How to Reset the Nether in Minecraft Java Edition
How to Reset the Nether in Minecraft Java Edition

Overview
One of the most thrilling aspects of playing Minecraft is discovering the Nether. The nether is completely different from the overworld as it introduces new mobs, blocks, and a totally separate feel to the world. With this seemingly endless world type, exploration is limitless. Although the nether is an infinite world type, many server owners will want to reset it as after players have explored it too much, you will start finding constantly explored fortresses, valuable blocks mined, and many player-built bases.
Once the Nether has been over-explored, players generally will get bored of it. For this reason, server owners may want to reset the Nether to allow the players a refreshed experience.
Another reason that a server owner may want to reset is for nether updates, such as the 1.16 Minecraft update. If you host with Apex, you can easily reset your nether with a single click button on our game panel. We will walk you through exactly how to do that! We will also be walking you through how you can reset the nether manually.
Please note that this only works for Minecraft Java Edition and not Bedrock Edition.
How to Reset the Nether
Panel Reset
Head to the Apex Panel and stop your server. Scroll down until you find the World field. In this field you are going to see two buttons. Change World and Reset Nether . Go ahead and click Reset Nether . Type reset and press Reset Nether . Start your server back up and your nether should now be reset!
Manual Reset (Vanilla)
When running Vanilla Minecraft, the Nether is stored inside the world folder. In order to reset it:
Head to the game panel and stop the server. Scroll to the World field and take note of the world name. To the left of the panel, click on FTP File Access . Once logged in, locate your world folder. The name of the folder should be the same one set in the world field. Open the folder and locate DIM-1 . Right-click this folder and press delete. Wait for it to be fully deleted. Head back to the game panel and start your server.
Manual Reset (Spigot/Paper)
When running Minecraft using plugin-compatible versions such as Spigot or Paper, the Nether may be stored inside the main directory next to your world folder. To reset it:
Head to the game panel and stop the server. Scroll to the World field and take note of the world name. To the left of the panel, click on FTP File Access . Once logged in, locate your world folder. Search for the folder with (yourworldname)_nether that should be nearby. Right-click this folder and press delete. Wait for it to be fully deleted. Head back to the game panel and start your server.
Common Issues
The Nether didn’t reset after deleting the folder
If you have deleted the DIM-1 folder and the nether is the same, it is likely that you removed a nether folder from the wrong world or that you are running Spigot, Bukkit, or Paper. Firstly, check the world name you have set in the world field and make sure that it is the same as the world you were modifying. Also, remember that if you are running Spigot, Bukkit, or Paper you delete the “worldname_nether” folder and not the “DIM-1”.

How To Change Your Minecraft Server Seed
How To Change Your Minecraft Server Seed
Last modified on Feb 25, 2021 in control panel
By ApexHosting
Overview
When a Minecraft world is first created, the world generates biomes, villages, and other structures at random. Having this random generation is one of the exciting parts about creating a new Minecraft save as you never know what interesting structures/biomes you may find. However, not everyone prefers to have this generation to be random. Many times there’s a specific world players would like to load into. This is where the world’s world’s seed comes into play. Every world upon generation is given a seed; this seed is a random string of numbers that will determine how the world generates its biomes, blocks, structures, etc. Seeds apply the same to a world created on a server as it does in singleplayer. If you own a server, it’s likely you may want to generate a world using a custom seed either from an online website or from your single-player world. This can be done very easily and we will be walking you through the steps on how you can find your current seed and how you can set your Minecraft Server’s seed.
Finding the seed
How to find your local world seed
Open Minecraft, then head to the singleplayer tab and join your world. Once you are connected to the world, all you need to do is type “/seed” into chat and press enter. A message will come back with the seed ID. Click on this and it will copy to your clipboard.
How to find the seed of a Minecraft Server
Head to your Apex Panel and click on “Console”. Type “seed” into the console and press enter. The console should output a message with the seed ID.
How to change your server seed
Go to the Apex Control Panel and stop your server. To the left of the panel, click on “Config Files”, then click “Server Settings”. Locate the “Level Seed” and fill in the blank with the seed you would like your world to load. Scroll down and press save. Head back to the main page of your panel and locate the “World” field. You will need to change this to any random name. This will reset your world. Once you do that, go ahead and start the server back up. You can check if the server loaded the correct seed by typing “seed” into the server console.
Common Issues
Builds from my previous world aren’t showing up
Please keep in mind that the seed affects only the world generation/default structures. It does not save any man-made objects or buildings.
The seed didn’t change after I restarted the server
If your seed did not change, it’s likely the world was not reset correctly. Make sure that you stop the server, change the world field, and start it back up. Also, make sure that the seed is set in the server settings. If this file was not saved properly, the seed may revert back to blank.

Is The Nether randomly generated?
The nether is just a special Biome, and is generated the same way as any other Biome (except only in the Nether of course). According to the wiki, occasionally nether biomes will spawn in the overworld!
It was a separate map theme in Indev mode (albeit with dirt/sand instead of netherack/soul sand), and as such had a different algorithm for generating the terrain.
So yes, the Nether is randomly generated, it will be different for different seeds (it uses the same seed to generate terrain as the overworld). And even among worlds with the same seed, the location where a new destination nether portal spawns is randomized separately.
