FITTING A LOCKET PHOTO
FITTING A LOCKET PHOTO
So you’ve decided on the perfect image for your locket – what next?
Here are some steps and tips you might like to try to fit your photograph in to your pendant:
Crop the image to focus on the elements you’re trying to retain, but leave some space around the focal point to allow for cutting it out.
Use a digital photo program like iPhoto, Picasa or Photoshop, to size this to match the inside dimensions of your locket. Alternatively, Microsoft Word is a great tool for this too, it opens Layout dialog box, which shows you the current size of the image in inches. Select the “Size” tab and then change the “Height” or “Width” settings to a size that will fit in the locket. Click “OK.” You can now print the smaller image without any loss in quality.
When you print your resized photo, ensure that you use photo paper and not regular printer paper.
See the locket template at the bottom of this page? You can always right click to save the template and then print it to the internal dimensions. Then place baking/tracing paper over the template to trace around the locket oval size that you require.
Then place baking/tracing paper over the template to trace around the locket oval size that you require. Place the translucent paper over your printed photograph – ensuring the important elements of your photo will be inside the oval. Then using a biro trace over the circle (with the photo underneath) in order to leave an indentation that will become your cutting guide.
Slowly and carefully cut your photo out, using the guide you just created, being careful not to cut inside the oval.
Try inserting the photo into your locket, starting at the top left corner, and moving around the edge of the photo, press each section gently so that it fits underneath the lip of the locket until the entire photo is in place without creasing or folding. If there are any folds still, the photo is too large.
If the photo is still too large, cut again around the edges, just taking small amounts at a time, repeating the last two steps until your image fits snuggly inside
We hope you enjoy your newest treasure!
How to put photos in lockets
Inserting Photos in Lockets
There are many different sorts of lockets with many different ways to insert photos. This article looks at a few of the most popular ways.
Care should always be taken when opening lockets. Opening them flat, or bending them back too far may result in damage to the delicate hinges or clasps.
Lockets with Glass or Perspex Covers
Use the glass or perspex to create a paper template of the space where the photo will go. Place this template over the photo you want to use and trace around the template. Cut the photo to the desired shape. Glue isn’t usually needed with these lockets as the perspex or glass keeps the photos in place.
Lockets with Metal Lift-Out Frames
Some lockets are made with an additional metal frame that lifts out and then clicks back in over the top of the photo. To insert photos into these lockets, lift out the frame and use it as a template to trace around the photo you want to use. Cut out the photo, position it inside the locket and then clip the metal frame back in place.
Lockets without Frames or Covers
Some lockets, including the photo balls below, don’t have frames or perspex and the photo is simply stuck into place. Use the closed locket to create a template for the photo you want to use. You will need to cut the photo a fraction smaller to fit inside the locket. Paper glue sticks will work very well, although if you ever want to remove the photo you may need to work it off with water. If you want to remove the photos at a later stage without damaging them, using blue tac or sticky dots works well too.

How to Put a Picture in a Locket
Thu Apr 08, 2021
You’ve purchased one of our gorgeous lockets, whether it’s the Oval Locket Necklace or the Heart Locket Necklace – congrats! Now… how do you get a picture in a locket? How do you print locket photos? Where can you even print locket sized photos?! Not to worry – we figured out how to put a picture in a locket so you don’t have to. All you have to do is follow these steps!
Go to Locket Studio’s website. This website will help you resize the photo for your locket. This service is amazing and free to use – thank you Locket Studio!
Choose the appropriate shape – oval locket, or heart locket. Choose the width of the locket. For the oval locket, choose 14mm. For the heart locket, you can choose 15mm if you don’t mind it fitting a little narrow/tall, or 19mm if you want to cut it closer yourself. Upload your photo and click on edit. Zoom/rotate until you are happy with the results. If you choose 19mm for the heart locket, make sure to zoom out a little more so you can cut closer it correctly. Download the finished photo, and print it at home if you have a photo printer, or go to your local store to get it printed (Safeway, Fedex, Kinko’s, etc!) Once you have the finished photo, cut it out & insert into your locket! The heart shape is a little trickier because the heart outline doesn’t exactly fit the locket. If you want an exact fit, use the paper insert that came with the locket to help cut the 19mm photo to shape. Ta-da! You’re finished! Great job – now wear your new locket proudly!
Don’t have a locket yet? Shop our lockets here! We sell two gorgeous lockets (our Oval Locket Necklace & Heart Locket Necklace) made of gold filled & sterling silver, so you can wear them everyday! Gold filled & sterling silver are durable and will last years to come with proper care. If you’re not sure what gold filled is, you can read our guide on the types of gold jewelry to find out why we love gold filled.
