Is it normal for the wheels to be over 100C hot after a few kilometers of driving?

Let’s see. 80 km/h is 22.22 m/s, and the kinetic energy is 0.5*1200 kg*(22.22 m/s)^2 = about 300 kJ.

Brake rotor is initially at 20 degrees Celsius and now rose to 100 degrees Celsius. That’s a 80 degree rise. Brake rotor weighs about 10 kg (source). There are 4 rotors, or 40 kg total in the car. Grey cast iron has 490 J/(kg*K) heat capacity. This means 40 kg and 80 degree rise is 1568 kJ.

Based on this, it can’t be the brake rotors unless you repeatedly braked from 80 km/h to 0 km/h and not just once. It could be the brake pads, as I assume about half of the heat goes to pads and about half of the heat goes to rotors.

Set of 4 pads to front is 0.83 kg (source) so total is about 1.6 kg. If pads are made of the same material as rotors, 490 J/(kg*K) * 1.6 kg * 80 K = 63 kJ.

Of the 300 kJ kinetic energy, if half goes to pads and half to rotors the pads could take about 150 kJ of this. Even 63 kJ is enough to heat them to a temperature that boils water.

Edit: as Zaid correctly pointed out, most vehicles have about 65/35 front/rear brake force distribution. So, the front rotors (20 kg) could get 195 kJ. 80 degree rise for them is half of 1568 kJ, or 784 kJ. Remove the wheel and ask someone to push the brake pedal. In this case the rotor should not move. Now release the brake pedal. The discs should now move. Check the wheel bearings by Put your car on a Jack and then on stands and shake the wheel. Check for any kind of movement, horizontal or vertical.

If the heating was related to the brakes pads or bearings, one would positively hear some noise. Since you are hearing it it must be pad/rotor related.

I remember when I was driving on the Highway wondering why there seemed to be very poor pickup, it turned out to be a jammed piston on the brakes and my disc was red hot. This can be dangerous as it can lead to a tyre blowout with disastrous results.
