If you are one of the many people who own a Hyundai, there is no need to worry about How to Change Car Key Battery Hyundai. We have compiled a step-by-step guide that will walk you through How to Change Car Key Battery Hyundai. There is nothing more frustrating than being locked out of your car and not knowing how to Change the Car Key Battery Hyundai because the battery died or it just got old.
You should know that this process will be different depending on your car’s make and model, but not dramatically.
Read below to learn How to Change Car Key Battery Hyundai, depending on the model.
Let’s get started…
01. How to change the battery in the “Egg-Shaped” Hyundai key fob?
Many people have asked me how they can change the battery in their Hyundai car key, so I thought it would be a good idea to write a blog post about this topic. The procedure is really easy and takes less than 15 minutes, but you need to make sure that you have all of the right tools beforehand.
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver.
Now, that you are ready, let’s the key battery change on your Hyundai.
Step-01: The first step is removing this emergency blade. Ensure that the slider has been slid out of place and then take out the bladder- it’s what we use to open your car if you forget to charge up your key battery, or if these buttons stop working. You’ll need a way in.
Step-02: The key is split into two all the way around, and you need to use this insert here that’s not on the blade hole. It’s in a little accommodating slot right next to it. Now if your hands are too shaky, you can do it with just a regular old screwdriver. Just gently place it onto there and give it one twist for an easy unlocking action without any hassle at all.
Step-03: The key cover is open now. A couple of things that are really important is not touching it otherwise you’ll have trouble with your vehicle starting.
Step-04: The key battery was removed from the top side of the lock. It’s not labeled, but when you put it back, you’ll see a label that is CR2032 (3V).
Step-05: When you change your car key’s battery, be sure to install a new one.
Step-06: Your new battery has a “+” sign, and you’ll need to make sure the plus signs on it match with those of your key.
Step-07: In order to change your Hyundai car key battery, you will need to take the old battery out of the slot. Put in a new one and join the two parts of your key together.
After replacing your key fob battery, don’t forget to reprogram it. All you have to do is follow the instructions below and restart.
For changing the different model Hyundai key fob battery, you have to follow the aforesaid steps, which I explain in “The Egg-Shaped Hyundai key fob battery changing” part. You should follow all steps except step-01, step-02, and step-03. Instead of these steps, you have to follow the below step.
02. How to replace the Hyundai Accent “Flip” key fob battery (2018, 2019, 2020)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver. Phillips screwdriver
Follow the below step:
The Hyundai Accent flip key fob battery has two covers: one in the back and another for a coin battery. Remove the flathead screw on the back cover then remove the Phillips screws to gain access to the coin battery cover inside.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
03. How to replace the Hyundai Accent “2-Button” key fob battery (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver.
Follow the below step:
The key fob’s top has a small, recessed groove in it where you can use your flat-head screwdriver to pry the two halves apart. Twist until they come loose and then gently pull them apart with both hands.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
04. How to replace the Hyundai Azera “Trapezoidal” smart key fob (2015, 2016, 2017) battery?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver. Precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller)
Follow the below step:
To open up the key fob, we need to press and hold down on a small metal button located near the bottom of it. Once this is done, take out your flat-head screwdriver from one side in order to pry off a mirrored plate that was previously blocking access. The indentation at the opposite end should be visible now, when you look into where the key came from; insert your tool inside and twist carefully until there’s an audible click which signifies success!
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
05. How to replace the Hyundai Azera “Rectangular” smart key fob (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) battery?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver. Precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller)
Follow the below step:
First, use your thumb to press the button on the front of your key fob. Then push gently until you feel that the internal key is extracted and take it out with caution since its touch may be fragile. Next, position a flat-head screwdriver under the indentation in order to pop open two halves of the key cover and disconnect them.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
06. How to replace the Hyundai Azera “4-Button Leather Strap” key fob battery (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver.
Follow the below step:
It’s as easy as opening a door with the key! All you have to do is insert a flat-head screwdriver into the slot on top of your keys and twist. You’ll notice that this will open up your fob, giving us access to its battery.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
07. How to replace the Hyundai Elantra “D-Shaped” key fob battery (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver. Precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller)
Follow the below step:
To change the battery, first try to find a groove next to the keyhole. Take your flat-head screwdriver and insert it into this slot by twisting so that you can easily take apart two halves of the device like they are some sort of sliding puzzle game.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
08. How to replace the Hyundai Elantra “3-Button Grey Hatch” key fob battery (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver.
