How Much Does Pinhole Gum Surgery Cost in Monmouth County, NJ?
Has your dentist or periodontist recommended you to treat gum recession? If you have receding gums due to gingivitis or gum disease there are surgical procedures to replace the missing gum tissue. There are various techniques to address this issue. One of the treatments that is recommended when a significant number of teeth have recession is the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Procedure.
Pinhole gum surgery is a technique that was developed as an alternative to gum grafting. A small opening is made in the gums to allow a device to be inserted that stretches and pulls the gums into place over the teeth. Collagen is inserted under the gums to help them expand and stay in place.

Pinhole Gum Surgery
Advanced Care For Gum Disease
Pinhole Gum Surgery in Denver
If you are suffering from gum recession due to gum disease, Poulos & Somers can restore your smile without gum grafting. We use advanced techniques like pinhole gum surgery to provide you with excellent results, faster treatments, and a shorter recovery process. Learn more below, or contact us now to get started at our Denver practice.
What Is
Pinhole Gum Surgery?
Pinhole gum recession is a treatment used to treat gum recession, which is often caused by gum disease. When you are affected by a serious case of gum disease, your gums will pull away from your teeth, exposing the roots of your teeth.
This can cause sensitivity, negative effects on the appearance of your smile, and a higher risk of tooth decay and other oral health issues. Pinhole gum surgery is used to restore your gums without invasive gum grafting.
The procedure takes only about an hour and is done under local numbing, though dental sedation is available at our office. Your Denver dentist at Poulos & Somers will clean and numb your mouth. Then, small “pinholes” are made in the gum tissue.
Through these holes, your gums will be lifted, and then strips of collagen will be placed beneath them. These strips help stabilize your teeth and gums, and allow your gum tissue to regrow and support your teeth. Eventually, this restores your oral health and the natural appearance of your smile.
How Long
Does Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Last?
Pinhole gum rejuvenation can last for years and decades with proper oral care. As long as you manage your gum disease properly, do not overbrush your teeth with stiff-bristled brushes, and avoid other such risk factors for gum recession, your results will continue to look great.
Your smile may still be affected by the natural aging process, of course, which could result in some changes to your gums. But as long as your gums remain healthy, your pinhole gum rejuvenation procedure will continue to last for the years and decades to come.
Is
Pinhole Gum Surgery Permanent?
Yes. Pinhole gum surgery is considered to be just as permanent as any other type of treatment for gum recession, such as gum grafting. It will never “wear off.” The new gum tissue in your mouth will continue to support your teeth and keep your smile healthy for years to come, as long as you take proper care of your mouth and see the Denver team at Poulos & Somers for regular teeth cleanings and oral exams.
Is
Pinhole Gum Surgery Effective?
Yes. Pinhole gum surgery is just as effective as other methods of gum restoration like gum grafting. And since it’s minimally-invasive and does not have a lengthy recovery period, it’s sometimes considered to be a more effective solution than gum grafting for some patients.
However, pinhole gum surgery may not be appropriate for all patients and all cases. To see if you’re a good candidate for treatment, contact Poulos & Somers in Denver today.
Am I A Good Candidate
For Pinhole Gum Surgery?
A good candidate for pinhole gum surgery would be someone who is in overall good health but is suffering from gum recession. You should not have any other present oral health problems such as an active gum infection or tooth decay.
These issues will need to be addressed first. If you have active gum disease and severely receding gums, you may be a better candidate for gum grafts. This is because pinhole gum surgery requires a certain amount of gum tissue to work.
Smokers are also not good candidates so if you are interested in this procedure, you should stop smoking. Pinhole gum surgery is best suited for patients who would like to correct aesthetic imperfections with their receding gums, not severe dental issues as a result of the gums pulling away from the roots of the teeth.
Aftercare For
Pinhole Gum Surgery: What To Expect
After surgery at our Denver practice, you can expect some mild bleeding, swelling, sensitivity to cold, and discomfort. Pain and bleeding should subside within 24-28 hours. Take any prescribed medication as instructed or take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain medication.
To reduce swelling, apply an ice pack for 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off repeatedly for the first 48 hours. Keep your head elevated and do not apply heat to the face during this time. You will need to keep your mouth clean but cannot brush or floss at the surgery site.
After 24 hours, if the bleeding has stopped you can use a lukewarm salt water rinse or a prescribed mouthwash to rinse your mouth. Do not swish it around, spit, or close your lips together. Put the rinse in your mouth with your lips apart and gently swirl it around, then lean over the sink and let the liquid fall out.
You can gently and carefully brush your tongue and the teeth that did not have any surgery. Make sure to use a toothbrush with very soft bristles for at least 6 weeks. You will stick to a diet of soft foods during your recovery, so do not consume any hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy foods.
You need to be careful not to disturb the surgical site so avoid all forms of suction, do not touch the area, chew on that side of the mouth, sleep on that side of the face, or even look at the gums because this means pulling on your cheek which you cannot do for 6 weeks.
For the first week, you should avoid strenuous physical activity, get plenty of rest, avoid hot liquids and alcohol. No smoking or using tobacco products for at least 3 weeks. You must avoid grinding your teeth so if you suffer from Bruxism, discuss this with the dentist. Avoid touching or massaging your face for at least 3 weeks.

