How Fast Does A 110cc Bike Go?
Do you have a case of motocross madness? Motocross is a popular type of off-roading done on specially designed motorcycles on enclosed off-road circuits that first evolved from motorcycle trail competitions in Britain. The sport quickly captured the attention of an international audience, making it a global hit known universally as motocross racing. The sport immediately branched out, with rally raids, enduro, dual-sport, track racing, and time trials becoming a big part of off-road motorcycle racing.
Dirt Bikes The sport of Motocross is centered around a multitude of annual international events, most notably the FIM Motocross World Championship, the AMA Motocross Championship, Motocross de Nations, and the British Motocross Championship. The events are held for bikes of various displacements, ranging from 50cc mini cross events to 500cc based on the rider’s experience. Regardless of whether you plan on entering motocross competitions or just want to invest in a fun vehicle that can perform on all types of terrain, the first step towards making your purchase is research. Dirt Bikes come in all shapes and sizes, with some designed more specifically for competition. However, the most favorable bikes for beginners are in the 110cc category. But how fast does a 110cc dirt bike go?
110cc Bikes: An Overview The 110cc dirt bike segment is recommended for beginners who want to get a feel for off-road riding. This specific power output is ideal as it isn’t as intimidating as some of the larger engines, and the small demeanor of the bikes makes it easier to control and get used to fast. However, that doesn’t mean that they are slow — some of the better ones can be pretty swift and will definitely get your adrenaline going. Some riders even add aftermarket parts to their bikes that increase power and reduce overall weight, making top speed and acceleration even faster. However, for the sake of this article, let us focus on bikes with factory-performance figures.
How To Get A 110cc Dirt Bike To Maximum Speed In short, a 110cc dirt bike should reach a top speed anywhere between 35 mph and 45 mph, although some new and more expensive models claim to be able to get close to the 60 mph mark. However, keep in mind that reaching this number will need a certain amount of variables to fall into place. For example, is your bike equipped with a proper air filter and radiator? Are the tires appropriate for the specific terrain you are looking to ride in? Are the track conditions ideal? If yes, then you should be able to reach maximum performance. If you wish to get the best performance out of your bike, you will have to tweak it multiple times until you figure out the right setting for you and the track. Consider the suspension and engine oil in use. They have a significant impact on how much the bike can optimize its performance.
Fastest Dirt Bikes On The Market? There isn’t an official king of the 110cc segment, but it is pretty apparent that Japanese brands take the cake when it comes to dirt bikes. Japanese manufacturers like Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki produce brilliant 110cc dirt bikes that offer a thrilling riding experience. However, other brands like the Austrian KTM and Demak from Malaysia have been improving their performance lately.
Which Dirt Bike Should You Choose? As mentioned earlier, each bike brand offers a unique riding experience. How it’s manufactured, the materials used, and the overall craftsmanship all impact how the bike rides and performs. Also, keep in mind that bikes from the same manufacturer may also produce slightly different top speeds compared to one another, as even the tiniest detail can change that number. So, to answer the question, there is a reason why Japanese bikes are the most preferred; they are fast, reliable, generally easy to maintain, and source parts. And remember, if you feel the need for more speed, there are countless aftermarket performance parts and tuning centers that specialize in dirt bikes, as well. In addition, it will undoubtedly increase the factory claimed top speed.
2022 Honda Navi Review [10 Fast Facts For Urban Motorcycle Riders]
Hello everyone and welcome to Motos and Friends, a Podcast brought to you by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling. My name is Arthur Coldwells.
Motos and Friends is brought to you by the Yamaha YZF-R7—the comfortable supersport machine. Check it out at at your local Yamaha dealer, or of course at YamahaMotorsports.com.
In this week’s first segment, Editor in Chief Don Williams gives us his impressions of the new Honda CB500F. This middleweight motorcycle with a parallel twin motor, is easy to ride, and all around super user-friendly. Is it too much for a beginner, and equally, the question is, does it have enough to satisfy the more experienced rider? Don gives us his thoughts on whether there’s really a place in Honda’s line-up for the CB500F.
In the second segment, I chat with one of my good buddies and riding friends—Alonzo Bodden. You may have seen one of Alonzo’s shows as a stand-up comedian; actually he won the final of the competition show, Last Comic Standing.
