How to Put on Your AoT Maneuvering Gear
Hello!
I’m here to show you my way, which I think is quiet easy, to put on the Attack on Titan Maneuvering Straps.
I did get lazy and forget to take the final step picture but hopefully my explanation will be enough.
Disclaimer: I had to cut some of my straps to make it a perfect fit because my body is quite skinny. Besides that, everything is in the original form; Nothing added and nothing removed.
Well…
Lets get into it!

Materials
I got my straps off of Amazon for 30 something dollars which is a pretty good price for the quality of the straps.
The only problem was that the instructions were in Japanese. Japanese is my native language and I do speak it often but these Japanese letters were tiny and very non-detailed. The instructions were useless.
So here I have a picture of all that came with it. I’ve labeled them with numbers to make it easier to explain. There are 12 parts in total.
1 – Upper Body Straps
This is a combination of your chest and side straps as well as the back.
2 – Rope Attachment Clip
This is what will set on your back to have all the rope/wire held
3 – Belt
This belt will connect the upper half and the bottom half, as well as keep your pants up
4 – House Thingy.
This is what rest right above the behind and crosses the leg straps around, keeping them stable.
5&6 – Leg Belt Straps
These are the places that keep the blade compartment at your side
7&8 – Leg Straps
These are the straps that run up the leg from the foot. Will be connected at the sides.
9&10 – Connection Straps
These connect to the back of the leg straps. They are connect to the second piece from your upper compartment (you’ll see) keeping the leg and the upper connected as one.
11&12 – Compartments
These rest at the side to kinda hide the one strap that keeps everything together. It makes sure they are secure and safe.
Now that you are familiar with each piece that comes with it, let’s get into how it actually is assembled.

Step One
Put the upper straps on like a backpack. Make sure that all of the main straps go over the shoulder and the little piece that hang out go in the back.

Step Two
Buckle the front chest buckle, make sure that both sides are even. If one side is not even then you grip the grey piece in the front and pull the opposite strap from behind you (the little straps in the back) this should tighten it. Pull the front leather strap to loosen it.

Step Three
Alright time for the little straps in the back of the piece. Their should be a little buckle on the side of the upper piece. Use that and connect the piece from the back and insert it. Pulling it tight so that way it goes under the armpit. Do this to both sides
This may be a piece you need to cut

Step Four
Grab your belt and make sure the buckle is lined up with the front of your pants before slipping it through the first loop of your pants. If you do not have loops then obviously you don’t have to go through the loops. Once through the first loop, you take the buckle from your upper piece and thread the belt through it. Which means pushing it through the buckle upwards, making sure the metal piece is down, then going over the metal piece and down through the buckle. This should be tight.

Step Five
Your gonna thread it through the next loop, BUT DO NOT GO THROUGH THE BACK LOOP. I REPEAT. DO NOT GO THROUGH THE BACK LOOP.
You are actually gonna take the house thingy and put it on your belt, making sure it’s the side that does not show the stitches. Make sure it is crossed. One should be in the loop of the other before threading it through the belt. You will line this up with your back loop. Once done so, you push it through the next loop and repeat step four for putting the other side in the belt. Close the belt afterwards.

Step Six
Now you are gonna pull out the Rope Attachment Clip. There should be three holes on the back of it. Two on either side and one in the middle, make sure this part is against your back.
You are gonna cross the long straps from your upper piece across your back in this clip. So go through the right hole then the middle and then the left hole in the middle, this should cross them.
These straps may be cut, but I recommend cutting them at a later point.

Step Seven
Now we move onto the leg belt straps. There should be two; one for each leg obviously. You are gonna wanna attach these to your upper thighs.
MAKE THESE AS TIGHT AS YOU CAN
If they aren’t tight, then they will fall down. You don’t want that. Try to make the buckles go on the front of your thigh. The flat piece should be on your sides when done. Do this to both sides
You may cut the extra strap here

Step Eight
Now you want to grab the long leg straps. These you have to make sure you tell apart if you cut them. But for starts, you decide on how you know what is right and what is wrong. In order to get the steps on right, you have to make sure the diamond piece is going in the same direction as your leg. The long piece of the strap should go to the outside of your body, not the inside.

Step Nine
Now that you can tell them apart, the straps will go through the strap loops in the leg belt straps; the flat straps. First start with the front one and weave it through the two straps, then you take the back one and do the same. This should cause another cross in between the straps, making the back the front and the front the back. Do this to both sides

You are probably getting pretty excited about it coming together but don’t get to excited cause we haven’t reached the hard part yet.