Pinhole Technique
Pinhole Minimally Invasive Gum Grafting
At DT Periodontics in Long Island, NY, Dr.Tsiokos perform the latest treatment for gum recession. This new technique is called the Pinhole Surgical Technique and is the most technically advanced procedure being performed at this time by the most technically skilled, board certified specialists. Unlike the traditional technique for gum surgery, typically gum grafting, an invasive procedure requiring removal of the tissue from the roof of the patient’s mouth and stitches to cover the exposed root resulting in extensive downtime of up to ten days and possibly requiring multiple treatments; the pinhole technique is virtually pain free, minimally invasive and requires far less recovery time with immediate results.

Conventional Gum Grafting vs Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique (Female Voice Over)
Gum recession can be uncomfortable and cause sensitivity as well as an aesthetically unpleasant gum line. When you are uncomfortable and unhappy with your smile, you smile less. When it hurts to eat or drink something, you sacrifice. In addition recessed gums can lead to additional health issues and can affect your overall well-being. The Pinhole Gum Surgery is a pain-free, scalpel free, suture free and graft free procedure to improve gum recession.
What is gum recession?
Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue along the gum line recedes exposing the root of the tooth. This can occur as a result of periodontal disease including gingivitis, periodontitis and advanced periodontitis, the natural aging process, or brushing the teeth abrasively. Unfortunately brushing your teeth harder does not mean you are brushing any better.
Why is it important to treat gum recession?
When the root of the tooth is left exposed due to gum recession, decay and other problems can affect the overall health of the teeth above and below the gum line. Healthy gums are necessary for a healthy mouth and treating gum recession is necessary for lasting dental wellness.
How is the Pinhole Surgical Technique Performed?
Performed with a specially designed pin-like instrument, a small hole the size of a ball point pen tip is made and the gum tissue is carefully loosened allowing the gum to be placed over the exposed or receded area. Collagen is then placed through the pin sized hole to keep the gums in place and most patients are surprised to see an immediate cosmetic improvement. Because there is no cutting or stitches required, there is minimal post operative pain, swelling or bleeding and the pin-sized hole typically heals within 24 hours.
What are the differences between the Pinhole Surgical Technique and Traditional Gum Grafting?
Some differences between gum grafting and the pinhole surgical technique include:
The Surgical procedure
Gum grafting is an incision made on the roof of your mouth to remove gum tissue. In some cases an alternative source or tissue bank is required. Another incision is then made and the tissue is connected to cover the exposed roots using stitches to keep the site closed.
With the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a small, pin-sized hole is made as an entry point in order to loosen the gums and stretch it over the exposed root. Collagen is then placed to keep the gums in place. No cutting or stitches are required with this minimally invasive technique. The Pinhole Surgical Technique gives us a less invasive option to address and treat recession.
Number of teeth treated
With traditional gum grafting only a few teeth can be treated at a time.
With the new Pinhole Surgical Technique we can work on numerous teeth including the full mouth in most cases. Because we are using the existing gum to move into position, we are able to treat a much larger area without the restrictions that are encountered with gum grafting including cutting, removing and grafting existing gum tissue.
Surgery Time
Gum grafting can take 90 minutes or more to complete. The new Pinhole Surgical Technique takes half the amount of time compared to connective tissue grafting.
Recovery Time
Traditional Gum grafting requires cutting and stitches and can take 14 – 21 days to heal with many restrictions, pain and swelling.
The new Pinhole Surgical Technique has virtually no recovery time. No Cutting, No Stitches, No Downtime! You can easily repair your gums and repair your smile during your lunch break and go back to work the same day. The pin-sized hole heals quickly and is almost undetectable in as little as 24 hours.
