Clash Royale Shocktober: Will the Electro Giant shock the meta?

PARIS, FRANCE – FEBRUARY 17: E-Sports players compete a video game ‘Clash Royale’ developed and published by Supercell during an electronic video game tournament at the eSports World Convention (ESWC) on February 17, 2017 in Paris, France. The ESWC is the historic and emblematic event of electronic sports, bringing together every year since 2003 the best players in the world in video game tournaments designed as real live shows and broadcast live on the Internet or on television. Clash Royale celebrates Shocktober with the Electro Giant, the game’s 100th card.

It’s almost Shocktober in Clash Royale. Supercell’s card-based strategy battling game will soon be celebrating its 16th season with its annual Halloween-themed update and with it will come the game’s 100th card: the Electro Giant.

Appropriate for Shocktober, the Electro Giant is a 8-Elixir, Legendary card that initially looked like it would shake up some of the game’s meta decks. Based on the teaser, it looked like he would zap any nearby enemies, resetting their attack animation (a perfect counter to the Inferno Dragon, Inferno Tower and Sparky). However, there appear to be some limitations to his power.

The Electro Giant looks like the scientist cousin of the Giant, big and bulky in stature, although weaker in strength. At level 9, the Electro Giant does 159 damage (75 damage per second) and has 3192 hitpoints. What sets him apart from the Giant though, is his stunning ability.

The Electro Giant is equipped with two tesla-rods that provide a 2.5-radius shield. Any troop within that shield will get zapped if it attacks the Electro Giant. The Electro Giant won’t attack the enemy itself, but every time he is attacked, his tesla rods will zap the enemy. His primary focus is on destroying buildings, which means he won’t completely render the Electro Wizard or Zappies useless in your deck either.

Because he only zaps enemies within a close radius, the Electro Giant is weak against ranged cards. So cards like the Muskateer and even Sparky (which there was concern could be countered by the Electro Giant) will actually be very effective. Also, because he only zaps units that attack him, simply being in his range won’t get your unit killed.

There was initial concern that the Electro Giant would render some of Clash Royale’s strongest anti-tank cards — the Inferno Tower, Inferno Dragon and Sparky — useless; however, revealed gameplay shows that Sparky will still be an effective tank because of its range. It’s possible the Inferno Tower’s range could also keep it somewhat safe building up enough damage over time to kill the Electro Giant before he gets his zap off to reset the animation attack.

Perhaps more interesting is how effective the Electro Giant is against cards like the Skeleton Army or Goblin Gang (low-health, multi-troop cards). Because the Electro Giant deals damage every time it is attacked, he’s able to rapidly shock each skeleton that attacks him, easily taking out the entire army.

The Electro Giant is an interesting unit, for sure, but I’m not so sure it’s the game-changer everyone thought it would be. Because of its shock limitations, Sparky and the Inferno Tower still remain strong anti-tank options. Additionally, any sort of ranged attack seems to deal good damage while staying safe from his zap. If anything, close-ranged, weaker units will have a hard time dealing with him.

The Electro Giant is Clash Royale’s 100th card. Season 16 will also see the release of the game’s 101st card as well. Season 16 (Shocktober) will begin on October 5.

Best Counters to the Electro Giant

Hey Clashers! It’s Krux here and I am back again with some fresh air and a new Clash Royale guide. With October, the Shocktober which is the Season 16 in Clash Royale has started. We have some exciting new things added in the game this season. Electro Giant and Electro Spirits are the two new cards that will join the Clash Royale card collection. There was a draft challenge to unlock the Electro Giant, it ends today and I hope you all have unlocked the Electro Giant, ’cause I have.

In this guide, we will take a look at how to use the latest card in Clash Royale. The introduction has been covered in the First Look. Let’s get started!

Electro Giant Data

The Electro Giant fits among the giants and the golems which all are heavy tank cards. In Clash Royale, Electro Giant and the Giant moves slower than the Goblin Giant. Electro giant costs 8 elixir, equal to the Golem but the difference is that the Golem has a two-second deeply time.

The Electro Giant punches for less damage and punches 40% slower than a regular giant but that is not a demerit as Electro Giant has a counter mechanism with the electric generator mounted on his back. Every time the princess tower attacks him he’ll also reflect 120 zap damage onto the princess tower and stun it for 0.5 seconds. That means the tower starts taking damage before our Electro Giant starts punching it. Cool, isn’t it?

Countering the Electro Giant

As it is the 100th card and also the big guy looks cool in those goggles and the two lightning spheres on his back, we tend to use it. Even if you are not using it because you are a Hog cycle player for two years and don’t know any other deck, you should know how to defend yourself when your opponent places the Electro Giant every time they hit 8 elixir.

Bad counters:

X-Bow: All the icebow trickers, take note. If you are placing an X-Bow for defending the Electro Giant, you are doomed to get rekt. It will be taken out quickly and the Electro giant will 90% of the times, punch your princess tower. X-Bow is killed by the zaps by the Giant and dies out in seconds.

Swarms: Swarms include here Skeleton Army, Goblins, and Minion Horde. These also do not work against a pushing Big Goggled Blue Guy. The zaps sent by the Giant when the swarm attacks him, take the army out in two seconds. These swarms damage the giant by 30% but then he will be punching your tower to less than half health. Bad counter, in two words.

Lumberjack: We have been using Lumberjack to take out Giants and Gobline giants but this also doesn’t work very well here. Because of its fast attack speed, Lumberjack takes too many zaps and dies while the Electro Giant is at around half health. And reaches the tower.