Step Ten
You are gonna grab the back strap from your leg straps and add the attachment piece to it. Do this to both sides.
Make sure this is pointing upwards!

Step Eleven
Once you got both of these on, you probably see where these are connected to, but don’t do it yet. You are gonna take these straps and push them through the house thing in a cross fashion as well, starting from underneath it in the bottom corner. Do this with both straps

Step Twelve
Once done with this you are gonna take the two compartments and slip them through your belt on either side of you. Make sure that it looks like it pocket with the buttons on top. There should be two slits in this. You will take the last buckle from your upper straps and slip it through the top slit. Take the attachment you added to the back strap and stick it through the bottom slit, buckle it up. Do this to both sides
DO NOT CLOSE THE COMPARTMENT YET
You may have to cut this]

This is where is gets complicated, especially cause I don’t have pictures.
Step Thirteen
Take the strap from your wire attachment (the one with a little buckle attached to it) and take the opposite front leg strap (should cross over your body) and attach it at the side. This may take a while to tighten it as tight as you want. Do this with the other side.
In the front should be crossed and buckled at the sides. You should have two more straps, the ones that went through the house thing. You will attach these straps to those same buckle. This will be a tight squeeze.
If you can, attach this in the compartment to keep the buckles out of the way. Close the compartment afterwards.

How to make/wear a Titan harness
Of course! I was meant to make a tutorial forever ago, so you got my arse into gear haha~ so here we go, a tutorial for making a Titan belt harness and how to put it on yourself vwv
-firstly, I used 10 metres of belting material (that’s about 11 yards ) and 5 belt buckles.
– all parts were sewn together, very very slowly, because the material I used was thick like plastic and needles like to break on that shit.
-also my word is not gospel, there are 120 ways to make/put on a Titan harness so you don’t need to do it this way. I made this a few days before flying out to AX so a lot of it was made on the fly with little thought or planning.
okay so
-here’s the entire harness, which is all interconnected~
-the best way to make the harness fit to /your/ body, is grab a tape measure, and measure all the parts on yourself. Then cut them from your belting material and tape the parts together ( I used my mannequin form ) it’s also a good way to figure out which parts should and shouldn’t connect ( because you still need to get in and out of the damn thing XD )
-I’m pretty bad with explaining without showing someone in person, so I figured looking at images would be easier to see where I sewed the joins to what parts.
-anyhows, this part just slips over my head like so. And my arms go through the holes where my left hand is half in.
– i decided to make the right side clip on and off, not wanting to struggle to get it over my head then push my arms through both sides. I’ve made a lot of uncomfortable cosplays before, and sometimes they are so heavy, or stifling I’ve almost fainted in them.
Now I’m not saying a Titan cosplay is that intense, however even just being around hundreds of bodies during a con, or having worn your gear for hours can tire you out and you might want a quick way to get things off NOW. Fainting in cosplay can be really dangerous, so always make a way to rip your cosplay off quickly if that starts to happen!
-and the clip is totally hidden and fits all nicely at the front~
-this is how it looks on the sides~
-so half of the crotch strap is attached to the bottom of the top harness, so I just pull it around. I know a lot of cosplays keep the top and bottom harness seperate ( which is probably more accurate and makes going to the toilet easier ) but this way works just as well, so it’s up to you really.
-the two thigh straps go through the grey plate thing ( I just made them like really long button holes ) and the calf straps are sewed to the bottom thigh strap
-and my awesome socks
-I just step into the straps and pull them up~
-okay so attached to the back of the top thigh strap is part of the butt straps. So I just pull it around, where the end is attached to the second set of thigh straps.
-and you just put them on like so.
-so to keep the thigh straps from not falling down ( because the do and will even with the butt straps keeping one side up ) I’ve put in clear fishing wire which slips through my big waist belt. I swear the last thing you want to worry about is your harness slipping in places and having to constantly stop to rearrange things. Ugh XD
-now the other crotch strap comes around, and clips to the bottom of the top harness and slips under the waist belt. This part actually fell off during AX, but hey nothing a pin can’t fix 8’’D
-like so.
-then the final parts of the butt straps are clipped into place.
-BUTTS
– I didn’t make the foot straps, soooo to keep it in place, its just safety pinned to my jeans haha ( all the messy secrets behind my cosplays are revealed aahhh )
-and there you go