Follow the below step:
It’s so easy to change the battery in this key fob. Look at the top of it, right above that light. There is a small slot there you can use your screwdriver on and twist to pop the thing open.
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
09. How to replace the Hyundai Elantra 4D Sedan “Rectangular” key fob battery (2012, 2013)?
Required Tools:
A New CR2032 (3V) Battery. Flat Screwdriver. Precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller)
Follow the below step:
On the front of your key fob, you will find a button. Press this to release the internal keys and expose an opening below it for easy access when removing them from inside with a flat-head screwdriver or another pointed object like needle nose pliers. When all that is visible are two halves, twist these in opposite directions as if unscrewing something so they come apart easily!
After this step you have to follow step-04, step-05, step-06, and step-07
How to Program a Hyundai Key Fob?
Programming this key fob to your Hyundai using this method will only work if the key has previously been programmed while set up to your Hyundai.
If you just purchased a new remote key fob, you will need to go to a Hyundai service center for assistance.
Don’t worry, the process is easy. Just follow these steps:
Get into your Hyundai and make sure the doors are closed. Turn the key in the “ACC” position to ignite the car engine Press the “open” or “unlock” button on your key fob until the vehicle’s light flashes. Your key fob is now programmed to your vehicle. The final step is to test your key fob and ensure it’s working properly. If you can’t get the device to work, make sure that both contacts are in good condition and touching each other when closed up again. To finish this process for a new Hyundai car key battery, just reprogram the chip.

Programming replacement remotes for this particular car will require a professional. Your local dealership will offer this service, but the cost can be high. To potentially get a better deal, head to Google and perform pricing comparisons with a locally-based automotive locksmith.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a new key fob for Hyundai?
The cost will depend on the source, but you can expect to pay anywhere between $150 and $600. This will depend on the car model and the type of Hyundai key you need.
You can potentially source a remote from a third-party seller at a reduced rate. Try to find someone with free shipping, too!
How much is a Hyundai smart key?
Smart keys are programmed with an electronic code, which opens car doors and starts your engine. You can expect to pay a pretty penny on a replacement because of the advanced Hyundai key fob tech.
The price for replacement Hyundai smart keys range between $220-$500, depending on your car and the year it was made. You could contact a third-party seller to see if they beat dealer replacement pricing. Bonus points if the seller’s site offers free shipping.
If you find something for dirt cheap, be wary of its abilities.
Can I program my own Hyundai key fob?
A Hyundai key fob remote requires special machinery for programming. Unfortunately, you can’t do it at home. Only a dealer or automotive locksmith can program remotes for you.
You could have to pay your Hyundai car dealer to program your fob. This service can cost between $50-$100, depending on your dealership.
Some may program your replacement Hyundai key fob for free if you were a previous customer. It’s worth sending your dealer an email to ask.
For a possibly better price, you could find a local automotive locksmith via Google. When you view their web page, make sure they offer the service you need. If you’re unsure, contact them to ask! You don’t want to select a place that can’t program a Hyundai remote.
What battery should I use?
The good thing about Hyundai fobs is they all require the same battery: the CR2032.
Amazon Basics 4 Pack CR2032 3 Volt Lithium Coin Cell Battery IN THE BOX: 4-pack of CR2032 3 volt lithium coin cell batteries; replacement for BR2032, DL2032, and ECR2032
DEVICE COMPATIBLE: Ideal for watches, calculators, key fobs, Apple TV remotes, and other small electronics
DESIGNED TO LAST: 8-year leak-free shelf life
Does replacing the remote’s battery require programming?
You’ll have to become a customer of a dealer or locksmith, though, as battery replacement still requires programming. But at least the overall price you’ll pay is way down.
Why are key fobs so expensive?
Unlike the old days, car remotes are costly to replace because of the advanced technology required to manufacture remotes. Keys for most vehicle models built after 1995 now have to be explicitly programmed for your vehicle.