Inferno Dragon: This one is a bit interesting. It is a bad defence if you place on top of the giant in a hurry, see it getting obliterated if you do so. The inferno dragon can be a moderate defence if placed outside the Electro Giant’s stun radius and paired with some ground troop. It takes him out.

Good counters:

Inferno Tower: The Inferno Tower easily takes out the Electro Giant without taking any damage if placed rightly in the middle of the arena. Before the giant touches it, he is dead. Also, a decent elixir trade as Inferno Tower costs 6 elixir. Inferno tower can be beaten by the opponent by a little trick. I will leave it for the readers to find out and comment.

Cannon: The cannon at 3 elixir cost is a very good counter. The Electro Giant diverts towards it and the princess tower and the cannon takes it out together. The cannon is taken out by it but he doesn’t reach the tower. Win.

Mini Pekka and Pekka: Both the troops are heavy hitters and slow attack speed. Takes out the Electric generator guy very effectively and stays alive.

Zappies: Zappies are actually pretty decent if you place them just right so that they stagger their attack to chain stun the giant and stops him completely from punching the tower. Be careful of a fireball or the support troops in this case.

Sparky: Electro against Electro. Sparky is a good counter even if your noobness panic makes you drop it right on top of the Electro Giant. The Giant may reach the tower but will deal less damage and the Sparky takes it out. Also, you can build a counter push with the Sparky.

Note: If you think electro against electro will just short circuit or a similarly ridiculous idea like that, Don’t. Electro Wizard is a terrible defence against the Electro Giant.

So this was how you should think and defend your game against the new Clash Royale Electro Giant. Stay tuned for more exciting content about Clash Royale. We will try out some new decks and strategies. Clash On!

Best Counters to Electro Giant

Hi Clashers! It’s Krux here and I’m back with some winter sunshine and a new Clash royale guide. We recently saw how to counter the Mega knight and Prince. Electro giant is another card which can cause trouble if we make the wrong moves. It’s better we equip ourselves with the best counters to Electro Giant before we jump in the arena!

About Electro Giant

“He channels electricity through his Zap Pack, a unique device that stuns and damages any troop attacking him within its range. Don’t tell him that his finger guns aren’t real! He’ll zap you.”

The cad description is really a description in Electro giant’s case. It tells us what does he do. Electro giant costs 8 elixir in Clash Royale and is unlocked from Electro Valley, i.e, arena 11. He has very high hitpoints of 4160 (level 11) and attacks only buildings. But when he is attacked, he stuns the nearby enemies in 3-tile radius.

Best Counters to Electro Giant

1. Pekka: Pekka’s high damage is the best answer to the high health of Electro Wizard. Though Pekka will get some damage due to stuns but it will be a matter of blows before it kills the Electro Giant. Pekka costs 7 elixir and gives us 1 elixir in positive and it will survive after killing the Electro giant, so there is a chance of building a counter push. It should be placed close to the Electro giant because Pekka is slow and we don’t want the Electro giant to reach out tower.

2. Barbarian Hut: One of the best counters to Electro giant and a defensive building. It should be placed in the middle of our side of the arena and never in front of the Electro giant. Doing that would be useless as Electro Giant’s stuns will destroy it. The hut will distract and pull the Electro Giant in the range of both the Princess towers. The barbarians spawned will damage him too.

3. Inferno Dragon/Inferno Tower: We don’t have heavy hitters or high elixir buildings in all the decks. Inferno Dragon/Tower are also effective counters to the Electro giant. The Inferno tower should be placed in the middle. It will quickly melt the giant before it reaches the tower. The inferno dragon should be placed as far as possible from the Electro Giant otherwise his electric shocks will reset Inferno dragon’s attack and it won’t be able to kill it. Inferno dragon is preferred as it costs only 4 elixir.

4. Barbarians: This group of 5 men is also one of the best counters to Electro Giant. Though, having higher leveled barbarians is recommended. They will take out the electro giant without dying by the shocks. Also, gives us a positive trade of 3 elixir as they cost only 5 elixir compared to 8 elixir of Electro giant. They should be placed right on top of the enemy electro Giant.

The Electro giant costs 8 elixir and we can use more than one troop to defend against it. We will keep in mind not to over commit.

5. Prince and Musketeer: This pair is the one I use most of the time to defend it. Prince starts charging after some tiles and that charged attack is our key. The Prince alone can damage the Electro giant enough that he is not a problem for our towers. But to kill it and to counter push, Musketeer should be placed behind the Prince and out of the Electro giant’s shock radius. These two cards cost 9 elixir in total. They will take out the Electro giant completely and will be a counter push on the enemy’s tower.

6. Mini Pekka and a defensive building: Mini Pekka is a low-cost good damage dealer. But it alone can’t take on the tanky Electro Giant. Mini Pekka coupled with a defensive building makes it a feature in these best counters to Electro giant list. The preferred building is the Goblin Cage, Tesla or Bomb Tower. All these costs 4 elixir and the total cost would be 8 elixir. Also, these buildings attack, helping the Mini Pekka. Goblin brawler may survive after the Electro Giant. So, this strategy is a good bet if you do not have heavy cards in your deck to defend against the Electro Giant.

There can be other card combinations that can be effective against the Electro Giant. You can pair two melee troops or a building with a ranged troop or a flying type. Just remember not to waste too much elixir or more than two cards.
