How to Remove Dye Stains from a Rubber Phone Case
Linda said, “I put my iPhone in my pocket and my blue jeans faded on my pink OtterBox. Any ideas how to get it off? I have tried everything I can think of.”
Jeans, especially dark colors of jeans, are notorious for having excess dye that can transfer to surfaces that rub against it. It is usually a bad idea to keep a cell phone in your pocket in general, but this is even more true when you are wearing dark jeans. Luckily, the dye is considered “loose dye”, meaning that it was loose enough to transfer off the fabric and it should still be loose enough for the stain to come out of your phone case fairly easily as well.
You Will Need:
An eraser
Isopropyl alcohol
A cloth
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Rit Dye Remover
Water
Soap
Steps to Remove the Dye:
First, try erasing the dye with a white eraser or art gum eraser. Do not use a pink eraser as they can leave pink stains. If the eraser foes not work, try using isopropyl alcohol. Moisten a soft cloth with the alcohol and rub the stain. Rotate the cloth to a clean area as the dye is transferred to it. If the stain still won’t budge, try using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Test this on a small hidden area first to look for any adverse reaction, such as on an inside a corner of the case. If none of the above methods work, something else you can try is Rit Dye Remover. It is available in the laundry aisle of most supermarkets. Mix some of the dye remover powder with water to make a thick paste similar to the consistency of peanut butter. Spread the paste over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Once the dye has been removed, wash the case with soap and water to remove any residue from the cleaning products. Be sure the case has fully dried before putting it back on your phone.

HOW TO CLEAN PHONE CASES – 5 TYPES: SILICONE, PLASTIC, WOOD, LEATHER, RUBBER
WOOD PHONE CASE
Wood is the most delicate phone case surface, thus it is more important to dust your wood phone cases more often. This will prevent oil, dirt, and debris from sinking in or scratching the surface. If possible, avoid water when cleaning your wood phone case. Too much contact with water can cause wood to deteriorate. Instead, maintain your wood case by regularly cleaning with a dry microfiber cloth. While tissues or other cloths can leave scratches on wood, microfiber cloths contain delicate fibers that suck up dirt without harming the surface. (See below for our recommended microfiber cloth for wood phone cases)
For tougher grime on your wood phone case, you can slightly dampen the microfiber cloth with a small amount of water and wipe. If it is extra sticky residue, add a few drops of white vinegar to water and dip your cloth in the solution. Never apply a liquid directly to the wood case, always apply to the cloth. Then use a dry microfiber cloth to soak up any excess water. Since wood is porous use a fluffy or terry microfiber cloth to dry wood. This will ensure you are absorbing into the small cracks and crevices.
Tip: Make sure when you are cleaning and drying you are going with the grain.
LEATHER PHONE CASE
Leather phone cases are best cleaned with a mild solution. You can lightly clean your leather case with mild hand soap, and a damp microfiber cloth. Apply the soap onto the cloth and distribute evenly. If you have a mild cleaner, use it along with a dry cloth. When drying, use a plusher terry type microfiber cloth, instead of a flat woven type. The is because leather is porous, so you want to make sure you are getting into the smallest cracks and crevices of the material.
Always make sure you are being as gentle as possible when cleaning and drying, rubbing in circular motions. This will ensure you are not stretching the leather. Keep in mind that different products and solutions you are using on your leather case can alter its look and color, so the simpler the cleaning job the better.
Tip: To restore and condition your leather use Saddle Soap.
How to Clean Silicone
Silicone is a nonstick material used in bakeware, cooking molds, spatulas, and other tools and is popular for its ease of use, with food sliding right off its surface. It’s easy to use but not necessarily the easiest to clean. Although silicone can go in the dishwasher, you will likely need to hand-wash the items. Here’s how to clean your silicone cookware in a few simple steps.
How Often to Clean Silicone Kitchenware
Silicone kitchenware should be washed after every use. As soon as the pieces begin to feel sticky, a more thorough cleaning is necessary or the situation will only become worse.