We watched one of his shows a few weeks ago at the Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank CA, and let me tell you—he was brilliant; side-splitting, laugh out loud funny. His commentary on people and the human condition is absolutely hilarious; I’d recommend everyone to go see him especially if you’re in need of a laugh.
Alonzo is a long-time motorcycle rider, and has owned a large variety of machines. He’s got some real opinions on the various bikes he’s ridden, so I hope you find this section of the podcast as interesting as much as it is funny.
If you fancy going to see Alonzo’s live show, you can check out his schedule at alonzobodden.com. That’s Alonzo with a Zee, and Bodden spelt with two Ds. You can tell him that Ultimate Motorcycling sent you.
So, from all of us here at the magazine, we hope you enjoy this episode!
How Fast Does a 125cc Go? (Top Speed) Begin Motorcycling
Most of us have been there early in our riding days. We are getting ready for our first 125cc motorcycle or scooter, and that ever so elusive question floats into our heads, just how fast can this two-wheeled beast go?
The short answer is that the top speed of a 125cc, on average, is somewhere between 65mph and 80mph.
However, to answer the question properly, we need to look at the factors that affect how fast a motorcycle can go and then we will give a short round-up of some of the fastest 125s on the market.
Let’s start by looking at the legal restrictions that 125cc motorcycles and scooters have to adhere to.
Legal restrictions
In the UK, there are power output restrictions for those riding on an A1 licence or those who are riding having gained a CBT certificate.
If you have an A2 or A licence, there are no restrictions on the power output for the 125cc of your choice.
So for those with a CBT or A1 licence, this is what you need to know:
You can ride a bike up to 125cc with engine power that does not exceed 11kw (15 horsepower) and the maximum power to weight ratio of 0.1kw per kg.
As a result of these restrictions, most new 125’s meet this power output or come in below it.
Two-strokes
At one time, mainly throughout the 1980s, two-stroke small capacity bikes were all the rage, and they were fast!
The Aprilia RS125, for example, was the king of the race track and could quite easily see speeds of over 100mph.
However, today’s RS125 is a shadow of its former self, opting for a four-stroke Euro 5 engine and complying with the legal power output of a 125cc. It still looks pretty special, though.
It is essential to understand that just because a bike is advertised as a 125cc doesn’t mean it meets the legal requirements of a 125cc for learners or A1 licence holders.
This is mainly applicable to older two-strokes, so that will give you a good idea as to whether the bike is legal to ride or not.
For example, the Gilera Crono in the 90s had a max power output of over 29 horsepower and a top speed of 105mph.
Many offerings from Yamaha, Suzuki etc., could also be de-restricted to unleash more power from the two-stroke motors.
Therefore when looking for a 125cc, make sure that it has a maximum power output of 11kw/15hp.
Anything bigger, and you will need to do your A2/A licence to ride the motorcycle legally.
What factors affect the speed of a 125cc?
Two key factors affect the speed of a 125cc:
Aerodynamics
Weight
Aerodynamics and Weight
If a bike can cut through the air and experience little wind resistance, it will move faster; ironically, with a 125cc, that doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to have the best cutting edge fairing.
In the case of the MT-125 and R125, the former being a naked motorcycle and the latter fully-faired, it is the MT-125 that actually has a higher top speed of 80mph.
A significant factor in this is that the MT is 2kg lighter than the R125.
When it comes to a 125cc, any weight reduction is positive and can make all the difference in speed.
However, this can be problematic if the bike is too lightweight and not aerodynamic enough. Facing a headwind on a 125cc can be a pretty terrible experience slowing you right down and blowing you all over the road.
Therefore manufacturers have to walk the delicate balance of enough bodywork to do its job against the wind but not too much that the bike becomes too heavy for the engine’s power to cope with.
125cc scooters are pretty good at hitting higher top speeds. This may be down to how the bikes are designed to cut through the air and be aerodynamic.
The top two fastest scooters are actually both significantly heavier than the MT-125 but have the same top speed.

Final Thoughts
Great things come in small packages, and 125cc bikes epitomise that idea.
They are a blast to ride, and some of them are pretty fast; be sure if you are restricted licence wise, to check the power output of your chosen 125cc to make sure it complies with the legal restrictions.
