Can you bleed brakes without using bleeder screw?

Yes, of course, it is very possible to do this if the bleeder screws of your vehicle are rusty and crusty. You can either use a pressure or gravity bleed method to achieve this. It is a simple process. You can start at the brake that is nearer to the master cylinder.

Can you heat a bleeder screw?

If you use heat to try to free up the bleeder valve the heat will travel into the caliper body itself and will reach the area housing the caliper square cut seal. This heat may easily cause the seal to have problems. It is never a good idea to heat a bleeder valve to try and free it up. Don’t do it.

Can you get air out of brake lines without bleeding?

There are two steps involved in getting air out of brake lines without bleeding them. First, you’ll need to get the air bubbles out of the master cylinder and then out of each wheel cylinder, one by one. Step 1: Get air bubbles out of master cylinder.

Can you bleed brakes from the master cylinder?

The master cylinder does not automatically bleed the air out of the piston when you fill it, this has to be performed “on the bench”, in other words, out of the vehicle. You can bleed it in the car, but it takes longer and requires two people- one to watch for bubbles and one to push the brake pedal.

How does a bleeder screw work?

When the bleed screw is loosened, antifreeze is added to the engine’s cooling system and the increase in fluid pressure displaces air through the opened bleed screw. When liquid begins to flow out, all air has been removed from the system and the bleed screw is closed.

How to Loosen a Stripped Brake Bleeder Valve

How to Loosen a Stripped Brake Bleeder Valve by Jule Pamplin

A stripped bleeder valve will make break pad replacement difficult and brake fluid changing even more so. During the pad replacement, the bleed valve needs to be opened so that the excess brake fluid that is expelled while opening the brake caliper, does not return through the brake line. Allowing it to be forced back into the lines can cause serious damage. For flushing or bleeding the brake lines, you need to open the valve to allow the old fluid to flow from the lines; a much easier process than actually disconnecting the brake line from the caliper. In the event that the valve screw becomes stripped, you can still remove the bleeder valve and perform the necessary brake maintenance properly.

How To Remove a Stripped Bleeder Screw ??
bolt extractor sockets are the best but req an impact
Good thought! After watching one of Eric’s videos many moons ago, I went out and bought a 10-piece Craftsman “Damaged” Bolt/Nut Remover” Set.

Here is a similar one I found on line:

http://tinyurl.com/zgs74u4

Prolly found it on sale as I doubt I paid more than $20 for the set. As it turned out, I did use it recently on the brake job I was working on. Works just fine with my 3/8-in drive socket wrench. If something is really stuck I give PB Blaster a chance to work and hit it over several days. Then some tapping on the socket as force is applied, I have found helps too. The tapping may not replicate the motion of the impact wrench, but any motion tangential to the force applied tends to help in breaking things free. Of course a cheater bar can give some extra UMPGH to the situation too. I think I’d try all of that BEFORE applying “The Big Red Wrench!”

Oh and I assume new bleeder screws will be installed? Don’t forget to clean up the threads on the caliper before installing a new one. Also, in my recent brake job, I also used a scant amount of anti-seize on the threads of the new bleeder screw. Want to make sure to not get any on the end (seat) and contaminate the brake fluid.

brake bleeder screw stripped, please help

Yikes… How old is the truck? A pair of channel locks or the correct sized end-wrench should do the job just fine. It could’ve possibly been a metric sized screw (for lack of a better word) and you could’ve been using SAE wrenches; or even the other way around. The big deal now is getting them out without further damaging the screws. Relieving the pressure off the brakes by disconnecting the brake line may help to get the screw out. Other than that, just make sure you have a good grip on it if you’re using vice-grips or channel locks.
