While these can certainly be powerful bikes in their own right, their classic design doesn’t always lend itself to the same record-breaking speeds as the more aerodynamic models produced by their competition. Still, it’s what most people think of when they think of Harley-Davidson.

What Harley Holds Its Value the Best?

Rather than the fastest models, the most widely regarded Harley-Davidson motorcycles tend to be the ones that are the most unique and attractive in their designs. This includes the FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide, which was introduced to the market in 1993. This motorcycle was quite the spectacle, being the longest bike that Harley had ever produced at the time, as well as featuring dual exhausts. While it had the classic Harley-Davidson charm, it also introduced a unique edge that many people still crave to this day. The line was discontinued in 2017, with many believing the model to have hit its stride in the mid-2000s, specifically with the model year 2008.

What’s the Most Popular Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Currently in Production?

Those looking for a more traditional Harley than the FXDR 114 may enjoy the touring 2021 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. With its V-twin engine and classic look, this represents one of the most popular twin-cam options currently being manufactured. As far as cruiser varieties go, the 2021 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is a popular choice amongst riders and is still in production. Although these models aren’t quite as fast as others, they are much closer to what the average Harley buyer is looking for.

What Type Of Motorcycle Is A Harley Davidson?

Harleys are typically cruiser motorcycles, which means they’re designed for comfortable long-distance riding, rather than racing or off-road use.

Cruiser motorcycles have a laid-back riding position, with the footpegs positioned behind the rider and the handlebars higher than the seat. This gives the rider a more relaxed posture, which is ideal for long rides.

Harleys also tend to have large engines, often V-twin engines with lots of torque (low-end power). This makes them great for highway riding, where you can open up the throttle and enjoy the rumble of the engine.

However, it also means that Harleys can be heavy and difficult to maneuver at low speeds. If you’re looking for a motorcycle that’s easy to ride around town, a Harley may not be the best choice.

Harleys are also known for their unique styling. Most Harleys have a lot of chrome, and they’re often customized with aftermarket parts and accessories. This makes each Harley unique, and it’s part of the appeal of owning one.

Why Are Harveys Slower Than Motorcycles With Smaller Engines?
