How long do airless tires last?

Drivers should inspect tires after five years at a maximum. The airless tire is rumored to last about three times as long as conventional tires.

What are solid tires made of?

They are either made of solid rubber, or molded from plastic compounds. Solids tires are able to resist puncture damage. Solid tires are significantly more prone to roll-over than pneumatic tires, which is why they are not recommended for fast vehicles.

What is the raw material for tire?

The main raw materials of a tire are natural rubber, synthetic rubber, carbon black and oil. The share of rubber compounds in the total weight of a tire is more than 80%. The rest consists of various kinds of reinforcing materials. Approximately half of the rubber is natural rubber from a rubber tree.

What is a solid rubber tire called?

Solid Pneumatic Tires

Solid Pneumatics, sometimes called Resilient Tires, are solid tires designed like a regular industrial air tire (Bias Tire or Radial Tire) but retain the solid core properties of a press-on solid tire.

Can tires be made without rubber?

For example, bicycle tires made of rattan were described as “a pleasant substitute for rubber tires due to their light weight, their elasticity and strength as well as their noiselessness while in operation.” In reality, many of the alternative tires— especially the metal ones—provided a less comfortable ride, made …

Do they make airless tires for cars?

The MICHELIN® Uptis (Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System) is an airless mobility solution for passenger vehicles, which reduces the risk of flat tires and other air loss failures that result from punctures or road hazards.

Do airless tires work?

Airless tires are ideal for places with bumpy roads or those who pass by construction sites as they are prone to debris that is harmful. However, the airless approach is not necessarily the best tire there is, as it is still prone to wear and tear of a normal tire.

The main reason when solid rubber tires are not used any more is due to the high degree of vibration they cause when driven on normal roads.

What kind of foam do you use to fill tires?

Foam Fill is a two-component liquid urethane that is pumped into the tire through the valve stem that cures into a solid-state within 24 hours, replacing all of the air. Foam Filled tires eliminate flat tires, but with the performance and softer ride of pneumatic tires.

Why are tires filled with air and not rubber?

The main benefit of filling tires with air, as opposed to solid rubber, is that air-filled tires offer a lower rolling resistance, meaning that they require less energy to roll, and are therefore more efficient.

Why Aren’t Tires Made Of Solid Rubber Instead of Inflated Air?

Car tires are made of rubber, which is inflated using air. This means that without air the car tires will be flat and unusable.

The question is, why don’t automobile manufacturers make tires from solid rubber? so that the tires have no dependence on the inflated air.

Let’s find out the answer.

Tires inflated with air are known as pneumatic tires. These tires are used on all passenger cars, motorbikes and trucks.

But what you need to know, before pneumatic tires were widely used, car tires were made of solid rubber which didn’t require air.

Solid rubber tire is made of 100% rubber without cavities. So it doesn’t require maintenance. But why aren’t solid rubber tires being used now?

In fact, solid rubber tires are still used but in certain vehicles. This is because solid tire and pneumatic tire have different properties.

1. Solid rubber tires

Solid rubber tires offer maintenance free. This means that when the tires are installed on a vehicle, you don’t need to check in the future.

However, tires made of solid rubber do not absorb vibrations as well as pneumatic tires. This is because the solid construction of the tires makes the tires have no medium to absorb shocks.

So that the solid rubber tire is not suitable for use in passenger cars that prioritize comfort.

Apart from that, there are other disadvantages. Tires made of solid rubber have a higher weight than pneumatic tires. The higher weight will increase the engine load to run the vehicle.

So that if a solid rubber tire is used in a passenger car, the car accelerates slowly and wastes fuel.

From this, it can be concluded that solid rubber is not suitable for use in vehicles operating on the road.

However, solid rubber is still commonly found in workshop equipment such as forklifts. Forklifts operate in a workshop environment with a hazard on the line. The use of solid tire rubber can minimize maintenance costs.

Because even if the tires are punctured by sharp objects, they can still be used.

Another example, is children’s toys. Such as car toys, kid bicycle.

2. Pneumatic tire

As many people know, almost all vehicles operating on the road use pneumatic tire.

Pneumatic tires have good characteristics in absorbing shocks. Because the air can be compressed. So that when the tire passes through a bumpy road, the shock will be absorbed by the air inside the tire.

In addition, the weight of the pneumatic tire is also light. So that it doesn’t overload the engine.

However, as you know when a tire is stuck with a sharp object, it will become flat. When the tire is flat, the tire cannot be used because it will be dangerous if it forced.

Therefore, a pneumatic tire requires maintenance. Minimum, you can check tire pressure often.

How to make solid tires

Today, automobiles exclusively use pneumatic tires — those filled with air — but this was not always the case. Earlier automobiles rolled on tires of solid rubber until people realized that pneumatic tires absorb shock more effectively. Solid tires may be desired as a means to avoid the hassle of flat tires, but they are not recommended for use with automobiles. If you wish to have solid tires on your car or truck, however, you can convert pneumatic tires into solid tires.

First Step

Make sure the tire is deflated and securely attached to the rim.

Step Two

Use utility knife to cut the valve stem from tire and, where the valve stem was formerly located, a hole large enough to insert the stem of the funnel.

Step Three

Use funnel to pour wet cement into the tire, rotating the tire after each funnel-full of cement to ensure as equal a distribution as possible. Stop filling when you believe the tire is full of cement.

Step Four

Allow the cement to dry with hole side facing up.Allow the cement to dry with hole side facing up.

Step Five

Check the tire after the cement has dried. If there are any pockets of air, repeat Steps 3 and 4. If the pockets are isolated from the initial hole, cut new holes to access the pockets for filling.

Solid Rubber Tires Manufacturing Process-APEXWAY PRODUCT CORP.

Solid tires differs in two ways. The first is the rubber compounds they’re made with, and the second is the purposes they’re made off. Solid-tires manufacturing results in tires that are incredible hard and durable.

At APEXWAY we have solid tires with different tread design and capability.

As you may already know, solid tires manufacturing process is more complex than the pneumatic tires since solid tires use a different rubber compound. They are rolled in thin layers of rubber onto a metal frame mount and pressed through a hydraulic system, this process hardens the form and makes the rubber hold. With every full rotation of a wheel turn, the process adds another layer. The thickness of the rubber layers varies depending on the application of the tire.

• 2-layer solid rubber tires consist of a hard rubber layer, which is reinforced using metal wire rings, and a thick wear layer. Thanks to the special compound and additives to the rubber, these tires are very unlikely to slip.

• 3-layer solid rubber tires feature a third rubber layer, which is flexible and is located between the heel layer and the wear layer. As a result, this type of tire offers more flexibility and stability than 2-layer tires. However, due to the extra layer, these tires are also quicker to heat up. Due to this heat, the rubber becomes softer at higher speeds and loads, which means the tires are susceptible to more wear & tear.

• Special solid rubber tires, including anti-static solid rubber tires, are also available for special purposes. These anti-static tires are ideal for use in areas with high risk of explosion.

Once the tire is properly sized, it will be put into a mold and heated, allowing the rubber to harden. This mold will also serve as the instrument that puts the tread on the solid tire.

This type of solid tires are often used in construction zones where a variety of metals, scrap, nails, screws, and other hardware may frequently puncture tires on heavy, load-bearing vehicles. Recycling centers and landfill operations utilize solid tires to transport large masses of material and drive through many ground hazards.

Other smaller machines like forklifts use solid tires for stability and the capability of transporting heavy loads.

APEXWAY have a variety of non-marking solid tires available too, which do not leave tracks on the floor and are ideal for warehouses, or indoor applications.
